Not-So-Brief Synopsis
For as long as anyone can care to remember, the Order of Earth has been the major source of raw material for engineering, manufacture, coinage, etc. for the lion's share of the civilized lands of Elemaer. In the city of As'nar alone, it is estimated that 60% of all quarried stone, 65% of all iron superstructuring, 35% of all concrete and brick, and half of all wood for building (not to mention close enough to all of the city's currency that it makes no difference) originated in the Order of Earth's populous lumberyards, famous limestone quarries, and legendarily expansive mines. Such production is estimated to be the source of most (and rumored to be the source of
all) of the income for Verir's Order.
Unfortunately for the Order of Earth, a thousand years of finding and exploiting the raw materials of Elemaer have begun to suck dry the old mines, empty the quarries, and convert the ancient forests into fertile and low-priced agricultural land. As the military campaigns and expeditions of the Verites and the other four Orders slowly extend the influence of humanity over formerly monster-inhabited tracts of land, the Order of Earth keeps a sharp lookout for any areas that seem to be high in the resources they need, using mundane and magical methodology to divine the location of ore veins and mineral deposits in newly-colonized areas.
Recently, the area south of Tine Kir, on the southeast peninsular foot of the continent of Azurin, became the focus of a major and hugely successful reclamation campaign by the Order of Earth, winning the Order an area of land that has all the indications of being a veritable motherlode of high-quality iron ore, exactly the market that has taken the biggest hit in the past several years of the Order's economic nosedive.
However, strange events almost immediately began to take place in and around the mine once digging began - unexplained mechanical and magical failures of equipment, gas explosions in places that the diviners all agreed couldn't possibly contain gas, and - most recently - the disappearence of several mine workers. Something is going on in the mine that the Order was not prepared for and cannot explain. Lives and money have been lost, but the Order of Earth cannot ignore the metal that the mine definitely contains.
Thus, it is the decision of the administration of the Order of Earth that the building of the mine should continue as scheduled. The fourth crew is on its way, the Order taking a gamble by sending a crew consisting completely of initiated Verites (including a few highly promising engineers and experts), trusting that their skills will be enough to find the source of the problems and discover what happened to their missing colleagues.
Right. What I'd be looking for here would be members of the Order of Earth (and possibly one or two members of the Order of Water, because this mine may or may not need draining, or something). I don't know how many I want, but if there's a lot of interest I may decide that what I need is to bring on a second GM.
I want to know who's interested. I want to hear at least vague character concepts, which might include the following:
-engineers
-diviners
-warriors (the mine is close to the frontier)
-drainage specialists
This RP will happen on the board, in the Other RPs section. <p>__-__-__-__-__-__
