Nevareh looked around herself, surveying the town as she walked through its streets and took mental notes about the avenues and byways. The city of Baron- Genial, enjoyable, beaurocratic, and teeming with the wealthy. Which, of course, is why Nevareh was there. The "teeming with the wealthy" part, that is.


Many people have differing opinions of what it is that Nevareh does. Now, most tend to dislike that she does it, but that's mostly out of self-interest. There are plenty of laws against what she does, though you can never tell at the time. You see, Nevareh is what we call a confidence artist. She convinces people to put their money into what would normally be construed as a windfall, good luck, a mildly chancy scheme, or any other number of low-risk, high-gain investments. On a minor note, the things these people are investing in tend not to exist, though this is only a minor detriment to the legality of Nevareh's practice.
Yes, Nevareh works with scams, cons, and other no-goodery. Though she has never done anything truly large scale, or truly on her own... until now.


This is my pitch for a freestyle Gaera RP that takes place 5 years BEFORE Gaera main. Anyone who has a character here that wasn't well-established five years ago is welcome to join, PS characters preferred (even though this is a freestyle RP) who, five years previous to Gaera's current point on the timeline, would have a reason to be in Baron. You can be in it from any side you like- For the law, against the law, just visiting, an investor looking for new investments, maybe a shady character looking for more shady work, who knows?

Due to the nature of this RP, however, I think I might need to dedicate multiple threads to the execution of this RP- Since not everyone would be in the same place at once, and some characters might not even see eachother until the entire process is over, and since multiple events might be happening at once, et cetera.
Also, due to the unorthodox nature of this RP, I have a very, very low chance of awarding experience to the participants.

Carim Schwartzsturm. He doesn't have a PS sheet, I'm afraid. He's a Crown Investigator, which is essentially a group of crimefighters that ranks above Baron's standard guard, and specialises in more unusual cases. They're called in whenever the regular guard are stumped.

Okay, this is freestyle. So... anything goes, really. I just have two things that I want to put forward:

1) Each character has some proficiencies and deficiencies. Please tell me what they are.

2) Everyone gets 1 (yes, one. As in, no more than one, no less than one) TWIST OF FATE!!!!!!!!!!!!111!!!!

A twist of fate is essentially one Deus Ex Machina that you can call whenever you like. For whatever reason. But you only get one. You can use it to do a variety of things. But, you don't get to pick its effects, you just use it to suddenly improve your situation. It can take the form of you
Suddenly coming across a pile of money
Getting those pesky guards to forget you for no reason you have planned beforehand
Selling a refrigerator to an Eskimo
Having the Queen of Doma fly to your rescue with a whole contingent of Doman Guard
Suddenly remembering that you have a whole legion of pokémon attached to your belt
or any other number of implausible but still vaguely possible things.

This is something you may find occuring rather often in my Freestyle games, since I don't really like killing off PCs or throwing them in jail with no plausible means of escape.
One rule about the Twist of Fate: No using them against eachother. They're like Weapons of Mass Destruction when used that way, and usually the sum total of benefit anyone reaps is zero.

That twist of fate thing sounds pretty rad and possibly amusing! However, doesn't this take place 5 years previous? So Nezetta would, like, be a grand total of twelve years old, and a continent away from her home?

Anyhow.

Proficiencies:
Being totally ultra hot, if you happen to like succubi covered in tattoos.
Interesting magical skills which allow her to drain life and magic and stuff, and sometimes transfer it to her allies if she wants.
Smooth talkin'.
Observant, she tends to notice the little things.

Deficiencies:
Not particularly cut out for manual labor.
Not that great at coming up with good plans, on the fly or otherwise.
Tends to get herself in heaps of trouble without guidance.
While she can do stuff with magic, in direct combat she's pretty much boned.
Mae can drink alcohol like it was water.

Other:
She likes to be the center of attention. This is good when she's doing the job of being a distraction (which she's quite good at), but bad pretty much the rest of the time.
She lacks formal training in just about everything. This means that while all of her knowledge on any given subject is practical/street/whatever know-how, those with actual "schooling" can think of things she hasn't.

As for those, Winfred has a sheet in the closet. However, since this is a version of him a few years prior:

Proficiencies:
Illusion - He's still an apprentice, but shows a considerable knack for the art. He can manipulate both light and sound, but only one at a time. He can also combine this and telepathy to create tactile illusions, and specializes in doing so.
Psionics - Some basic telepathy, surface mind-reading, and the implanting of vague impressions in the mind of others.
Quick - Quick on his feet: good for darting through crowds, climbing, etc.
Feminine - Some might not consider this an advantage, but with the right clothing and the proper accessories, he can look like a woman with ease.
Deceptive - What can I say? Fairly good at trickstering.
Stealthy - Okay at sneaking around, but not one of his strongest suits.
Thievery - Best at convincing people to give him money. Next comes stealing wallets, pouches, purses, etc.
Knowledgeable - Knows a fair bit in his own right.
Ventriloquism - Can throw his voice with relative skill.

Deficiencies:
Leadership - Not good when put in charge of people, as it's not a skill he's developed yet. That's not to say he's adverse to telling people what to do.
Cowardly - Not much to say here.
Weak - Little physical strength.
Unathletic - While he can run quickly, he can't do so for very long.
Lockpicking - Knows how to do it, but hasn't any practice.
Curious - Tends to poke his nose too far into things.
Pathological Liar - Yes, he's good at tricking people. But sometimes, he just doesn't know when to quit. Which may make people suspicious of him.
Occasional Klepto - He'll steal for the heck of it, or for the challenge. And I don't need to tell you that's a detriment to being a good (or long-lived) thief.
Stranger in a Strange Land - He's from Doma, and the downsides to this are twofold. First, he may offend people with his ignorance of local custom. Second, he's separated from the connections he would normally enjoy.

Also, I have to wonder how much BS would be involved in using Nezetta, as this RP happens before she arrives on Igala. >_>

Let's see... pre-conversion Dae... hmmm...

Proficiencies:

Thievery - Before Dae switched over, he was quite the lil thief. Not the best, of course (his sister has a knack), but you wouldn't notice your gil was missing for three blocks when he works you over.
Negotiation - Daenj'r sometimes has to wheel and deal to get paid. And when you gotta get paid, you gotta get paid...
Staves - Dae's always used a staff. His training in the temple brought his skills along considerably, but the rudiments to using it were always there.
Knives - These little beauties are Dae's specialty. He can cut you up like a turkey, and he's not afraid to, either.
Strong - Dae's in pretty good shape, for a kid. He's not lifting any large buildings, but he can hold his own when it comes to such matters of strength.
Stealth - Blends into a crowd easily.
Confidence - Daenj'r doesn't usually have problems doubting himself.
Ladies' Man - Ooh... the ladies loooooove Daenj'r... if they're not too old... and even then...
Luck Out - A family trait. Basically a random event is caused by it. Ask AM for the wild mana chart.

Deficiencies:

Cockiness - The flipside of Dae's confidence. Sometimes he's a little too sure of himself...
Clumsiness - Sometimes Dae isn't always so graceful. He'll perform a perfect pull, and then fall flat on his face. He really has to use his talk to get out of a situation like that...
Family Issues - Don't mention Dae's family. And don't make yo' momma jokes. He will flip.
Illiteracy - Can't read a word.
Hot-Tempered - Daenj'r will throw down at the drop of a hat. He's mean like that.
None Too Bright - Let's just say, a detective, Dae ain't. Normal stuff you'd notice goes right over his head.
Criminal - Hey, let's face it, Dae's not the perfect, upstanding member of society you'd think him to be. So, he'll hide from guards, and not really care if he's breaking the law.
Addiction to Gambling - Throwin' dice in the alley, cards, heck, you name it, Dae's either done it or wants to try it...
Poor - Dae has no money. None. Not a cent. So that makes him a little desperate for the cash... <p>--------------------

For FD:

Nezetta would be 12, yes. But she was also raised as the former king Lezone's foster daughter.

And political visits are fun.

ALSO:

Strengths: Quite intelegent for her age- She was well educated.
Magic- Specificly Ice and healing.
Can be rather stubborn about getting her way.
Can pull strings well.
Dancing. She likes to get down with her bad self :D
Politics: Raised in a castle as the unofficially adopted child of the King and his servants, Nezetta is quite good at following them.

Weaknesses: Shy as hell- Nezetta was very quiet until Vani showed up- Meaning she's still got another year or so.
Self conciousness- It's not hard to make her feel bad about herself for various reasons.
Short and weak- Yeah, this kinda speaks for itself- 4'2 at 12, and most of her strength is in her legs- Dancing and all.

Carim's Proficiencies, in no particular order:

Puzzle solver: Carim can put two and two together and come out with a 6, if a 6 is what he NEEDS. He's an officer among the Crown Investigators for a reason, and that reason is that he can work things out, reason things through, and, if necessary, have a good stab at understanding the implausible.

Yes, Officer: Carim is a Crown Investigator officer, and as such outranks most of the standard guard, equals the rest, and outranks many other CIs, too. While this grants him no special favours of a law-avoiding kind, it does mean that he has access to places and information others - even other guards and investigators - likely don't.

Warrior: Carim has undergone the typical guard training with weapons, and is a passable fighter. His particular fighting talent is for duelling, and he therefore prefers weaponry of a lighter nature.

Cousin of a cousin: The extended Schwartzsturm family is quite a large clan, being one of the older Baronian families. Carim has some relatives in high and low places, and their names and addresses are just a letter to mother away. This rarely has use, but just sometimes a relation might know something connected to a case, and family loyalty usually ensures some level of cooperation.

Parlour trick: Though he hasn't the magical talents of many, Carim has enough innate ability for minor manipulation of fire. He requires a source of flame, and then can make it burn faster, brighter, slower, or dimmer.

A bit of a looker: While Carim isn't as bishy as many Schwartzsturms, he's still a good looking guy. Not enough to charm the pants off a woman, perhaps, but certainly good enough to make the task easier should he try.

Carim's Deficiencies, in no order either:

I work for the Crown: While, as noted above, being a Crown Investigator and thus part of Baron's military hierarchy has its benefits, it also comes with significant drawbacks. First, Carim's job entails taking orders and following them to the letter. If they're specific, he has little wiggle room if he wants to do his own thing. Secondly, if he sees a crime in progress he is obliged to do something about bringing the wrongdoer to justice, unless of course he's busy dealing with an even bigger crime. Additionally, the knowledge that Carim takes orders from the people in charge and is charged with upholding the law can make people nervous or even hostile, and Carim is fairly well known by the people of Baron City, by face if not by name.

My way is the right way: Sometimes Carim doesn't follow his orders to the letter as he should, believing that anything from a little manipulation to taking the entire case into his own hands to deal with in an entirely different manner is the best course of action. So far, he's always been proved right, and hasn't been disciplined severely. But luck doesn't hold out forever, and any day could be the one he makes a bad decision.

Lack of etiquette: Make no mistake, Carim DOES know how to act in certain situations, especially when it comes to moving in the circles of high society (Officers are often invited to the parties of the nobility, for one reason or another, including security, friendship, or attempted manipulation). Carim's problem is that while he knows how to act, he rarely does so. He can often be equally as rude to a noble as the person waiting the table, and he doesn't display any sign that he makes a distinction between the two. In fact, he does - and it's usually in the waiter's favour. In Carim's view his job is to uphold justice and serve the law, and the chances are that the rich are worse lawbreakers than the poor that serve them.
This doesn't stop him from acting appropriately around those he actually LIKES of course, or making a show of doing so when he thinks it serves a purpose.

Chorophobe: Unlike a certain 12 year old, Carim is never seen on a dance floor. He is as scared of making a fool of himself in this way as he is of dying, and has never even attempted to dance in private since he was 10 years old. Possibly he had some kind of traumatic experience at that attempt that resulted in this strange phobia, but if there was he's not telling.

I have no idea whatsoever how I'm supposed to enter this RP! Just so you know. And judging from the amount of posts in the thread, I think that other people may be looking at it the same way. :O

I mean, "a call went out" doesn't really give much of a clue to what we need to do. Do our characters start off walking down the street, or something? In a shop? In some secret thievery headquarters which the coppers will never find? In jail, waiting for someone to bust them out?

This is mostly because I feel like it. Honestly, I don't know why I'm doing it myself. I guess it's so people who ought to know DO know.

Nevareh Milligan
Strengths:
Stunningly beautiful: Nevareh is extremely attractive. And she knows it.
Master of Disguise: Nev can look like not Nev.
Fit in: Nevareh is at home in any crowd.
Gun nut(positive aspect): Nevareh knows guns. She likes them. And she can use them.
Liar: Nevareh can lie very, very well. And very, very easily.
Planner: Nev is a planner. She likes to plan things out.
Think on your Feet: Nevareh can think on her feet. Quick-witted is a good term.
Pick up and Go: Nevareh is very good at running away. She knows exactly what to bring, how to bring it, where to go, and what to hide.

Faults:
Life of the Party: Nevareh likes to be the center of attention. This isn't necessarily a good thing.
Boozemaster: Nevareh drinks. A lot. She wouldn't say she's an alcoholic, but others might. Covers the fact up quite well and is never without a bottle of hard liquor.
Gun nut(negative aspect): Nevareh likes guns. So, she'll ask questions about them, feel awe when she sees a nice one, ask to hold it, et cetera. She can be a little scary like this.
Easygoing: Nevareh is very hard to take seriously. She tends to meander and saunter rather than stride or walk.
Plan Swings: Nevareh, despite her ability to plan, likes to change things in the middle. She might go way off the course of her own plan, even if it's working perfectly, because she feels like it.
Compulsive liar: Because she's so good at lying, Nevareh is more likely to lie than tell the truth even if lying makes the situation worse.
Child of the Cities: Nevareh can't rough it. She likes living in the city, and she prefers to stay in comfortable, roofed areas as opposed to the great outdoors.

Other aspects:
Sense of Drama: Nevareh likes drama. She moves with it, lives with it, and feels it like a pulse.
Pulse of the City: Nevareh likes to think that she can feel a city's vibe.


Noah Balbanes
Strengths:
Title and Status: Noah inherited his mother's title of Knight in Service of the Crown. This brings status with it.
Rune Knight: Noah has the ability to fight and the power to use magic in tandem.
Enthusiastic: Noah does things with enthusiasm. Lots of it.
Logic and Reasoning: Noah can't make 2 2 into 6, but he CAN try to see how 2 2=4 RELATES to 6.
Book smart: He knows stuff.
Athletic: Noah can tax his body for long periods of time. He can sprint, he can run, he can do... well, lots of stuff.
Crown Investigator: Noah is the lowest rank in the CI, but he's still a Crown Investigator.
Noble: Noah knows how to noble.

Faults:
Woefully inexperienced: Noah has almost no real-life experience in his job. Everything he knows is from books and classes.
Naive: Noah has little common sense, despite his knowledge.
I Work for the Crown: Noah... well, works for the Crown. He does it with enthusiasm and dedication. This makes him a bit stiff.
Like a Sore Thumb: Noah can't fit in, even with his own social class. He wouldn't be able to hide if he were invisible.
Honorable: Noah is honorable. Therefore he prefers to be at a disadvantage than an unfair advantage.
Rank and Title: Noah, being rich, would be visible to kidnappers. He isn't well-known, but since he's a noble, it's not impossible to find out who he is.
Like a kid: Noah looks 15. He isn't proportioned like a man, he doesn't have a man's face, and he doesn't wear himself like a man.
Little initiative: Noah won't speak out unless prodded.

Other:
I'm not a Noble!: Noah doesn't parade the fact that he has a title, and in fact tries to avoid any situation where he might be called upon to use it.
Anti-sexual: Noah... doesn't seem to understand innuendo. Or grasp the basic concepts of love between a man and a woman. Chances are he knows, but then again, he probably just doesn't know.
No Bravado: Noah lacks male bravado. This is both good and bad.


Mariah Iranova Senontovich
Strengths:
Great in combat: Mariah can take a man apart in a great many ways without getting hurt, or even touched.
Bodyguard: Mariah can protect other people from harm as easily as she can protect herself.
Diplomatic Immunity: She has it so long as she is doing her job.
Military officer: Mariah is an officer in the military of medium rank.
No Frills (Positive): Mariah is not tempted by knick-knacks or other things that she deems an nonconstructive use of money.
Menacing (Positive): Mariah can menace people into doing what she wants by her mere physical stature and her bearing. The fact that she tends to openly wear armor might help this.
Never Unarmed (Positive): Mariah is, quite literally, never unarmed. Or at least she's never unarmed abroad.

Faults:
Foreigner: Mariah is a stranger in a strange land.
Royal Orders: Mariah has orders that she cannot, cannot ignore so long as she is in Baron.
No Frills (Negative): Mariah tends to look unadorned and plain. She doesn't appear to have a sense of style or flair.
Menacing(Negative): Mariah even menaces some people when she's NOT trying to. The fact that she has this aura of menace lowers her attractiveness.
I have to practice: Mariah is manic about keeping herself in shape in as many ways as possible. So, she spends a lot of her free time practicing, be it violence or Violin.
Never Unarmed(Negative): Mariah is never unarmed. This does not promote trust in strangers.
Advocate of Barian Ascendency: Mariah distrusts mainlanders on the mere principle that they are mainlanders. As such, she is not likely to be nice to anyone she meets from the mainland, but will be extremely, chillingly polite.

Other:
Huge Family: Mariah has a huge family.
Long Live King Lezone!: Mariah is loyal to Barius, and is therefore loyal to King Lezone.
