Heresy! (An RP set in the Warhammer 40k universe)

Unread postby Jak Snide » Mon Oct 04, 2004 2:15 pm

For ten thousand years the Emperor has reigned over the Imperium of Man. For ten thousand years his armies have conquered worlds and battled across the vastness of space in the defence of his empire. And for ten thousand years the forces of the Emperor’s Inquisition have fought a secret war to defend humanity from its worst enemies – the alien, the heretic and daemon.

This is a war fought as much with hearts and minds as with guns and blades. It is a war that must be fought without mercy, without end. It must be fought in the dark, forgotten places of the galaxy, where the light of the Emperor is but a dim flicker and the shadows of the forces that oppose him gather and grow strong. If the fight is lost, heresy and possession will run out of control and the Emperor, mankind’s saviour and protector, will be doomed. - The Inquisitor rulebook

This RP is one set in the 41st millennium, when mankind has spread out across the galaxy and is ruled over by an tyrannical and xenophobic regime which demands obedience and worship of the one true god, the Emperor, with failure to do so resulting in charges of heresy and death, or worse. It's one where humanity is beset on all sides by alien threats, along with the ever present threat of the daemonic powers of Chaos.

Those already familiar with the setting should know what I'm on about. For those that don't, I've uploaded a pdf copy of the Inquisitor rulebook here. While I don't plan on using the actual rules the book does give a nice primer on the setting, albeit one that's 50 megs big. I can provide additional info if you catch me online or, failing that, pop me an e-mail.

The structure of the game will be similar to that detailed in the book: the PCs will be an Inquisitor and his/her followers, and they'll have to deal with a few of the many threats to the Imperium. I've already got two players; Pervy as an acolyte priest of the Emperor, and Kelne playing an eldar on the path of the outcast who's become indebted to the inquisitor. Since I'm planning on taking 5 players that leaves two more henchman spaces and the role of the inquisitor him/herself (although I know there's at least one person who's already looking to fill that roll).

I'll be using a modified version of windows, character sheet found here. Due to the nature of the characters already created PCs should be at least tolerant of alien races. Although there's no class system the pdf gives several different options, although space marines, daemonhosts and anything incapable of thinking for itself (arco-flagellants, for example) are off limits. I'd also prefer if people steer away from alien races, since there's already one in the form of Kelne's character. Lastly, characters shouldn't be excessively powerful. Bolt, plasma, melta and other rare weapons are off limit for anyone but the inquisitor, and even then they should be considered rare. As for stats, a human isn't going to have strength or toughness above d10 unless he's truly exceptional or wired up with bionics.

I'll be going up to university tomorrow and, while I'll be able to get on the net, I won't be able to get onto AIM for any meaningful amount of time. Since I'm planning to run this in chat the RP will start in around 2 weeks or so. Please post what times/days are best for you along with your character sheets.

Actually I would be interested in this, never really got a chance to play Inquisitor, wonder if I still have the book around here somewhere. Either way yes, I'd be interested in this, unfortunatly I couldn't say when I'm available as my work schedule changes weekly. <p><div style="text-align:center">

I am in on this. I have a few character ideas tossing around in my head, I just need to finish the PDF and set everything down. <p>

For sure I'll be in this. Although after looking at your post, the idea of an ideallistic naive Tau warrior tagging along is now ashes.....

Maybe I'll take a scout (space marine in training), or one of the Imperium soldiers. Lemme' have a look at the pdf/character sheets first.... <p>

Hmmm... A deviantart account, and nothing inside :(</p>Edited by: wkz at: 10/4/04 10:03 pm

Space marine scouts are right out as well, I'm afraid. While they aren't as ungodly tough as a fully fledged battle brother it's just as hard to explain why a chapter would grant an inquisitor one of their own for an indefinite period of time.

If you really wanted to go for a heavy combat character you could always choose one of the Sisters of Battle. If the inquisitor Neb's working on ends up being Ordo Hereticus then it'd be easy to explain the presence of one, since they're closely tied to said Ordo. Of course, I'd have to think up a means to get rid of the standard issue power armour. An elite trooper with a boltgun would be a force to reckon with as it is.

Alright then.

* Begins design of a Imperium Guard Footsoldier character. You know, one of those poor saps that normally fights in large numbers alongside the Leeman Russe

....
*and promptly hits another roadblock.

Wouldn't any runaway from any of the Imperium's troops/legions/armies be treated with scorn? Especially from the viewpoint of Inquisitors? <p>

Exceptional individuals can be recruited. But runaways would most often fare very, very badly.

Edit: Also, times, please.

Hmmm on that similar note I'm thinking of a ex-Penal Legion Imperial Guard type or something to that effect. The hard as nails type that survived dozens of the toughest shittiest and worst missions they could put him in. Armed with his trusty lasgun (aka flashlight). Yeah....and stuff....

Anytime after 11 my time, and every first and second weekend of the month and an intermittent day between those weekends, and stuff. <p><div style="text-align:center">

PM, you think I could wake up early enough to be finished at 11 am? I can barely wake up at 11 AM.

Well, times are a bit fluid at the moment. Work schedules tend to change from week to week. <p>KnightsofSquare: DarkLordKelne is a tomboy bunnygirl, jealous of the business successes of her 37 older brothers, she is pursuing her own business degree in hopes of someday initiating a hostile takeover against her brothers' corporations.</p>

Times for me should be around the weekends, due to the wonderful clashing of schedules caused by International Timelines.

For me, (Using your clock:EST) Friday nights, Saturday mornings & nights and Sunday mornings are most preferable, and any weekday morning.

(Still trying to design a character...) <p>

11pm EST = 4am for me, for such are the wonders of GMT. I'd like to get sessions started between 5pm or 7pm EST.

Also: Kelne, could you e-mail me your character when you've finished the sheet?
