I want to GM an RP... o.o

Unread postby ChristianC » Sun Mar 21, 2004 9:40 am

Well, I was going to make a poll, but this is the only idea I've got so here goes...

Of Crow Nests and Bounty a-plenty

For almost twenty years men and woman around the world have gathered under the flag of Jolly Roger in search of the greatest treasure known. With the death of Golden Roger, the well-renowned Pirate King, people have been searching for his lost treasure, fighting both the marine, the only law worth it's name, and each other.

Set in a world almost completely covered by water, this RP will let you take part in that hunt for treasure and adventure. Anything goes in this world where a single swordsman can slice a warship in two and where every day may be your last. This is the World of One Piece, the Anime!!!

Okay, I know it sounds a bit corny, but hear me out...

In case you're not familiar with the series, and my guesses you aren't, I'm going to give a bit of a background information, those of you who've already seen it, you can skip if you want.

---

The Anime One-Piece is the story about a young man, Monkey D Ruffy, who's only goal in life is to find the legendary treasure One Piece and become the King of Pirates. With him is his faithful crew and against him... basically everyone. Ruffy has the flair to get into more trouble than anyone else, and his desire to find One Piece puts him against ALL other pirates, most of them deadlier than you can imagine.

The world is divided into four large oceans, East Blue, West Blue, North Blue and South Blue, with the Grand Line running at the equator and the Red Line crossing it from north to south. The Grand Line is haunted by the most fearsome pirates and monsters imaginable, and only the most brave, or dumb, will venture there without at least a fleet to back them.

The world is pretty much ruled by a single government with little to no control of over the criminality of the pirates. They leave that to the Marine, literally an army of lawmakers, with quite a few rotten apples in their rank (corruptness runs rampart everywhere), although they make up by having some of the fiercest and heart-strong men and women too.

Although gun-powder exists, and repeating guns are starting to spread, swordsmen are still a-plenty, and they're defiantly not to play with. Some speak of the Hawk-Eyed, a legendary fighter with the power to destroy a fleet of a hundred ships alone. Others shudder at the mention of Roronoa Zoro, a pirate-hunter-turned-pirate who employs a self-developed three-blade style and fights as if possessed by a demon.

And let's not forget the rumored Devil Fruits, said to be numbered in hundreds, these fabled fruits will grant the one who eats them with mysterious powers, but will never be able to swim, the ocean cursing them for their alliance with the dark powers of the fruit. While cert

It is surely a time of adventures.

---

Right, so you might say "Sounds cool, but it's a frikkin´ anime, and mostly slapstick too... you can't be serious", well, I am!

The setting of One Piece, although comical in nature, carries a heavy undertone of death. The life of a pirate may be exciting, but if you can't take care of yourself, it'll be the gallows for you. The marine aren't playing around, their goal is to ensure law and order, which means the punishment of criminality, i.e. your death. Other pirates aren't exactly planning to share One Piece with you, they'll figure your death'll mean less rivals in the search for it. Not to mention Bounty Hunters, and Monsters and people who just want to kill.

So yeah, this is going to be a serious RP, funny, but serious. We're going to play it Freestyle, because frankly I can't possible think there's a system to cover up the strange and amazing powers found in the series. The characters can be from any background and profession, from cook to dancer, but will most likely be on par with at least Ruffy's crew in strength. Therefore, I highly recommend you try to, if possible, get a few episodes at the link at the bottom of this message to check the series out.

Not that it'll matter much anyway, I'm going to try to stay away from the "Villain of the Week" theme of One Piece anyway, so don't expect much "random" fights.

The story takes place some years before the Anime, four or so but there's really not much difference from the anime, setting like. You can come from anywhere, although some possibilities are "Roguetown", a city located just a few days' sailing from the Grand Line and one of the biggest cities in the world, or from any of the millions of islands that dots the four oceans. You don't have to start as pirates or anything, but keep in mind that it'll probably be an inevitable fate, naturally pirate doesn't necessarily mean Evil, although it's a common point of view from most of the public.

Finally, if you have any questions, which I know you have, feel free to ask ahead. There's probably a lot of things I've forgotten in the summary and description, so it's only natural you'll be a bit confused.

I hope this at least catches your interest. o_o;;

To get the Anime:
Sorry, just realized how dumb it is to put up a link to this... Even though it hasn't officially reached the shores of the US and Europe, I don't want to put up a link. If you're interrested in downloading the series, try searching for it or send me a PM and I'll give you the link... Sorry. o_o;;

Well I happen to know One Piece has at least reached American shores by now... And personally I've been a fan of One Piece ever since Jak linked it way waaaaay back while I was still doing Sky Sailors. In fact I have a ton of episodes, read even more of the manga and own a few art books.

As for systems thing, I think Big Eyes Small Mouth system could of worked. Not that it matters of course but it could of techically. Of course getting people to make the characters would be a pain in the arse unless ya just allowed them to make there own moves and suchlike then revised them or whatnot...

Also what I know of the show its basically lots of over the top fighting with some strange flashback sequences invlovled. Oh and lots of posing and lots and lots of "I'm going to bash you Big" and the badguy showing how much worse of a badguy he was since the last badguy that came around. And people crying... there is normally lots of crying involved as well. In fact the entire thing is just WAY over the top. Good, silly stuff.

*coughs*

Anywho - Erm 9_9;; That's it. I'd think of joining if I had more time to which I could say for sure I'd post. As it is I don't so I can't. Still =D I like One Piece *coughs and backs outta the room before anyone stares*

Image

It's hard to find RPers these days... I've been reading One Piece in Shonen Jump and on the internet for the past three years, and love it. And I'd love to RP in Luffy's universe.

But the BOARD IS DEAD... I'll make a character if Christian's still going through with this.

Of course I'm going through with this. ^^

I wasn't worried at all, nope sir, I knew someone would notice this... *slowly puts down razor*

Right, so the game will be used with freestyle. I thought through what Cho said about BESM. It is possible, yes, but I think I'd rather GM this with freestyle.

So yeah, I hope you've at least got some minor grasp of what the series' about, so just try to think up a concept and put it down to papers. If you need me, I can be found on msn : soptunnan2k4@hotmail.com

don't ask. >_>

We're going to play with original characters for this, i.e. you make them up. All I request is that you fill this form www.greatdave.org/rpgww/r...estyle.txt as well as any extra information you can come up with. Just remember not to overpower your characters and to make them believable. ^^

Hehe I thought I had posted this earlier! Slap me if you want!

Name: Hal Moore
RPer: CrimsonIronkiller
Race: Human
Age: 19
Height: 8'8"
Weight: 378
Eye color: Blue
Hair color: Long soft brown
Weapon: Large Hammer made from Melted down Nails from the ships he has assisted in taking. Dimensions: 6'4" Wide at its head, 4'2" thick head from front to back, 12'6" in over all length of which 5'9" is the head of the hammer. The hammers steel haft can be taken off of the head to be used as a separate staff with spikes on both ends.
Physical Description: A huge man Hal wears a loose fitting pair of black pants that have a deep purple sash tied around the waist. He wears a massive rig upon his back to hold his hammer for him while he walks about. Hal moves about in this mostly when he is on ship, but in town he is most often seen in a black dress shirt with lace

{Insert a background here. PLEASE: check your grammar, spelling,
capitalization, line breaks, punctuation, etc} Hal grew up near the grand line hearing stories about daring pirates attacking other vessels and taking there cargo or even the ship as theres to keep! He loved these stories and liked to talk to the sailors and even the pirates that came to his village. Always dazzled by the tales they had to tell Hal would go to the tavern down by the shore and listen to them for hours on end. Being a large lad all of his life Hal helped out when ever something that needed a strong hand came up whether that be fixing a roof or holding the mast for a small boat in place for the local shipbuilder. Hal while at the tavern had many men show him a few fighting tricks for the drinks he would buy them and by the age of 16 was quiet the capable fighter. Believing himself ready and wanting fame and fortune Hal set off from his quint little village on the next ship that arrived as a sailor. He quickly found that his strength and size where more than most men he came in contact with. Soon after the vessel he was on was attacked having no weapon to help fight off the boarding pirates Hal riped a piece of the ship off and used to bat men about. He fought them on the deck until most of the surviving crew members had gotten below and he himself ran inside and blocked the door to the cabins. The pirate Capitan impressed with Hals strength and courage made a deal with him and the rest of the crew. If Hal would join his crew he would let this ship go and leave the rest of the crew unharmed. Thinking that this was better than them all fighting and maybe losing to many crew members to continue to the next island Hal agreed and joined the crew of the Pearl of the Seas. For two years Hal served with the Pearl of the Seas becoming friends with the Capitan and first mate Kim Brand and Liver Hasten. Hal was still friends with them when he left the Pearl of the Seas with a large sum of money to have his own ship built in Rouge city. After talking to the ship builder Hal decides that he should hire a crew before building a ship to take up his own pirate activities. Hal found that many people would not work with him because he was inexperienced as anything above a second mate. Angry he decided he would build his ship and then try and hire a crew after it was completed he was on his way out of his room he had rented when a man stopped him with a message from a ship that had just arrived. Finding that it was an old crew member Jack O'neill Hal was happy to meet him and asked how the rest of the crew was doing. Looking very sad Jack told Hal of the Pearl of the Seas had been captured by another pirate who was demanding a ransom of 100,000 berries. Thunder struck Hal hurriedly set out on the next ship with Jack in tow for the island that the Pearl of the Seas was being held with his money for his new ship. Upon arriving on the Island and paying the fee Hal found that Kim had escaped and Liver was the only one still in there hands. Hal payed the ransom for the ship and Set out with Liver at his side to Roguetown where he found Kim waiting for him in the very room he had rented on his rather short stay in the town. Extremely happy and surprised Hal handed the ship over to Kim and although he no longer had his own money to purchase a ship decided to stay on in the town. After almost a year of doing work about the town Hal feels that he would like to set out again on the high seas and is currently looking for a Capitan he likes to serve under.

Other notes: His feet are much tougher than normal and thus he never wears shoes. He is Honorable, Dependable and Stubborn.

Ah.... treasure.

Unread postby Nick Shogun » Tue Mar 30, 2004 2:09 pm

Yeah, you can expect One Piece fans to eat up an RP like this... so, I'll be GOLD ROGER'S NIECE!!! Or, uh, not.
---
Name: Leone
Race: sky people
Age: 28
Height: 5'11
Eye color: brown
Hair color: crisp, golden brown
---
Visual: Sky people have wings on their backs; so does Leone. He almost always wears goggles to protect him while he's working, since he is Skypiea's best (maybe its ONLY) engineer. Avoids shirts because they get in the way of his wings, and prefers shorts, since he has a high body temperature.

Personality: Leone is (in one word) precise. He likes to fix things, sometimes even if they aren't broken. He'll also do almost anything for the right price. He likes to swear and he likes to drink, but most of all he likes to fish.

Background: How he got involved in engineering is a story no one really knows, but about six years ago he came out of the sky and landed near an island town. Apparantly he got fed up with some of the authorities in Skypiea and decided to abandon the country. Since he was such a good mechanic, he started up his own shop in the town and became a respected member of society. Normal people are too stupid to think that his wings are anything more than "strap-ons." Or at least that's what he convinces them.
---
I don't know that much about sky people's customs, so tell me how this looks, Christian.

Name: Raziel
Rper: RyuKurai000
Race: Human
Age: 22
Height: 5'6"
Eye Color: Grey
Hair Color: Brown

Weapon: A pair of leather gloves with the fingers cut off (This was put in because before I had forgot O_o 4/11)

Visual: Wears a brown trenchcoat with metal studs on the shoulders. His hair is in a long ponytail that goes to about the center of his back, and he has two thick bangs that go down either side of his face. His shirt is a bright green and he wears black pants that go down to ankle length. He wears a simple belt. His shoes are fairly beat up but still seem to be able to function efficiently.

Personality: Raziel would most be at home by himself. He like freedom, and does whatever he wants. He is calm, and often acts as a mirror for someone else to see themselves. When he angers, It almost is as though he’s a whole different person then the calm, quiet, thoughtful person that his enemy saw a moment ago.

Backround: Raziel was born on an island not far from the Grand Line, called Moore. The island had a heavy influence on Martial Arts, and under his sensei he trained nearly every day to better understand himself and the world he lived in. Pirates would often stop by, but only for a few drinks. They knew that even a teenager from the island could best one of the average Pirates in a sword fight, hand-to-hand combat, even arm wrestling! His father told him that he had talked with Gold Roger himself once! Raziel was intrigued, and started to wonder more and more about the world outside his desolate island. He worked for a few of the more elderly villagers to scrounge up some money for some books. He asked the pirates if they had any books, and this caused an uproar of laughter. He then announced he would pay 20,000 berries for as many books as they could bring him. The pirates immediately stopped laughing when they heard about some nice, easy money. The books came about a month later, and when Raziel opened the first one, he was drawn in. He found many ways to balance his training with reading, and learning foreign languages.

He finally decided to try sailing after reading about it in so many stories. After he finally built a raft, he went out to sea alone for the first time. No one knew anything about this, and Raziel barely survived a storm that broke loose about an hour after he left shore. His sensei picked him up off of the beach, and told him that to leave the Island, he would have to beat him, or he would never survive the outside world. He Gave Raziel one week to prepare. Raziel trained for the first five days most intensely, not bothering to even read while he trained, and then slept for two days until the day of his fight arrived. He arrived in complete readiness to fight, but to his dismay, his sensei tested him on his knowledge of the world. He answered most of the questions correctly, and when the last question’s answer was out of his mouth, his sensei moved like lightning and attacked him. After nearly a half-hour of battle, he finally got his sensei into the best lock the school had to offer, The Dragon’s Claw. The next day, his sensei showed him what he had all along in his mysterious beach house he never used- a boat able to transport about two people. He revealed that he had come to this island at around 36, and had found it so enchanting that he never left. His final words before Raziel set off always stuck in his mind- “Although I’m sure you’ll find some things that may be new and different, there is no treasure that could possibly compare to this Island. I know you shall be back someday.”

Raziel knew in his heart that his Teacher was wrong. He had always hated that Island somewhere inside of himself.

That was five years ago.

Raziel has trained with every Martial Arts School he could find, broadening his skills to a point where his list of techniques could never be simply rattled off- even by him!

He isn't amazingly strong, but strong enough that Moore's reputation still stands with him. His most prominent skill is his sheer speed and grappling ability. He has only moderate experience with weapons and does not carry one because he thinks it would slow him down.

(Eep! this thing looks much longer than when I typed it up!)

SALSAlys

I can't believe I didn't post. >.< AND I AM A CHEF.

Unread postby SALSAlys » Thu Apr 01, 2004 8:33 pm

Name: Taki Aki
Age: 17
Height: 4'8"
Weight: "NEVER ASK A LADY HER WEIGHT!" (but labout 95 pounds)
Eyes: Bright green
Hair Color: Black

Weapon: A large metal ladle. And by large, I do mean LARGE. The scoop is an inch thick, while the handle is nearly three feet long. Though Taki uses it in the kitchen as well as combat, it doesn't appear to be too affected by either usage.

Physical Description: A tiny, dark-skinned lass who busies herself with the cookery of food on any ship she takes berth upon, and who refuses to allow any member of the crew not to finish his meal or his veggies. She seems delicate and frail when still, but due to her constant, hyperactive motion, she can become quite intimidating. Taki wears her long hair in high ponytails which bobble at the sides of her head, the ponytails twisting about ribbon-like as she moves. She wears long black pants over leather shoes, and a bright yellow and orange bikini top beneath a long, sleeveless white coat, which she often lets flutter open... though it DOES remain closed enough to keep her from being too much fanservice. She also wears an immense white chef's hat which adds a foot to her height.

Personality: Chatters almost constantly, quite cheerful and not at all intimidated by most things. No matter the size of her opponent, the man who does not eat his veggies is going to get a hearty THWACK from her ladle of doom. She's also physically affectionate, giving flying glomps in greetings to those she regards as her friends, though she encourages no romantic interest. Those who try have a tendency to just find more veggies on their plate.

Background: Her brother had served as a sailor on a pirate ship, something which she had never challenged nor questioned. However, she heard rumors one day that his death was not from an enemy flintlock or blade, but from scurvy. An adventurous lass already, she went into a period of mourning where she vowed that on any ship that she served, she would ensure that the crew got a healthy diet which included plenty of vegetables. Oh, and treasure? She likes shinies too, but is more concerned about veggies.

OK, I've been debating about doing this for a while, since I love One Piece and all... I've resisted doing it for various reasons, but I've finally given in, partially because I've noticed the story hasn't moved on too much, and paritally because I like the looks of the bunch RPing in this. I know ChrC might not want to take this character right now, but perhaps as a backup in case someone drops...?

Name: Barnac "Barnacle" Collaway
Age: 22
Height: 5'1"
Weight: #104
Eyes: It's really hard to tell, what with those extraordinarily thick glasses he wears, but they might be blue...
Hair Color: Red

Weapon(s): A brace (2) of pistols, and a longbarrelled rifle.

Physical Description: Short, scrawny, geeky, and nervous, Barnac is not the kind of person you would expect to see on a sailor's ship. At first glance, the only pratical use one might see for him is to use his rediculously thick glasses as a reflective signal to call for help. An overlarge sailor's vest hangs from his shoulders all the way to his knees, suggesting that it was once owned by a bigger person, and he is always to be seen in shorts and tee-shirt. The handles of twin pistols stick out of the cargo pockets on his shorts, and a rifle barrel can be seen protruding from the bottom of his vest, slung under his armpit like a sawed-off shotgun.

Personality: Barnac is aflicted with a unique psychosis. He is absolutely sure he is a total looser (not entirely innacurate.) Self depriciating, nervous, almost whiney, but willing to work hard and get a job done, even when everyone else is ready to quite. So what's the psychosis part?
Put a gun into Barnac's hands, and he becomes the most cocksure, showoffy bastard you'll ever meet. The two are the same person, but the feel of a pistol or rifle grip in his hands sends his Ego through the roof. No gun in hand, (and the 'in hand' part is extreemly important,) no confidence.

Background: Barnac was born the son of a wealthy banker, yadda yadda yadda, grew up, was taught to shoot, yadda yadda, liked his family and his father, yadda, ate a Devil's Fruit- and things got interesting.
The "Stick Stick" fruit is said to allow the user to cling to anything he touches, if he wants to stick to it- although Barnac didn't know this. In fact, he had never heard of the Devil's Fruits at the time his father came into possession of the fruit, which was given to him as collateral for a short term loan. By sheer accident, instead of being placed in the family safe by the butler, it got put on Barnac's plate for dinner. That day, Barnac became the world's first human post-it note... at the expense of being unable to swim.
Oh yes, and his father lost a loaned item worth more than the family fortune and bank's holdings put together. Needless to say, Barnac got into a good deal of trouble over this. He was thrown out onto the streets, his self confidence shattered, and wandered as a waif until he was kidnapped by a band of pirates. He eventually worked his way up to marksman, his unique psychosis suddenly revealing itself rather forcefully (perhaps because shooting well was the one thing of value he could do on that ship) and he became a full fledged crewmember. When half the ship's crew was lost to the Marines, and the vessel herself mostly destroyed, Barnac set out to look for a new source of work. After all, piracy is all he knows...

Josh, my friend, no need to worry. You're in, I love that character! I had originally thought not to let anyone have powers from a Devil Fruit, but you wrote it in so fine I don't have the heart, plus it's damn cool anyways!

Right, I'm back from my little trip, and thus back to RPing. There's still time for anyone to enter, but soon I'll be forced to start the game for real.

I'm assuming Sute Sute has something to do with sticking to stuff.... has such a fruit actually appeared in the story? I've only read the volumes Viz has released in North Am so far (1-3)

He he, as far as I know, it hasn't. It's both from the word Sutekka, which means Sticker (Gotta love Engrish) and Sutebashi, which means desperation. Further into the anime, these kind of meaningless word-plays comes into action, sometimes so farfetched it's almost silly, like the japanese word for cutting wing backwards and stuff. >_>

Name: Maria (surname to come)
Age: 63
Height: 4'4"
Eyes: Brown
Hair: White

Weapon: A canesword. Of course, whether or not she uses the sword depends...

Background: Maria was one who had retired after a rather long career on the sea. When she was young, she had always wanted to be on a pirate ship, being quite rebellious and attracted to life at sea. However, she just wasn't cut out for it. Clumsy, unable to fight, and not quite the sharpest knife in the drawer. Her crew only kept her as a mascot of sorts. However, later on in her life, she started to understand the ways of the sea, and got the hang of it, becoming quite a skilled sailor. Unfortunately, disaster struck. The ship she was in was sunk, and its name forgotten. Thus, Maria was forced to retire, in her mid-thirties, and failed to find a ship to sail on. One day, while she was in the square grumbling about how she lost her only chance, and how these pirates are all no better than she was, a shady man approached her, and offered her a Devil's Fruit for a rather... large sum of money. He claimed that it would help her restore her youth. Taking the chance, she paid him, and ate the fruit.. And, indeed, he was correct. She turned into what she was when she was still a young girl, in the beginning of her pirate years... Unfortunately, this only lasted a few hours, as she found out, and only worked a few hours each day. Not only that... But she seemed to be as clumsy as a young girl as she was when she REALLY was a young girl. Still, this put energy in her, and she decided, with much eye-brow raising from the rest of the old people, that she wanted to sail the high seas again! And teach those youngins a lesson or two.

Appearance: Old: A short, old, hunched over, wrinkled, pale-skinned woman, with a head of long, white hair, and wearing clothes that make her look like a pathetic excuse for someone trying to dress like a pirate, wearing the classic white shirt and beige pants, only of a few tens of sizes too big for her...

Young: 20-year old, rather tall (comparatively), and definetely having a bit of tan, with the shirt, pants and boots actually fitting her. Also, her hair had not yet gone white, thus is a rather nice blonde.

Personality: Old: Rather scornful, believes she is always right, and, how kind of her, is always there to teach them youngins a thing or two. And oh, don't you ever disrespect grandma. Ohhh, don't you ever disrespect grandma. However, she will not use the sword as long as she can handle it. If she can't, the opponent is indeed a worthy one. Unlike her young form, in this form, she actually DOES seem to be experienced and to know fully well what she's doing, both on the sail and sword.

Young: Cheery and energetic, especially when she forgets what she really is. She tries her best. But her best isn't too much, so she doesn't do much in the end. However, she is known to get well with everyone, and thus is far more likeable. Unlike her old form, she does not hesitate to draw her sword and fight using it. However, sword or not, she usually finds that it's far from enough.
