Should we get rolling on them now? Yes, no?

Anyways, if yes, I'll have a list of categories ready when I get home for you all. <p>--------------------

Hmn...while the Arpie Awards aren't a bad idea, I'd rather wait a few months before starting on them. I'd like to see how a few things pan out, first.

And on a completely different topic.... and from what I heard this isn't a typo but how American's phrase this (so its not a go a Lex but meerly the people who changed this thing and made it a lingo).

Quote:
Could really care less.

You COULD care less? What? You don't really mind it? It's not too bad? I could care less but I'm still ignoring it?

You couldn't care less. Couldn't. It makes far more sence when it's said like that. I couldn't care less about it at this moment in time even if I tried my hardest, it's not even worth considering.

*coughs*

Anyway. Sorry to Lex but she was the first one I noticed using this when I was in the mood to point it out. You get a free tub of Ice Cream for being the victim. *gives it out*

But Really... How did "could care less" come about? Was it just cause the guys who said it were to lazy to say "n't" (Hell that's how half the lingo over here came about).

Right, I'm done. <p><div style="text-align:center">Image </div>

I like to say:

I could care less.

But I'd have to try pretty damn hard. <p>---

In the admittedly brief research I've just done on it, the best theory I've found is that there was an intermediate form in which the "not" part of it was seperated from the phrase, as in the following examples.

... none of these writers could care less about the "tradition of the novel" Alfred Kazin, Saturday Rev., 3 July 1971

But in Bloomingdale's nobody could care less, while here, everyone cares Donald S. Warner, Punch, 12 Mar. 1975

Another theory is the phrase was changed to indicate irony by someone and caught on as a general saying. However, there is no solid proof for either.

Here's my source for those two quotes, by the way. http://www.errantyears.com/1998/may98/000487.html

Thank you Idran, I still find it a rather stup- .. American.. way of saying a perfectly good phrase but at least someone has gone to the effort of finding out why.

Not that it changes much but at least there was some reason behind it.

Could care less. *shakes head* Ay ay ay.

I blame it entirely on the laziness of American linguistic tendencies. We have some real idiots over here. <p><span style="font-size:xx-small;">"It's in the air, in the headlines in the newspapers, in the blurry images on television. It is a secret you have yet to grasp, although the first syllable has been spoken in a dream you cannot quite recall." --Unknown Armies</span></p>

What's that? You care about it so much that there's no perceivable way you could feel anything less than the devotion you currently feel for it?

Bajooie... that.. makes no sence. o.o

We have a fair amount of odd or annoying stuff over here. Like if I hear INIT said instead of isn't it I think I'll scream ( though "is not it" isn't very good either). Or even "N tha"

I really hate those two, its just not right INIT, N tha. <p><div style="text-align:center">Image </div>

It does.

If you 'cannot care any less'

It means you are incapable of caring less than you do right now.

This can mean either that you care about it so much you can't possibly care less about it then you do right now

OR

That you are at the total minimum of caring.

Oh and 'Banjooie' and 'Sense' :D

Which is why I don't use that thing :D

Anyone mind if I put this train back on the tracks? *shove*

Anyways, at the rate the conversation's going, I'm at least tempted to put the awards on hold, if not scrap them entirely. Anyone care to tell me different? <p>--------------------

You should probably put them on hold since no one seems to be RPing anymore for some reason or another. <p>

Alright, then. I'll wait a month or two to see how things pan out, then if we have a go, get on with it. Thanks for you input. <p>--------------------

I seriously think the constant Charles abuse in his threads lately is an intriguing trend, and I wish to know more.
