Pete grumbled. He had not idea what Haggus was, but he was pretty sure that was not what his brain was made out of. He raised his hands in fists, looking rather angrily at the smug Scostman.

"You want me to prove myself, ya cross-dressin' freak? Put down your sword and I'll prove myself to ya..."

Trying to kill eachother ALREADY?

Jarvik gave Autumn an odd look, as if he was expecting she was pulling his leg, then subsided.

"I'll take your word for it. To survive in it, you must be stronger than you look."

Saying so, he stopped suddenly, crouching and then digging into the snow, finally finding a large grate. With a slight grunt, he heaved it upwards, snow cascading off its sides. Now that it was off, it exposed a simple stone stairway leading downwards. Oddly enough, no snow was on the steps, though the grate wasn't tight enough for it to prevent the passage of snow.

"Hurry in," he said impatiently.

August didn't waste any time following Jarvik's instructions. Hopefully it'd be a bit warmer down there. This still left the question of what she was going to do next. It wasn't like she'd planned for this.

Somewhere around here there had to be someone who'd know how to get her home. Jarvik didn't seem to be much help in that regard, though he was an okay sort once you got used to the gruff manner and the whole ice giant thing.

Not if I can help it, dammit!

"As much as I enjoy a good fistfight or two, I think we'd be better off working together than beating the pulp out of one another." Nate folded his arms across his chest and glowered at the cowboy and the scottsman like they were his younger sister, getting herself into trouble again. "As I see it, we're all out of place here, which probably means we'll all be needed to put things to right. Of course, I don't think we'll accomplish much just standing around here."

Jarvik hurried in after Autumn, setting the grate over them as he breathed a sigh that sounded somewhat like relief. He brushed his hands together briskly, and Autumn noted that his hands appeared to be more translucent than they had been previously— like glass, almost.

Now that they were below ground, Autumn noted that the chill was much less pronounced, although it still wasn't comfortable, by any means.

They were in a room with smoothly chiseled walls of stone, on which were pictograms of upright lizards, who appeared to be venerating an immense flame and some elaborate pictograms of skulls. A dizzying array of corridors branched out from the room, and a dusty, reptilian musk permeated the air. Each of the hallways was built far too small for Jarvik, and presumably the others of his kind, unless he were to crawl. However, they were still large enough for Autumn to pass through without worry.

"These are the halls of the Scaled Ones," Jarvik said quietly. "They required heat as well, so their quarters should be somewhat more comfortable for you until I can contact my own people."

"I think I alrea'y 'ave given ya a wee hint as to the fact tha' I understan' ya'." he said, raising an eyebrow.

"Now wha' do ye' propose we do, should tha' o'ers no' speak english?" he finished, resting his hands on the pommel of his claymore.

"Maybe we should be worried about the fact that we're in a cave made of ice with no food except that."

Pete motions toward the gigantic dead thing a few feet away. He had no qualms about eating something he didn't know the name of, and was starting to be hungry. Kind of skipped breakfast, with the whole passing out and waking up in a different world thing.

Daevon watched Pete gesture to the dead demon creature.

"Are ye crazy? Tha' thing coul' be dang'rus ta ea'!" he said, looking a bit dismayed that anyone could even think of eating something like that.

"Unlike ye, pansy, I trav'l wi't provis'ns. Though, t'ain't 'nough fer all o' us. Ne'er figured on wakin' up in a nest o' demons wi't a bunch o' strang'rs." he said as he stretched back slightly, removing one of his hands from the pommel of his claymore.

Jarvik nodded.

"Watch out for the frost drakes, though— they are fairly large, and shouldn't be able to access any of the smaller tunnels, but a hatchling or two might creep by. If so, avoid their breath attacks, and a few good smacks on the snout should clear them out."

He was stretching, limbering up his immense arms as he glanced upwards at the grate again in distaste.

"I'll also send the Bone Witch to check on you. She is more than slightly mad, I believe, but I think you would be interested in talking to eachother."

He stood, preparing to exit again; if August had any more questions, she should best ask them now before he left.

Two questions warred for supremacy in August's head. 'Frost Drakes?' and 'more than slightly mad?' In the end, a third question won out, related to the other two, but a little more likely to receive a definite answer.

"How long are you likely to be?"

"Less than a half-day," Jarvik replied. "I'll admit that this area is a bit out of the main territory of the Frost, but the nearest outpost shouldn't take that long for me to reach, and then a runner can take it from there."

He crouched, and began pushing up against the grate again, grunting slightly once more. Now from this lower vantage, Autumn had a better view of why he seemed to dislike this task; the grate began glowing red as he touched it, and parts of his skin steamed slightly, turning crystalline.

This didn't take too long, though, and he was soon on the surface again, setting the grate back in place and leaving Autumn on her own in the cavern.

"I agree wi't tha paranoi'd me'al man. We shou'l ge' moving. We dun' wan'nna stick around 'ere wi't this thing." he said, gesturing to the dead thing. He then continued.

"Wha' if there be more of them beasties? Ya think they'll like th' idea o' havin' one o' their own killed? The smell o' death may attract 'em." he ended with a slight growling tone, as if he was wishing for another one of the beasts to appear, so he could hack it to bits.

"I agree." Nate nodded, looking at Rodrick as he did. "However, we're gonna have to find some way to convince our German friend that he'd be best off to come with us... Of course, this also raises the question of which way to go? Back the way we came, or from the direction you came from?" The second question was clearly directed at the Scottsman.

Just in review for the testosterone-laden group from many times and places (in other words, at the location not containing August Rook!)... To the north was a dark gray door with carvings of upright lizard over it. This was where Rodrick had come from. To the east and west were what appeared to be walls, but they knew they had passed through, and were illusionary. To the south was where their overgrown lizard friend had come from, since Balliol had partially opened the immense door.

With Jarvik gone, August decided to explore her surroundings a bit more. It really wouldn't be a good idea to be confronted by one of these Frost Drakes and have nowhere to run. Taking care to keep track of her route, August started down one of the corridors.

The corridor she went down was simple, and as she went down it she could see where it connected to other tunnels as it branched. It continued straight ahead of her for a ways, if she chose not to look at the other tunnels.

Rodrick heard the discussion going on, but couldn't understand it. He wondered if he should try going elsewhere. Then he decided that staying with the group would probably be a more prudent option. If only he could understand what they were saying...

Dear God, Heavenly Father, my fate is in your hands. Amen.

After that, he felt somewhat better.

(EDIT: Thanks, Lys, for correcting a continuity error! :D)

August peered down each of the tunnels in turn as she continued down the main passage, partly out of curiosity, partly to make sure there wasn't anything large and Drake-like lurking in them.

Fortunately for August, there was no such problem as she continued down.

She reached the end of the passage. In front of her was an immense wooden door, and to both sides were dark passages. An empty torch sconce was on the wall of the right passage, while the one to the left was bare.

The door opened inwards with a groaning sound, and as August looked through she could see a large room with a tall ceiling, the floor sprinkled with the bones of small mammals. Large, arched pathways led to the left and right within the room, while directly across from her she could see another large doorway. A large frost drake was halfway in it, as the door was partially open.

* * *

And with our testosterone-laden party, they could hear the groaning of an opening door drifting to them.

Hearing the faint groaning of a door, Daevon's slightly relaxed head shot up like lightning. His hands grabbed his claymore raising it offensively in the direction of the door.

"Hush! I 'though' I 'eard somethin. I's comin' th's way." he hissed between clenched teeth.

He moved stealthily towards the partially opened door, and the supposedly dead demon creature. Daevon eyed it in suspicion for a moment, then crouched beside it, sword ready to dispatch whatever came through the door.

((OOC: Paranoied, ain't he? :D?))

August froze, then very, very quietly set about closing the door again. Inch by inch, the door edged shut as she prayed that the creature hadn't seen her.

That wasn't entirely all that August did, although her other action wasn't in the least bit conscious. The large frost drake acquired a similarly large, frilly pink ribbon of the sort no self-respecting animal would be caught dead in tied in a neat bow about its neck.

Nate, for his part, did the dumbest thing he was capable of at the moment. He rushed towards the sound, keeping on his toes, and glanced at the beast that had been killed only recently. And then he took a closer look.

OK, I'm pretty sure that thing did NOT have a ribbon around its neck when we killed it...

Without saying anything to his new 'friends', Nate crept forward and cautiously reached up and felt the ribbon. It was real enough. He then looked around the room slowly, trying to spot anything out of place. At the same time he announced. "What. The. Hell."

He heard only echos.

Ieyasu followed Pete, partly out of concern that his new-found ally was about to get himself killed, and partly because he was tired of waiting for these devils. He also saw the pretty pink bow around the Drake's neck.

"What manner of demon are we dealing with here...?" he muttered quietly.

The door was chill against August's back, though only silence surrounded her now. If she wished to move, she could either retreat back the way she came, or go to the left or right.

* * *

The men were still facing a dead lizard with a beautiful pink satin ribbon about its neck. Nothing else appeared, but as the echoes died away, an eerie silence grew.

* * *

Suddenly though, throughout the entire underground area, a rattling sound could be heard, by both parties. It was dry and brittle, crackling slightly like ancient dice. With the echoes, it was difficult to tell where it was coming, though it seemed to be amplifying.

Rodrick, startled first by the appearance of the pink bow and the rattling sound, pulled out his mace and stood ready. Though you couldn't tell, he was worried. He worried about the people who spoke a strange language, he worried about what sort of creatures might still be lurking here, and he worried that his immortal soul might be in peril. He said a quick prayer to God, and he felt somewhat better.
