Potential RP- Who knows?

Unread postby The Great Nevareh » Wed Oct 13, 2004 11:16 pm

I had an idea for a Semi-Suikoden-inspired RP which would involve all of the things that I liked about Suikoden plots, though suitably augmented so that the form works in this style. I would like to create an RP where there is a land in turmoil as people suffer for one reason or another that involves not only fighting and idealism, but politicking, intrigue, diplomacy, planning, and everything else that goes into the maintenance of a movement.
Everyone would have to be on the same side, and a lot of foreknowledge would have to go into it (Some people might find themselves designing their own ethnic groups), plus it would, of course, have to be non-Gaera. I don't have any rules drawn up yet since it just came to me, but there are two directions from which this would have to go.

The first would be from the direction of a country trying to prevent itself from falling into decay as a rebellion rages within itself/It is invaded by another country that is nearby.

The other would be a rebellion, though not necessarily violent, against the current sovereign nation that has a government that is essentially weak and unable to protect or provide for its people. There might be endless reasons why the government is deemed unacceptable, most of which I would come up with later upon formation of this RP.

The players would be people who are participating in either movement, not leading it, or at least not at first.

I'd just like to know which people would prefer- Would they like to fight FOR the establishment, which already works and yet is being threatened, or would they like to fight AGAINST the establishment which has already become ineffectual and needs to either be overhauled or overthrown. Vote, people, VOTE!

Country fighting for its survival as it is devoured from without/within.

Rebellion fighting for change as it attempts to secede from/overthrow/sufficiently modify current regime.

I don't care, I won't participate. This could be really fun, I am willing to participate. My only request is that each player gets to pick their own personal Rune, or something like that.
---------------

I think it would be fun to have PCs on both sides, kind of like some kind of twisted game of Risk.
-----

It would, but there would be immense problems with only me GMing it. IMMENSE problems. As I'm discovering in my current (and rapidly failing) RP, which is good though severely fragmented.

Also- It would be freestyle with my own brand of rules superimposed upon it, but instead of my "proficiencies" idea, I'd put out a bunch of classes and people would pick two or three in which their character falls into. Classes would be like:

Hero
Whenever there is an extremely dire need, there are heroes who are trying to work the problem to its resolution. The Hero is a person who is not only able and capable, but downright good at pretty much everything. They can fight one on one, deliver speeches, wheel-deal in backrooms, lead armies, and design sarcastic-yet-so-truthful wall posters with equal effectiveness. Often, they have many qualities that people like, are charismatic, have high ideals, and are highly dependable in every situation.
Advantages:
Heroes can do pretty much everything with little or no training in the matter. However, they tend to devote their energies to a certain set of skills and abilities and excel at those while ignoring other abilities that are handled by other people. They make exceptional leaders both on the battlefield and off.
Heroes have an aura of ability and seem godlike to many of those who follow them. They have an easier time winning more followers and a harder time losing their followers, as they tend to be very easily likeable and usually have the best interests of their followers at heart, though this is not always true.
Disadvantages:
Heroes can't get along with one another. No matter how hard they try, miniscule differences can cause massive schisms between heroes unless those two heroes are exact copies of one another both physically, psychologically, and morally, and are able to work together with machinelike efficiency.
Heroes get famous really quickly and really easily. They are also highly targetable by enemies since they're so visible. Even though they're exceptional at everything, hiding is very hard for someone who everyone knows.
Heroes get no time off. They are CONSTANTLY under demand to do things and they ALWAYS have to do the job, or things fall apart. Heroes can't set up anything to be autonomous since it always ends up relying on them to work. Heroes are under enormous strain all of the time.
Heroes almost always end up being leaders, even if they don't want to. People tend to defer to heroes.
Heroes are usually not allowed to be human. They can't have faults without being massively criticized by everyone around them. Everyone feels strongly about a hero, be it like or dislike, and these feelings are almost instant.
Heroes often have difficulty living up to their names, since they are often cast in lights that gives them not exceptional or extraordinary ability, but super-human abilities. People are often disappointed at first when they actually meet a hero, since the hero probably isn't as big/strong/handsome/witty/well-dressed/fireproof as people are led to believe.
Examples of Hero characters:
Tir McDohl, Riou Genkaku, Jowy Atriedes, Luke Skywalker, George Washington, Napoleon Bonaparte, Joan of Arc.
[---------------------------]

Co-GM(s) Wanted!

Unread postby The Great Nevareh » Sat Oct 16, 2004 10:30 pm

Now that I have a vague idea as to what people want, I'll probably need a co-GM or two- Preferredly people who I don't have a long history of arguing with. After I have one or two people, I'll confer with them to solidify some things.
[---------------------------]

Doesn't that narrow it down to 1 or 2?
<Chat> <Matto says, "What's up?"

Oh snap!

Actually, though, Nevareh, I would love to be a character in this RP, provided you find some good Co-GMs.
---------------

Banj has hit the problem right on the nose, except he vastly exaggerates the number of people I don't have a long history of arguing with.
[---------------------------]

I volunteer to be either a Co-GM, or an RPer.

Suikoden rocks.

I want the Shield Rune. Or a Fury Rune!

Or Cheese Rune. It is the 28th True Rune, not spoken of because it's too awesome for the other 27.

... Yyyyyyyeah.

Erm, it's Suikoden-Derived in the sense of the plot-type. It ISN'T Suikoden, since I'm not THAT cocky.
That and I don't really need Co-GMs unless there are people on multiple sides. Anyway, this thread has served its purpose.
[---------------------------]
