Ah, magic. A truly gifted mage can feel it running through his veins, as it pumps along, powered by sheer will and force. The mage can use this to his advantage, and with study and skill, can manipulate the world around him in unforeseen and fantastic ways, becoming a master of the arcane.
Leo, however, isn’t one of those. He’s just a guy who likes giant robots.
However, that isn’t to say that he hasn’t had his experience with such supernatural sorcery. Take his family, for example-the vast majority of his relations and his ancestors have been mages, descending from a long and proud family line by a rather strange offworlder woman in Doma City quite a few centuries ago. They’ve always felt very proud about their lineage-not just with the accomplishments of the original matriarch, but with those of the descendants that came after her. Combined with the ambitious inclinations of those on the other side of the family, there’s a rather stifling pressure to do well in magical studies to do everyone proud.
The problem is…Leo isn’t particularly good with magic, nor does he have any interest to become so. Sure, he knows a few cantrips and some other spells learnt to appease the family, but this just isn’t what he wants to do with his life.
Hence, the entry into MAC.
The giant robots piloted by the students have always fascinated him. They were so strong, so powerful, so…different. This is what he wanted to do. He didn’t just want to follow the role his family set for him, he wanted freedom. These Teks…these machines would help him with this.
However, while a wish for independence is the primary motivation for him to join, it isn’t the only one. While Leo may not share the same interest in the arcane arts as the rest of his family, he does share a keen interest in technology, particularly regarding outer space. He dreams of a future where these Teks, these glorious Teks, can help bring Gaera to the stars.
To make these dreams come true, though, one needs to be fairly educated in these matters. As a result of this and other factors, Leo has become one of the newest students at the school, learning all he can about Teks and other things that might help him with his goal (or, just plain seem interesting at the time.)
Other Things of Note: Another thing that rubbed off on him from his family is an interest in history. While he isn’t too keen on the family legends and stories (some of those are just a bit too far-fetched to be taken serious), other aspects of it fascinate him. He enjoys seeing how things from the past both mirror and connect to the present-it’s like a puzzle, with the pieces hanging in a web of information.
On a more whimsical note, he’s also a compulsive doodler, wont to sketch random designs and giant robots on the margins of his notes. However, he’s getting better at it, as he practices drawing random Tek designs as well as people (albeit rather cartoony people.) While he draws mostly for his own enjoyment and personal amusement, he’s currently considering harnessing this talent to attract girls. This plan is likely to fail.
His Tek: Leo pilots the Tek Asherat, who he considers to be his lady. While he takes very good care of his dame, his dame tends to be a bit…plain. Standard model, with nothing truly exciting about it.
Yet.
The thing is, Leo couldn’t afford to go all out for his Tek. As a result, he has to rely mostly on grants, scholarships, and the like to help him out. While he has plans in the works, it’s going to be a long road before he can have the mech of his dreams.
However…while it may not be the best Tek around, there are still some rather nice things about it. It’s a rather speedy model that’s capable of flight, and is also equipped with some standard guns. Leo is currently plotting on tweaking the speed and flight capabilities massively, and has plans for it to one day be able to withstand extremes in atmospheric conditions.
Some nicer weapons couldn’t hurt either, but hey, one step at a time.
