What is the RPGWW view on one single Gaera-approved character being on multiple RPs at the same time? The world of Gaera being timeline/character specific, will it cause any problems?

I ask because the only Gaera-approved character of mine (Michael Klaus) managed to get on board an RP, right exactly when Nick came back and revived his RP, "cloning" him into 2 RPs.... <p>

It's usually very frowned up.

If they are in different points in the timeline, it can be wrangled out, but if contradictions arise, you may have to take the short end to sort them out. <p>-------------------------------------

Well, in this case: Shadow Walkers started a while ago, and has a specific date.

In 'Castles,' did you make it seem like Klaus abandoned Shadow Walkers in the middle? If you failed to mention it, history can assume the second part of the adventure has yet to be recorded.

Well, speaking from experience, you'll probably be alright provided you have a good idea of when each RP is taking place in timeline terms. Obviously being in two places at once is impossible, but it is possible to simultaneously resolve events that occurred several months apart. Not that I really reccommend it. <p>KnightsofSquare: DarkLordKelne is a tomboy bunnygirl, jealous of the business successes of her 37 older brothers, she is pursuing her own business degree in hopes of someday initiating a hostile takeover against her brothers' corporations.</p>

I think it all depends on what Gaera date the RP starts at.

For example, in wkz's situation, Nick Shogun's RP went on hold, right? But the actual RP itself probably only takes place over a few weeks or less, depending on the adventure.

Now you skip to however much game time it is from then, and a few MONTHS after the initial beginning of Nick's RP, and the dates are quite far apart. There shouldn't be any chronological problems with it.

The other other problem I can see is character development. For example, if your character gets any extra items, or if there are major changes made to his or her character in one RP, while one other one has already started, then yeah, that can cause some definite problems.

But I don't think dates are that big of a problem as long as you keep the starting dates far apart. Most RPs only take place over a few weeks of in-game time. And we know that Gaera time moves much faster than RL time. . .so as long as you don't join two RPs within a month of each other, you should be fine in that respect. <p>---------------

I take full responsiblity, though I'm not the FIRST person to put an RP on hold. Drawing is tough! Anyway, in the 'What's Happening in Gaera' topic, I wrote this about four months ago or something:

UPDATE: In the month of Gaerara, Dammasus of the second week, 1314, several bounty hunters and adventurers arrived at the mansion of former Baron general Harris Maelstrom, applying for a bodyguard job. Among them were Terrance “Trigger” McCoy, Dovev Jermija, Sybil (last name unknown), Meryle Goldskin, Zakara the sprite, and Michael Klaus. Later that night, a group of mysterious characters attacked the mansion and engaged the bodyguards.

On the same subject, what's the policy for CIRPing characters that are currently in board RPs?

I think it's generally assumed that, unless the characters are at wherever the CIRP is, they're indisposed unless timeline-wise it works out. I could be wrong, though, since I'm a big pile of satan. <p>[---------------------------]

There is no official policy. No one has gotten together and said, "this is what we agree on." There isn't even an implicit agreement, because from what I can tell, what people believe on the matter (or practice, anyway) varies widely.

As for me:

Participating in multiple board RPs--I try not to anymore, but I have before, and it's worked out in the end. Up to, firstly, the GMs, then you.

Participating in chat RPs as well as a board RP--I have no problem with this. I don't see time as an issue, usually--board RPs can take months to well over a year for a handful of days of in-character time. Thus, in about a week's time or so, the chat RPs are already well ahead of the happenings of most board RPs. Even considering longer board campaigns, chat RP time is damn flexible, and not really measured or tracked closely in most cases. Also, CIRP happenings and such are often similarly flexible and unlogged, to an extent. Staying out of GMed chat RPs is probably a good idea, however.

The only issue I consider is character development. As for that--I have not yet been unable to smooth anything of this sort over. Using my more established characters generally makes this easier than using new characters, who are (for me, at least) more apt to numerous and/or dramatic changes. <p>

Since Nev brought it up as a semi-statement, I'll include this, which as far as I know is still true. In general, unless the GM specifically says otherwise, an RP is considered to start in the same Gaeran date as the real-life date in which it started. Depending on events to occur afterwards, this can quickly get out of sync, especially with board RPs, but it's still a fairly good rule of thumb for event placement. And for those of you that don't know about it, information on Gaeran dates can be found here. Although I don't think it's ever been officially established if Ishus is the same as Sunday or Monday, as the day names are much less commonly used than the month names. <p>
