Agtherin School of Magic.

Unread postby Jak Snide » Tue Apr 15, 2003 6:41 pm

NOTE: Due to confusion, this note has been placed here. This is just an information thread, NOT an RP recruitment thread. That is all.

As a few people may know, a chat RP lead to the eventual establishment of a small school of magic, under of Headmaster Baeltinn Agtherin, ex-villain and necromancer. More recently, a character has been created that studies at this school, which prompted me to establish some basic info about the place.

The school is just outside the Doman Capital, and currently houses and teaches around 100 students. The faculty is small, only numbering 14, including Baeltinn and Enlil, who was offered a job there to teach Vocal Harmonics.

The main subjects taught, besides Vocal Harmonics, are Healing, Holy, Fire, Ice, Water, Lightning, Water, Wind, Necromancy and Dark magic. A small side class in Astral magic is provided, due to one of the teachers having an interest and some practice in the area. It should be noted that Necromancy is slightly focused on more than the other subjects, due to Baeltinn's proficiency with that school of magic. Lastly, two beginners classes are also taught. One as a primer on magic for those who are gifted and totally unexperienced (which teaches a few basic cantrips as well), and a crash course in reading a writing for those who are not yet literate.

Students of obviously evil intent are turned away due to Enlil's influence, but otherwise, as long as there is any positive moral quality about them, a student will be granted entry. Students can be of any age, but most are aged 14 to 22 or so. Students live in the school dormitories, which are currently all shared due to lack of funds to provide enough dormitories for each student to have their own. More are under construction at this point.

The rules of the school are still being tested, but prohibit drinking for anyone aged 14 or less, and the use of other intoxicating substances, bar the various forms of pipe weed. Obviously, diabolically evil practicing of magic results in punishment, although expulsion is something Baeltinn wishes to avoid, considering his schools need for paying students. To quote a recent staff meeting, "It was only a minor demon invocation."

While the school can't compare to Gunnir, it is an adept, if young, school which received initial funding from the Doman Government, as well as a certain rumor mongering mage due to angelic coercion.

If I remember, Pervy wanted the Neo Vanists to work there. Therefore, uh, yeah.
<Chat> <Matto says, "What's up?"

And, I beleive you decided to back out, citing that the ideological differences would keep it from working.

Image Image Image Image Image ImageImage

Cool ^_^ Another school of magic. This can broaden people's horizons... I mean there needs to be more mage-schools other than Gunnir. *wonders where Midoku learned magic* I mean he's a Blue Mage right?

Well, there ARE other magic schools. They're just not on Igala. :D

Oh, and this school sounds cool, Jak. I am tempted to make yet one more "character too many" (whose ranks are increasing by the day) to study there.

Terra: I think a lot of mages learn from private tutors. I know Dia did.

And there are more magic schools than Gunnir, it's just few people make them up. Just because they aren't marked doesn't mean they don't or can't exist.

There's a white mage school Pervy's got going, though...

Might as well add this-

Gail Academy- Located in the City of Storms, this is where most higher ranking officers of the Barian Army went to school. Training the best and brightest in wide fields, specialising on talents the students are already proficient in (Those who know how to use a sword would go to classes specialising in hand to hand combat, Mages to classes on the elemental magics, and so on), this academy is known to have trained a great deal of excelent soldiers, and every member of the origanal Black Soul Knights attended classes here.

The Electoral College - Located on Crown Land, the Electoral College of Theice teaches every topic imaginable. After the mandatory four year education a student may elect to attend the college in a wide variety of subjects, usually several at once. They range from magic use, to military service, to Lucian doctrine, to architecture, to language, to art, and so on. However one of the greatest achievements of the college is the advances they have made in medicine. Nearly all the instructors within the college are vampires, meaning there are a great deal of night classes as well as classrooms without windows.

The college is not free, not by any stretch of the imagination. The average citizen cannot afford to attend even a single year of classes, let alone a full blown course. However Sponsorship has become a common practice within the College. A person may apply for sponsorship if they show a degree of talent in a given field. Sponsors can be businesses, organizations, the military, a District Lord, or even crime syndicates. The usual practice, especially for the latter, is upon completion of their time in the college the student must serve his or her sponsor for a term negotiated at the time of sponsorship. Failure to complete classes or the term of service can be met with harsh fines, jail time, and even more extreme measures.

Rather than stating a new school, I would like to talk to Jak about applying to have a character I'm making apply as a teacher there, using a very different, and new style of Magic to Gaera.
Please IM me about this.
