So how does one go about joining an RP?

I visited a while ago but then got distracted by other things (probably shiny) and ended up not getting involved. But yet again I find myself at your door and I was curious as to how one would join an RP. I've looked about and it seemed many people have quite comprehensive character sheets that include every single on of their abilities and the modifiers on them. Do you actually use dice when you are RPing? Or is it just just elaboration in case you were to use them as characters in an RPG? Ayway it's all a bit bewildering and I'm just looking for a little advice.
-----------------

Most of the RPing you'll see is done freestyle, meaning you don't need much more than a set of abilities, appearance and backround for your character. Should you wish to get involved in Philsys action here's the link:

Once you've got a character all you need to do is join in on an RP. Most of the RPs are listed here in the OOC RP discussion forum so all you have to do is find one that is accepting characters and submit yourself to the GM. Some RPs are specifically for Philsys characters so if you want in you'll have to have a Philsys character.

Some RPs are also done over AIM and that is (at least as far as I've seen) where the dice rolling comes in. We just let the server roll 'em for us making it fair and impartial.

This may be a silly question, but are mathematical stats necessary to get involved in role playing here?
________________________________________

Short answer: no.

Long answer: No. There are plenty of freestyle RPs. HOWEVER, there are also plenty of system RPs (philsys and Windows being the most popular systems), so if you want to join these RPs, then you'll need stats. Windows is EXTREMELY easy to learn. Philsys takes a little bit. Both are worth it, in my own opinion, but I wouldn't tackle them right away.

-=- "Don't you know the only excuse for that is being drunk!?" -- Hakaril (Archmage144)
