Elemaer: On Two Fronts (freestyle, CLOSED)

Unread postby Spleen » Tue Jul 27, 2004 9:31 pm

During the Second War of the Gods, almost 950 years ago, the Dark God Su’riik decided to play traitor against his fellow Gods and assist their enemies, the Great Demons of Ar’tok. With the help of Su’riik and his Order of Darkness, the Great Demons were able to simultaneously open thousands of portals throughout the world of Elemaer without the knowledge of the other Gods and pull through thousands upon thousands of unnatural creatures, filling the lands of Elemaer with a veritable plague of monsters.

It is one of the key responsibilities of the five remaining Elemental Orders – Light, Water, Earth, Fire, and Air – to reclaim these lands for the humans of Elemaer any way they can. Just after the Second War, a huge, sweeping campaign was launched from the Great City of As’nar to clear the northeastern part of the continent of Azurin of the more dangerous varieties of monsters. During this campaign, the five Orders worked in complete and seamless unison to extinguish the threat of monster invasion of As’nar, and succeeded completely, even with only a fraction of the numbers they currently possess.

Nearly a millennium after the north lands of Azurin were tamed, monsters still roam the lion’s share of the lands of Elemaer. Constant infighting between the Orders of the Elemental Gods has seriously impaired their ability to coordinate their plans, reducing the effectiveness of their reclaiming campaigns. The oldest and most tension-filled of these conflicts is between the Order of Earth and the Order of Air. This conflict is believed to have been going on for over six hundred years, but historians have still not been able to discover a cause. Over the past 75 years alone, an estimated 135 riots and three minor wars have arisen from this conflict.

The Order of Air has set its sights on a small island off the northeast coast of the Azurin mainland as the next bit of land they will claim for the people of Elemaer. They have organized a six-member scouting team of Gustohrans and Wind Guides to travel to the island and collect as much information as they can about the terrain and the various monster varieties that a larger strike force from the Order will have to contend with.

However, what the Order of Air does not know is that they are not the only Order to have targeted this small land. It seems that the Order of Earth has begun its own preparations as well…

(As I alluded to in the intro, I'm looking for five other players to be members of the Order of Air {information for which is pending}. I'm running this, as far as I know right now, totally freestyle, but I may be attempting to implement the skeleton of my proposed Elemaer system for character creation at the least.)

(EDIT: Forgot to say that character creation stuff is pending, too. As is most of the other stuff I need to put down. Except the stuff on the world of Elemaer itself! That I have! Except I need to find what I did with it.)

(EDIT2: Uploaded the On Two Fronts version of the Elemaer Map, in which the island in question is highlighted with yellow angle thingies. www.geocities.com/combatc...mapotf.txt Enjoy)
-_-_-_-_-_-_-_-_-_

Elemaer Information

Unread postby Spleen » Tue Jul 27, 2004 11:04 pm

Elemaer is a planet with approximately the same size as Earth (but a little closer to its sun, making it usually warmer). It is governed by the five Highest Gods, who each have an element they oversee. Krad is the god of fire, Trixer is the god of water, Verir is the god of earth, Laetha is the goddess of air, and Alexairea is the goddess of light. There was originally a god of darkness, Su’riik, but he aligned himself with the demons of Ar’tok against his siblings and was stripped of his position (but not of his power) by the other five. Each god or goddess has their own Order that worships them. In return, the god gives the members of his or her order great power to do the bidding of the gods with. Each of these Orders is based in a temple in the great city of As’nar, the center of worship, culture, and government for the entire civilized portion of Elemaer (which isn’t much, as so many powerful monsters roam the wild lands. These Orders are essential to the safety and prosperity of the people of Elemaer, so essential that it would surprise the reader to note that about half of one percent of all Elemaerans are members of one of the Elemental Orders. These .5% (that’s a number in the ten thousands, mind you) are the top .5 percent of the world in wisdom and strength, and the only humans with the power to use magic. While based in the same city, the Orders don’t always get along with one another. Currently, Fire has a solid alliance with Air, an easy peace with Light, and a fragile non-aggression with Earth and Water. Air gets along well enough with Light and Water, but tensions between it and Earth are high. Light is at peace with all the other Orders and has a formal alliance with Water. Earth has been trying to pull its ally Water into the conflict between it and Air, currently to no avail.

The perceptive will recognize this as being the same paragraph as the one in the OOC topic for What is Lost.
-_-_-_-_-_-_-_-_-_

Yay, Elemaer RP

So, here goes another attempt at an Elemaeran RP, well, as soon as you find that info, I'll join. (Then again, that could take a while knowing how disorganized you are...)

I found the info, and posted it right above where you just put your message, genius.

Also, Order of Air notes. Character creation template comes next, then people can actually join :O

The Order of Air is based in a tall temple (in the form of two towers next to each other, connected by platforms, bridges, tunnels, etc.) in the great city of As’nar, and worship Laetha, the huntress goddess of Air, who also presides over instrumental music. The magic of the Order of Air is much easier to cast than the magic of many of the Orders, especially Air’s allies, the Order of Fire, however the spells that members of the Order of Air (also called “Laethans” after their goddess) use tend not to be as effective. The Order of Air teaches its warriors the value of speed and tactical spell casting. The six most common weapons for a Laethan warrior to use are bows, rapiers, short-swords, daggers, quarterstaves, and shortspears, although they can use any weapon they desire (however, they tend toward lighter weapons). The soldiery of the Order of Air, like that of all the Orders of the Elemental Gods, is split into seven ranks. From highest to lowest, they are as follows: Initiate, Dian, Thundaran, Gustohran, Wind Guide, Lightning Champion, Stormbringer. The Order is led by Arch-Stormbringer Shak’ural Leghtar, who was chosen personally by Laetha to lead her Order.
-_-_-_-_-_-_-_-_-_

Being the pragmatic (read: lazy) fellow I am, I figured I'd just post up for my own character and have the rest of you follow from my example.

Name: Jagen Turlis
Sex: Male
Rank: Wind Guide of the Order of Air
Age: 23 years old
Height: 5'9"
Weight: 125 lbs.
Weapon: Solid, rather heavy and unflexible rapier (quite close to a longsword, really), and a shortbow.
Armor: Steel and mithril chainmail shirt and leggings (about one third of the rings are mithril) under flexible leather armor.
Description: Light but muscular build, shoulder-length brown hair, blue eyes, fair skin. Considered handsome.
Bio: Jagen Turlis, son of famous hero Stormbringer Avag'rel Turlis, sits frequently under a cloud of rumors. Many people believe that he only reached the rank of Wind Guide because his father kept manipulating the administration to give Jagen only the easiest assignments. It does not help Jagen's case, of course, that Jagen has not been able to live up to the legacy of his father, who slayed many terrible monsters and helped secure huge stretches of territory for the people of Elemaer. Jagen has, in the whole twenty-three years of his life, helped reclaim absolutely zero square feet of territory. He volunteered to lead the scouting party in an attempt to change this and save face with his peers, and to help benefit the Order of Air.
-_-_-_-_-_-_-_-_-_

Name: Wispuna Nayver
Sex: Female
Rank: Wind Guide of the Order of Air
Age: 18
Height: 4'7"
Weight: 100 lbs.
Weapon: A quarter staff
Armor: Very light armor, made of soft leather.
Description: Low ranked and still learning. She may be a beginner but her determination makes up for a lot of her short comings. She has bright blue eyes and long brown hair which she keeps away from her eyes with a circlet. Her skin is very pale. She also wears silver hoops and a silver chain around her neck. She also often punished for day dreaming. . .but on the bright side she dose a good job cleaning.

Bio: Wisp is a bit of a klutz, and as a result she is often seen doing chores. . .mainly as a punishment. Well meaning and devoted to the order she hopes to one day become a high ranking member of the order. Her family is alive but she rarely speaks of them.

(I had to edit her up a bit.

(I changed her name is it better?)

Seethe: Not yet. The Order of Air isn't mine, I transferred planning and control for it over to Darkknight, which is why my information paragraph took so long...I had to run it by him for veracity. The problem is, of course, that he's not always around. But I've been trying to get him on a spell list. I'll probably wind up writing one myself and then showing it to him and asking what he thinks.

Bunnygirle: Sorry, I forgot to say that Elemaeran character names have to be, basically, random nonsense syllables that sound cool, and they have to have first and last names. Otherwise, the character looks good. (EDIT: Much better now.)
-_-_-_-_-_-_-_-_-_

Darkknight helps Spleen

Unread postby darkknight61189 » Sun Aug 01, 2004 3:13 pm

Ok, here's my Char sheet:

Name: Tur'nasus Jaksur
Sex: Female
Rank: Wind Guide of the Order of Air
Age: 26 years old
Height: 5' 2"
Weight: 105 lbs.
Weapon: A bow that cau be used as a quarterstaff when unstrung. Quiver tied to her waist on her belt.
Armor: Steel chainmail dyed black and worn over a brown leather tunic, with a gray short battle skirt and tight black stockings.
Description: Tur'nasus has dark black hair, usually tied back into a pony-tail, and looks a little Oriental with small but keen blue-green eyes and slightly tanned skin. She is not so repulsive you wouldn't want to look at her, but not someone you would cross the street to look at again.
Bio: Tur'nasus just returned from a trip down to the southern end of Elemaer, fighting along-side a friend of hers on an expedition to purge a section of the continent of demons. She doens't have a very big reputation among other Wind Guides, but amongst her friends she is known to have the best shot. As she returned she was assigned to Jagen's expedition. Her mother and father are both well known archers, and her ancestor was, according to family legend, a hero for having fired the arrow that turned the tide of the Second War of the Gods. Although she doesn't believe in the legend, she can not deny the fact that her mother, as well as her father, are one of the best archers in the Order. She tries to stay modest, always denying that she is the best, but inside she is proud of the achievements she has accomplished. She doesn't consider this assignment to be too important, just another routine expedition.

Seethe: Er... Spell list... umm... I have yet to work on that yet, I've been pretty busy, but as soon as I get around to it I'll come up with something.

Here's what I finally came up with:

Name: Arenda Nialin
Sex: Female
Rank: Gustohran of the Order of Air
Age: 17 years old
Height: 5'7"
Weight: 115 lbs.
Weapon: Short sword
Armor: Studded leather breastplate and leggings, hard leather boots, iron bracers, small steel shield
Description: Darkly tanned skin, shoulder length sandy-brown hair, blue eyes, wiry build
Bio: Arenda is the firstborn daughter of Tarthain and Semela Nialin of the Order of Fire. She was sent to join the Order of Air as a sign of her family’s great respect for the allies of Krad’s Order. A zealot of a warrior, she often jumps at the chance to aid in the reclamation of Elemaer. Her fault, unfortunately, is that she tends to be a bit harsh, leading some to think of her as cold and self-righteous.

Popo Returns With An RP Post

Unread postby PopoSujo » Sat Aug 21, 2004 1:03 am

Name: Vasinis Weathran, Jr.
Sex: Male
Rank: Gustohran of the Order of Air
Age: 17 years old
Height: 6'3
Weight: 150 lbs.
Weapon: Vas uses an odd combination of two mithral double-shortspears. That is to say, each of the shortspears has a spearhead (made of mithril) on each end, and he uses them in unison. Sorry, I had to write that down for my own sake.
Armor: Vas has a small iron buckler strapped to each of his forearms. His armor consists of a light chainmail shirt and leggings. He wears very billowy blue and white clothing over top of this clothing, as well as a cape that goes midway down his back. He uses his clothing as a diversionary tactic in battles.
Description: Vas is, to put it in one word, wiry. He is tall and skinny, but still pretty strong. He has sky blue eyes and long blonde hair that he keeps in a pony tail (goes to a point a little past the middle of his shoulder blades) and dyed white. He has a handsome face, but not outstandingly so, and extremely white teeth. He has blue and white tribal tatoos running from each of his shoulders down to just before his wrists.
Bio: Vasinis Weathran Jr. was hated by his father almost from the day he was born. His mother died giving birth to him, and he was lucky to survive. His father was heartbroken at this, but he became bitter as he came to realize that Vas wasn't going to be the tall handsome lean young man his dad wanted him to be. He never went to see him or visited him at all. Vas had a home in the temple, but he avoided the other kids their as they liked to pick on him and make fun of him. Lacking the advantages of height and looks, Vas quickly became one of the fastest kids in his section of the temple. That is to say, he got really good at running from people. He has lived this way for most of his life. However, starting at the age of 15, things started to change. To cut it short, he grew from 5'6 to 6'0 in a year and became skinny and quite physically appealing. He has not let this change go to his head, however, as it only happened about two years ago, and he still thinks of himself as a runt. He isn't a very outgoing person but gladly welcomes new friends, as he hasn't really had many over the course of his life. He considers this expedition a nice chance to get out of the city.

Good, good, good.

Oh....something stupid of me to have not mentioned.

The average age of a Gustohran is 18-24, and Wind Guides can be any age from 24 to ancient and decrepit...sorry I didn't remember to point that out sooner. Popo reminded me when we were talking about his character.

As such, unfortunately, Tur'nasus and Wispuna are DEFINETELY going to have to be older.

Jagen doesn't, because his father's a great hero, and the children of great heroes frequently luck out and get promoted early. At least he didn't get promoted four years before his time, like poor Telerak (my character in What is Lost).
-_-_-_-_-_-_-_-_-_

Sorry, Nev. This is an Order of Air thing. If an Alexairean got involved, there'd be problems with the whole Air vs. Earth dimension to this, because the Order of Light is more likely to side with Earth (because of pressure from Light and Earth's mutual ally Water).

OK, so here's the long awaited spell-list. All the same rules apply, so I'm going to copy and paste the entry from "What Is Lost". Within an element’s set of magic (for example, Fire) there are many groups of spells made up of spells differing only in effectiveness – it can last longer, do more damage, give more protection, etc. Except for where stated, characters gain the first level of a spellgroup (Lesser) as an Initiate in an order, and each successive level of the spell (Minor, Normal, Major, Greater, Ultimate, Infinite, Divine) is obtained at each successive rank. Divine spells can only be used by the leaders of the six Orders and the six Heralds of the Elemental Gods.

Wind Tunnel: The user is able to manipulate the wind into a forceful gale who's strength increases with each level. At the Lesser level, the wind has a force of a meer twenty miles an hour. Every level after that, the force picks up by ten miles per hour, except for the last level, which jumps the force up by twenty miles per hour rather than ten.

Flight: One of the most basic magics. The user has the wnid pick up behind him, and beneath him, allowing him to rise from the ground and move about in the air. The higher the level, the farther up you can go. The height is in direct conjunctoin to the amount of force you have with your Wind Tunnel spell.

Tornado: As the name implies, the user creates a tornado. Unfortunately, you need to be of Major level or higher for the spell to be of any effect. At the lesser level, it creates a tornado about as big your index finger. At the Major level the tornado can start to wreak more havoc, being about the size of a tornado that would occur on the east and west coast of the US.

Sandstorm: Uses the wind to kick up a sandstor. Length depends on the level, the higher the level, the longer it lasts.

Freezing Wind Tunnel: The same as the Wind Tunnel spell, but gives the attack a colder tint. Can only be used at the Major level. Any lower, and the Freezing Wind Tunnel will only have the same effect as a regular Wind Tunnel Spell.

Electric Pulse: Puts an electrical charge through the body. Anything touching the body will be electricuted, or badly burnt. The higher the level, the more powerful the jolt.

Lightning Strike: Calls down a bolt of lightning. The amount of damage can only be estimated, because each strike's power is different, and there isn't much accuracy. The higher the level, the more powerful the strike, and the more accurate.

Charge: Charges the weapon with electricity, giving the weapon a stun effect. The higher the level, the longer the stun.

Lightning Boost: Uses the power of Air to speed up movement, attack speed, and agility.
_____________

Height: 6`3"
Weight: 160 lbs.
Weapon: An unbelievably long 7-foot scythe. The The blade is curved and thin, while the wood that the blade is connected to is no thicker than the grip of a baseball bat.

Armor: A long, dark purple mantle, with hints of a blue tunic underneath.
Description: A tall man with long flowing blue hair, that seems in stark contrast to his dark purple cloak with blue markings. The scythe is often strapped to his back or in his left hand, his dominant one. His face is smooth and thin, yet his deep blue eyes seem to stare into one`s soul. He comes and goes as he pleases, walking silently and briskly, as if he has his own agenda.

Bio: Never seen without a smirk on his face, Avery`l enjoys playing mind games with people and taking the most roundabout route to solve problems. He comes from a high-society family, and entered into the Order under his own will when he was a child. He enjoys talented people, but has no time for loud or obnoxious ones, and will not hesitate to display his power if the need arises.
---------------

Molokidan is AWESOME for joining. AWESOME.

No major problems with your character, Molo. 'Cept his clothes would probably be mostly light blue or yellow (at the very least, a green tunic would be pretty taboo in the halls of the Order of Air). And nobody's a newcomer to any Order unless they're six years old, because that's the latest you can possibly join one.

Sweet, six characters. This is going to rule.
-_-_-_-_-_-_-_-_-_
