Greets!
I'm new to this board, but I had an idea which I've been wanting to share...
Has anyone tried designing an rpg in the styles of a native american myth, fable or "Just-So" type of story? That kind of story would be difficult to translate perhaps, but not impossible, and potentially very amusing.

What would you mean by that?
That the storyline follows the fable? There would be little room for improvisation, then.
Or that the writing style reflects the sort of 'tone' that the story is told in?
Or do you mean that each character is able to take certain things for granted? Like "I, the Old Tortoise, will now pluck the moon out of the sky and grant it to.... Mr. Fluffytail"?

I believe the game you're looking for is Exalted. <p><span style="font-size:xx-small;">"It's in the air, in the headlines in the newspapers, in the blurry images on television. It is a secret you have yet to grasp, although the first syllable has been spoken in a dream you cannot quite recall." --Unknown Armies</span></p>

Let me clarify that a little bit, please.
Role-playing in the style/tone of, say, a "Just-So" tale, it might be taken for granted that anything which alters a character's body will forever remain so in future generations etc, that animals talk and reality follows surreal, mythic patterns. Following that line of reasoning then, you can tell stories where the impossible is routinely done but is secondary to the meaning behind actions and conversations. Thus, it is not unheard of to take down the moon from the sky to use as a lantern, provided that you are helping someone out of a sticky situation by its light.

We've had similar experiments before, though not precisely like a fable. For example, I'm running an RP on another board which has a quasi-historical Chinese setting.
Would be interesting to see your idea run, though. ^_^

....what? <p><Chat> <Matto says, "What's up?"
<Chat> <Prince_Herb says, "Angst."
<Chat> <Prince_Herb says, "Drama."
<Chat> <Prince_Herb says, "Betrayal."
<Chat> <Prince_Herb says, "Plushies."</p>

My initial answer holds. <p><span style="font-size:xx-small;">"It's in the air, in the headlines in the newspapers, in the blurry images on television. It is a secret you have yet to grasp, although the first syllable has been spoken in a dream you cannot quite recall." --Unknown Armies</span></p>
