Pelm folded her wings gracefully, and sat beside him.

"Don't worry; even 'I' could recognize you from that... your face is as close as I can remember. And you will be able to atone for what you've done, and get yourself your body back... just as we killed him, we can banish his effects on you, I'm sure of it!"

Smiling from one side of her mouth, she said quietly, "And he's not my master. Master helped kill Antharius, too." She looked down. "Both of my masters helped us kill Antharius."

(OOC: Not exactly how it happened, but it'll do for drama's sake. 'Night!)

Unlikely sources of reason!

Bob had gotten dressed in his normal wear and was about to meet this robot head-on as he opened the door.
"Alright! You had better have a damn good reason for teleporting into our bedroom when my wife and I are trying to have a private moment. And it better not involve beep kill destroy.... Hey wait a second I know you..."
Mae was not too far behind Bob, holding a futuristic looking rifle while wearing a green shirt and green shorts she had quickly put on...

Meanwhile at the market,

The small crowd had grown quite large. It wasn't everyday you saw a battle between a demon hunter and an angelic figure, and it sure wasn't in the travel brochures! Some of the people had even started taking bets on who would win, cheering their prospective combatant on.

The local authorities were trying and failing miserably to part the crowd, when the crowd seemed to shift as someone walked past them towards the center, where the two combatants were.

That person was Natalia. She had told Jeanine to stay inside of a little cafe just a few feet from the crowd, as she headed into harms way some would say. However it seemed the action had died down some.

"Alright, both of you that's enough of that. I'm sure whatever problems you two have, you can resolve over a cup of coffee or ale or what have you. Besides, she doesn't look like a demon to me, and I've SEEN some horrifying ones in my lifetime." said Natalia compassionately. "Besides, if you two are going to continue fighting then have the common decency to take it out of town. People could have gotten hurt, sheesh. Now if you'll excuse me, everyone! Show's over! Go off and what not."

Natalia said this as the crowd had already started to shrinken once the fighting had started coming to an end...

"Now if you'll excuse me, I have a little girl that I should get back to." She said this partially gleefully as she went off to fetch Jeanine.

*He approaches the group near the robot, slowly.*

"Wait... What? You know this thing? Or is it properly a person? I'm sorry... I'm just a scholar of sorts, and I've never seen anything like this."

I don't think... Unless that THING was similar...

*He sighs slightly*

I never did get to study it...

His voice was electronic sounding, and deep in tone.

"Yes, you do. I had you do some work on myself a while ago."

He spotted Mae with the gun, and immediately assessed the threat.

Gun type: Laser. Power level: high.

Threat level: Moderate, high if continually exposed

"It was not my intent to appear in anyone's bedroom, but circumstances were beyond my control. I had less than ten seconds to get out of where I was, and onto this planet. You have my apologies. I have no will to fight you, but if your wife opens fire on me again, I will return the favour, tenfold."

Indeed, the rail gun in his arm had been powered up and was ready to fire at a moment's notice. He hadn't made any hostile moves, however. He knew Bob, and chances were good that they'd get this sorted out real quick.

"Mae...", Bob whispered gruffly.

"Fine fine I guess I'll forgive this intrusion." Mae sighed as she powered off the rifle.

Bob broke the moment of silence with the question,"Hey... didn't I install mandibles on you last time?"

As Bob asked this, Mae noticed a couple of people coming to check the commotion...
...

"Jeanine... that was an ahem, stretch even for me. Normally I'M the one usually causing trouble. Say how about we go to the lake?" Natalia sighed as she led little Jeanine to the lake, when she noticed a familiar person in the crowd...

Seeing the power signatures from the rifle fade and disappear, the robot powered down his own weapons, saving himself about 90% of his total current power usage. Not that it mattered. If there was one thing he had learned from his travels it was that there were bars everywhere, and the tenders could usually be "coerced" into giving free drinks.

"You did, yes. They were torn off, though, in a battle against an unidentified creature. They didn't work as well as my simulations predicted they should have anyway. No fault of yours, I'm sure."

Into the crowd

Unread postby Excaliburned » Tue Apr 15, 2003 1:37 am

Trying to find a disturbance in the middle of your average day is never all that difficult. Your average person, at least those without their self-preservation instinct kicking in, will be drawn to it like a moth to the flame. Of course, reaching it is somewhat more difficult, especially if you don't want to draw the attention of whatever it is you're trying to see. After all, the same idiots that group around it, letting you know where it is, also get in your way and resent anyone trying to budge in front of them unless they're an obvious threat; and sometimes not even then.

So, Excal was having some slow going as he tried to work his way through the crowd. But, with a bit of persistance and a fair bit of time he managed to work his way through to the forefront of the crowd, only to discover that the 'hellspawn' had already been dealt with. Not terribly surprised, he looked over the scene to see a man and a woman with white wings apparently talking. He figured the woman must have started the panic, but cooler heads had since prevailed, and he hoped nothing more would come of this. Shaking his head, he turned to head off to his hotel and take a final look around. All he really noticed on a cursory glance as he walked off was a hole in one of the buildings he initially dismissed as collateral damage from the battle. But that explaination felt wrong. He turned and gave it another look, and he couldn't shake the feeling that that hole had to have been made from the inside.

His curiosity piqued as he noticed that little discrepancy. He took a closer look around in order to make sure he wasn't missing anything else. Soon enough, he spotted one other thing out of the ordinary. A woman with a child appeared to be looking at him, and recognising him. He couldn't really place her, but he was interested as to why someone here might recognise him. Figuring it was probably just a case of mistaken identity, he walked over that way, planning to press her a bit for details about what had gone on here, and then be back on his buisness.

At the villa...
"You know, there was a warranty on those mandibiles. You can still stop by the shop and have them re-installed if you want." Bob said lightheartedly as he has just begun to notice the recent gathering of people. Among them someone he himself recognized. "Oh great, he's here too...", Bob whispered to himself...

***
Back at the market
"Excal is that you?" Natalia ran up to him to get a much better look. "It IS you! I haven't seen you come in to the shop in ages!" Natalia circled around him a bit. "Hm, when was the last time we met..."

"<span style="color:maroon;">Oh well, that's all fine and dandy then. Guess I won't need to kill you.</span>" He smiled at her, the smile seemed a bit too sudden to be real, although it looked real enough.

"<span style="color:maroon;">I'm finished at this "market",</span>" He leaned close to Pelm, "<span style="color:maroon;">more like a usury if you ask me,</span>" He whispered, "<span style="color:maroon;">And if I may, I'd like to invite you to share a ice-cream cone with me, it's on my tab.</span>" He noticed her surprised look. Excal blinked a bit at that, she did look familiar, but it was hard to see the connection at the moment. He tried to think of which stores he had been to, but none of them were important enough that he'd remember the help, or that the help would remember him. Though, she did remind him of Bob a bit... And that brought a name back with it.

"Natalia? You're right, it's been a while, but I don't think I've been keeping track of how long it's been."

Excal stopped here, trying to figure out what to do now that his plans had been horribly waylaid by actually knowing the person who had seemed to know him. Thinking for a bit, he decided the best course of action would simply be to press forward.

"So... What brings you here? I doubt Bob pays for vacations here, especially with a little rugrat likeher."

Girvyn pondered for a moment. On one hand, he the situation seemed settled, and he really had nothing to do with it, maening that he should probably move along. On the other hand, there was a malicious looking metal monstrosity having a dandy little conversation over at the house with the people who just launched the thing out of the building. Curiosity getting the better of him, Girvyn began slowly meandering towards the house.

Villa first:

"Ugh, yeah we had a little "misunderstanding" that's all." Bob said as Mae muttered under her breath "The dangers of travel by teleporting... "

"Anyway I'm sure our robotic friend here has some business to attend to... unless robots actually go on vacation." Bob shrugged. "So you don't have to go ultima happy now Reako. OKAY?!?", yelled Bob.

"I'm going to go by the lake and maybe try and read a book in peace or do something to calm me down." Mae blurted this as she left with a blanket in hand as well as a book under her other arm...

Market:

Everything seemed to be getting back to normal now...

"Bob brought all of us here on vacation. And I think it's mostly because of Jeanine here" Natalia said as she kneeled down and put her arms around Jeanine. "She's very special and has a connection with music like someone I'm sure you know. Besides, I'm in charge of watching her. " Natalia began to rise back to her feet again, " Well it's funny seeing you here, guess you came for a vacation as well huh?" A mischevious smile came to Natalia's face. "You know there was one thing I would have hoped you had remembered me by from the last time you were in the shop..." Natalia said this coyly as she leaned close to Excal. "I think it went something like this!"

As soon as she had said that Excal had found himself with Natalia's arms around him, kissing him again THEN grabbing little Jeanine, carrying her on her back and running to the lake while waving back at the still stunned Excal.

Somehow, I'm surprised I didn't remember that too... Excal thought somewhat bitterly as he tried to retain some tatters of dignity. Seeing not much going on, and having very little desire to be near Natalia again, he considered heading back to his hotel room. But, on another quick look, he spotted Bob, Maestro, Reako, and some sort of mech over by the villa with a hole in it.

Surprise, surprise. Who else would have such a stylish gaping hole in their villa but Bob. My room may be nice, but this ought to be interesting as well...

And with that decided, he found a nearby cafe to sit back at, watch, have a little something to drink, and ponder a bit about that girl Natalia had with her. Getting comfortable, he flagger a waiter...

Overexplanatory continuity glue stuff ahoy!

Jeremy and Alice had arrived at the resort town about a week ago.

The two had gotten back from their excursion to Rakar Desert on the Brigidane, as they had arrived. This time, though, they were accompanied by a few more allies who had joined them there...

Excal. Jeremy was already used to the temprature of the water in the lake, but he shivered anyway. Somehow he'd ended up running into Excal Irus Burned again - but ended up on the same side this time. But there weren't many battles left when the two adventuring parties in Rakar decided to join forces - the spirit of the master psionist, Feru Rakar, had wanted only to face Reako.

But they had all made it back, and gone their seperate ways - Jeremy managed to pay Reako back for buying his tickets for the Brigidane, by selling off a collector's coin which he had found in Feru's temple.

Jeremy shivered again. The surreal experience where he had gotten that coin was... disconcerting.

Jeremy had had no idea where to go after getting back from the desert. Alice had also followed carefully again (avoiding the need for her own ticket by acting as a waitress at the ship's bar - and trapping Jeremy there every time he went in), so he had little relief from her constant.... tempting.

Already publically embarassed enough by half the other things that had happened to him so far, Jeremy didn't spend too long in Caymus Harbor, where the Brigidane had docked. He wandered aimlessly, avoiding (and occasinoally confronting) hostile kobolds and isolationst elves that objected to his presence.

Later Jeremy discovered that Alice had found her own collectable treasure in Feru's temple; something that looked like a centimeter-thick grey box, with a large sticker on the front reading "ADV Zero."

Jeremy and Alice found out that it was a very rare game - in fact, the only remaining one of its kind - and that a fanatical collector, desprate for the copy, was residing in Cleft...

After another hectic journey to get to the town, the collector proved more than ready to pay a superb price for the 'cartrage,' as he called it.

Jeremy thanked him and started to wonder what the money could be used for, but Alice had her own plans.

It was her money anyway, she argued, and they needed a break anyway, why not get some swimsuits and rent a hotel room and just relax for a while... she was interested in doing a little tanning, as well.

Jeremy wasn't entirely comfortable with this, but he had had enough running around fending off inexplicably aggressive monsters for a while. He agreed to it, saying that he might as well spend some time practicing his underwater martial arts skills. Alice seemed slightly disappointed about this, but that's how it turned out.

----

Which explained why Jeremy was hovering near the bottom of the lake, pondering silently as he practiced adapting to the different gravity and physics that being underwater offered. And working on how long he could hold his breath, but that wasn't the point.

Alice had spent her money on a surprisingly expensive (and appropriately revealing) swimsuit, along with a rather cheap two-person 'honeymoon suite' at the hotel.

Jeremy preferred to spend what little money he'd received from skirmishes on the way here on a cheaper, seperate room.

Alice had also bought a jumprope with the gold from the 'cardridge.' Jeremy had no idea why.

Ah, a corner of his mind reminded him, But are you sure you really WANT to know why?

A valid point.

Jeremy kicked one foot down, propelling him upwards in the water, and did a backflip-kick, looking mildly impressive, but slowed by the water.

He stopped suddenly after the kick. Time for another breath. Low on air again.

The lesser psionist quickly swam back up to the surface of the water, and shot his head up into the air, taking a deep breath, thinking, Not bad, I'm up to maybe two minutes now...

He glanced at the crowds near the beach, which seemed to have grown since the last time he came up.

And he froze.

Excal was there. Jeremy no longer jibbered like an idiot whenever he saw the vetran, but it was still surprising to see him. Noticing the strangest details in his stunned stupor, the psionist saw the faint trace of lipstick on Excal's cheek.

Alice was lying on the beach nearby, covered only by her swimsuit (as had been the usual, the last few days). She saw Jeremy coming up again, and waved wildly at him.

The psionist carefully looked away. Which was probably a bad thing, since then he saw Reako.

Now Jeremy REALLY froze up. He stopped treading water and slowly started to sink back underwater.

I'm jinxed.

----

Alice giggled. "Silly Jerry-chan."

Too bad he isn't doing that while getting a nosebleed...

At the beach:
Mae had settled down on the blanket she brought and was reading the her book; Advanced Magic Focusing techniques by the Olde Ferelian Mage Academy. She had noticed a few other people around her, a girl wearing a swimsuit that left nothing at all to the imagination, waving at someone swimming. "Probably the girl's boyfriend" she thought as she went back into her book... not a care in the world...

Villa:
"Well I don't have a full tech lab with me but I can run a data-find program from my mini-comp in the car." Bob thought about his options in helping this robot "Although I don't know if it would work on you completely, do you have any sort of data auto-repair?"

With Natalia:
"Hey Jeanine, know how to swim? No? Don't worry I'm about to teach you!" So said Natalia as she ran past EKDS and Bob along with some other spectators, jumped over Mae, nearly tripped on Alice and ran right into the lake at full speed.

"Hold on tight!" Natalia yelled as she dove into the deeper part of the lake...

Analyzing.....analyzing....Only readable data remaining is a picture file. Quality: very low.

Bob looked at the robot questioningly, "Scientists? In this place. Well you're welcome to try and find someone if you want..." Bob led the large robot to the back of his humvee, which he opened and showed him a terminal he could log into. "Hmm, no doubt he's after a scientist for a reason. Hope I get to find out MY answers before he does too much damage to him..."

Mae was less than amused by Natalia's little stunt, but she shrugged it off, determined not to let anything get in the way of her reading...

Natalia came back up for air, holding little scared Jeanine. "See? It's not so bad. Now try to mimic what I do okay?" Natalia spoke in a soft tone as she waded thru the water near a certain aspiring psionicist...

"Alright Jeanine, let's take it a little slower then. How about you get used to the feel of the water. No don't worry, I'll be here if you get scared..." Natalia was looking into little Jeanine's eyes as she said this in a very compassionate tone.

There were two things that kept Jeremy from simply going completely underwater and drowning: The water that went up his nose, and Jeanine's yelp of fear when Natalia had dragged her into the water.

For a moment after recovering from his shock, the psionist considered rushing in to help the little girl. One extra reason for his hesitation was the fact that he could tell Natalia was a fair bit more than some mother or psychotic babysitter taking a more-than-direct approach to teaching the child how to swim.

He mentally let out a sigh of relief when he saw Natalia bring the little girl back near the shore. Now he had no reason to risk intervening.

Jeremy treaded water at the surface of the lake, and glanced over at where he had seen Excal; the vetran was gone. He couldn't see Reako, either, though there was a small group of other conversing people he didn't recognize.

I get the feeling I missed something. He thought, I should ask about what happened...

Asking Alice would be just stupid. She'd hold the information (or lack thereof) hostage with the demand of something like being publically groped before she told. In fact, getting out of the water at all would probably be a bad idea. Which left one person he could safely ask...

The psionist swam over to where Natalia and Jeanine were now splashing around.

"Excuse me, my name's Jeremy... could you tell me what happened around here in the last few minutes?"

Unfortunately, neither seemed to hear him over Jeanine's splashing around. Jeremy sweatdropped.

Jeremy looked at the little girl and hesitated. He knew that telling her to go away would be mean, and ignoring her might lead to her doing other things to try and get his attention...

So, while Natalia hesitated to answer his question (or perhaps rather, stared in bemusement at Jeanine's actions), the psionist decided to amuse the little girl.

"Yes," he replied, "That was a poke."

He lifted one arm out of the water and pointed at his own forehead with it.

"Kinda like this one."

Jeremy lightly prodded his own forehead; somehow this led to a sudden pain in his finger joints. He winced, put his hand back in the water, and shook it lightly. Jeanine stared at this curiously.

Realization dawned on the psionist, and he grimaced.

Somehow I knew it was just a matter of time before YOU showed up again. he thought.

"Are we having fun yet?" a mocking voice heard only by his own inner ear asked.

No.

"Well I'm sure there's at least one scientist in the area. I wouldn't have come here otherwise. My memory may have been damaged, but my sense of purpose and direction is functioning fine."

He stepped up to the computer, and a jack extended from his finger, which he plugged into the correct port. A somewhat blurred image of a man appeared on one side of the screen, and as the robot browsed whatever databases available, more images and text flashed on the screen, too fast to actually read.

Christian nodded aprovingly.

"<span style="color:maroon;">Hope you like it, because frankly that's about all I can afford right now.</span>" He led Pelm to a small stand where a man was merrily handing out icecream cones in exchange for money, and as with all other services in the resort, at a ridiculously high price.

Christian ordered some raspberry and cherry sherber and waited patiently for Pelm to order.

"<span style="color:maroon;">You know, with all things considering, you don't really look much like a demon...</span>" He nodded at her wings. "<span style="color:maroon;">Those kinda gives the signal of something else, ´though I've seen the trick used not a very few times.</span>" He leaned his head a bit to the side and smiled. "<span style="color:maroon;">You know, you're quite cute really.</span>"

He was interrupted by the stand-owner who coughed a bit to gain the attention. The smile instantly faded from the man's face and was replaced by a deep scowl. He paid the money the man requested and turned his purse upside down as to signify his obvious lack of any more money.

Auntie? Jeremy thought, Well, that's a possibility. Or maybe it's just a nickname. I won't make any assumptions...

Jeremy forced a small smile at Jeanine. "Well, I tried to tell you earlier, but I guess you couldn't hear. My name's Jeremy. I wanted to ask you and... er... your auntie..." he hesitated, and gave Natalia a nervous glance, before continuing, "About what happened around town today. I've been swimming around for a long time, and I think something's been going on that I missed..."

Alice waved again. Jeremy carefully ignored it.

The database gave no conclusive evidence that there was currently a scientist in town. The only indication that there ever was one, was a hotel room that a known genius had stayed in some six months earlier. Now currently being used by a certain Canuck Knight...

Mae had a twitch in her left eyebrow. She always got one when Natalia was about to do something incredibly wrong or stupid. She sighed and went back to reading her book. No point in trying to delay the inevitable...

Natalia laughed a bit to herself, "Here's the gist. Robot dude over there and Bob had some sort of arguement or something. People watched. They settled the argument peacefully. Oh and robots here are rare." Natalia had managed to figure this out with her keen sense of observation in a matter of seconds. "Oh and that girl over there is waving at you." Natalia pointed to Alice who was at the shore. When Jeremy turned, then came to look back at Natalia and Jeanine they were both gone.

And so were his swimmig pants.

On the beach a snickering Natalia could be seen with Jeanine in tow running past Alice leaving behind a pair of familiar swim trunks at her feet as she ran by.

"Hee hee hee, we'll continue swimming lessons later. For now, why don't we go and build a sand castle?" Natalia said as she ran to a more secluded area of the beach...

"Don't worry, I'm sure we'll meet Jeremy again" Natalia giggled...

Meanwhile two large imposing figures (unusually) in black trenchcoats wearing black hats were walking their way through the entrance of town... seemingly headed to where the robot had landed...
