Let's go! Vas went for the other Tiziat behind Wisp. He spun, flinging up his half cloak into its face to confuse it, then spun his double-spears and did a stab towards the creatures left eye with his right hand and a slash at its throat with the other.

Arriving at the scene, Arenda first looked in Wispuna's direction and saw that Avri'l and Vas were already dealing with the two monsters behind her. Arenda instead targetted the closest Tiziat to herself, first pushing her shield into its face, then reaching around and stabbing at its throat with her sword.

HAH! NEW SUBJECT!

Unread postby Spleen » Tue Feb 01, 2005 6:06 pm

Tur'nasus's arrows finished off the scout that had appeared first, but missed the other two targets, one of which bounded for the trunk of her tree and scrambled up to face Tur'nasus on her own branch.

On the ground, Avry'l's attack went wide as the Tiziat lept to the left, but the point of the scythe blade managed to barely graze one of the creature's middle legs, causing it to freeze for a moment and accidentally tangle itself for a moment in its own six appendages. Before Avry'l could strike the final blow, though, he was pulled off-balance by another Tiziat swinging by its teeth from the Wind Guide's mantle.

Vas's target was only slightly confused by the pirouetting of the cloak, and was able to dodge the attack to its throat. However, its left eye quickly began to drip blood and whatever green fluid gave the sphere its color. It began to slink back as though giving up, but when it reached the trunk of the nearest tree, it kicked off and into the air with two pairs of muscled legs and aimed the claws of the front pair at Vas's head.

Arenda's attack proved more effective, and her sword plunged into the fleshy neck of the creature, missing the throat but lodging firmly between two bones of the spine. The creature's eyes went wide for a moment and then closed forever.

Jagen pulled his sword out of his opponent's shoulder, and turned the flat into the monster's face when it tried to jump for him and swung the sword, sending the creature sprawling into the dirt. It regained its footing and lept again, and this time bit down on steel as Jagen stopped the advance with his rapier. He kicked out as hard as he could, and the Tiziat was flung headlong into a stout tree trunk. It hit it at an angle and glanced off, spinning into the underbrush.

At this point, six Tiziat remained: one engaging Tur'nasus in the tree, one biting Avry'l's cloak, one trying to untangle its legs and get away from Avry'l, one trying to tear Vas's face off, one landing on the ground after getting kicked, and one slinking off for reinforcements. Maybe Wispuna will see the last one and do something about it?

Fair enough! Vas thought. He crouched down as the thing lunged for him. Just as it was about to hit, he hopped straight up and stabbed both of his double-spears down at the thing's spine as it sailed under him.

The force of Vasinis's attack bore the Tiziat into the dirt and left its back legs paralyzed and its midsection pinned. It growled feebly at the Gustohran, but it was already losing too much blood to continue the fight.

Vas twisted his spears as he tore them from the Tiziat's flesh, making sure to put it out of commission. He looked up from the corpse to see if any more Tiziat had appeared or if any of the others needed help.

Vas's roving eyes told him exactly what had been mentioned above: With the exception of the one lying bleeding at his feet, five Tiziat were still alive. Four were engaging his comerades, but all the skirmishes were heavily unbalanced toward the Laethans. The other was trying as hard as it could to get away and get reinforcements, despite having been half crippled by Wispuna's blowing it into a tree.

Vas inwardly smiled. It is good to know that my companions are so capable in battle. I am sure we will need it. With that he moved towards the limping Tiziat, gauging its reaction as he closed.

The Tiziat, for something half-cripped, was moving at a good clip (after all, having half its legs broken meant it was down to three, which is more than any human has). It sped up as it saw Vas approaching. Turning, it tried to climb a tree, but thought better of it and eventually stopped moving and started a shrill keening that would probably summon a few more of its friends in a pinch.

Upon removing her blade from the neck of the creature she had killed, Arenda chose as her next target the monster in the tree, close to Tur'nasus. Engaging her Flight, she sped towards the creature and thrust a hard upward stab at its underbelly as she drew near enough.

The monster saw Arenda coming and jumped - not away from Arenda, but over her sword and into her shoulder. It scrabbled for a hold in the leather of the breastplate, trying to dig its claws through and into the girl's shoulders.

Avry'l swerved his head in surprise at his "visitor", his eyes wide, his pupils like drill-bits.

"That was a mistake." he whispered, as he removed his left hand from his scythe, quickly flew it across his black belt under his cloak, coming out with a small butterfly knife, and came down, in hopes of impaling the creature through its forehead.

Arenda sank towards the ground a bit under the monster's weight. But despite that, she kept her head about her and, taking advantage of the fact that the monster was now in contact with her, let loose a Major Electric Pulse.

(OOC: In posting order...)

The wailing died along with the Tiziat, but the fruits of the monster's final labor bore fruit when two fresh monsters bounded from the underbrush and lept at chest and knee height at Vas, at a speed where it would be intensely difficult to block both attacks, even with Laethan superhuman reflexes.

Avry'l missed, not being able to get the proper angle to reach the monster's forehead. During all this, the monster Avry'l had knocked down before got up and went for the man's shins with a clawed forefoot.

The Tiziat that Arenda shocked was stunned by the sudden jolt of electricity and fell the six or seven feet to the ground, where it landed on its back with a thump. It lay there for several seconds before trying to get up.

Arenda followed the Tiziat to the ground, though she lowered herself at a more controlled rate than it had fallen. Upon landing, she knelt down beside the creature and took another stab at its underside.

Avry'l immediately dropped the butterfly knife and moved his hand back to his scythe.

He was preparing to jump back, and swing his scythe in an arc acround him, to push the creatures back and possibly hit them. If he was successful, THEN he'd think about how to attack them.

(OOC: Sorry, was busy with my other things, like life, so...)

TUr'nasus saw the creature come bolting up the tree, and lept back down, hoping to fire an arrow at the monster. When she saw Arenda come flyign up to meet it, she thought better of it. She landed on the group with a light thup, then looked around. At that moment, she saw the two devils that were launching themselves at Vas. She took a quick deep breath while getting down on one knee. She then pulled back the string, looked down the shaft of the arrow, and let fly one arrow at one of the beasties. The whole process took no more than a second or two.

(OOC: Dude, what life?

Also: POST THREE HUNDRED! WEE!)

The Tiziat aiming for Vas's legs hit the ground and skidded past him, then did an insane six-legged scramble in an attempt to turn itself to face his back.

As for the one that went for his chest, it took the arrow in the shoulder just before it hit Vas, and thus was distracted from the flesh-rending frenzy it expected to enter into. Instead, Vas got nearly thirty pounds of leathery monster in the pectorals at about twenty miles an hour.

Oh damn! Vas thought as he saw the monsters leap out from the underbrush. Time seemed to freeze as he thought of ways to get out of the situation. He knew he would be hit by at least one of them, no matter which way he dodged.

Out of the corner of his eye he saw Tur aiming her arrow at the one going for his chest. He prayed it would catch the thing midflight and stop it before it hit him, and leapt to the side to avoid the one coming at knee height. If Tur's arrow didn't catch the beast in the air, he was about to have a chest full of Tiziat.

Hah! Gotcha now beastie! Vas thought. Vas fell rolled onto his back as the beast hit him, keeping it's momentum going as he kicked it towards the nearest tree.

He kipped up and looked at the second Tiziat he had dodged.

"Lightning boost!" Vas yelled, as a bolt of lightning arced from the sky and hit the tip of his raised double-spear. He waited for the Tiziat to make its move.

(OOC Note: Vas's specialty when it comes to the Wind spells is his Lightning Boost; that is, he has put his studies of it ahead of the studies of all the other magics in the attempt to harness a more powerful form of the spell, since it amplifies his already excellent speed and agility. His wind tunnels are pathetic, his tornados and sandstorms couldn't do much damage to a rabbit, and all of his attack spells (charge, lightning, and electric pulse) don't work on the same level as other Gustohrans. The only spell that remains at the appropriate level for the rank of Gustohrans is his flight spell. Vas has taken much criticism about this in the past, but he believes that his Lightning Boost spell makes up for his shortcomings in the other magic fields.)

Having finished off her second enemy, Arenda took a look around the battlefield to assess the situation. Vas seemed to be holding his own, she thought, and Avry'l could probably deal with his two opponents as well. One loose end she did manage to notice, though, was the Tiziat that Jagen had knocked into the foliage earlier. Because it was fairly well hidden by the foliage, she almost missed it. But she didn't.

Drawing her sword back, she bolted for the creature and slashed at it upon gaining a close enough proximity.

One of Vas's enemies leapt for his abdomen, about as high as it could starting from standing still. The other ran around him, looking for someone else to fight.

Jagen, taking a breather and holding his wounded side, watched as Arenda nearly decapitated the injured monster. "Good shot, Arenda," he said politely, as he hefted his rapier and ran to engage the Tiziat that had ran from Vas. "Go help Avry'l," he said as he left.

Arenda's opponent stumbled, but rallied and raked at her legs with a claw.

Vas's target hit the ground in a heap and rolled a bit, bleeding from the gashes Vas had given it, still, though, it turned and, in a demonstration proving that Pavlov never saw a monster before, got a running start and jumped for his torso again.

Avry'l's remaining opponent, watching its target retreat, decided to change directions and leapt, jaws-first, for Arenda's thigh.

Arenda had expected her target to attack, but she had not expected Avry'l to retreat. As a result, the second Tiziat's attack surprised her. Without much time to think of a better plan, she swung the flat of her sword at her new attacker's jaws to knock them aside and avert their rending of the flesh of her leg. Unfortunately, she was unable to stop the first monster from raking her feet out from under her, sending her to the ground.

The second attacker was stunned before it could bite Arenda's leg, but the claws of the first, in addition to knocking her down, went through a layer or two of leather and scratched the Gustohran's skin, causing it to bleed slightly.

Jagen turned from his fight for a moment, and saw this. "AVRY'L!" he yelled, furious. "HELP HER!"

Annoyed, he ran up, targeting the one on top of Arenda, and went to skewer it, using his scythe like a golf club.

Arenda didn't let herself think about Avry'l's words, as now was not the time to be distracted by thoughts that weren't relevant to staying alive. For now, she concentrated on trying to get her shield between herself and the monster that had knocked her down, hoping that the scythe would take care of the monster that was on top of her.

The monster on top of Arenda was flung about three feet away with a gash in its side. It got to its feet and bared its fangs at Avry'l. The other one was successfully held off with the shield for long enough that Arenda was able to get to her feet.

After getting to her feet, Arenda glanced at the monster that had been on her to see whether it still had interest in her. Feeling safe with the belief that it had again changed its target, Arenda held her sword towards the monster that had knocked her down.

First, she circled around to put her target between herself and the other Tiziat. Then she struck forward with a quick stab.

Avry'l didn't waste another second, and dashed forward to the monster he had kicked off, preparing to skewer it across his scythe. He charged it with a bit of lightning magic, so that even if he didn't hit it head-on, he'd still shock it.

Vas side-stepped his attacker again. This time, however, as it was going by he stabbed his double-spears into the flesh just behind its head, letting the creatures momentum tear two huge slashes downs its right side. He once again stood there, waiting to see if the thing was finally down or if it was out of commission.
