Mecha RP Signup

Unread postby Nakibe » Wed Sep 08, 2004 11:57 pm

Okay, D and I were wondering how much response we'd get to this suggested RP. Anyway, if you're interested in RPing, please respond. I'm already sure that one person would want in on this but... eh.

On the planet Kernel, it has been a glorious couple thousand years. The invention of space travel, and the creation of new technologies that have made life simpler and easier. But although these new inventions have brought some peace through the years... this does not mean that all is well.

The buildup of science and technology alongside advances in the arts of magic have also brought two countries into power. These two countries are slowly building up towards a fullscale war that, at its height, may very well engulf this world in flames, or so some speculate.

But all of this is idle speculation, for you are mecha pilots of some standing within one of these two warring countries, bound by duty and passion to defend your country from such a fate.

Okay, so that's it for now. Mostly we just want to see how many people will react to this. System we're currently considering using is BESM, with some info available here.
Anyway, please tell us what you think, and if you're interested.

Sounds interesting Image I shall consider this though I do work like SMACK dab in the middle of the after noon. From like 3-6 p.m. Also I'll need to make a new character.

One question what are the names of the two contries o.o;? What are the ranks people will get and stuff? Or will everyone just be mecha pillots?

But yea sure I'll join just hope this isn't like a chat RP or I might end up missing a lot ^^;. <p>Image</p>

I'd be tempted, though I'm leery of having to be a mecha pilot. I kind of envisioned something else. Like a soldier or a spy. Someone who uses magic as a main trait instead of mechas. <p>"There is great disorder under Heaven, and the situation is excellent."

Of course, count me in. I like mecha stuff.

Nev: In a sense, mecha pilots CAN effectively be soldiers and spies. BESM allows for stuff like invisibility (for a cloaking system, allowing for the whole spy bit.), and is generally anime-style, so expect more Gundam or Nadesico-style mechas than Mechwarrior. Thus, you have nothing to complain about. <p>ChibiUrusai: *chomps* I am underage. ^-^

While I won't be signing up due to being fed up with magic being integrated into everything for no real reason, I will add this delightful note!

If you think of BESM as a completely freeform and customizable RP system (which it is) instead of an Anime RP system (which it is, but in name only), then there's no problem with Mech Warrior style or whatever robots.

With that, I leave the thread! And awaaaaay we go! *zoom* <p>

Hmn...I've been having an itch for BESM for a while, so I'm game. I just need some more info on this RP world, and I'll be all set.

However, I have a question on the system.

Will we be integrating d20 Mech for this, or will it just be straight BESM?

More questions to come later as I think of them. <p>

From my conversations with Shaun, it will be straight BESM (not the d20. True BESM), to clarify your doubts. <p>ChibiUrusai: *chomps* I am underage. ^-^

Information Overload

Unread postby Nakibe » Sat Sep 11, 2004 12:47 am

More detailsss you say, and more detailsss we providesss, yesss...

The two sides at war are the Korathian Empire, and the Ariscene Confederation.

The Korathian Empire is a former monarchy-turned-republic. Its current king is King Timothy Lancaster II, currently 12. But the king is a figurehead for the most part. The current leader of Korathia is Elder Councilman Lancaster Strauss. The Korathian Empire is the largest single nation in the world, encompassing large amounts of land, though not all of it is actually inhabited.

On the other hand, there is the Ariscene Confederation, which is a loose confederation of nation-states that formed sometime within the past 50 years or so. The biggest names in this confederation are Lorrenia, Dunlavy, and Ahran. Supposedly this confederation was created in order to improve trading conditions between member countries, but popular rumor has it that the confederacy was created in order to counter Korathian aggressions. Not all of the member nations agree on the best way to handle things even now, and occasionally the old rivalries between these old countries prevent them from truly working together as effectively as they should.

The current war between Ariscene and Korathia has been brewing for several years now, perhaps even before the Ariscene Confederacy was even created. Much of the problem stems from Korathia's need for resources, which it consumes at quite a fast pace. Various disputes arose over usage and misuse of oil, wood, and other natural materials over the years.

But it wasn't until the bombing of a major Korathian factory, and the subsequent attack on Ariscenian mines that the conflict grew into anything bigger. Both sides hotly denied their part in the incidents, although the evidence suggested that each had tried to sabotage the other. The incidents have yet to be fully investigated, however, as the countries began military operations against one another under the guise of "Protecting their interests" in other countries.

The PCs are working for the Korathian Empire, so that you know. Mecha pilots are recommended but not entirely necessary if you can come up with an arrangement for some other character with a mecha to carry you at times.

Once I scrounge up a copy of normal BESM for everyone to peruse, I'll link to it here. A few rules have already been worked out for our sanity and for some semblance of similarity between characters.

* Every character will be made with 30 character points.
* The attribute "Dynamic Sorcery" is explicitly barred from this RP, although "Magic" is allowed. I'm just simply not going to make a judgement call every time you want to cast a spell, is all.
* Every character that is a mecha pilot can only get a maximum of 3 levels of the Own Big Mecha advantage.
Each mecha is required to have the advantages : Toughness Lv 2 and Life Support Lv 2, totalling 10 Mecha Points.
* For our convenience, please leave an explanation of what you want to do with any Special Attack stuff that you buy. It at least helps to keep things in-genre, if nothing else.
* DO feel free to give your attributes names, if you see fit. AFTER the attribute name, of course.
* Aside from these, don't hesitate to ask me about any BESM (or d20 BESM) Advantage you might have your heart set upon.

And if you have any system questions, catch me on AIM, and I'll either grumble at you or be happy to help. Probably both.

Edit 1: Edited to make clear the new Character Point limit.

Okay, because I feel its important, I'm downgrading all Players to 30 Character Points total. Why? Because I don't want the X-Men or Captain Planet or somesuch running around. >:{ This should not really affect your mecha creation much if at all.

However, this WILL mean that you'll probably have to re-think some of the advantages you DO give your characters, or at least limit them to reasonable levels. If you don't know or actually DO want to build something along the superheroic lines, then at least do me the favor of asking first.

Fun Fact: Shaun just made it easier for me to decide point allocations by doing that.

Other Fun Fact: Prevention of Captain Planet running around is a good thing, for he has the Gheys. And according to Neb, the Rickets as well. <p>ChibiUrusai: *chomps* I am underage. ^-^

Samuel McGregor

Backstory: While not an intellectual so to speak, Sam is fairly intelligent. At the early age of 17 he applied for the military, and rose through their ranks until becoming a mech pilot. Today he's 22, and a hot-shot pilot of a flying-type mech, which is his pride and joy. He's noticably defensive of this vehicle, and was once reprimanded for beating a drunk into unconciousness for scuffing the paint job with a crow bar.

Personality: For the most part, Sam is a good person. He's jsut a bit... stubborn. And Defensive. ... And occasionally insecure. ... Perhaps just a bit overly agressive? Sam has a few flaws, but his friends know he'll stick with them until death or accidental ship-damage do them part.

Name: Rebekah Abrams
Age: 19
Gender: Female
Physical Appearance: An attractive young black woman, with light brown skin. Deep brown eyes, and short, dark brown hair.

Backstory

Rebekah Abrams had a fairly normal life, as far as family goes. Two parents, only child, middle class...all that jazz. Things would have probably been somewhat mundane for her while growing up.

If not for one thing.

Rebekah has always felt...things. Strange things. For example, she'd meet a guy in a store, and get some really strange vibes off of him...and next week, he winds up on the news, charged with murder. Stuff like that.

This wasn't all, though. Sometimes, she would get odd flashes of things to come...see flashes of light out the corner of her eye, hear conversations that weren't there, but alluded to something that would happen on...it was almost as if she could sense flashes of the future.

As she got older, these feelings would get stronger and more intense, bordering on true premonitions. Being rather curious for a way to channel this (as well as beginning to grow desparate for a way to just control it), she began her research into some rather esoteric studies. After a few years of practice and dedication, she managed to succeed. Her sixth sense became honed, and she no longer has random visions...on the downside to this, though, she now must concentrate extremely hard to get any sort of insight into the future.

These experiences have given Rebekah a unique insight onto the state of things. She realises that there are big changes on the horizon. However, she isn't content to just observe...she wants to get involved. As a result, she has joined the army of the Korathian nation, in order to help shape her nation’s destiny.

Arma Backstory: Persephone

How she was Acquired

As it turns out, Rebekah's timing couldn't have been better. Her entry into the military coincided with the timing of the Persephone Project, a new effort on the part of military engineers. Basically, the Persephone Project is an experiment to see not only if sentient Armae are possible, but also if they are superior to normal models.

Certain officials, noting that she had an unusual empathy, approached her with the the possibility of joining in on a new project. She accepted, and after a few tests, was found to be greatly suitable to pilot one of the prototypes. While she is still learning the ropes of piloting, she should grow to be a highly competant pilot for the mech.

The Arma Herself

Persephone-06 is the sixth of these experimental Armae, but the first one fit to be piloted. Being newly awakened, so to speak, she isn't all that bright, nor does she have the strongest of "spirits" (or, whatever counts as a spirit, for an Arma unit). However, her personality seems to be somewhat gentle, and eager to learn about her new world. She has a strong bond with the scientists who built her, as well as her new friend, Becky.

However, her mind isn't just confined to her mechanical body (the hardware.) She can be hooked up to a computer, where her mind exists in an advanced virtual reality simulator. This is usually how she learns while her body is shut down, as well as how she interracts with the people involved with her. In fact, even before her body was completed, her mind was being tinkered and experimented with outside of the Arma body.

Weapons:

Vibration Sword: An experiment in new weaponry. This is a sword with an extendable blade, that can be activated while in battle. Most of the time it’s in “standby mode”, with only the hilt and a small portion of the blade visible. It stays on an energy console of sorts on Persephone’s right arm.

When it use, it detaches from the console, and into Persephone’s hand. The blade extends, and locks together to make sure it stays together. The blade then begins to vibrate, inflicting damage upon those it hits.

Additional information: The hilt also acts as a generator to power the sword.

Advantage: (Unique) Quick Powerup: Normally, a weapon like this would take a turn to power up and be ready for use. However, this particular model can be activated and used in the same turn.

Disadvantage: Unreliable: When a roll involving this weapon comes up as an eleven or a twelve, the weapon either jams, fails, breaks, explodes, ceases to function, etc.

Energy Cannon: More information coming soon.

The Great Nevareh

Re: TWOMP >_<

Unread postby The Great Nevareh » Tue Sep 14, 2004 10:41 pm

This character most likely has some mechanical flaws in it, but I can’t figure anything else out without people telling me. As I’m unfamiliar with the system, please bear with me, and since I don’t have access to the manual for standard BESM. So, please tell me what I’ve done wrong.
Edit: I talked with Shawn, and he told me a few of my problems. Mostly he told me about how emotionally unstable I was, and how I should seek help, but some of the problems he addressed had to do with the sheet, and therefore I applied his advice. Future advice expected.
Noah Balbanes(If you recognize this name, you get a cookie! Or nothing. Since I'm cheap.)
Note: I did some re-working due to new information that I found on Oath's stats. He lost Flight and higher Toughness, and I re-distributed other points into the re-worked weapons systems, improved shielding, and Jumping. I also got rid of the DEIP technology in exchange for a ficticious technology that I understand the workings of and thus can spout techno-babble about it.)

Age: 24

Physical appearance: About 5'8'', wiry and slim. Can't weigh more than 145 lbs by appearance, but in truth weights somewhere around 160 lbs, since he is made up almost entirely of muscle. His face is thin but kind, with soft green eyes and well-kempt dark hair that falls neatly around his smooth, unblemished face. He is, without a doubt, extremely attractive and bishy. His main problem is that people tend to think he's 16.

Persona: Noah is probably one of the nicest and most unassuming people you will ever meet. He's really a nice guy, but he is definitely not a leader. He is not made to take initiative, and therefore is easy to walk on and get to do what you like. He's not suave or debonair, and thus fails when trying to attract someone. Oddly enough, there are plenty of people who end up attracted to HIM in a non-reciprocating manner. Noah also is easily emotionally hurt, since he tends to look down on himself. He also doesn’t tend to contradict people about his age, even if they’re wrong.

Noah is, also, a regionally famous person. Many people have heard of him, though no one is quite sure what he looks like because there tend not to be many pictures of people like him circling around at once. His Mecha (which he calls “Oath”) is also somewhat famous, and when he claims to be THE Noah Balbanes who pilots the Oath, people look at him blankly. Since he isn’t very assertive, he doesn’t force the issue. So, if people don’t believe him, he probably isn’t going to correct them.

Backstory: Noah is the youngest child of a prolifically large and incredibly talented family of 19. He had a lot to live up to, as all of his elder siblings were strong, athletic, brilliant, willful, resourceful, charismatic, and handsome, just like his parents. Because he considered himself less able than the rest of his family, he tried his hardest to instead have a heart of gold. However, having a heart of gold only really works if you have a spine of steel and a will of iron. Thus he became even easier to walk on.
In a subconscious effort to be unique, but mostly because he didn’t want to compete with the rest of his family, Noah joined the army to become a soldier- And was tested as a pilot of incredible potential. So he received lots of intensive training, which made him a great combatant and yet did nothing to change his outlook on life or his general personality.
Noah proceeded to make a name for himself (albeit not directly or even willingly) in military circles by being a crafty, skilled, and astoundingly able mecha pilot, and he received his own commission at an age before most pilots receive theirs.
Noah then distinguished himself in battle multiple times until he received no mean amount of fame which was never attached to him. People either didn’t make the connection between Noah and “The” Noah Balbanes, thought that it was just a coincidence, or thought that Noah was actively trying to impersonate the famous Balbanes. Only a few people actually believe him, because he rarely if ever presses the issue due to his low self esteem and drive.
Noah also has yet to experience anything like love, lust, a crush, or anything. He’s too quiet and young-looking to attract anyone his own age, and he’s too law-abiding and self-moral to willingly attract someone in the age group he LOOKS like he belongs in. However, even though he isn’t attractive to those he wishes to attract, he IS attractive to some people who, for some reason or another, decide they must have him. These men and women range from pedophiles to anime freaks to high-schoolers and everyone in between. There’s just something about a very youthful bishounen that attracts them to him like flies to whatever it is flies really like. And he really, really wishes they would go away, though he doesn’t have the heart to tell them that. Since he never openly rejects anyone, he is still hotly contested amongst his admirers. Strangely enough, not one of his admirers think that he’s the same person as “The” Noah Balbanes, since they all think Noah is somewhere between the ages of 14 and 17.
He leads a quirky life. And, even though it has its huge, gaping faults and inadequacies that he really shouldn’t put up with, he isn’t saying anything. He’s just too nice to.

Defects:
Ageism- 1 point
Guy/Girl Magnet- 2 points
Easily Distracted (by Political debate)- 1 point
Fame- 2 points
Conditional Ownership (Army)- 2 points

Mecha Stats (Oath)-
(Notes on Oath- What started out as a normal Mecha when Noah first was issued it has slowly become a highly customized and highly recognizeable Mecha that perfectly suits Noah's piloting style. It uses Gauss theorem technology in its weapons, effectively doing tremendous damage with pebbles. Oath is capable of quick reaction times in exchange for flight, and is capable of absorbing damage at a much higher rate due to its force field. It also travels more slowly than other, swifter mechas due to its lack of flight and low ground speed. Oath is a Soldier's mecha, made for fighting, not for logistics or information gathering.)

HP- 80

Attributes
Summonable Rank 2 (8 points) (Mech takes no time to arrive)
Personal Force Field Rank 4 (12 points- Regenerating, can block 45 damage)
Special Attacks (4 ranks main, 2 sub-weapons) (18 points)
Gauss Cannon (4 ranks, maximum force) (16 points)
A weapon that shoots small, mundane projectiles at relativistic speeds. One projectile is used in each attack, but the sheer kinetic energy of the projectile makes it as damaging as many other conventional weapons, by way of the e=mc^2 phenomenon. However, the projectile must be fired at a certain threshold- below that threshold the damage is negligible, and this weapon fires at just above the threshold energy necessary to damage opponents. This projectile, going several hundred thousand times faster than a bullet, cannot be stopped by being shot out of the air, and functions much like a beam weapon.
75 damage to a target, ranged combat
Gauss Shells(3 rank- Long Range, Area Effect (2) Uses Ammunition, Max Force, Activation Time 1, 1 point- secondary)
A reliable prototype of a weapon that uses the Gauss theorems to project special rounds over long distances very quickly. By magnetically "exciting" the shells (which takes a short period of time), the cannon can fire these shells at relativistic speeds over long distances. These shells explode upon impact, and are designed in such a way that detonation is next-to-impossible unless the weapon arrives with appropriate kinetic energy (which is traditionally imparted by the cannon when fired). Due to the viciously high speed at which these shots are fired, they appear to arrive instantly at their destination, and are as difficult to dodge as a beam weapon. These shells are shot using the same machinery as the projectiles from the Gauss Cannon, but due to their much higher rest mass react much differently in the process, and thus do not do the sheer damage that the projectiles do. However, they do travel extremely long distances and they explode upon impact, so the trade-off is worthwhile to a degree.
45 damage to targets in area, whatever appropriate area is for a mecha.
Machine Vulcan(1 point- secondary)(Auto-Fire, Innacurate, 3 rank)
A more mundane and easy-to-use alternative to Gauss weaponry that is capable of attacking on a smaller scale. Is ideal for smaller opponents. Built into the mecha.
45 damage to a target.
Life Support Rank 2 (2 points)
Toughness Rank 2 (8 points)
Speed rank 5 (5 points)
Electronic Countermeasures rank 2- Anti-Missle, Anti-Sensor, Anti-Communications (3 points)

Things I should say first and foremost: I have never used this system before, and thus my character probably contains all sorts of mechanical flaws. I found a character generator to help me out, and this made things a little easier, but still, feel free to point out errors in this piece of crap.

Zeph Fellis

Age: 21

Appearance: Rather non-descript. Average height and weight (5'9", 145 lbs), red hair, dresses in uniform, or light weight jackets and long pants.

Persona: Provided people actually take notice of him, they will most likely find one of the most determined, resolved, and trustworthy people they ever meet. Something about Zeph makes him seem reliable, be it his rather even-headed demeanor, or his seemingly ever-pleasent face. Furthermore, Zeph is highly determined, making his way through life not by aptitude or luck, but rather by sheer bullheadedness. It sometimes seems like he can make something succeed simply by doing it over and over- something you are likely to see happenning quite a bit, as he is almost never successful on his first try. He also has a taste for weird or quirky ideas, which may be a part of his repeated failures.

Backstory: So there's nothing special about his history. No tragic family deaths, no devestating accident, no twisted evil sibling/cousin. He had loving parents, a sister he bickered with the usual ammount, and a dog he loved very much. (The dog eventually died, but that's to be expected...)
However, Zeph always lagged just a tad bit behind in school. He didn't learn very well, and he got teased more than the usual ammount because of it. He was held back one year, and only graduated by the skin of his teeth. However, he was determined to become a mecha pilot, simply to prove that he could.
Upon becoming a mecha pilot, he hit his first obstacle in training. He had to go through basic twice in order to pass his exams, and his advanced training saw him sitting up nights studying and practicing just in order to pass by the skin of his teeth. His second obstacle was the fact that, even though he did pass, people were reluctant to entrust any unit to him. It wasn't that they didn't like him, it was just the fact that... they didn't want to loose the equipment.
And then the Sigma came up. It was sent to Zeph's unit as a "failed experiment." The Mecha's unique four armed piloting mechanics had been judged too complicated for a human to handle It was scheduelled to be scrapped, and was held at the unit's base as a temporary holding location, to be moved on at a later date. The red tape being what it was, the mecha never got moved on. When he learned that an unissued mecha was on base, Zeph managed to sweet talk his CO into letting him pilot it.
One week of near-sleepless nights later, Zeph had the rudimentary basics of the machine down. His demonstration of his piloting skill to the satisfaction of the higher ranking members of the military, and it was eventually officially issued to him as his own, personal mecha. Zeph has been piloting it (with moderate success and accompanying acknowledgement) ever since.

Thus far my character is the oldest, a seasoned veteran at the ripe old age of 24. I honestly didn't expect that. <p>"There is great disorder under Heaven, and the situation is excellent."

I AM A ROBOT

Unread postby FlamingDeth » Wed Sep 15, 2004 6:43 pm

Ok! Some people will wonder why there's two versions of the robot on here! This is because Shaun is probably going to outright reject the first one. And stuff!

EDIT: Second version of Indra has been removed, due to Shaun not rejecting the first one after all.

For the longest time, Caedmon Despond was just a normal middle class kid in the Korathian empire. He did relatively well in school, not brilliantly, but decently enough to get by with no real problems, was on some sports team or other, and had no hobbies of real interest. Oh, sure, he would do the occasional parlor trick for his friends ("You are holding the seven of hearts!"), but actual magical abilities? Pshaw.

At the ripe old age of 13, however, his little tricks became more and more elaborate. He began actually dabbling in magic of real power, and this drew the interest of more military minded folk. He was constantly battered by the requests of recruiters, and even his parents said that it would be a good career move. He finally succumbed to peer (and parental) pressure, and was shipped off to a military school at the age of 15. No harm in that, as there's no war going on...right?

Well, as it turned out, war broke out after all, and what better place to recruit soldiers than a military school? Before long, Caedmon (now having received professional magical training) was also sent in for mecha training, and by the age of 20, he was fighting on the front lines. This lasted for a grand total of a year before he was picked up for the Ashta-Dikpalas (read mecha background) project, during the stage where they began using the pilots themselves as catalysts.

It has been three months since Caedmon and Indra were assigned to the front for further testing, and due to Indra feeding on his blood, Caedmon's once healthy and sporting build has been shot to hell. He now appears to be lithe and pale, and those around him sometimes wonder why he isn't sent off on medical leave. Most assume that it's because of a shortage of specialized experimental pilots and engineers, not even suspecting that his mech may not even allow others to pilot it. In addition, as a side effect of the project and his continual linkage to Indra (and thus another mind), he's been having terrible nightmares. He can never remember what they are, though, and due to the suspicion that it's related to the project, he isn't permitted to attempt to get help from anyone without classified authorization.

Caedmon, on an interesting note, has yet to meet any of the seven other pilots of the Ashta-Dikpalas project, and can only assume that they exist. He trusts that he'll be able to meet them at the conclusion of the testing period, when it's decided whether or not the units go into mass production.

He is a generally cheery person, despite his unhealthy appearance, and is fairly open about himself, as long as it doesn't concern classified material. He tries to give people the benefit of the doubt when he first meets them, though at the same time, it takes some time to actually earn his trust. Not that people try, as most consider him just a tad creepy, what with his looks and the constant pattern of waking up at night in a cold sweat, and occasional mumbling about "the darkness", and insistence on proper lighting when on missions.

The Korathian empire's creation of the Ashta-Dikpalas Project stems directly from the codevelopment of magic and technology. The project, originally focusing on attempting to improve mecha power and abilities by means of magic, involved taking 8 identical mecha (older, decommissioned models) and modifying their power and control systems to accomodate the Ramachandran Core. The RC, as it quickly became called (as no one liked trying to pronounce it's real name), was essentially a small computer and power plant constructed of the most magically reactive materials available, and a connection harness that connected itself directly to the pilot's nervous system. Each of the RCs was configured slightly differently.

The project appeared to be a dismal failure. About to lose their funding, one of the scientists behind the project made a startling discovery. In order for a proper linkage to take place between the nervous system and the mecha, and in order for the magical materials to be "activated", some sort of pre-imbued magical catalyst was necessary. Now, this wasn't what was startling. What was startling is that it need a virtually constant flow of whatever catalyst was found was needed to keep the mecha working properly. To this end, the machines were altered for thaumaturgical purposes, and new pilots were found. This time, the pilots all had shown some degree of magical abilities.

The project's success skyrocketed at that point. The robots showed seemless tactile abilities, with the pilots manipulating them almost as if they were their own bodies, and the little extras (communication systems, weapons, special equipment, etc) required little concentration to activate. They excelled in most things, especially melee combat. The cost? The pilots always seemed sickly and exhausted, as the robots took their blood as a sort of fuel source almost as fast as they could regenerate it, resulting in the pilots constantly missing almost a pint of blood. However, this was deemed acceptable, and the project was pushed into full scale testing, with the robots being sent to the front lines.

Since then, some...interesting...observations have been made concerning the project. The RCs seemed to be developing their own rudimentary intelligence. They also appeared to be reconfiguring the mecha to fit what they decide would be better suited to the pilot while making the robots more "organic", with small actuators being replaced with artificial muscle, nerve endings developing in the place of touch sensors, and the like. In addition, most of the pilots felt the haunting presence of their mecha, even when disconnected, and some even seeing the robots in their sleep. This was all deemed "acceptable", however, when the military saw how much better connected the machines were to their pilots, and how much better they functioned in combat.

Now, in the present, the pilots have all become trained engineers, in order to keep knowledge of the results of the project a secret. By order of the highest of military authorities, only the pilots are permitted to effect repairs on their mecha, and even then, they have to remain silent on how these experimental robots work. The machines are still only slightly organic, and still look completely mechanical (on the outside, at least). How long will it stay this way? Only the military higher-ups know the answer to that.

This particular subject from the Ashta-Dikpalas project, Unit Indra, has been assigned to the pilot Caedmon Desmond. The external appearance of Indra is, at this point, mostly red, with white accents. If one had to describe it's appearance, it would be a mechanical man wearing the mechanical skin of a four-tusked mechanical elephant. The unit's arms are fairly normal until you get to the forearms, in which case they become ellipsoid, with three narrow ellipses above the "knuckles". The hands are just plates bolted to the underside of the forearms, with two curved claw fingers and a curved claw thumb. Indra can also fly, with jets mounted on the back and legs.

The most used weapon on Indra is referred to as "liquid metal". This is a malleable material that is secreted from the knuckle holes, which then forms into whatever weapon the pilot wishes. However, in order to get anything /useful/, the pilot has to spend time getting both himself and Indra to learn the form. Right now, Caedmon can cause a spike to come from each of the holes and twist themselves into a sort of hooking sword, or he can fire a short javelin-like projectile from the middle hole, or he can cause streams from each of the holes to weave together into a net. The more rarely used ability is some sort of electrical power, emanating from what appears to be a lens in the front and back of each shoulder. Right now Caedmon can only fire a single lightning bolt from each, but he hopes to be able to do more with it later. Indra's fingers can also be used as claws in an emergency.

That is all! <p>

Also Also! Because it is important...

I will be GONE for this whole weekend, as I have to go to one funeral and then a birthday almost immediately after. Please post your sheets betwee now and Friday, PLEASE. Otherwise, there's a chance that I won't be here to either help you with them or check them over the weekend. And then the yelling and biting begins. Nobody wants that.

Anyone who still needs access to a ruleset... unfortunately I haven't found the official BESM online ANYWHERE yet, but I haven't looked too hard either, I admit. HOWEVER...

BESM d20 rules are located here, labeled "Anime d20 System Reference Document". Those are good enough to actually make a sheet with, keeping in mind that there will be a FEW changes between it and BESM that I'll have to account for.

Also, if FD is willing, he has the actual BESM book and could potentially help people build their characters and/or mecha while I'm gone.

Anyway, this is your (less-)friendly GM saying "Your soul is MINE!!! >:{"

The subject, who refers to himself, and insists on being referred to as "Dominion", refuses to disclose his real name. Having come from a high-standing family, he has been sheltered for his entire life, only having met with his parents and private tutors. He was, in an attempt to obtain a better reputation for the family, forced into recruitment within our military. Subject has gained a peculiar, rare disorder in a general time period, requiring constant monitoring during stressful situations and treatment at regular intervals. Theoretically, the disorder is not serious if given treatment, though uncurable by all known means. Nevertheless, subject has risen in rank to the point where he has been allowed to pilot a prototype Arma, serial number KW-001a Tabris. Subject appears to be very inexperienced in social matters, thanks to his upbringing, but nonetheless, appears to be very promising in the future, given the current circumstances persist.

--Mecha Details--
Name: KW-001a "Tabris"
Profile:The KW-001a Tabris prototype model is, logically, a new-generation weapon. This Arma is designed as a high-mobility attack unit, with a highly aerodynamic shape and some of the most powerful verniers that we could outfit it with. The Arma itself can utilize these thrusters for flight, as well as ground boosting and jumping, the lattermost of which has been calculated to potentially be able to propel the into orbit given maximum speed and booster output. Despite the high mobility, this is well-armored and should stand up to most forms of punishment that it can't dodge long enough to eliminate the threat. Additionally, the Arma has been equipped with a variety of weapons, suited to attack varied targets with. An Arma that is, to us, highly versatile, and hopefully valuable in the future.
Recently, we have given this Arma a number of upgrades, first and foremost with the main thrusters, which have been given a massive overhaul. The output on these thrusters has been multiplied by a massive amount and can result in near-instantaneous movement, but due to overheating and control concerns, can only be fired in short bursts. Specialized control software has been programmed into the Arma interface, helping with controlling even these excessively powerful short bursts, which would not be alone humanly possible to control easily. To counteract the force of these main verniers, braking thrusters have been installed with enough power to stop, though once again, these thrusters have a maximum threshold. Additionally, some extra software, such as that to handle the heat rod, has been installed and generator conduits have been improved for better power transfer overall. Finally, a basic sensory array has been equipped onto the Arma, allowing one to be notified of any and all incoming and present targets.

--Mecha Attributes--
Toughness Rank 2 (+40 HP):8 points
Life Support Rank 2: 2 points

--Defects--
Restriction (Teleportation: Crosses intervening space, Interruptible): +2 BP

--Special Attack Listings--
Special Attack: Wave #1: Decimator (Prototype)
This is the first in our new-generation weapons, and is in a fully functional mode. The first of the first, this attacks with energies drawn directly from the pilot, which are focused, amplified, and finally shot out in a spreading blast. This makes the attack fairly difficult to avoid. Strangely enough, we have noticed that these energies deconstruct whatever they impact on an atomic level via breaking of intramolecular bonds, a manner that nanomachines and similar autorepair systems are apparently unable to handle, making this a useful weapon.
Base rank: 4
Advantages: Spreading, No Regeneration
Disadvantages: Uses Energy x1
Total Rank: 3 (45 damage)
Energy Cost: 5

Special Attack: Wave #2: Destroyer (Test Model)
Utilizing the same general methods to our Wave #1: Decimator, this weapon is designed to attack large groups. The Wave #2: Destroyer, sadly, is unable to properly augment smaller amounts of energy to the quantity required yet. Until we can design a proper system to handle these quantities of energy, we will have to settle for a much larger draw amount, approximating to almost four times that of the Wave #1: Decimator. The firing system is also evidently still under a test model, as it is heavily flawed, leaking some of the energy and occasionally, the fire-control system for this weapon malfunctions and refuses to fire the weapon, and the energy disperses within. So far, this weapon has been observed to put a large amount of strain on the pilot, most likely thanks to the extra draw. Logically, the Arma stands still while the weapon is fired due to this. On the plus side to the weapon, the fire-control system for this is especially accurate, and the energy, shot out as a small burst, explodes on impact and lingers for a short amount of time. It deals the same general type of irreparable damage as the Wave #1: Decimator, again deconstructing the targets on an atomic level. An effective weapon for clearing out chokepoints and crowds alike, but it is recommended to the pilot that this be used sparingly, for his own safety.
Base rank: 4
Advantages: Area Effect x1, No Regeneration, Accurate x1, Enduring x1
Disadvantages: Uses Energy x2, Static, Backblast, Unreliable
Total Rank: 6 (90 damage)
Energy Cost: 20

Special Attack: Distortion Lancer
Description:A contact weapon, this is a device that emits waves on the same wavelength as those on forcefields, causing them to invert on themselves and in a majority of cases, eventually collapse on their now distorted structure. The weapon itself eliminates large quantities of energy when used, some of it leaking out the back, making it slightly unsafe for those behind the user.
A slight upgrade of the generator and the power conduits now leads to a more freely usable version of this weapon. No longer must it rely on pilot-drawn power. Additionally, thanks to the research one Dr. Solace Zephyr, previously theoretical usages of such a weapon now are a reality. By controlling the emission of the waves in a linear pattern akin to that of a beam weapon, an enemy's forcefield can effectively be inverted and bent into a pointed surface via the Damian effect that at the tip, is no more than a nanometer. Utilizing the forcefield's general durability, a strength of an Arma's strike, and the simple physics behind the point, this weapon is excessively useful for combating shielded enemies of any and all types.
Base Rank:4
Advantages: Targeted (Shielded Enemies) Penetrating(Forcefield)x2
Disadvantages: Melee, Backblast
Final Rank: 4 (120 damage vs Shielded, 0 vs. other)

Special Attack: Dual HR
This is a pair of standard heat rods intertwined together--weapons that are metallic and whiplike in nature, but are heated to provide a cutting effect akin to a bladed weapon, only with more armor penetration. Due to the flexibility of this weapon, it is difficult to defend against. This weapon is connected to the generator directly, and thus does not need to draw energy from the pilot or use an internal battery--the energy draw is low enough to support such.
Recently, new targeting software specialized in this Arma has dealt with a former accuracy issue that pilots from before have often voiced their issues about. Additionally, the new structure of the heat rod allows for heavier strikes onto a single point, as opposed to a former design where two lighter strikes were spread on the target. Now a fearsome weapon in melee combat.
Base Rank: 4
Advantages: Flexible, Penetrating (Armor) x1
Disadvantages: Melee
Final Rank:4 (60 damage)

Special Attack: Red Viper
A pilot familiar with any whiplike armament can execute multiple strikes with little effort. By snapping the weapon arm back at the supposed end of its sweep, it can create a second, lesser and even somewhat glancing, but nevertheless still damaging pass. Combined with the already cutting nature of a heat rod, this technique can deal grievous damage to the unwary.
Base Rank: 4
Advantages: Linked (Dual Heat-rod)
Disadvantages: None
Final Rank: 2 (30 damage)

Personal Gear:KW-AMG/22 Machine Gun
A surplus older-model machine gun from Korathia's older models. Though not so new, it is still a machine gun, and can thus make swiss cheese out of a massive variety of materials.
Damage: 15 (Autofire)
Advantages: Autofire
Disadvantages: Static
Proficiency: Heavy Weapons

Edit: Numerous mecha upgrades. <p>ChibiUrusai: *chomps* I am underage. ^-^
Arch mage144: This means nothing to me. =P

Of note: The BESM "fast play" rules are on the Guardians of Order web site, and can help greatly with conversions from BESM d20, should Shaun or I not be online. :O

EDIT: And since no one has mentioned it and it hasn't been decided yet, methinks that if a suitable time can be found, chat would be better for this. <p>

Diran: Alright, Nama. In the interest of not making Charles feel like he's the only one we're picking on...

Jinto: Really, people, we do try to hit everybody, it's just that some characters are less...suitable to our assessments.

Diran: Right. Now. I don't have a clue about this mecha system nonsense, but you're a number monkey, so I'm going to assume you're right.

Hzar: It. Works. I. Think.

Pelos: Alright. He refuses to reveal his real name, but he comes from a high-standing family.

Diran: I'd sort of assume if they knew the family he came from, they'd know at least the last name, and from there, it's really not hard to find a first name.

Pelos: Anyway. Isn't 21 a bit too old for l337 |-|4|\||)|_ 35?
But I digress.

Diran: I don't know how you did that, but never do it again.

Pelos: Can do!

Diran: Now. the Mecha description seems to be indicating that it has a power levelz fo oen milleion!11!111!11

Pelos: Diran?

Diran: What?

Pelos: I don't know how you did that, but never do it again.

Diran: Can do!

Pelos: Now. Some more stats that leap over our heads like frightened, confused gazelles, and the first attack.

Diran: The decimator. So it'll kill, like, 10% of someone.

Pelos: Dood.

Diran: ...

Pelos: Can do!

Diran: This next one is incredibly powerful, but a gigantic strain on the pilot.

Meldon: KAIOKHAAAAAAAN TIMES TEN!

Meldon: ...

Meldon: Can do!

Meldon: ...

Meldon: Guys?

Meldon: Hello?

Meldon: Where'd you g-*PUNCHED*

Diran: Thank you. Now. The next attack is the 'Distortion Cracker'.

Yinnea: Do you think it's high in carbs?

Diran: ...

Yinnea: Oh, look at the time. *flee*

Diran: NOW. It breakses the forcefieldses. But it uses power from the pilot, which is somehow preferable to using the Mecha.

Fenron: Obviously! The answer is always to kill off your pilot as fast as possible!

Diran: Exactly! Next...we have Quatre whips. Yes, he's got heat rods.

Yinnea: ...why does that sound vaguely kinky to me?

Diran: Because you are a freak, Yinnea. Go away.

Yinnea: No, seriously. You've got the whips, and the heat, and the...

Diran: Because you are a FREAK, YINNNEA. GO AWAY.

Yinnea: Pfft. Fine! Fine!

Diran: Now, in conclusion.

Jooie fails to understand how the system works, thus all his complaints (except for leet handles, because I refuse to try to spell it in leet or scroll down to copy and paste) are null. Better luck next time. :( <p>

*Celebrates*

For once, Banjooie isn't hawking a loogie in my direction. I am amazed, awed, and thankful. On another note- Banj isn't saying that anything's numerically wrong, he's just pointing out what he considers either highly illogical or highly unlikely. He does have a couple of points- like the High-Standing Family one.

I understand it's not my place to say these things, since I'm not the GM, but since Banj never qualifies or defends what he says after he says it, I felt that someone had to, to some degree. If not, then THOU SHALT NOT HAVE SEXUAL RELATIONS WITH MONICA LEWINSKY! <p>"There is great disorder under Heaven, and the situation is excellent."

CELEBRATE THIS eVe

Unread postby Nakibe » Fri Sep 24, 2004 5:46 pm

Alright alright alright. Time for updates and stuff. And then we get down to the business of SHATTERING HOPES AND DREAMS.

Currently Dan and I are talking Chat RP. We're probably going to need to find out what times you're all available for this sort of thing. Hopefully we'll be able to get together more than one time per week or something.

So far my own availability is on Friday, Saturday, and Sunday, with any other days having to wait till after 8:20 EST.

NEXT, we have decided to only have 5 or 6 RPers. Unfortunately this means we will have to reject a couple of you insane crazies in order to preserve space in the asylum. Or something like that. Any sheets that aren't up by, say... Tuesday of this upcoming week will be met with extreme violence. Or just won't get into the RP. Something like that.

I'll celebrate your mom!

Unread postby FlamingDeth » Fri Sep 24, 2004 6:54 pm

On that note, even if you don't make it by Tuesday, post your sheets anyways so that I can rudely insult them, because I'm a bad person.

Also, to give this post real content, I shall edit it with character design sketches when I get home or tommorrow. And by "edited" I might mean "I'll make a new post", depending on how lazy I am. <p>

I'm available most nights after this weekend (anime con, woo). Just as long as I'm off by midnight on Sunday through Thursday, I'm fine.

If there are days I'm not available (like, plans with friends, or other RPs), I'll give notice ahead of time. <p>

It has come to my attention that I have forgotten to mention...

Dan apparently only has Saturdays free at the moment. Is this going to be a problem for too many of you folk?

For the most part, no, although other weekend plans may get in the way. When this comes up, I'll let you two know ahead of time. <p>

As long as I know if it's happening for sure every saturday. Cause if it gets canceled for whatever reason and people don't inform me before, like, wednesday of that week, someone gets punched. :( <p>
