"What if?" Quite a question. Possibly the greatest question in spoken language. Case in point. What if we were to take a part of history and alter it, so it was totally different from what we know?
What if Locke, that incomparable treasure hunter, had actually been present when his beloved Rachel was in danger- and died in her stead? And what if, lacking Locke's capable help, Bannon had never evaded capture long enough to establish the returners?
What if, for example, Madonna had never stumbled into the world of Espers, and the Lady Terra had never been born?
What if the parents of the Fiagro had survived- and the Lords Edgar and Sabin perished of illness? What if the King had been so grieved he was willing to do anything on the condition his children were restored to him? And what if the Empire had offered him the power to return the dead- if the King would only help them find it?
What if those famous train robbers had never been caught? Or one parter killed instead of the other, so that the name Shadow would never become feared as anything more than something produced by the afternoon sun?
What if Cyan had never been born as a Doman retainer, or simply decided he didn't care for the lifestyle?
What if Gau's father had never snapped? Or his mother never died? What if he had never been abandoned?
What if Setzer had gambled his airship, and his life, on his ability to keep his prized possession out of the Empire's hands- and lost?
What if that moogle had never met that Sasquatch? Or never taken to breakdancing?
What if Straego had never challenged Hidon, or Realm ever cared to paint?
And what if Cid's greatest "creation", the magic knight Celes, had died in some meaningless squable as the Empire made a bid for power? And what if loosing the closest thing to a family that he had made Cid wake up and see the light? What if he left the Empire, and joined with some of those in Fiagro who dislike the new arrangement with the Empire, and formed a new sort of underground, joining technology with old fashioned determination and an evergrowing network of rebel cells?
And what if it was in the middle of this radically different world that Narshe unearthed Tritoch? As rebels, unwitting Imperial soldiers, and those who knew better converged on Narshe, with all the hapless people caught between, what part would you have played? What would you have done?
Perhaps we'll never know...

(First of all, if you don't like this, and think I'm butchering a great game, I don't wanna hear it. I know it already. >: Secondly, lay your character ideas on me! Anything FF style will work, but keep the setting of FF6 in mind. (IE, samurai are unlikely to walk around in full leather and ivory armor, but rather in something more lowkey and more modern. The game was more of a Sci-Fi fantasy than an old fasioned epic fantasy after all.) The exceptions are- magic users must be of the Straego or Realm type, and people with Blitzes will find their moves a little more in balance with the rest of the system than Sabin was. Please try to be original, and not directly rip off characters from the game. That is all, thankyouverymuch.) <p>

Dude, I am SO in on this. Freeform character creation in FF6 world? Sign me up!

My character idea:

Vance Daltzorne

Weapon/Ability: "Book of Legends." Vance is in possession of a legendary book that was long sealed away in a forgotten cave. This is a huge book that holds records of all the previous legendary weapons and items from the past. Vance is able to channel his energy through the book and produce the items for him to use. While there are about 1000 different weapons, Vance has just recently discovered this, and is a beginner, so he can only channel the most basic one so far, which produces a copy of a legendary sword (I can put Masamume, Ragnarok, whatever you think is kosher here.)

Limitations: While Vance gets all these legendary items, their power is not the same as the original. Also, while Vance is able to use these items, he is mostly a beginner in them, so he is not as skilled, as, say, a knight who has been using swords for years who picks up an Illumina. However, Vance does inherit a small amount of skills upon recieving said item.

If you think this is a bit too powerful or out there, I can always change. But I thought it'd be cool to have a guy pulling crazy stuff out of a big book. <p>---------------

Molo: Just saw your first post. I like the character idea, and his power is ammusing. However, keep in mind that any items he pulls out of the book will probably be only half the strength of the "true" versions of the weapons, at least at first. Now, get some other people to sign up. :( <p>

If a major character (such as General Leo, Kefka, ect) wasn't mentioned by name in the intro post, he's assumed to be the same as he was in the game. <p>

Ok, Character:

Name: Bosh Challinworth
Gender: Male
Weapon: Magitek Armor (More on that later...)
Description: Bosh is a cripple. He was crippled in a major accident, and so now lives in a modified suit of magitek armor. He would be five foot four if he could stand, but does carry himself proudly, chest held high, in his armor anyways. He has tousled brown hair and blue eyes, which contrasted each other quite strangely.
Bio: Bosh was formerly a soldier in the Empire's army, and was also a minor mechanic. He enjoyed fiddling with mechanics, and so often fiddled with the mechanics of his armor. He was actually a very skilled mechanic, who could probably conquer any mechanical problem, but he wanted to fight. One day, though, when he was playing with his armor, it fell on top of him, crushing his legs. From that day on, he was made into a mechanic, working only for the empire because they had said that they would find a way to fix his legs. For a few years afterward, he spent his time toiling over armor, trying to modify it to be more agile and strong. One day, though, he overheard his boss talking about him. He overheard that the empire had done this on purpose to force him to work for them. Bosh immediately because outraged and stole one of the prototype armors, running away to a small abandoned shack outside of South Figaro. Here, he finished modifying the armor. Now a days, he spends his time as a freelance mechanic, and as a mercenary for anyone fighting the empire.
Magitek armor: His modified armor does not have as many different beams as the originals, only fire, ice, lightning, and cure beams. It is, though, smalelr, morr agile, and has a bit more raw strength. It also has a small flip out blade (Kind of like the one Heavyarms has from Gundam Wing.)
