The Mysterious Plot! Who'd Want to Kill the Inventor!?

Unread postby Archmage144 » Fri Jan 21, 2005 12:07 am

Pardon the Slayers-esque episode title. I was feeling goofy.

This could also be titled "Paranoia Actualized."

Priam, Pervy, NQ, Kai, and Shini, post your times for continuing this RP. Fridays are right out, for the note, because that's when I run weekly tabletop D&D sessions, unless you want to start sometime after midnight, which would involve my GMing continously from about 6 PM until God-only-knows in the morning, but we could do it because I'm terminally insane.

Anyway. Schedule! <p>

Most days I can be here by midnight EDT.

Some days I can be around by 10pm EDT.

Thursdays I am completely free unless otherwise specifically noted. <p><span style="font-size:xx-small;">"It's in the air, in the headlines in the newspapers, in the blurry images on television. Hmn!

Actually, I can do Sunday after all!

Other days post-Saturday are good, but my exact times clash with the night owls involved in this. Except for Fridays and Saturdays, the latest I can stay on is 1:30 AM. Stupid school. <p>

Well, if it turns out things will work for tonight, we can actually potentially do that, but it'd mean starting post-midnight. We can also shoot for Sunday. <p>

I'm available Friday(latelate), Saturday, or Sunday night. Beyond that, I get off work at nine o'clock every night. <p>-------------------------

Probably starting somewhere between 9 and 10 PM, with Priam's movements potentially being a factor. <p>

OK. This RP is going to be hopefully continued, if all goes well, as a GURPS RP that will meet on a weekly basis until it concludes, which could be...well, I have no idea exactly how long it will take, but I have a whole plot growing in my head like kudzu, so we've gotta do something to get it out of there if I'm ever going to be able to survive.

Kai, Pervy, Shini, Neb, and Priam have reserved slots, and I'm not taking anyone else unless one of them really doesn't want to be involved. If one of them drops, people who know GURPS get priority over those who do not. I will be teaching people who do not know how to play what they need to know sometime during this week whenever I can, preferably all of you at once, but if that's not possible, then I'll do whatever I can. I have some books but need to get a few more--going to do that as soon as possible, too.

Also. This is a disclaimer, and I intend to point this out to the person to whom it pertains--at least some of this RP is going to take place in Valth. One of two things is going to happen.

The person in question, who should be obvious (*COUGHDOUGCOUUUUUGH*), is going to tell me every fucking last detail about Valth. And he's going to write it down in an organized fashion so I can refer to it later, while preferably allowing me some leeway so I can improvise things without him bitching at me because "I got it wrong."

Or, the person in question gives me no information and I assume everything, ignoring potential canon, because no written canon exists on Valth, and as such, I have the right to do whatever I want with it as long as I keep it within what I consider to be its basic theme and contradict no well-known existing information.

In my eyes, I'm not going to "butcher" Valth, but I know someone who will probably think that's what I'm doing unless he gives me information to prevent it from happening.

Keep watching this spot--more information will be coming. Also, I'll reveal the tentative title for this RP, which is almost a joke more than anything else, at a later date. :D <p>

OK, everyone, here's what's up with the whole issue of getting GURPS stuff together.

Everyone is going to want to have a copy of GURPS Lite, which is basically a very simple summary of how the rules for the game work. What GURPS Lite lacks is an extensive list of skills, advantages, and disadvantages, meaning that characters will be less varied if everyone just creates from the Lite rules.

I intend to avoid that problem.

I'm ordering some books myself, because I've always wanted to own them, but the primary resource we're going to want to have for character creation purposes is a program I found called GURU, which effectively replaces the GURPS Character Assistant since SJ Games decided they wanted to buy it. Download the main program and the full descriptive text for the skills, advantages, and disadvantages. Install GURU and hit File > Import, then select "Catalogues" and select the ECT file you download from that link. Make sure to tell it to overwrite all old versions of entries or you're end up either with unupdated entries or two of every entry, one with descriptive text and one without. The program is moderately user-friendly but will likely make no sense without some decryption regarding the rules. Basically, the program is going to be used as a database of the shit that isn't in the Lite rules, and character creation is something that you can do with me at any time.

If you want to print a paper copy, fill it in, and scan it back in, I can provide images of GURPS official fill-in-the-blanks character sheets.

If anyone has any questions, IM me or post them, and I'll get to it as soon as I can.

Oh, and before I forget, we're tentatively using 150-point characters. I am going to heavily suggest, but not require, that all characters take two or three levels in the "Hard to Kill" advantage so that your survivability goes up drastically.

Edit 2: The database contains, obviously, a large number of ads/disads/skills that are not appropriate for Gaeran characters. If you're not sure, ask. And any option on the "World of Darkness" list is right out, because those are specialized for Mage/Vampire/Werewolf/Goth characters, and we're not playing that setting. <p>

All of the chats to date have been saved.

The weekly session dates for this will either be Friday or Saturday evenings. Probably Saturdays, depending on whether or not Shini can get Saturday nights off consistently. If I have to rearrange the weekly D&D sessions I do tabletop with my college friends (which is easier to shove to Saturday if need-be because their schedules are generally more flexible) in order to allow us to have Friday sessions instead, I will.

SO. Whether we do Friday or Saturday revolves largely around Shini's schedule. If he can get neither off consistently, we'll have to work something else out or I'll have to replace him (which I don't want to do at all).

Sometime this week I want to do a GURPS character creation and informational session for everyone involved. What's a good time for that?

And I naturally am still waiting on Nama to provide me with more info about Valth, but he has exams this week, so I'm obviously going to make some allowances for that, since I know how exams can fuck people over schedule-wise. Anyway, Nama, if you're reading this, it's just a gentle reminder. *wink*

...crap. Saturday is bad for me, as I just started RPing in a local weekly D&D game on Saturday nights.

Friday is good for me, if it can be pulled off. <p>

Saturdays would be a midnight-to-1pm showup time for me. Friday, I think, is one of my early days, and I can be around near to 10:30pm EDT. <p><span style="font-size:xx-small;">"It's in the air, in the headlines in the newspapers, in the blurry images on television. Cripes. I think I wound up with the RP group with the most whacked out and incomprehensible schedules ever. Let's hope we can somehow reconcile this and make things work properly. It really looks like Fridays will probably be okay, but man.

Anyway. I really need to see some sort of character creation progress as soon as possible. If you want me to tutorial you through it, IM me and I will. If you all want to arrange one universal time for character creation assistance and to learn game flow/the basic rules, we can do that, but only if I can get enough people to commit to one time. <p>

I have a character sheet prepped and primed except for an equipment list, for which I would prefer a guide and/or advisor unit beep destroy. I would link what I have right now, except geoshitties is being, well....shitty about the whole thing, and photobucket hates nonphotos, the racist.

Edit: I will, of course, need GM certification on some of the skills and ads/disads, because Anion is one fucked up dude. <p><span style="font-size:xx-small;">"It's in the air, in the headlines in the newspapers, in the blurry images on television. Updates:

I have Priam's character sheet, which is 95% finished.
As far as I know, Neb's character sheet is complete except for some psionics-related stuff, which I will be able to assist her with as soon as I get my book in the mail.
I've talked to Pervy about his and made suggestions, but I'm not sure where he is, exactly.
Shini is having trouble installing GURU. I'll see what I can do for him as soon as possible.

Nama has told me that he will have information for me by Friday, which is when I want to start this thing up, except that I'm not sure if we'll have everyone's character sheets together. If we do, we'll have session. If not, we won't, and we'll hopefully have things together by the next week! <p>

I don't know if Shini has talked to you about specifics 'n'shit, but GURU is still apparently not working. I recommend doing a HARDCORE MAN-TO-MAN GURPS CHARACTER SHEET FORGING SESSION personally between you two before the session in the coming day. <p><span style="font-size:xx-small;">"It's in the air, in the headlines in the newspapers, in the blurry images on television. Scheduling issues have forced me to rethink the RP situation slightly:

I've been talking to Shini, and he says he's going to work Friday mornings and get the evenings off for certain, which resolves conflict A.

Priam's schedule is whack beyond comprehension. Priam, I'm afraid that I think I'm going to have to drop you from the RP on account of the fact that otherwise we're not going to be able to get started until 10:30-11:00, and that's just not going to work for the vast majority of RPers.

Thus, I'm going to make the statement of time-related stuff now.

The RP sessions will be scheduled to take place at around 7 PM, Friday evenings. Chances are that they'll start a little later than that due to the universe not operating perfectly, but I want everyone to try to be here, in chat, by 7:30, barring circumstances.

If you cannot make that, I need you to please post here and tell me! Thank you in advance for your cooperation. <p>
