((First attack roll is a five, Ethra loses two HP, yadda yadda...))

"Then let's get started, shall we?"

Rikk left his position in a fast moving swoop that took him half wat across the distance between himself and Ethra. He pulled up into a feint, and then twirled back down low and swept Ethra's legs out from under her, catching her half way down and depositing her roughly on the ground. He then pulled away a slight bit, assuming another defensive stance and waiting to see how the female dragon-half would respond. This would be the most crucial part of the battle for him.

Ethra seems to lie on the ground incapacitated, but as soon as Rikk might let his guard down thinking he had easily walloped the young dragon half, the body suddenly darkens. In a flash of an eye it is floating in the air surrounded by swirling shadows. Her body is soon propelled through the air by some unseen force, feet first, her left foot smashing into Rikk's chest, sending him flying back a few yards onto the ground. Ethra then seems to levitate upright and flaps her wings as she touches one of her legs briefly. "You know it isn't nice to hurt people when they're eyes are closed."

(rolleda 5 too, thus Rikk is now at 8, Ethra at 8 as well.)

((Rolled a 6, so another 2 hp hit. Puts me at 8 and Ethra at 6. This may be over soon...))

Rikk laughed and returned to his feet via an arching of his back, a quick kick of the feet, and a handspring. "Not bad. But if you want to play around with magic hits, then try this one on for size."

With that, he swung his fist in a long uppercut, starting from almost ground level. This would seem rather foolish, given the fact that he was a good ten feet from Ethra. But rather than recovering from the swing, as he rose up he leapt into the air, the power of the wind rune in his right hand leaving behind faint after images as he rocketed skyward, propelled by the runes of flight on his back.

As he reached the top of his jump a second later, a wall of solid wind broke out and screamed towards Ethra, catching the dragon half full on and driving her into the ground once more.

Staring up at the ceiling blankly for a momet Ethra seemed to be lost in another world again. Finally a thoguht came to her.

That hurt.

Ethra suddenly lets out a draconic rawr as she jumps up quickly to her feet. Her eyes seem to glow with an eerie red. The room seems to warap a bit for a moment as an immense rage fills Ethra. Suddenly a thick black tentecle shoots out of her palm grabbing a hold of the proud Rikk and sending him flying against a wall, then another, and another, finally the shadowy tentecle disappears, leaving behind a panting Ethra.

(both are at 6 now.)

((OOC: Rolled a 4. Ethra loses 1 hp, putting her at 5))

Rikk staggered back to his feet, although he had trouble standing fully upright. A sharp pain in his side indicated a bruised rib, and his right leg felt weak.

To make reaching Ethra quickly a little easier, he kicked his flight runes to full strenth, feeling the power they drew from his back even as he swooped across the intervening distance, flitting back and forth to make it hard to predict his angle of approach.

At the last moment, he whizzed by Ethra in the Rouge Butterfly stance, cracking his left elbow into her shoulder. The hit was a little off target, as Rikk wasn't used to quite that kind of fighting, but it was enough to get his point across.

Once he was past the dragon half, he lowered himself to the ground and skidded to face her once more, hoping this time he would be able to dodge her attack. This battle was to close for his tastes.

Ethra tipped backwards a bit but quickly recovered her balance. Taking a moment to hold her hurt shoulder and gritting her teeth, she quickly decided on how to retaliate. With a suddenly swish of her legs she nailed Rikk in his side, then quickly retracted her leg. THe blow wasn't enough to knock him over or anything, it was just meant to help him share her pain. Her lowered head soon lifted itself up and gazed into Rikk's eyes. "Feel like singing too yet?"

"Should've said yes." Ethra grinned, her taste for blood had suddenly emerged, and very soon a blade of shadow had impaled Rikk's left shoulder. It twisted a little, and formed little hooks inside, digging in as best it could, trying to stimulate every nerve it could reach.

(rolled a 5, thus Eth 4, Rikk 3)

((OOC: Rolled 'nother 3, Eth now has 3 HP))

Rikk gasped a bit in pain as the shadow blade impaled his shoulder. As he took the hit, the world went fuzzy, and anger began to boil deep in his veins. What had been a cry of pain transformed into a howl of anger.

As the echo's of Rikk's unearthly scream faded, his back suddenly bulged, and wings burst out of it. His head snapped back as his neck stretched a bit, and his jaw thrust forward and formed a proper snout. A moment later he fell down onto all fours, his limbs now having claws on their ends, rather than hands and feet. The transformation was accompanied by another earth shattering howl, and Ethra was knocked back several feet by it.

Once she gathered her wits, however, she could easily pinpoint a few things: One, this dragon was only about eight feet long. While still deadly, it wasn't nearly as big as a normal dragon. Two, it's wings had far more joints than those of a typical dragon, indicating that it was probably a bit more nimble in the air than most. Three, it's skin was a liquid silvery color, indicating that it had some sort of pure mana powers, rather than raw elemental force. While this would limit it's abilities in other areas, it made it a deadly fighter...

"N-no! don't do this! Don't force me!" She cried out as she saw that th person who she was fighting had turned into a dragon. IT was no use though, he would not comply. she had no other choice. Her heart called out to her that winning might not be worth losing herself, yet in the end, her survival instinct prevailed.

Lowering her head, her eyes began to flow with tears as she took off the pendant. The moment it was off her neck Ethra began to darken, like a great shadow had covered her, growing darker and darker, until nothing could be seen of her body but blackness. The blackness swirled around the dragon Rikk had become, before he could pull away a elongated head formed, with black spikes jouting out everywhere on it biting down on the base of Rikk's neck. Soon after the rest of the body emerged. It's black wings seemd to darken the entire room, its whole body seemed to have a wicked look to it, as if it was a demon, not a dragon. 8 feet tall, almsot exactly the same size as Rikk, but a different form, solid black scales ran down its enitre body, glimmering in the light of the room.

((OOC: 'nother light hit. Currently, both contenders have 2 HP))

Rikk's dragon form had a much higher pain resistance than his human one, as well as physical strength. It quickly gathered all four of it's claws and wrapped them around the jaws of the shadow dragon he was fighting, and exerted a single titanic effort to rip the teeth away from his neck and flapped himself across the arena, smacking the other dragon across the head with his tail as he flew to his own corner. He had suspected he was fighting a dragon half, but he hadn't been expecting a shadow dragon. If he could gather up his strength, his Ray Breath might give him the advantage...

Ethra raised her head to the ceiling, opening her eleongated jaw and roaring again. She no lnoger thought of anything but the destruction of this one person that had caused her pain. No more guilt, no more empathy, no more gentle kindness plagued her torn soul.

As her voice echoed accross the arena her own shadow suddenly seemed to come to life and srpung through the air, leaping towards her prey.

The shadow was met half way by a thin ray of light that burst from Rikk's jaws. The two collided in the middle of the battlefield, the ray bursting in all directions, carrying small flecks of shadow with it. No sign of either attack remained once the flash of intense light faded.

Rikk, in his corner, began to slowly circle right, motes of light collecting around his jaws as he prepared another, stronger blast.

This isn't you.

The thought crushes down upon Ethra's mnid as she seems to pause, frozen. Suddenly, her form seems to flicker, and she darkens again, soon turning into nothing but shadow. A dark form, still seemingly made of shadows but of Ethra's humanoid form no sits in front of Rikk. Her her tears though made of shadow shine in the lgiht of the arena. "Please stop." Are her only words.

Rikk's response was another howl, loud enough to shake the paving in the arena. Another ray of light peireced the arena, gouging a deep trench into the floor.

But it missed Ethra by a half foot. The glimmering dragon shook it's head once, and pulled itself up onto it's hind legs. It seemed to shudder as it wrapped its wings around itself, slowly shriking back to a more normal, human size. Finally, his wings merged onto his body, forming a new set of clothes to replace those destroyed in his transformation. Rikk stood in his human form once again, blood still dripping from his shoulder where he had been stabbed, breathing heavily.

"Well... then, shall we... call this a match?"

Ethra's bodily finally fully formed from the black shadows that it had been composed of. Silently she got up and went in front of him. With another suddeness she tilted her head forward and to Rikk's shoulder, where sh began to lick his wound, drinking some of the blood as she did so. "They say a dragon's saliva can heal wounds, perhaps that's true of half dragons." After a few moments she stepped back, the woud no longer bled, but it was still there. "So do you have it in you to leave this arena without finishing this battle?" Ethra's stare seemed hollow somehow, as if she did not care for the answer.

Rikk rubbed his shoulder absently. In fact, he didn't seem to be paying any real attention to the situation at all. "Sure, sure. I don't have to finish every fight I start... You're pretty good for someone without much training."

With that, he turned and wandered towards the exit, haunted by images of a burning hut, a dying dragon, and a crying girl...

NEW CHALLENGER

Unread postby Nekogami » Sun Feb 09, 2003 12:49 pm

The arena changed shape to a large plain and a slight mecha walked to the forefront. The cockpit slid open and a lion-maned nekojin poked her head out.

"HIIII! I WANNA KICK ASS! Name's Hayako! I want a freestyle mech battle. Mecha get 20 HP instead of he usual 10. Point system still applies"

(By the Pantheon! A mecha battle! Any challengers!?)

A shadow falls over the plain. As Hayako looks upward, he sees a large steel object descending, yet it is not a mecha.

It is a large steel-clad Airship. Two gun turrets dominate the deck, making up in power and mobility what they lack in numbers. Several subcannons line the hull. It's engines hum quietly, powering the propellers that give the ship it's forward momentum. The light gleams off the armored plating, where the name Sirocco is painted.

An aqua-haired man in black robes stands upon the deck. He regards the Nekojin calmly, then says, "I am Faulkner Soundcrest, and this challenge... intrigues me. Shall we see if your mecha can match my Aegrean Dreadnaught?"

The Starboard turret was ruined by the attack.

But that might not have been the best course of action, as it promptly exploded, drilling the Shadowcat with a fair amount of debris.

"Man," Ramone grouses, "Those things are expensive."

Faulkner was quiet. If that machine was not shaken off soon, he might have to take things into his own hands to do so.
