And good rolls serve well.

Curtis watched as his opponent went into an offensive stance. He had a hunch something was up, but just what was he going to do?

That thought ended just as the brilliant flash came. Curtis tried to close his eyes, but not quickly enough - the flashing light caused him to stagger backwards.

In fact, it made him trip and fall backwards as well, and by some stroke of luck, that was just when the katana swept by where he was standing. Curtis could not have known this, however, as his eyes were still coming up with a nasty afterimage from the flash. However, he could tell - although barely - that his opponent was close to him. Curtis tried reaching his legs out to grab one of Sreyith's legs and pull it out from under him.

(OOC: Curtis's going to be suffering those afterimages for a couple of turns or so, while his eyes readjust. So there's probably going to be some penalty involved.)

His eyes widened slightly as he saw Curtis fall backwards, narrowly avoiding his slash. They widened slightly more as he felt something warm wrap around his left ankle and tug. The tug caused him to fall to his other knee. He then brought his katana around in a quick slash aimed to sever the arm holding his ankle, his katana crackling all the while.

As Sreyith whipped his katana around to slash what was holding his leg, he realized two things. One was that Curtis's legs, rather than his hands, were what had made him fall. The other was that his swing was being impeded. Probably something was being generated to block the movement, the ninja would have most likely guess.

Then he saw Curtis let go of his legs and turn to his side. Unwittingly, his mind went off of trying to impede the sword swing, and it bit somewhat deeply into his leg, causing him to grimace in pain. Despite this, Curtis lashed out his hands-turned-bear-paws in an attempt to claw at Sreyith's chest and sides.

There was a loud thud as the bear paw collided with his chest. The thud was created not from the bear paw hitting his flesh and muscle, but rather the chitin breastplate he wore underneath his ninja garb. However, he wasn't wearing full body armor as that would impede his agility, so the other bear claw rended the flesh near his left hip quite badly. He was bleeding, although it didn't really show due to the black pants he was wearing.

He staggered back slightly, caught off-balance by the surprise attack. However, he wasn't done quite yet. In a swift movement, he brought his katana crashing down into the ground in his foe's direction. The dark energy that had been stored in his katana crackled before channeling towards his foe in the form of a crescent-shaped demonic shockwave. The energy crescent hummed loudly as it rocketed towards his already downed foe.

Sorry for the delay.

Curtis was, of course, unprepared for this kind of thing. However, he still had his other abilities, something he needed now more than ever.

Part of Sreyith's slash seemed to stop as it impacted with Curtis's body. No cut, no slice-through, it just stopped. Not quite so for the bulk of the slash itself. It cut badly into Curtis's side, eliciting screams of pain from the apparent toxin mage.

As Curtis staggered up to his feet, it had become clear that he couldn't take too much more abuse. His bear paws had reverted to normal hands as well. But Curtis had other things in mind. He suddenly hunched down, his eyes closing...

And within moments, a greenish cloud surrounded Curtis. Several seconds later, the toxin mage suddenly grew to a large size, about twelve feet in height. In addition, his skin had become glimmering, steel-like scales, his arms had grown into enormous wings, and most of his other features had become very distinctly dragon-like - including the tail he was now dragging behind him.

Curtis was enraged.

(OOC: Yeah, that's the whole turn right there.)

Sreyith tilted his head slightly, taken aback by the transformation. Now he had seen it all. Well, almost.

Uhh..

Needless to say, the assassin was a tad bit perplexed as to what course of action he should take. He couldn't use any of his own poison techniques, as this was a toxin mage. His katana would probably be useless now against a dragon's scales. Oh well, he had to do something.

He released a hand from his katana, now holding it in only his left hand. His right hand quickly went to his belt and drew a knife from a marked sheath. The knife appeared to gleam with a bluish tinge. With a quick flick of his wrist, Sreyith sent the cyanide-dipped shuriken flying towards the dragon's underbelly.

(OOC: Yes, they did have cyanide. They could get it from cherry seeds, or apple seeds, I forget.)

Sreyith's shuriken would have normally made contact with the dragon's underbelly and the poison would have gotten in... except for one thing.

Midway into the shuriken's flight, it suddenly stopped and dropped straight to the ground. While this happened, Sreyith noticed that Curtis's head was glowing once again.

Seeming pleased that his psychic powers had given him a little time, Curtis opened his mouth wide and unleashed a blast of semi-toxic gas in Sreyith's direction, spraying it to cover an area, which overall made it less effective than it should have been.
