I'm fine with the metric system, if someone will teach it to me. If you have nothing better to do than make one up for us, KICK ASS. I will help in any way I can (unless it involves moving).

Oh gods no. Let's just use the metric system or something.

Metric, if anything. When expressing long distances, I tend to just say "so many hours," or "half a day," while shorter lengths I measure in heads, handspans, or realitive to someone's height, so I don't feel any concrete measurement system is really necessary.

Maybe have it called something else on Gaera, but keep it equivalent.

I think we should use what ever method we already use. If you use metric then use it, if you use us standard then us it. But it is a nifty idea for our characters speak there own one. Just clarify in descriptions.
Image

What use would it be to make them speak their own but not have the units actually different? It's not like we make up languages for them to speak or anything.

Er... FD... I don't quite get what you're trying to say there, but I'm assuming it's a response to my suggestion.

It would be exactly the same, in essence, as the equivalent language system we already have. I mean, what would the chances actually be that the Gaeran system would be called the metric system. Sure, we can call it that because we use real world languages for ease, but we still give those real world languages different names on Gaera, so why shouldn't the system of measurement merit a Gaeran name?

Ross-
So basically you're saying we have to come up with new names for feet, miles, pounds, etc. just to be different, even if the numerical values won't change? Honestly. We've already used almost every metric and non/metric measurement name already, why start changing them now? There's no point.

Not saying that, Phil. For the purpose of RPing, you can call them whatever the hell you like. I'm just saying that a Gaeran would NOT call it the metric system.

It was more a response to Geoc. Obviously they'd call it something different, but we wouldn't, so it really doesn't matter.
