Spoiler:
Seethe347: There you are.
Seethe347: You were wanting to talk to me, right?
Besyanteo is idle at 8:28:11 PM.
Besyanteo is no longer idle at 8:29:25 PM.
Besyanteo: Yup. Sorry, went afk
Besyanteo: Now then; You mentioned in your thread that your demons have a base in the Shumans?
Seethe347: Yeah, that's right.
Seethe347: I established that in The Next Crisis.
Besyanteo: *nod* I wish I'd read it already. As it stands: I've gaot a garoujin clan there. Since one will affect the other... could you give me a run down on what your demons are up to there?
Seethe347: That base is actually their main capital. Right now, they're at war with some native orcs over a sort of mana-crystal that appears every now and then and then dissipates. The demons are wanting to harvest the power from it and the orcs just want it to be left alone. The party of characters is there because the mage who hired them thinks its going to explode and Destroy Everything if it isn't allowed to dissipate.
Seethe347: Beyond that, the demons haven't done a whole lot else in the area, as they want their presence there to stay secret for now. They used to do a bit of trading with outsiders, but they've stopped recently.
Besyanteo: How common knowledge is the mana crystal business?
Seethe347: Pretty arcane. I've put a tome regarding it deep within the library of Gunnir. Also, the orcs in the area know about it, so they would probably spread some knowledge of its presence, but only their shaman has any understanding of what it is. The only thing the rest of the orcs know is that it appears and dissapears and that the land around it is pretty fertile.
Besyanteo: ... Crap. So yeah, the Arrowfists would know about it. And they do have Shaman, though they still might not understand the crystal.
Seethe347: Also, there are a few others around the world, but not too many appear on land and above ground.
Besyanteo: Hm.
Besyanteo: Would you prefer that other people's toys not mess with you own? That is to say,
Besyanteo: that the garoujin tribe there stays out of things?
Seethe347: I'm open to proposals.
Besyanteo: I don't have a proposal yet, sadly. I'm just trying to think of how they'd react. When you say it will blow everything up,
Besyanteo: do you mean, like, Gaera?
Seethe347: Really, just Igala and a lot of ocean. But normally, it shouldn't even blow up. That should only happen if it's kept from dissipating until it reaches critical mass.
Besyanteo: ... crap. Well.
Besyanteo: Though normally peaceful, most of the Arrowfists are trained as warriors of some sort. Shamans, pugilists, archers, swordsmen, etc. They would likely offer their assistance to the orcs if it's still required.
Besyanteo: however,
Besyanteo: there's only a few hundred of them.
Seethe347: Well, I plan on having that particular crystal dealt with by the end of The Next Crisis. And the battle to take it down is probably already joined. But if you want, I could give them some honorable mention in a supporting role somewhere.
Seethe347: Scratch "probably."
Besyanteo: Mmm. IF that's teh case, then we can just say they were late in finding out.
Seethe347: Alright. Of course, the war between the demons and the orcs has been going on for about two years.
Besyanteo: ... Eh heheh. I need to read up on these things omre often.
Besyanteo: Ok;
Besyanteo: That being the case, to keep the Arrowfist's history true, they'd have to have stayed out of it thus far.
Besyanteo: As news of this spreads, if there's still a war going on after, then I can still see them helping out. The straw that breaks the camel's break being the crystal we'll say.
Besyanteo: Yes/no?
Seethe347: Well, once the crystal's gone, the demons won't really have much reason to stay in the area. Although, they might try to stay around until the next one starts to appear, but only halfheartedly. The Arrowfists might be able to help run the demons off and be ready to help fight them next time. Also, they might get in the way if the demons ever decide to start trading again.
Besyanteo: Oh, definitely. They're nomadic, under normal circumstances: They know every way onto and off of the range.
Besyanteo: The exception being going under it, anyway.
Besyanteo: They could also start trading the orcs some of their livestock. They've bred a type of chocobo specifically to traversing the mountains.
Besyanteo: Carries mroe than a mule, and faster. Stocky, brown feathers, heavy, sharped hooked beaks. Not something afraid of predators.
Seethe347: Yeah, the orcs would probably find that useful. It would give them something to match the demons' wargs with.
Seethe347: Of course, you might want to be aware that, when the demon army is serious, they can hit as heavily as most of Gaera's major nations.
Besyanteo: *nod* I understand that. Which is why I hesitated on this. The Arrowfists can't, and aren't aware of that. :-(
Besyanteo: Oh:
Besyanteo: The arrowfists are asking for something in return.
Besyanteo: In recent years, their children are being born sick. None of their medicine or magic seems to fix this. It would look strange to Gaeran, and hard to describe, so to be blunt:
Besyanteo: They're starting to have genetic troubles.
Besyanteo: Downs syndrome, mild mutations, the like.
Besyanteo: If the orcs can help, they'd be eternally grateful.
Besyanteo: It might also stand out that they all look alike. Brown fur, green eyes. Human like legs, isntead of the garoujin's typical reverse knee.
Seethe347: The orc shaman does have some powerful magic. He has healed one character's broken arm with a wierd snakeskin cast and also has cast a few powerful combat spells in the story. It wouldn't be impossible to say that his kind could at least help deal with the practical problems these maladies cause.
Besyanteo: *nod* Enough for them for now.
Seethe347: *nod* Alright.
Seethe347: So, any other business?
Besyanteo: THinking.
Besyanteo: Mmm, not much comes to mind, other than trading knowledge. Fighting styles, magical lore, that stuff.
Seethe347: I guess orcish fighting styles would be kind of heavy-handed and reliant on strength, though they might know a few methods of countering techniques that are meant to counter strength. With magic, they've probably concocted a few of their own ideas too, especially since their proximity to the crystal's location would give them enough mana in the atmosphere to work with. They would also probably make a good source of acriculturally-produced food given the fertility of the land.
Besyanteo: *nod* Sounds good. The Arrowfists would teach them what they do know about hostilic medicine, for maladies too small or too complicated for magic to resolve quickly. And there'd be a surfeit of young warriors interested in strength training with the orcs.
Seethe347: Also, by the way, the demons probably wouldn't be interested in retribution against the Arrowfists even if they attacked the demon city in full force, as they wouldn't consider them enough of a threat to use extra resources against. At the moment, they're finding it pretty important to concentrate on their big enemies in the underworld.
Besyanteo: *nod* Keen!
Besyanteo: Though an all out assault isn't likely unless the orcs plan one first.
Seethe347: I'm just speaking hypothetically, of course.
Besyanteo: *nod*
Besyanteo: They'll definitely be stopping any of them fro mgeting out of the mountains by any of the above ground roads, though.
Besyanteo: Stopping trade and such.
Seethe347: I might have to get off in a little bit. We'll see.
Besyanteo: Bleh, sorry to hold you up.
Seethe347: It's alright.
Seethe347: Anyway, stopping trade through the mountains would probably cramp the demons up a little, but I believe the faction in power now took that into consideration before they stopped trade in the first place. So, it won't provoke action unless they decide they absolutely have to get something through the mountains. In that case, though, they would just send a large escort along with whatever they're shipping.
Besyanteo: ... There is one other thing.
Besyanteo: The Arrowfists have a weird way of psychically with one another, even without being a true magic user. Which I still need to figure out hwo to explain, but:
Besyanteo: It means that most efforts like that are going to find concentrated and oddly well planned attacks are put together to hobble them. Not to kill all the escort, that would be too difficult,
Besyanteo: but likely to ruin whatever supplies are going out/destroy carts/something.
Seethe347: In that case, the demons probably wouldn't risk sending anything through the mountains. It would require a hypothetical situation where its do-or-die and they can't just send it through the Underworld. In that case, there could be a more serious war waged.
Besyanteo: *nod*
Seethe347: Looks like I have to get off. Should I try to contact you again? Also, mind if I copy and paste this somewhere?
Besyanteo: Feel free, and... Depends. If you think there's more to get done, then by all means. I'm online pretty often. :o
Seethe347: Okay, if I think of anything then.
Besyanteo: *nod* Sure! =D
Seethe347: You were wanting to talk to me, right?
