Jeremy and Alice had arrived at the resort town about a week ago.
The two had gotten back from their excursion to Rakar Desert on the Brigidane, as they had arrived. This time, though, they were accompanied by a few more allies who had joined them there...
Excal. Jeremy was already used to the temprature of the water in the lake, but he shivered anyway. Somehow he'd ended up running into Excal Irus Burned again - but ended up on the same side this time. But there weren't many battles left when the two adventuring parties in Rakar decided to join forces - the spirit of the master psionist, Feru Rakar, had wanted only to face Reako.
But they had all made it back, and gone their seperate ways - Jeremy managed to pay Reako back for buying his tickets for the Brigidane, by selling off a collector's coin which he had found in Feru's temple.
Jeremy shivered again. The surreal experience where he had gotten that coin was... disconcerting.
Jeremy had had no idea where to go after getting back from the desert. Alice had also followed carefully again (avoiding the need for her own ticket by acting as a waitress at the ship's bar - and trapping Jeremy there every time he went in), so he had little relief from her constant.... tempting.
Already publically embarassed enough by half the other things that had happened to him so far, Jeremy didn't spend too long in Caymus Harbor, where the Brigidane had docked. He wandered aimlessly, avoiding (and occasinoally confronting) hostile kobolds and isolationst elves that objected to his presence.
Later Jeremy discovered that Alice had found her own collectable treasure in Feru's temple; something that looked like a centimeter-thick grey box, with a large sticker on the front reading "ADV Zero."
Jeremy and Alice found out that it was a very rare game - in fact, the only remaining one of its kind - and that a fanatical collector, desprate for the copy, was residing in Cleft...
After another hectic journey to get to the town, the collector proved more than ready to pay a superb price for the 'cartrage,' as he called it.
Jeremy thanked him and started to wonder what the money could be used for, but Alice had her own plans.
It was her money anyway, she argued, and they needed a break anyway, why not get some swimsuits and rent a hotel room and just relax for a while... she was interested in doing a little tanning, as well.
Jeremy wasn't entirely comfortable with this, but he had had enough running around fending off inexplicably aggressive monsters for a while. He agreed to it, saying that he might as well spend some time practicing his underwater martial arts skills. Alice seemed slightly disappointed about this, but that's how it turned out.
----
Which explained why Jeremy was hovering near the bottom of the lake, pondering silently as he practiced adapting to the different gravity and physics that being underwater offered. And working on how long he could hold his breath, but that wasn't the point.
Alice had spent her money on a surprisingly expensive (and appropriately revealing) swimsuit, along with a rather cheap two-person 'honeymoon suite' at the hotel.
Jeremy preferred to spend what little money he'd received from skirmishes on the way here on a cheaper, seperate room.
Alice had also bought a jumprope with the gold from the 'cardridge.' Jeremy had no idea why.
Ah, a corner of his mind reminded him, But are you sure you really WANT to know why?
A valid point.
Jeremy kicked one foot down, propelling him upwards in the water, and did a backflip-kick, looking mildly impressive, but slowed by the water.
He stopped suddenly after the kick. Time for another breath. Low on air again.
The lesser psionist quickly swam back up to the surface of the water, and shot his head up into the air, taking a deep breath, thinking, Not bad, I'm up to maybe two minutes now...
He glanced at the crowds near the beach, which seemed to have grown since the last time he came up.
And he froze.
Excal was there. Jeremy no longer jibbered like an idiot whenever he saw the vetran, but it was still surprising to see him. Noticing the strangest details in his stunned stupor, the psionist saw the faint trace of lipstick on Excal's cheek.
Alice was lying on the beach nearby, covered only by her swimsuit (as had been the usual, the last few days). She saw Jeremy coming up again, and waved wildly at him.
The psionist carefully looked away. Which was probably a bad thing, since then he saw Reako.
Now Jeremy REALLY froze up. He stopped treading water and slowly started to sink back underwater.
I'm jinxed.

Alice giggled. "Silly Jerry-chan."
Too bad he isn't doing that while getting a nosebleed...
