d20 Call of Cthulhu Game

My comp just recently died. It absolutely refuses to boot up. The computer itself turns on, but nothing at all appears on the monitor. This is bad, because all of my game information is stored on that hard drive. So, I'm asking you people to help me out a bit.

1. What could be wrong?
2. How do I check for viruses or whatever, seeing as how the computer will turn on but do nothing else.

This happened last night, I was playing Baldur's Gate and it froze. I restarted the comp, and it didn't work. Prior to that, my sound card seemed to be screwy ... either that, or my headphones just gave up the ghost.

With symptoms like that, I think that the motherboard is shot. Fortunately, the hard disk will probably work if moved to another machine. Try that.

And it's probably not a virus, since it sounds like a hardware problem and viruses don't affect the hardware. <p>-----

Thanks Zem, got the computer up and running. Now I just need to get it connected to the net again, so I'll be phoning my service provider for a basic walkthroughon that at about 8am tomorrow.

In other words, CoC is still scheduled for tomorrow, peeps. Look alive, because not much else will be ...
