The giantess nods in understanding, then composes herself.

"It's something of an embarassing story for us, you see. Recently, we've been working to develop a new artificial intelligence program. We had things well sorted and the boys were doing a cracking job. Then there was something of a problem...one of the boys turned out a mole."

She shakes her head. "The git went and ran off with the whole project. Deleted all the backup source code we had, and scuttled right off with the original. Now we're in a bind. We were able to do a bit of fact-checking, and we'll tracked the git down. Things get just a might sticky...you see, he's with a blasted terrorist organization; the Doma Absolutist Society or some rot."

She leans in a little closer to them now. "You're probably trying to figure out why the bugger we haven't gone to the police, I'd venture. Well, Doma does have something of a spot of ill repute in this sort of situation. Things tend to be kept as 'evidence' for months, then they 'reverse engineer' down the line. You can see what a nuisance it is.

"That's why we put a line out your way. We need you to get this back as quickly, and quietly, as possible. The chief designer should be on his way here now, so you can pop specific questions to him. In the meantime, I'd love to hear a spot about yourselves, and you can ask me what crosses your minds."

Many thoughts were swirling through the youth's mind. While they were quite varied, many of them could be put into the, "oh my god oh my god what do we do now?" category. While Leo wasn't sure what to expect, espionage involving terrorist organisations certainly wasn't on the list of possible opportunities he had cooked up.

Unsure of what to do, Leo remained quiet for the time being. He'd speak up after getting his berrings straight.

Pat blinked.

Then blinked again.

Then adjusted her tie.

"Whoa, no wonder y'didn't explain more on the forum," she commented, more to herself than anyone else. Even so, her heart had nearly skipped a beat—

Terrorist organizations?

Spies?

High-tech hijacking?

This sounds SO COOL! I mean, YEAH it might be tough, but SO FRIGGIN' COOL! It's like I'm in a fancy RPG! THIS IS SO COOL!

Hastily recollecting those wayward thoughts, Pat's cheeks flushed— partly with excitement, partly with nervousness. It was the same delicious anticipation she got when she was ready to take on the final boss in a game, where she was uncertain about her chances of winning, but feeling a confident rush nonetheless.

"You got stuff on this guy, then? So we can get a name, a location, some information so we can run our own checks?"

Ana didn't smile, but inside, she was satisfied. This is a bit more up my alley.

Aloud, she only said, "What could a terrorist organization do with an artificial intelligence program?"

Rally kind of giggled. "So I take it you're in, then?" She was kind of tickled by Pat's enthusiasm. But at the same time, she kind of shared it. I mean, it was all very nifty. Who would have thought she'd be involved in something like this?

She wasn't going to say it yet, but she was in as well...

Eliza listens to the questions, then answers. "I can give you everything we have on the sod, if you like. We think we know know where he buggered himself away, so we'll sort you with that.

"As for the project itself...it's a bit touchy. We were developing an AI that's better set than the current models to adapt to new tasks without too much help from people. If set to weapon systems, as dodgy sorts like terrorists might...well, I think you can see why it has us so brassed."

Pat's grin widened. She flashed a thumbs up at Rally and a wink.

"You betcha, hon," she replied flippantly to the nekojin before turning her attention back to the giantess.

"Sounds good. Also, any sort of deadline you're hoping for? I figure the sooner the better, but nice to know if something's coming up the line if we don't hop."

Archie took in the information quietly. AI had long been considered the pinnacle for anybody to aspire to. He could certainly understand their drive to get 'the project' back. Still, a few things didn't quite seem to add up. He decided to ask what amounted to the big question.

"Why us? I'm sure there are several security firms which specialise in this kind of thing."

"T...T...T-t...Terrorist..."

Amelia simply stuttered about terrorist plots, evil doings, and various misdeeds whilst looking off into space. Seems she was in her own little world at the prospect of being able to help someone deal with such things.

It's going to be a VERY good day! She thought to herself.

Eliza chuckles a bit.

"I was fancy one of you would ask that; sharp thing to wonder. There's a bit of the problem with the home office and funding. Dratted nuisance, really.

"And I see you're quite stoked," she adds, looking Pat's way. "Getting it back as soon as possible is ace. Within a week, I should imagine."

His curiousity getting the better of him, Leo began to speak up. While he could understand how the AI would be useful to...well, any organisation of the sort, he was still in the dark about this particular terrorist group.

"What is the Doman Absolutist Front, anyways?"

*Legislates you to death*

Unread postby Uncle Pervy » Wed Oct 06, 2004 6:55 pm

"Bugger if I know what they're on about," Eliza says. "Some rubbish about returning the state to absolute rule, I gather. I'd venture they mean their own."

The door opens behind the group, those looking back will be treated to a sight of an ugly green humanoid, a bit smaller than a dwarf, dressed in disheveled clothing with bright and clashing colors. In his hand in a walking stick, carved to look something like a bone. A nametag, serving as an isle of white amidst the multi-colored riot of his shirt, proclaims his name as Brom Sturmgeist.

The goblin strides into the office with an odd rolling gait, showing that his walking stick seems to be entirely for show. Glancing at the group, he then turns his gaze to Eliza and speaking in a rough, gravelling sort of voice.

"Right, We and I done got ourselves up here, Biggun. These bunch da ones ya gonna send after Kitty?"

Eliza visibly bristles. "Will you stop calling that?!" Her voice, when raised, is a bit loud.

"Fine, fine, Bosslady," Brom says, as he goes back to looking at the group with a bit of skepticism on his face, "Them pencil finally give ya the dough to get good help, or are we and I gonna have t' go let 'em have a talk wit' grampy bone?" He shifts his grip on his walking stick, holding it more like a bludgeon now.

Eliza massages her forehead and seems to stifle an exasperated sigh. "I assure you, Brom, that we're doing our best." Then she looks to the group again, and smiles. "This is Brom Sturmgeist, our chief developer on Artificial Intelligence team. I imagine he can answer any questions you have in that regard."

"...And then Grampy Bone...Wait, what?" Amelia shook her head for a minute, snapping out of her trance. "Grampy bone? Who's that?" Amelia again turned a bit red, hoping she didn't say something out loud when she didn't mean to.

Archie had been back to listening for a few moments. He'd been curious to know who the Doman Absolutionist Front were himself. Aside from the question of 'absolute what, exactly?' he was still in the dark, though. Somehow, he doubted they meant absolute rule by the present monarch.

Despite his reservations about the whole business, it seemed likely that he'd be drawn along for the ride by the more enthusiastic members of the group.

Another question presented itself, "Kitty?"

Rally would interject, but she was using every faculty at her disposal to decipher the thick-accented words being hurled at her.

"You'd fit 'er right a petabyte, mon," Brom says, seeming to ignore Rally. "But I'm gonna make a deal wit'cha. Get me back my Kitty, and I'll make ya somethin' good. Not just a copy, I want da real thing. Ya dig me? She got her own little system, we hook it up t things t' work. Copies, mon, that like a copy of you. We and I be wantin' my Kitty, not a Kitty. But if ya can't do that...I takes what I can get."

As Brom talks, Eliza looks to Leopold and says, "We've snagged where we think they're hiding, but just getting that was a little miracle."

Pat simply ignored Amelia.

"Kitty, huh? Anything special to look for? Or is it— she—"

With a name like 'Kitty', Pat's instincts were to refer to it as either a cute and fluffy distant relative or a similarly cute and darling female.

"Or is— uh, Kitty nicely labeled and everything for when we recover her?"

Eliza gave Amelia an odd look.

"Ya don't got much upstairs, do ya mon?" Brom says. Then he turns his attention to Pat.

"Now, Kitty got her own system, mon. Little tower, got its screen an' imput, ya? Nice an' white, we and I made it so she can groove into any system. Dun have no markin's, Kitty not like 'em. Now, when ya find 'er, say dis to her. Zero One Zero Zero Zero Zero One Zero Zero One One One Zero Zero One Zero Zero One One Zero One..."

And Brom continues, naming off numbers almost too fast for them to be heard; let alone at a pace for any of them with any knowledge binary to begin to translate. Finally, he comes to an end. "An' dat'll tell 'er ya wit' us."

"....could you write that down?" a slightly bewildered Pat replied to Brom. "It's kinda long to remember."

Then she thought for a bit, and glanced at the goblin again.

"So once Kitty knows we're with you guys, she detaches and is able to come along? And if she's got her own.... hardware—" Pat somehow doubted that saying 'thingamajig' was going to be impressive, and no serious RPG heroine would EVER say something so silly (at least in public), "—we won't have to worry much about her being copied over by 'em, will we?"

Archie was a tad surprised, though in hindsight, he knew he shouldn't have been. He'd been subconsciously expecting something a bit more mobile than an ordinary old tower unit, though he knew that such things still lay quite some distance in the future.

It was nice to hear that someone had a plan. He didn't have the first idea where to begin. Sure, this was one of the things that they trained for, but theory and practice were two entirely different creatures.

Unread postby Zemyla » Fri Oct 08, 2004 11:18 am

Ana, having gotten their attention, started detailing the plan. "Well, it's a little sketchy at this point, but basically what is going to happen is that we are going to have one person 'recruited' by the terrorists. That person will let us in, at which point one or two of us will actually go after Kitty, and one will watch the security system and tell us if we've been made. The others will be outside in battlesuits to serve as a distraction at the proper time. If it turns out that we can't get a recruit into where Kitty is held, then we'll have to break in the old-fashioned way. Like I said, the details are going to depend on where Kitty is being held."

She then asked Eliza, "Where is that, exactly?"

Eliza was busy typing away at her computer. "Queuing up a map for you," she says. After a moment, she stops and turns the Monitor so the group can see; if they stand up so that they are chin level with her desk.

Those familiar with the city are able to quickly place the location within the rundown parts of town. It's in what seems to be a rundown but populated neighborhood.

"The pratts have holed themselves up in an old office flat, by the looks of it. I'd venture its not quite as rundown on the inside."

"The first thing to do, I think," Archie said, studying the map, "Is some reconnaisance. Find out all we can about the building's layout, and how well they've got it guarded. Someone should also see if the academy has any files on the Absolutionists." That seemed the best place to go to find out about their foes. If the academy didn't have anything, it was unlikely that anywhere else they could ask would.

"We should also," he said firmly, "Abandon the idea of trying to get someone on the inside. I doubt that any of us could pull off that kind of deception, and failing would be a good way to get ourselves killed."

If there was one thing he was certain of, it was that this was no game. He wanted all of them to get out of this alive. And the best way to do that was to slip in and out without being noticed.
