Shaking his head, the boy lightning gave a shrug. "I'm still a person, you know. Anyway, whatever, I'm bored. Are we doing something or what? We ought to find out more about this Envy and beat the snot out of her, yeah?"

Vi facepalmed, as Frenzy began to jump from foot to foot, chanting about wanting to do something. "Okay." Vi says after amoment. "We'll play a game."

"Oh," James said, "You know, we weren't really trying to take her scarf. You can tell her that. I mean, are you two gonna be okay?"

"Prize? Why does it always have to be a prize with you?" Vi says. "Okay...The prize is...A date with DJ."

---

DJ, working on some sound-related thing or the other, sneezes.

---

"Yeah, we'll...Be fine." Katey says. "She just...Needs some time."

Gene... drooped a bit, DJ? She was a freak! But! His honor was on stake!

"Okay, fine, whatever, what's the game? What do I have to do to win?"

"Whaaaaaat?" Gene was THIS close to throwing a fit, y'know!

"That's a babies' game for babies and stupid people!" He pouted, flippin' his arms around, like he was trying to uppercut the air.

"But... okay, fine. I'm game, I'm going to win this and..." he frowned slightly, "I'm just going to win this, ok?"

"You don't have to hide from me." Vi says. "You have to hide from Frenzy. And she can smell you."

"It's true!" Frenzy says. "I can smell all of you! ...You smell like burritos."

"...No..." Frenzy answers, confused.

"She's just got an amazingly sharp sense of smell." Vi says, turning her gaze towards Gene, almost threateningly. "Like a predator."

"Oh." Disappointed, Milton turned back to the wall he had been facing, and again his eyes glazed over. Reading a book, he'd called it before, and it seemed he didn't want to lose his page.

"Alright," James said, "but hey, if you guys ever want help or anything, you can always give me a shout." He felt he sounded pretty cool, so he puffed out his chest over so slightly. "Anyways, I'm going to go and try and find Gene and see what he's up to. You guys are welcome to come join me, if you want." James then walked off, wondering where he might find Gene. He decided the best way was to follow his ears.

Milton was lost to the world (such as it is), entrenched already in whatever it is he's staring at. It'd probably take some physical disturbance to roust him.

"An HOUR!?"

Gene huffed, "An hour's FOREVER! Geez, I could build a brick wall around Frenzy in that time... But fine, okay, whatever, I'll just find the best hiding place EVER!"

And so he did. As soon as he was done with these bozos, Gene scurried off to find the tallest, most out of reach place there WAS.

Mission: Chain of Command
Location: Exeter Briefing Room, somewhere near Mitiaro Island
March 12th, 3757
3:15 PM.

After some months of sitting around the ship, waiting for Vi to get her experiments and projects done, a mission has finally been called. The children of NEXT are to meet in the briefing room on board the Exeter at 3:30 sharp.

Already, the large, circular room has a few occupants- The twin Tagart sisters, along with Leon. The repairs on Gene's body are complete, as well, along with all the damage sustained by Envy's attack upon the ship. Now, it's just a matter of the other children filing in and having a seat at the large table that dominates the room.

James walked in, very eager to get back to missions. They'd been doing drills and basically loafing around for so long that he'd been going stir crazy. He'd even run out of pranks to play on Gene, although the pranks also got less fun when Gene started being able to get around on his own again.

James walked into the command room and took a look around, noticing the Taggart sisters as well, then walked over and sat next to Gene.

"Hey, you ready to go kick some more butt?" he asked, giving Gene a shove.

"DJ," Milton asked in an uncharacteristic display of cognizance of others' existence, "can I get access permissions past the parental controls level? I can't figure out what the room with all the water pipes is for, or how to really fix it!" The wrench in his hand making slightly more sense now.

"....poop?" Milton said, testing the sound of the word as he said it. Before anyone could get worried about him diving through search engines with this new entry to his practical vocabulary, he cocked his head and asked, "so can I reroute the water and make the room something useful for us?"

Gene had been giving James sour looks, he didn't appreciate the mocking... but to be honest he did enjoy James' company, so he'd just nodded trying to look like it wasn't bothering him.
But when they started talking about poop, he made a face and laughed in unison with the other boy.

"Maybe Milt tries to, maybe he forgets he can't do it anymore, huh?"

Eventually, Frenzy enters the room, sitting heavily in one of the chairs, followed by the obnoxious giggling boy and his larger friend. A few minutes later, Vi walks in.

She looks cross, even for her. She drops a heavy pile of books on the table with a loud BANG, and slams her fist against the wall, causing a panel to begin to rise, revealing a screen. She snaps her fingers, and a map of Deck City appears on it, for those familiar with it. Deck City is one of the largest in the world, and one of the most heavily populated. Considered to be one of the major commerce centers, the city is divided up into a central circle, where the corporate giant D-52's headquarters is, then a ring around that is the commercial district, then around that is the residential district. The entire city- And country of Mitiaro is run by D-52, and Vi stands silently for a moment before beginning.

"We're sneaking into the city." She spits out. "Because that's our mission. We're meeting up with MY commander, and then they'll be telling us where to go from there."

Clearly, Vi wasn't happy about losing her position as the Big Boss, even for a few minutes while the other children were in the presence of her boss. She leaned against the wall and glared at the attendance. "Questions?"

James stared at the screen blankly, mostly just seeing lines and dots all over the place, but something about what Vi had said made him raise his hand.

"Why do we have to sneak into the city? I mean, why aren't we just allowed to be there?"

Gene's face lit up like a tree of some sort of festive origin. Sneaking in. This was what he was bred for...

Well okay maybe he wasn't very good at sneaking, but a M I S S I O N! In a city no less!

"Oh man, this is gonna be awesome, ZOOM! You're all gonna see the living lightning-bolt in action, I'm a pro in all kinds of urnan terrain! Yep yep!"

He paused for a moment and sighed. "Urban... I know how it's spelled."

"Anyway, who're we meeting? Who's your commander? Come on Vi, tell us more, I'm itchin' to get back into the fight, yeah!"

"Yes ma'am!" Milton blurted reflexively. His job was to obey, not to understand--a principle which a number of his handlers had found to be a useful baseline during his training. He began to salute, and halfway realized that he couldn't straighten his hand because there was a wrench in it. With his staggering prowess at problem-solving, he dropped the wrench onto the table with a loud clang, and completed his salute.

James sighed. A covert mission meant that he probably wasn't going to be very much help. James was more of a battering ram than a lockpick, and he liked it like that. Direct was efficient, and way more fun. It usually involved more guns. Then he perked up when he realized that it was just a covert operation until someone like Gene messed things up. Then he was quite content to let Gene mess things up.

"Yeah, thank god we've finally got a mission. I was running out of video games to play."
