Pat slung herself into the seat beside her companions, resisting the urge to curl one leg to her chest. Her ears flicked as she wrinkled her nose slightly.

She wondered if she could get a mohawk.

The dwarf seems good to his word, as he finishes giving Blunthor a trim within a minute. The Orc stands after the chair is lifted to a proper height, hands the dwarf a couple of rumpled bills, and begins to shuffle out.

"Right, who's up?" he says, as he looks to the three.

"Uh...Money?" Amelia thought, digging though her pockets, and finding several odds and ends- Mostly lint. "Not much...Why?"

"Well, I'll go first," Archie said cheerfully, heading over to the chair, "I'm basically after short back and sides and a bit off the top."

"Easy," says the dwarf, as he manipulates Archie into the seat. Within moments, the young man is reclined, with a towel about his neck and a plastic cover draped over him, and having his hair washed.

"So what brings you kids down this way? Don't get folks that ain't local often?"

All things considered, they really should have put a bit of thought into a cover story. The best he could do was improvise.

"We came out to see if we could check out some of the local architecture," he said, "Part of a class project." Now, had the building they'd been scoping out been architecturally interesting enough to justify a few questions about it?

Archie remembers the building seemed rather oldish, kinda like what one would expect in movies from twenty to fifty years ago. However, while he recalls some features that stand out, like those goofy waterspout overhang thingies that no one uses anymore, he is hard pressed to put it in words that sounds intelligent or geniune. Perhaps this is a downside of MAC being a military academy, and Archie never seriously taking an interest in architecture on his own.

Deciding not to risk speaking on a subject he didn't know much aout, Archie opted to stay fairly quiet through the haircut.

There are a few attempts at some banter from the Dwarf, which soon die out as he senses a lack of interest. Within aabout twenty minutes, Archie finds the plastic cover removed, and the dwarf saying, "That'll be eleven gil, and next!"

"I'm game," said Leo, as he walked up. "A short trim would be nice."

When all was ready, he'll be taking a seat, and pondering a course of conversation that would be useful to them.

Leo is quickly given the same treatment that Archie was. "So where do you kids go to school, anyhow?"

Crap. Pat had never given much thought to the cover story either, but...

"Dunno if you'd know it by name or not, but y'know the karaoke festival that was being advertised a bit back? On a college campus? That's the place."

That, Pat was confident, could cover their collective arses. She remembered thinking about going, but got sidetracked at the arcade.

"That so, eh?" says the barber, as his scissors go to work, "How're you kids takin' to being out this way? Hope the locals haven't been too hard on ya. Some folks got a lotta weight on their shoulders, and they're all to happy to fob it off on whoever gets close that don't look right."

"Well, may as well get going, then," Archie said, figuring that there was no way they could ask their questions without making the dwarf rather suspicious. He hopped up and headed out the door, holding it open for the others.

"Good man," The dwarf says, his eyes betraying the real meaning of his words.

It is about this moment the door to the back opens, and a human in rather shabby clothing shuffles out. He heads toward the door without a word.

Archie, for his part, simply remained standing holding the door open. He was beginning to feel ever so slightly silly looking. Thankfully, the dwarf, though he didn't seem to be taking Leo's forgetfulness for granted, seemed content to leave it at that.

While he waited for the others to make their way out, he directed som idle scrutiny on the new arrival.

Pat was starting to wonder if there had been a hidden voice option.

...well, that was assuming that they were able to talk to the dwarf with clear and visible multiple choice questions to choose from.

She shut the door carefully behind them as they left.

"Righty-o. Now, if we were a bunch of maniacs, where would we be?"

And thus do the three wander outside again. The options of the neighborhood are open to them once more. The man with the sunglasses on sits on the bench by the bus stop.

Whilst Leo and Archie are harumping and in general trying to figure out where to go, Pat can't help but wonder. It's getting pretty cloudy out, who would need shades now? They went out of style a decade ago, anyways. After all, people laughed when Kanto Games tried to Xtreme-up their main character in Rudy the Wombat in Dark City.

Man that game was dumb. What were they on?

****

Amelia and Rally are making their way from the Junkyard. Amelia is vaguely lost in thought as she walks on, and seems rather upset. That is her excuse for wandering under the magnetic crane as it carries its payload toward a junk pile. Who knows why Rally did so as well? Maybe she just wasn't thinking.

What a horrible time for the other brother's hand to slip to the magnet's off switch.

The last think Rally hears is a loud WONK! and everything goes black.

When she awakens, Rally finds herself in a hospital room. It takes her a moment to recognize it as the infirmary at MAC. And man does she ache. A quick inspection of herself
reveals no wounds nor broken bones; though she has been removed from her chair and this left more or less immobile unless she feels like dragging herself. No wounds that she can see. Just a dull general sort of ache of the parts of herself that can feel anything at all.

She thinks that she can hear a nurse moving about in the next room.

(OOC: I told you to post, Chuck. Several times. Why didn't you believe me? Also: Shini, Amelia's new location is up to you.)

Pat snorted to herself.

"Probably crack," she muttered, shaking her head of badly-designed wombat characters. Then she glanced at the figure.

If that guy's one of 'teh bad guyz', I'm going to cry. Or laugh. Or maybe just laugh until I cry. C'mon, shades?

Still, she kept an eye on that bloke.

"Lurking in our secret hideout plotting the downfall of the world order?" Archie suggested, only half in jest. While the bad guys weren't necessarily doing that, without some way of identifying them, they were pretty much at a dead end.

Amelia sat in the hospital, actually managing to keep her mouth shut (Despite how badly she wanted to declare that she could probably help each and every person. Supposed angelic heritage and all). She waited for news on Rally, or for the other people who were SUPPOSED to be working with her on this job to show up. Until then, she sat in her chair and wished she had brought something to play with in the meantime.

Or at least something to read.

"Bad-guy things," Pat said flippantly, stretching. "Though really, bad guys would at least send out low-level or mid-level bosses to do their dirty work for them, which also helps prep the heroes for the final confrontation. Unless you're a gimp and do one of the cheats."

"Well, DUH!" Pat said vehemently, voice rising with the fury of that exclamation. "I mean, we haven't been attacked by ninja or bumbling subvillains yet! Or even had a love triangle!"

She paused, then glanced between Archie and Leon.

A pregnant silence ensued.

"Though if neither of you mind, how 'bout we hold off on that last?"

"... Yeah. I think that'd be a good idea."

"Anyway, I don't really think there's anything more we'll be able to do here. We might as well head back."

Archie was willing to stick around if one of the others came up with some good reason to, but he thought it was about time to call it quits.
