Baron Info *Semi-notebookish post ressurection*

Unread postby FF Fanatic 80 » Tue Aug 20, 2002 12:34 am

Hey peeps,

In light of some recent posts... I think I've got to give Baron's history and backstory somewhat of an overhaul. Having the map, cities, and history resembling the one from the Final Fantasy game is just causing too much confusion. So, I thought I'd post here for any suggestions/advice anyone had to offer to me, specifically anyone who's done something this massive before. ^.^;;

Right now, the only things that really can't be changed are the existance of Cain Citadel, Baron Capital itself, and the existance of airships there (Daniel's home too, of course ^.^; ). I've yet to see anyone RP in Mist or as a summoner from that area... maybe it would be a good idea to just leave that out, to help stop the confusion? I do have some ideas for a bit of a history to Baron. The big one involves the appearance of Odin, the start of 'recorded history' in that kingdom, but I'm worried all this won't be enough to offset the FF4 similarities.

Any other suggestions/complaints? Feel free to tell me, I'd rather know something is bothering anyone than have it kept in the dark? ^.^;

I've used Mist a bit when RPing Dia in chat. I really don't think the map needs to be changed much at all (plus, it'd be one huge bitch for me to do. -_-;). I really just think a revamping of the history would do. Maybe take out the war of the crystal stuff...I don't know, I'm too tired to think.

Hello, my name is Dia. I'm a dragongirl, and I bite. Baron? You got my attention.

Unread postby Jak Snide » Tue Aug 20, 2002 8:04 am

I've used Baron once for a small bar RP. Aegir city, I believe. I've been interested in getting a little description of each town. I haven't used Baron or the area for a "proper" (read: non-bar) RP, and I'd like to give it a whirl.

And the map is fine. No need to rename/move around stuff.

I don't think you should remove the war of the crystals, just rename it or somesuch, change around some details and keep the overall idea the same. In my little history of Et Kespe, the people fled from the War of the Crystals, so if there was no war, why'd they go? I suppose I could change around some things, but I've noticed that many people in character descriptions and histories have based upon the existing Baron (such as Daniel seeking the autograph of King Cecil...), so major changes probably wouldn't do.

There are all sorts of reasons for people to flee besides war - famine, pestilence, Mickey Dee's opens up shop. I flee from the kitchen every time a can of sauerkraut is opened.
...Plus a change creates all sorts of chances for us to interject our own ideas 'n creativity! Hooray interjection!
~Marty

Thanks for the input so far. :) *Updated*

Came up with a few more things, but before I post that...

Dia/Koneko: I agree with you, that should probably be MUCH more vague. Could probably use a huge disclaimer too saying it's BASED on the original. Also... I should probably take out the autograph stuff from Dan's Bio, or at least re-write it >_>;;;;;

Jak: These aren't the entire descriptions, but it's a start ^.^;;;

***Work in Progress Stuff***

Start of Recorded History for the People of Baron:

Note: The validity of Baron's history is highly debated by historical scholars in the nation. Many believe some of the 'accounts' of the past are nothing more than legends, or embellishments of important, but not quite 'mystical' events. One should take any 'information' from that period wih caution.

The Appearance of Odin.

Before the kingdom of Baron existed, small pockets of settlements and tribes dotted the land. Many lived close to the currently named 'Titan Mountains', in order to avoid the harsh, desert climate further south. Life was very hard for these early Baronians, as they spent most of their short lives wandering the land, hunting and gathering for food, just trying to survive day to day. There was little time for them to do anything else, other than try to continue living. All this would change after the period known as 'The Awakening'. The following is an excert from the 'The Way of the Zantetsuken':

"...and the sky was as dark as night, as the great clouds in the sky gathered over the great lake in the high mountains. And lo, the powerful light from the sky came down, striking the mountains and blanketing the air with debris. The people gazed toward the the mountains, their gaze falling upon a great gateway. Another world could be seen inside the mountains, colors and shapes unlike anything in this world. In another flash of light from the sky, a large being emerged from the gateway. As the sky roared above him, the being descended to the land upon a great creature. The creature looked almost like a horse, save for the unnatural colors of it's pelt and mane. A blinding pelt of pearl, which gradually shifted to the deepest black on its main, snout, and hooves. As the creature galloped through the land, it left the ground torn asunder in its wake, the creature's eyes glowing with a frightening red light. The being riding the creature wore intricatley crafted armor, beyond anything the people had ever seen. Atop his head he wore a helm of dark obsidian, with large, intimidating horns. His face was covered by a large mane of silver hair, tied into several braids at both his head and his chin. On his back he had a large lancet, glowing with a soft, purple light. In his hand he held a large blade, which crackled with the same light as that from the sky. Thus, did the people of Baron first lay eyes upon Odin..."

According to most 'historical' documents and information gathered from that period, Odin gathered the fragmented clans together. He aiding them all with his knowledge and combative prowess. He tought them the way of the sword, strategy and planning, how to forge and create their own weapons and armor, among other skills. Most important of all, he helped unite them as a single people.

The formation of Baron

After one thousand years of teaching and leading the people, Odin decided that the time had come for the people to begin leading themselves for the future. In order to choose who would lead, a series of trials and tournaments were arranged.
Many are said to have perished during these trials, the most deadly of which was venturing into Mist Caverns alone, and returning with the head of a Mist Serpent. Only one clan would eventually complete this task, earning their line the right to govern and rule the people in Odin's name. That family, of course, was the Baron clan.

More to be added later....

Local Geography

Baron's Borders fall around the limited amount of habitable land south of the Titan mountain range, overlapping somewhat with the surrounding desert areas. North of Odin's trail is very uneven land, still 'untamed' and covered in dense forests. To the south, a few pockets of forest still remain, thought much of the land is either settled or used for agriculture.

Brief descriptions of Local towns/cities

Updated
Baron Castle: Capital of the Kingdom of Baron, surrounded by a small city. This is the oldest structure in the entire kingdom. It also one of the more 'unique' structures as well, the castle having been added to, partially demolished, rebuild, partially destroyed again, and so on over the long period. Several architects enjoy visiting the castle to see the various construction methods used in the castle's lifetime.

The surrounding city, while initially mostly homes and businesses, is slowly starting to become the cultural center of the kindom as well, with the loss of Isalia.

Ordana Village: Located along the route between Port Rosalia and Baron Castle. For the most part is a quiet, along the road farming community. Gets most of its income from passing travellers spending the night and local agriculture. The only thing of note in the village is the single two-story structure of the Ishtarian Church, a statue of a Phoenix standing over the front doors.
(Important RP Note: Three of my characters are from this town, so keep that in mind when Rping here. ^_^; )

Mist Caverns: Locally known as the "Haze Maze", leads though the mountains to Mist Village, as well as the lands to the north. These caverns are not officially part of Baron, however, and are extremely dangerous. It is thought that the very mist of the cave itself is alive...

Mist Village: Located in the Titan mountains, home of the summoners.

Port Sleipnir: Location for trade and the millitary, named after Odin's Steed. A frequent spot for those in the armed forces to gather socially as well as to prepare for military activity.

Port Rosalia: Used for travel and limited commerce, named after Queen Rosalia Harvey. A favorite place for travellers to stay and have fun outside of the capital, the 2nd most populated city in the Kingdom.

Isalia Ruins: Once a city located in a deep valley, renowned for its artists, scholars, and vast libraries and knowledge. Destroyed several years ago during an uprising against the kingdom, what's left of the town is heavily saturated in dark and undead magics. Many creatures congregate there now, so few dare set foot within the city limits, as very few ever return...

Cain Citadel: Training facility located near the northern mountains, known for its Dragoon forces.
(Since Dia's done a lot with the Dragoons of Baron, I won't be very specific)

Fort Lancet: Military facility, located in the desert area east/southeast of Baron Castle. While it specializes in training magic combined with swordplay, they also teach traditional swordsmanship for the non-magically inclinded. Was once the sole combat training facility in the kingdom, until the founding of Cain Citadel for the Dragoons. As such, there is a bit of a rivalry between the two.
(Formerly Gungnir, until I realized AM's academy had a simliar name)

Cidolfas Airfields: Location of airship construction, maintenence and limited research, across the river from Castle Baron. Named after the first man to successfully create an aviation device.

Baron Falls: A large waterfall fed with water from Leviathan Lake's upper pool.

Lake Leviathan: Collective name for the lakes connected by Baron Falls.

Odin's Trail: A large river leading from Lake Leviathan to Baron Captial.

Aegir City: Prosperous costal community, known for sailing and beaches during warmer seasons, as well as the wealthier members of Baronian society. Many of the wealthy in the city look down upon the 'tourists', despite them providing much of the city's needed funding.

Random local stuff:

Odin's Trail, in ancient legends, was the aftermath of Odin's first entrance into Igalia. It was once a long, carved canyon thousands of years ago. There are two different versions of how it became a river. The Baronian version states that Odin lost his temper in rage, killing thousands as he lowered his blade in anger. He is said to have wept for days, filling the river with his tears before sealing himself away to atone, one year for every life he took from his people. In the Mist version, Leviathan appeared to the people of Mist, overflowing the Lake and flooding the canyon with his waters.

Leviathan's Lake is said to have been created by the appearance of a water being in the lands of Mists. Some even say it is directly tied to the lands the Summoned comed from...

The Shrine to Odin, located behind Baron Falls, is where it was once believed Odin first appeared in the physical world.

Fort Lancet and Cain Citadel have had a long running friendly 'Feud', trainees from both installations often trying to 'one up' the trainees of the other.

I've only outlined the 'major' cities in Baron, there are several smaller vilages that *could* exist, should anyone find it necessary or feel like adding to Baron.

Info on Mist Villlage

Unread postby FF Fanatic 80 » Thu Jan 30, 2003 3:39 pm

This is a preliminary I've managed to get typed so far, suggestions are welcomed.

History: The Summoners of Mist

Year 0 - Denouncing the Warrior 'God'

The original settlers of Mist were once from the same area as the people of Baron. Some of the tribes were wary of following Odin, fearing that he may be a demon, or some kind of evil spirit. These tribes retreated through a pass in the Titan Mountains, hoping to find a way into the lands further north. Unfortunately for them, the caverns were full of many dangerous and deadly creatures. They thought the risks was worth it in the end, however, and decided to take their chances in the cave, rather than passing the harsh terrain that surrounded their lands. Many of these original settlers died, sacrificing their lives so that their brethren could move on and build a bright future for their people. After much travel, they finally made it to their current home, a patch of fertile land located in the Titan Mountains. The land was low enough on the mountains to receive rain, yet high enough to be nearly unnnoticed by the people back in their former homeland. The survivors went right to work trying to cultivate the land and make this place livable.

Year 1,000 - They Were Not Alone

The people chose to call their village 'Mist', named after the frequent weather phenomenon common to this land, as well as the cave leading to their village. As time passed, the people started to notice something odd about their homeland. Many frequently felt they were not alone, aside from the occasional beast lurking out of the caverns. Some began to have dreams about strange looking creatures, others swearing they saw people of flame or wolves of lighting running in the distance. None today are exactly sure when this changed, however the story told by both sides goes something like this:

A human of Mist and one of the Summoned shared a dream one night, each hearing the other's thoughts. As the nights went on, they soon learned who each other were, and of each other's worlds. Each being felt drawn to a place in their worlds, the human of Mist to a hill overlooking their village. The two beings spent several nights at this spot, until one night reality around the pair seemed to bend and warp. It was this moment when a Summoner and a human of mist first came into physical contact with each other. The pair frequently met with one another at this spot, trying to find ways to meet without having to wait for their worlds to allow them. This would eventually lead to the first 'bonding' of Summoner and Summoned. Things would not immediately go smoothly between the two worlds, as there was much fear from both sides of these 'strange people'. The early people of Mist thought the Summoned were demons, while the Summoned viewed the people of Mist as an annoyance. It would take several years before relations between the two people's stabilized.

Year 2,000 onward - Though there have been periods of darker times for both peoples during these years, for the most part the lands of Mist have been tranquil and peaceful, for both Summoners and the Summoned. Each learned more and more of each other's words, the society of Mist becoming deeply entwined with the society of the Summoned. (AKA: Open for Additions / RP background stories)

Year Unknown (400 years ago from current RP time) - Destruction

This marks the darkest day in the history of Mist. The King of Baron at this time was hell bent on making Baron a worldwide power. It was decided that the summoners of Mist posed too great a risk to his plans. In the guise of a gift of respect to the powerful people of Mist, one of the Kingdom's Knights was sent to deliver this gift in person. When he arrived in the village to meet the elders, the gift revealed its true nature. It was a summoning artifact, calling forth a swarm of deadly, blood-thirsty demons that quickly killed the elders, soon moving out against the rest of the village. The surviving Summoners called forth their Summons, a long, grueling battle taking place between the demons and the people of Mist. To the surprise of the survivors, the same Knight who brought this destruction upon the village was doing his best to aid them in stopping the demons. After several hours of fighting, the demons had been eraticated. The surviving Summoners and their Summoned all gathered around the Knight, enraged and saddened at the loss of their comrades. To their surprise, however, they found this Knight weeping openly before them. He looked around to all that had gathered, tears in his eyes as he uttered his last words:

"I am sorry for the horrors I have brought upon you, and the dishonor I have brought to the Knights of Baron. May Odin forgive me, and watch over all of you."

He then stabbed himself in the chest, ending his life before the stunned Summoners and Summoned.

This Knight's sacrifice is one of the few reasons not all the people of Mist have hatred for Baron. A small monument still exists at the entrance to the village, in honor of the Knight who tried to right this wrong.

Current Day - Mist Today

After several generations of fear of the outside world, the people of Mist are slowly starting to venture back out into the rest of the world again. The age old tradition of the 'Journey of Enlightenment' has been started again, and many Summoners are once again using the pass from Baron to the northern lands as a way of training their skills, via escorting people through the hazardous caverns, as well as earning some coin for the village.

Mist Summoner Info

*Summoners and the rest of Mist*

Due to the thin barrier between they heavy magical plane of the Summoned and the area of Mist, over the generations the people of this land tend to have a better affinity for magic than average humans. However, in order to become a candidate for being a Summoner, one must have an affinity for magic much higher than normal, otherwise the bond will become too taxing on both the Summoner and the Summoned. This is also true of the Summoned in their world, so a Summoner and the Summoned are, for the most part, highly respected by the people of both worlds (there are, of course, exceptions for certain pompous, arrogant individuals, etc). This is not the only way the two worlds meet, however. In a paticular part of Mist is a shrine on a hill overlooking their village. This location is the place where the barrier between Mist and the Summoned's world is weakest. It is where individuals from one side can attempt to cross to the other with minimal strain. This only occurs roughtly every two weeks, the rest of the time still requiring a lot of effort on the part of the individual(s) attempting to cross, at high risk to their health. Due to this, it is not unusual for one to see many exotic, strange beings casually walking around the Area of Mist.

*Culture*
(Would like some input on this ^_^; )

*The Summoned*

This is the name the people of Mist have given these magical beings from another plane, and one said people have adopted in identifying themselves in the Summoner's plane. These beings have radically varying forms, some appearing humaniod, others resembling creatures such as wolves, lions, bears, and the like, others beyond an equivalent discription from the human world. While each individual is unique, there are some consistent traits among the Summoned.

While those outside of Mist frequently believe these creatures to be immortal, the truth is that the longest a Summoned has been known to live is 1,000 years, the average tending to be somewhere around 300 years.

All usually have a tight bond to magic in some form. Most of the time, this is in the form of great skill with a certain type of magic, such as control over one of the elemnts, etc. In a few cases, this bond is used by the individual to enhance their physical skills, rather than magical.

The Summoned have their own language, though most pick up the human language rather quickly from their frequent contact with the people of Mist. Only Summoners who have been bonded with a Summoned for many years usually has hope of learning any of this language.

FInally, all Summoned creatures have the ability to take a smaller, less powerful form of themselves in the Summoner's world. This acts as an advantage to both the Summoner and the Summoned, as doing so makes it less taxing for both to maintain the Summoned in the human plane. Generally all will take some kind of human-like form, as a form of respect to the Summoners. The more animal-like and exotic Summons, however, will occasionally take the form of an animal or other creature from the human world.

*Bonding*

When a child of Mist reaches the age of 10, a council is conviened to determine if said child has the gifts necessary to become a summoner. The council consists of 10 members, the community's five most experienced Summoners, and their five bonded Summons. The child is tested in various ways, their magical ability, their character, much of this is left up to each individual council. This is not the end of the test, however. Once the child is decided to be ready, The Summoned go to their own world to find someone to bond with the child. Most in Mist are not 100% sure what methods are used by the Summoned, though some Summoned have hinted to their Summoners it involves their own tests and trials back in their world. Once the Summoner and Summoned have been selected, a special ceremony is held in the village temple. This spot is where the bondaries between the plane of the Summoners and the plane of the Summoned is weakest. The council members gather in this temple, the Summoners calling forth the Summoned they are bound with and the Summoned to be bonded to the child.

(OOC: I'm not 100% sure how this should go yet, I'm open to suggestions)

The intricate ceremony involves magic of the people from both worlds, as well as the child and unbonded Summoned. Once complete, the connection between both becomes immediate. A Summoner and their Summoned are assigned to watch over the two for a short period of time to help them adjust, as the shock of having someone in their thoughs has frequently caused discomforting, and occasionally violent tension in the past. Once this period ends, the pair are seperated for length of time to be trained. The Summoned prepare the bonded one for taking their new form in the human world

The Summoned and the Summoner share a tight bond. As time passes, each can hear and respond to the other merely by though. Initially, the Summoned has more of an advantaged, as they tend to develop their abilites at a faster rate than their Summoner. This leads to the situation many Summoners jokingly called "The Age of No Privacy", as the Summoned can easily read any thoughts the Summoner may have. As the Summoner becomes more accustomed to their bond, however, they eventually learn to block their thoughts much better. In some cases, the Summoner can even force himself into the Summoned's thoughts. This is also jokingly called "The Age of Payback". In general, close Summoners and Summoned will respect each other enough not to do so, unless each feels something is severly wrong with the other.

One may wonder why the beings of this plane began to do this in the first place. The Summoned enhance the Summoner's abilites, while the Summoner also allows the Summoned to learn at a much higher rate. This is why

*Summoning*

The art of summoning involves the Summoner and the Summonded channeling their magical powers in a ritualistic spell, allowing the Summoner to 'call' the Summoned to assist him. Because this involves forcing the Summoned through the barrier between the Summoned plain and Gaera's plane, the spell is extremely taxing on both individuals. As noted above, this effect can be lessened by the Summonded taking on a less powerful form before coming over.

(I'd like some input on how to make this 'fair' should someone want to make a Mist Summoner for PS, etc. )

*Taboo's*

The summoned are not simply wild creatures with powerful abilites. They are concious, emotional, rational beings that have the ability to choose their actions. As such, it is not surprising that in the early days, many summoned became very close to the ones they bonded with. The results of some of these relationships, namely children, usually caused much tension between both societies. The child of such a relationship would never feel quite right, drawn to both the world of humans and the world of the Summoned. This also caused much anguish and sorrow to the Summoned, as they normally live much longer than humans, and in some cases outlived their offspring.

Because of all this, the following guidelines have become deeply entrenched into the dual society:

1) The Summoner and The Summoned must be of the same gender when bonded.

Obviously, in certain cases, this would not be 100% effective, but this feeling still remains today in a majority of The Summoned and the people of Mist.

2) The Summoned may not spend a lengthy period of time in the human world, unless absolutely necessary.

There were some Summoned who, after spending a lengthy time in the human world, became overcome with the idea of holding power over the 'weak' humans of this world. Some even went so far as to take over the mind of their Summoner, using them to fulfill their selfish desires. It is beleived by many that limiting the time spent in the human plane will help prevent this from occuring, though there is a vocal faction in both worlds that strongly disagree with this. While not strictly enforced, those who are found out are normally punished in some manner.

3) A Summoner and A Summoned must never, ever have anything deeper than friendship with one another.

As mentioned above, it was viewed that this caused too much grief and sorrow for all parties involved. Should such a relationship be found out, the people of both worlds are harsh in their punishment. The Summoned is usually forbidden from ever returning to the Human plain, and the human is banished from the village Mist, never to return.

Zante: The name of Baron's currency. Consists of two types:

Coins
Except for one, all coins depict the crest of Baron on the back.

0.50 - Has a bust depicting King Reginald Timast Baron, the first King.
1.00 - Has an image of Queen Eliza Ann Baron, Queen of the first King, superimposed on an older image of Castle Baron.
2.00 - No longer made, has Odin on one side, his horse Sleipnir on the other. Still commonplace, however.
10.00 - Has an image of the Titan Mountain range.
50.00 - No longer made or used (officially), rare and valuable. Has a picture of the last of the Baron line of Kings.

Paper
Started coming into use during the years after the Great War era (about 400 years ago). When a new denomination of money is made, the Baron Castle landscape is switched onto it (Thus always keeping it on the highest denomination of money).

The landscape to replace it on the old bill is held as a contest, then voted upon by the citizens of Baron.

So, if a 1000.00 Zante is ever made, the Castle Baron picture is moved to that, and a new one will be made for the 500.00

50.00 - Colored blue, Back has a picture of Port Rosalia and the port waters.
100.00 - Colored orange, Back has a landscape of Fort Lancet and the surrounding desert
200.00 - Colored green, Back has a landscape of Cain Citadel and the surrounding moutains.
500.00 - Colored red, Back has a landscape of Castle Baron and the surrounding city.

Baron's Crest.

Nation's colors are Crimson, white, and black. Background is crimson, with a white silouette of Odin on his steed above a black crossed sword and lance. (Minor Historical innacuracy: The flag depicts Odin riding a 4 legged horse, though most legends say that his steed had 8)

Interestingsome.

Oh yes yes indeed.

A note: We shortened Doma's history by several thousand years. To make it a bit more plausible. So you can take a few of them empty spots out.

Also, that flag is great.

Image Image Image Image Image ImageImage

Edit: And thanks for the praise on the flag man, even if it's just a FF4 sprite on top of a pair of hand drawn pixels ^_^;;;

It's taboo and there's good reason to keep it hidden. Doesn't mean it's impossible. >:P

Well, people do travel into the northern lands, albeit unfrequently, so I'm sure a few travellers have told tales of the amazingly strong mountain people and their vicious 'boinking' beasts >:D

You know...

Shyld might be a good candidate to be a summoner.

I never really did elaborate too much on his nationality, and nothing on his abilities.

I wonder if that could be pulled off?

Image Image Image Image Image ImageImage

In Aya and Tai's Vacation RP, they were rescued by 3 Metallic Kirin Spirits. o.o They could possibly be summons though they might be moe inclined to natives.....

Well, since it's essentially another plane parallel to Gaera's, I guess that could work Neko. Maybe there are other points on the planet where the barrier between the two worlds is low, like in Mist?

Unread postby FF Fanatic 80 » Wed Mar 05, 2003 3:13 pm

Figured I'd bump this with two questions I have, if anyone feels like answering.

1) Someone mentioned awhile back that Doma's history was shortened significantly from what it was in the original Gaera guide (I think it said it was over 10,000 years old). I recall Charles saying some of the people of Doma may have been from the Baron area originally, so I'm curious how old Doma is considered right now to keep Baron's own history consistent.

2) Does anyone have any suggestions for information I may have left out, or want to contribute? ^_^;;;

You know, am I the only one thinking that 10,000 ago is ridiculously long for Doma's founding?

I'd cut it down to no more than 3000 years myself. 2500 is better, and still incredibly old for a single continuous government.

Image Image Image Image Image ImageImage

Due to a question that came up, it occured to me I haven't touched this post in... a hellllll of a long time @_@

SO! I post up something I was going to have on a website at some point. Its still somewhat incomplete, but gives a much briefer overview of a few events in the country, so far.

History of Baron

2189 BT

Odin first appears to the people of what would later be known as Baron.
This period of time is referred to as the Age of Enlightenment.

Some of the clans, believing him to be some form of demon, leave through
caves in the northern mountains. They settle in the lands later to be known as Mist.

2100 BT

In order to teach the following generation the ways of combat,
Odin orders the construction of a training facility in the eastern desert lands.
This location would come to be known as Fort Lancet.

1188 BT

Odin tells his followers that soon, he must leave this world.
As his last act as leader, he orders the construction of a great palace
for the clan's future leader. He also begins the process of testing the clans
via several trial and tournaments to determine who should rule in his absense.

1189 BT

Baron is founded, named for the clan victorious in Odin's trials and tournaments.
Domanus Domanada, one of the original contenders for power, and his clan leave Baron,
discontent with rule under the Baron clan.

This period would come to be known as the Age of Discovery.

1150 BT

Construction of Baron Castle is completed.

1100-1090 BT

Baron engages in its first long term skirmish with enemy forces.
Several clans from the desert lands unite in order to take control of the northern lands,
hoping to take advantage of the young nation's recent loss of their powerful leader.

During this time, much of Baron Castle is damaged and has to be repaired.
This would be the first of several times during the nation's history.

Emerging victorious, Wilham Baron rewarded the clans most instrumental in their victory.
Their family name was given the title of 'house', denoting prestige and privelage
in the eyes of their monarch. This would mark the beginning said traditoin, as well
as more visible aristocracy in Baron.

910

The Baronian War of the Crystals begins.
During this war, the government of Baron engages in an extremely destructive attack against
the village Mist, using a summoning artifact to kill most of the village elders.
The knight who delivered this artifact aided the villagers in fighting the summoned demons off,
and sacrificed himself due to the dishonor of his actions.

910-915(?)
(Details to be worked out with GM's, as this may involve several current nations)

915(?)

With the help of several clans and cohorts from across Igalia,
Celial Harvey puts an end to the reign of the Baron family.
At the insistance of both his comrades and the people of the nation,
he takes the throne as the first of the Harvey line of Kings.

920

Rosalia Harvey passes away after giving birth to her son, Derin.

Celial Harvey orders the construction of a second port city, to be named after his late wife.
This would come to be known as Port Rosalia.

1298

In a surprise attack that shocks the nation,
the city of Isalia is laid to waste in less than a day.
What few survivors manage to escape describe creatures of unspeakable horrors,
and mages using the dark arts.

All of Baron's military power is mobilized,
the people of the southern cities and towns evacuated.

1299

For nearly a year, the two sides are at a stalemate.
The forces of Baron manage to hold their enemies
in the southern regions of the nation,
though the number of dead for Baron is starting to rise.

Fredrick Leon Harvey falls in a battle to push the enemy further south.
This leaves his Chancellor to run the nation until his son,
Trevor Reginald Harvey, comes of age.

The nation's enemies begin to press further north,
forcing Baron to fall back and struggle to hold their ground several times.

1300

In an act of desperation, the forces of Baron plan an all out offensive
at the heart of the enemy forces, with aid from the summoners of Mist.

Several units stay behind, Under the command of Alexander Hyral,
to make sure enemy forces do not advance
into the northern lands while the main forces are occupied.

Alexander Hyral's defensive forces fall, but manage to hold off the enemy.
This would give Baron the breathing room needed to eventually overcome their foes

Further tension emerges between Baron and Mist afterward, however.
Many in the nation wondered why the summoners did not assist them sooner,
possibly preventing the numerous deaths.

1303

The Tanascus Archives officially open, named for Baron's former head of magical research in Isalia.

1310

Trevor Reginal Harvey officially claims his title as King of Baron on his 18th birthday.

1314

Baron declares its support for the country of Doma, during its war with the demon Malachias.

VERY MINOR CULTURAL UPDATE

As you people know, I was recently given control of Baron, what it is and it was, and so on.

It's been pointed out to me that Mist technically left Baron some time ago, as a kind of independant. While not truly it's own Nation, it has developed away from the Majority of Baron. As such, various lingual aspects are likely to have developed away form Baron, aside from the other things already mentioned in the guide.

So, at suggestion, I'd like to say that Mist, as a Stereotype, will follow more Irish lingual influences, as Baron tends to follow after UK influences. This is entirely for RPers to have fun with that thick crazy accent no one seems to be able to keep up with, especially once Irish have gotten some liquor into them!

This does not mean that I intend for Mist to start follow the larger cultural nature of Ireland though. The Ishtarians, Followers of Odin, and the Agnostics probably aren't going to be ripping at one another's throats for example.

To summarize, this isn't a big change at all really, but I didn't really see a reason not to do it. Comments/rantings?

I intend to update this thread soon. Because by hokey, I said I would when I took the job. That and I don't want it to slide off into the void. However, right now, I need to lie down and stop being sick. Uuuuhg.

I'll edit this when I feel better with some thing Baron's been doing since the war. Because there's definitely been sociopolitical ramifications to Trevor's pulling Baron into the war without the Council's aproval.

Back in some hours... or days, depending on family and suchlike.

Anyway, whatever you feel up to is much appreciated.
-------------------------
