Dude...I have nothing else to do.....

........

Seriously eh?

It's the closest thing I've got to acting. Lex started rping the moment she lost her outlet for acting. So really, it's entertaining, a good excuse not to do homework, and a creative outlet.

And I won't deny it makes for good escape sometimes when you need it.

First, you become an RPer.
Then you get the power.
Then you get money.
Then you get the women.

Shhh!

Simple answer: It's fun.

Long answer: Later, maybe, when I'm not GMing.

It started with the thought: "Oh, that looks neat, I'll try that." And it was, so I kept doing it.

As to why it's neat? Well, it's carthartic, for one. Entertaining and fun, too, a good deal of the time. The whole acting thing Lex mentions--I think it holds appeal to me in that regard, as well. Only, for me, I don't think I could actually act in front of people in person, but I can with RPing.

There's the writing aspect, which is groovy. It does help me with that, a bit. The actual RPing part doesn't help my writing technique so much as help me understand characters and character types better. Also, it gets me writing, and gets my creativity going. It also encourages me to write stories, which does improve my writing ability, especially when people bother to give me feedback or critique. Pervy's good with that.

The community thing is also a large part of it for me--I like the people here. I RP here, not anywhere else. I've tried to RP elsewhere, but it doesn't last very long. The people here rock. =0 You people have made me stop sucking at RPing (to some degree--I'm not as bad as I was, anyway), taught me all sorts of tidbits about psychology and history and pineapples, writing and art, and all sorts of whatnot. Some of it in RPing, some of it in OOC, some of it in spam and throughout the board and without. RPGWW is like that.

I don't like RPing; I despise it. It is the bane of my existance and the cause of all my suffering.

Unfortunately, a pact with the devil AND a gypsy curse both compel me to participate in arpies. For every day my roles go unplayed a tiny demon gnaws another dent in the back of my skull, worming it's way into the crumbling ruins of my sanity. It won't be much longer till the demon consumes my brain in it's entirety, and wears my skin like a puppet to walk the earth unseen by mortal eyes.

The demon has to do this remotely, since it isn't actualy wearing my skin just yet; it's current corporeal form is that of a small ceramic lawn gnome on my windowsill. It has a motion sensor, so whenever someone walks past it plays the whistle song from Snow-White and the Seven Dwarves. Whenever I throw it in the trash, I wake up in a subway tunnel the next day, cradling it in my arms with no memory of what I did the previous night.

...or maybe I just can't explain why I like to RP, and doubt I'll ever be able to. Can you tell me why you like your favorite food or color?
---
My head moves around inside the bag, it's not like I'm drinking through my actual eye socket.

I just love writing, and have a wild imagination, (or so people tell me), and GMing gives me the chance to bring these colorful worlds I've conjured up to other people.

Likewise, RPing allows me to join in these fantastic worlds other people have created, and I just can't get enough of that unreality. I'm addicted to it! It's just too awesome.
---------------

Also:

I live in a make believe world where swords are still good for something and you can hack up monsters and beasts without people getting on your case about it, or even fined.

Plus, you know, community, imagination...

... but mostly because I live in my own little world of make believe and some people are willing to share.

Shhh!

1: Just sort of being the character, and doing your own thing just for the sake of it feels good.

2: As a storyteller, I find going through things with characters on a case by case basis very rewarding, and finding out new things about them as you go along is very cool. Figuring out where they come from, how they do things, etc. Very cool.

3: You get to break things. And people (mostly NPCs). :D
------

I do not go medieval on peoples asses. I go Renaissance. There's an important difference. Medieval is just beating someone with a mace, but Renaissance is artful, sophisticated. Smooth, yet firm, powerful, yet distinct. Everyone knows when someone's gone Medieval on their ass, but they don't know Renaissance until its too late. -Wiseass Dave

I like to RP because I have an immense amount of self-loathing. Thus, I like to do anything that allows me to escape my current entirely tolerable but (to me) wholly unacceptable existence. Evidence as to such is that each of my personae or "characters" outside of myself seem to have in abundance some aspect I lack or feel insufficient in. The universes I tend to inhabit tend to be "fair" or "just," where happy endings are constant, good deeds are consistantly rewarded and bad deeds are consistantly punished due to the godlike knowledge of the arbiters. Yes, I RP because I hate reality.
Or that's what the people in the white coats tell me.
[---------------------------]
