Ethralia - A New World

Unread postby Devin SwordMage » Thu Jun 20, 2002 12:57 am

Style: Freeform, I am going to give a vague setup of the world and then allow free reign unless I feel obligated to step in and take care of a problem (Being power gamers, etc etc.) However, Feel free to RP however you want. Also when I say Freestyle (pardon the chaos this may create) I am meaning to allow interactions between players to be solved by themselves, realistically. Basically try to avoid fights but if it comes to that point (The old, he spilled mead on my shoes scenario) then do so at the others consent. CONSENT CONSENT CONSENT, do nothing without consent, I know that’s the basics of this sites forums but I cant Stress that enough, I don’t want people setting people on fire (Even though that might be a funny way to create RP) However, I don’t want no fighting to occur (Fighting Good, Fighting make plot thicker and more fun, Fighting Get boring if too much). One thing, people should defiantly feel free to create their own scenes, feel free to cause conflicts if you want (Good rps need Bad Guys, even if they are misunderstood ones) I will be posting a few posts at times dealing with a Bad guy who isn’t so bad and is very hard at expressing himself, this will be fun I hope.

Type and Limitations: I am limiting this world to Earlier weapons such as Sword, bows, and staffs as well as magic. Do not use guns, you can have custom weapons, for example an Ice Sword that can fire a chunk of ice from its tip twice a day. Try not to over do it (Overdoing it being a weapon that can create a crater, destroy a town, or armor that deflects all attacks, be somewhat realistic here) Only I will have “Godlike” powers to destroy cities (Which such powers will only be used if your all being bad)

Ethralia - A World Of Legends

Ethralia, a world With Three Moons each represented by a Gods. The Blue Moon, the moon Of Alralia, the Goddess Of The Warriors and Light, the largest of the three. The Green Moon, The moon of Deasmos the God Of Thieves and Shadows. The Red Moon, the moon of Damiana, The Goddess of Magic and Destiny. The three major gods of Ethralia, the three gods have temples to them as well as Guilds in their honors, or dishonors. The world of Ethralia is a place of Large Floating Islands with large seas and plains below them. The Large islands are scattered about the world and are separate countries. The islands are not very populated and towns are separated from each other by a great deal. Flying boats are the main method of transport between each Island, as well as some Cities having Transport circles within them (Magic areas which allow transport from one island to another instantly, they are not used often since the magic is difficult and thus expensive to use). Below the Floating islands are plains and oceans with some but almost no cities due to the heavier population of monsters in that area, However their is one large city on the plains with a tower that goes straight through one of the floating islands. This City has a large defense force and is somewhat of a Gaming town (Like Las Vegas only cooler) It has Casinos, Many stores, Guild Headquarters, and Many Monster Hunters. This city is called Malfaire and is the most famous of all cities mostly due to the Large festivals often held here. This is the World you have now entered. (I hope this allows you something to go on and still be creative)

(OOC: Liberty of first post, since I like the concept. Just a note, though; capitalization is a bit funky.)

Calynpen looked at the Red Moon, which was currently the highest in the sky.

An omen, she decided, tucking her hood closer about her face. Sharply angled and with a wild, curling mass of green hair framing it, she stood out in a crowd... at least unless she chose to fade into the shadows. Her skin was pale and almost silvery, and her eyes were large, dominating her face and with a quicksilver sheen to them. Barely visible at the sides of her neck were small, faintly curving lines. Family tradition stated that they were the remnants of gills, from when her family had lived in the ocean, but she had no idea if they worked or not.

Then Calynpen disappeared into the throngs along the cloudscape of Malfaire.

(Sounds cool! I'll join!)

Joke kicked the dust in the street as he made his way along. They said the city would hold great oppurtunities for a young man like himself, that such prowess against monsters as his would be valued and praised, that he would never be out of work. Ha! What rot. What was he now? He was an under-payed monster hunter who hadn't been hired in months. He didn't have all these flashy dinks that other hunters had. He couldn't do magic, he didn't have a "legendary" sword. No. All he had was his crooked blade and some cheap armour, at least he wasn't completely broke, not yet anyway.

Joke pulled back his rough, light brown hair. It almost reached his shoulders now. His brown eyes had turned to grey because of the city dust. His features were hardened, his face was strained. He was only 22, he was still young.

"Oh how I hate this city."

He pulled his coat up and carried on towards his appartment.

Malfaire, the city that never sleeps. A commotion is heard inside the local Fighters guild, screaming of the Guildmaster and the fumbled attempts of rebuttal by what sounded like a young man.

Guildmaster: I lost three of my best fighters just to save your sorry ass and you expect me to give you another mission!
Young Man: But...but sir! The trap ....was concealed! Things happen! How was I, or they supposed to know a Dragon lived in the ruins!
Guildmaster: That’s it Dekete, you’re suspended!
Dekete: WHAT!?! Over a Mission gone wrong!?! UGH! I WILL SHOW YOU! I WILL SHOW ALL OF YOU!

At this the young man, Dekete, stormed out of the guild hall, his green eyes had an intense anger burning in them, his two swords strapped at his hips as he walked away from the guild, shoving a passerby out of his way grumbling as he moved. His medium length black hair that hangs loose about his head moving with the soft breeze provided in the upper levels. Dekete entered his small apartment, grunting softly about things when a knock at his door came. Walking to the door, he found an odd package, inside was a strange gauntlet and a note.
-This gauntlet will help you achieve your goals, put it on and you shall know-
Dekete looked at the gauntlet for a moment before growling a bit, “I hate the guild!” and slipped the gauntlet onto his right arm. A Dark aura surrounded him, and an evil laugh fell off his lips. Waving a hand at a small dog, that appeared to be a stray, the dog burst into flames and yelped running away. Dekete smiled, He would have his revenge, and people would worship him. He went back into his apartment, big plans formulating in his brain.
(So far so good, I hope it stays intresting to people)

Nai sat in the forest, his hair spilled over his face. He sat straight, brushing his hair behind his Elf-like ears, and stod. He pickedhis Sword from the grund, resting his Great-club on his right shoulder and trudged out.
The nearest town was only a few miles, Nai thought to himself. He walked for an hour, bag of gold at his side and Short Sword wrapped to his thigh. It's time I found the man who killed my father, and venege the death of my father-A Holy Knight of the Galadrien army.

He reached the town that afternoon, heading over to a pub to get a drink.

(OOC: Looks good. I'll introduce my character(s) here. Beware, for this post is very strange and mysterious, and you won't understand why the hell it is happening.)

Nathan looked around at the hustle and bustle of the street vendors and customers haggling over their wares. So much energy - so much life! Too bad that it would all change soon. This was far too chaotic. It had to be changed, for everyone's sakes.

Facing ahead, he set his sights on a small temporary stage ahead, where he could see a brightly dressed gentleman entertaining a crowd.

Coming closer, he began to hear snatches of the man's voice.

'And now I will make this young woman disappear!'

Nathan growled inwardly. A street magician. Embodiments of chaos if ever there were any. Still, he moved closer, interested to see how the man was fooling the crowd. Pushing between the crowd, which gave way for his dominating presence - nothing to do with size, but something about him always made strangers uncomfortable.

The magician, disturbed by the distraction, turned and looked in his direction. They both froze. And then the street performer's expression turned into a cruel raptor's smile.

'Gotcha.' he said, before leaping off the stage at Nathan who was already running, as the crowd around screamed and cried...

Calynpen suddenly felt the crowd around her turn wild and turbulent, and could see a fleeing figure...

Trinity, what's going on? she wondered, struggling to keep on her feet as the people heaved. Her hood fell off, revealing long, delicately tapering ears. Calynpen didn't bother putting it back on.She could barely glimpse Nathan and his pursuer.

I don't like the expression that the other man has... the woman decided, nearly tripping into a large, burly monster hunter. The hunter made a crude suggestion and she slapped him, then melted into the crowd again before he could react.

What the heck. I'm chaotic enough, what with all three moons being junctioned when I was born.

She slipped away, joining in the chase silently. If the opportunity came to help the fleeing man, she'd take it.

Dekete steps from his apartment and walks out of the city, people move from him, the dark aura flowing about the gauntlet so strong that normal people can see it. The Gauntlet seems to control him, as he heads to the north as if something calls to him, something powerful.
===========================

The wind of flows through the upper levels of Malfaire as a young boy runs to the tower taking the ‘elevator’ down to the lower levels and runs towards the arena. The town is filled with excitement the Yearly tournament was about to start. The tournament consisted of five days of fighting ending in a grand battle between members of different Sects. Anyone could sign up but it was most often used as a way for the guilds to battle each other, the different sects of the tournament where the following: Hunters - Monster hunters, Fighters - Members of the Fighters Guilds from around the world, Magi - Magic used from the magic guilds from around the world, Thantas - They tended to be Thieves from the guilds but could be ‘common’ non fighter/wizard guild members that paid extra for better accommodations, Royal - Knights/Soldiers from Royal stock or Kingdoms who showed up basically to show support of the festivals, and last Vagantas - Common people or people who didn’t pay who most often join because the need of winning money. The tournaments first two days where battles of members against monsters to somewhat ‘thin the herd’ of contestants, the third and fourth days where actually battles between the different sects, and the last day where the championships. First prize differs for which sect comes out on top, For Hunters they are given a storage area, a trophy, and supplies to hunt with for a year. For Fighters they become Guild VIP’s and are most likely next in line to become head Master Of the Guilds as well as a trophy and money, Same goes for the Magi. Royals get a trophy and tend to become Generals on return to their kingdom as well as being rewarded extra land. Thantas Receive land and money as to Vagantas, however Vagantas tend to get a little more money and land as a reward for their hard work and success at winning. Vagantas hardly ever won, tending to be farmers who had a rough season who only want to win a few fights to get money to live on, most often the Winners of the tournament ‘misplaced’ a few coins into the nearby area of Vagantas to help support them. This was the way it had been for years, The hero of the tournament was named Nauda and had been champion for the past three years, he was of the fighter sect. Thousands Showed up this year to see if Nauda shall reign again or be defeated.

Nathan darted down a side alley, berating himself.

'Fool! You should know better! They are everywhere! Imbecile! WHOA!

He came up short before a wall - the alley was blind.

Eyes darting left and right, he noticed that the walls of the buildings to either side were uneven. Leaping up the left wall like a cat, he had scaled it in no time and found himself on the roof. Nathan ducked down, trying hard not to breathe.

The sound of running footsteps echoed up from below, and then slowed to a methodical pace.

'Come out, come out wherever you are!' The once friendly voice was twisted into something evil, something vile.

Trinity Trinity oh sweet TRINITY... wondered Calynpen, bringing herself to a stop behind the erstwhile magician.

I don't like this at ALL... but that means I have to help, right? But how? I don't think he'd LIKE being watched... and the man he is chasing is somewhere else, and— Wait. The roof. Calynpen had used the rooftops for a path often enough that she could go just about anywhere in the city without worries, and without once setting foot to the ground.

He's probably on the roof... but I think that the hunter could hear us if we moved... or if I led him off... but that man would HAVE to be pretty lithe to just climb up onto the roof from that particular alley, so he could probably follow me...

Her thoughts were chasing her around in circles... So Calynpen just did what her first instinct was.

She climbed the wall, thin and nimble fingers and feet finding handholds even in the most unlikely places, and went onto the roof, where she could clearly see Nathan for the first time.

Afraid of me?... Calynpen found the concept odd, her pure, mercury eyes meeting his guilelessly. She had no whites to them, only the quicksilver. She was small and slight of build, maybe only five feet in height, and found his fear... intriguing.

Calynpen raised a finger to her lips, indicating silence. Then she sent her hand into a quick, darting flurry of movements, hoping that he knew the fingertalk used by the thieves and poor people of the city.

< I want to help you,> her fingers said.

Calynpen turned in surprise at the new arrival. Her eyes glanced over Taydoran, and she stepped back in a wary stance, prepared for flight or fight at a moment's notice. She showed no fear, though— just wariness.

Again, her finger rose to her lips, trying to hush him, and her fingers went into another rapid message as her free hand lifted her hood over her face again, casting her features into shadow.

Rebin drew his cloak in closer around himself, day was truning to night and the air was cooling. Whistling quietly rebin turned a corner into an ally, and came face to face with a wall. "Some shortcut", he muttered. Spinning around he stared to head back for the street, when his eye caught something on the roof. It was the hours of twilight, the three moons were hanging brightly over the city. On the outskirts of Malfaire was Gahleon. Walking ever so slowly, his image meshed with the shadows. He wore a shadowy transparent cloak, that covered all aspects of his body. It seemed to radiate a weak magical aura. Wraped in this cloth Gahleon limped towards the city, with every step he took he grunted softly. There seemed to be a weak trail of blood behind him. Striding into the city, he sought out the medic in the area.

Eventualy, Rebin found himself leaving the city and heading for the forest on the outskirts. After a bit of searching, he located his camp and sat down with a sigh. For the tenth time that night he wished he had enough money for a room. "I suppose seeing the sky isnt so bad..." he thought. Turning to his pack, Rebin reached in and pulled out the last of his food, a little cheese and some bread. After a moment Rebin decided on the bread and promptly ate it. As he ate his mind wandered back to the ally.

His average body subconciously struggling to kee p balance on the limb he was sitting on. putting the book into a small sack, Lue sets the dagger gently on his lap, spreading his hands about equally apart from it, and proceedes to lift the dagger, or at least try to. He concentrates briefly, but yealds no results, frustrated, he puts the dagger away and once again reaches for the book, dertimined to at least learn how to levitate this today. his amber eyes darting across the pages.
After another reading binge and failed attempt, he noticed it was getting quite dark".. almost time to head home" he thought to himself. quickly producing a jar from his bag, he used a simple cantrip he had managed to get a hold on to conjrue a flickering flame inside, and hung it on a branch above him. The warm flicking light flowed over his face, making feel more comfortable somehow. A thought crossed his mind as his eyes wandered towards the sky. "the Red moon... Something about it...". He shrugged it off and silently packed up his things, moving off into the growing darkness towards town.

Gahleon, in his search for a medic, got a few hostile stares and some curious ones as well. Mainly, his answers came as two kinds:

"Any doctors are too expensive for your type... and too important."

But from a few of the lower-classes, or the ones who crept about furtively and managed to stay indistinguishable even in large crowds, Gahleon was informed to:

"Look for Calynpen." This was usually delivered in a tone of voice implying that one had better be polite to this Calynpen.

Gahleon scavanged the town for a medic, that the people spoke of -- this "Calynpen" -- but alas he could not find Calynpen.

Slightly annoyed, Gahleon speaks, his voice is soft yet very troubled sounding. "Damn city... all the lust and enjoyment that such a place can offer, but no refuge for the hurt... tasteless i tell you."

Quickly Gahleon reaches for his shoulder, staggering he unveils part of his cloak to view his wound. His shoulder appears to have been slashed by some sort of claw. It wasn't that bad, obviously it look like he evaded the full potiential blow, but still suffered a wound.

"Ugh, I'm tired..."

Gahleon begins to walk to the outskirts of the city again, he sees a small camp outside near the forest where he originally came. Cautiously he makes his way to the camp where he saw a gentleman with fiery red hair. Perhaps this was Calynepn?

Normally Gahleon would keep to his own, but at this point he was too tired to not rely on someone else, plus he notice his wound was becoming more severe as the time passed.

"Hello good sir... could I perhaps ask of some assitance from you?"

At first Rebin was going to inquire what he needed assistance with, but his eyes made a double take to the man's shoulder wound.

"Uh, sure. I think i got something that could help. Sit down by the fire."

Reaching into his pack, rebin pulled out some bandages and a bottle, He uncorked the bottle and walked over to the mans shoulder.

"This might sting a bit...."

After this man tended to his wounds Gahleon stood up and unveiled his face. He had short silver hair, slightly elven features. Slanted eyes, pale face, soft skin, but his ears were not pointed. His eyes were a deep ocean blue, and he looked very young. If you were to guess, you'd think no older than 19.

For a moment Gahleon hesistates, then he has a fiendish grin on his face.

"Ahh yes that. Well its quite funny you see. I am on an errand to deliver some precious cargo to someone in this city. The problem is I dont really know who. *sigh* Anyway, while bolting through the forest as fast as I possibly could while cloaked something managed to knock me off course. It moved with incredible speed. I found it odd that it outmatched my own. I may look frail and week, but I assure you my agility and dexterity makes up for it."

As Gahleon begins to tell his story he slighly paces

"I avoid conflict if I can, unless told otherwise. I was told to deliver, and that is what i'm paid to do. What ever this creature was it was fast, and it was smart. I don't believe it to be a regular animal. But... to answer your intial question, it looked like a black panther that gave off a dark aura."

With a shrug Gahleon laid his back to a near by tree.

"Thank you very much Rebin, I am in your debt. I think i'm just going to get some sleep. I have quite a day ahead of me tommorow."

Gahleon wraps him self in his cloak, throwing back down the mantle. The shadows once again seemed to melt into his image, and asleep he went.

Nai sat down at the bar, motioning for the tender to get him a drink.
"You look the type for something hard," the bartender looked to the oung mand and complimented in a grizzled old voice. "I have jus the thing for you." He pulled a botle from under the shelf, the top of it resembling a dragon's head, and he poured a small glass for Nai. Taking a drink, Nai handed the man two gold, to keep the change.
"Woah, heh, you're welcome here anytime, my friend," the bar tender grinned. Nai downed it, and slammed his fist onto the bar, swallowing as the drink went down. He gasped, a great blast of fire escaping his mouth.
"You like Dragon's breath, I take it?" the Ba Tender asked eagerly. Nai nodded, his voice sounding as thought he was winded.
"That's strong," he wheezed. He gave a cough of smoke, and fell onto the floor of the pub. Now people were talking about the boy that survived the drink of Death.

A day later, Nai woke, his head hammering from the first and only drink. He looked to the man beore him.
"Hey, you OK?" The person asked. Nai got up, his head in total disarray as he tried to stand.
"Too much for me," Nai muttered. He stood, stumbled, then fell into the arms. of his roommate.
"What's your name?" The stranger asked. Nai replied slowly.
"Nai, Nai Starshadow," he answered. 'What's yours?"

The green-haired lass glanced at the sky, her gaze flickering over the blue moon...

And suddenly felt a familiar, sharp stabbing pain in her forehead.

They're hurting... three are blooded, somebody's skull is... it hurts it hurts the LIGHT it hurts....

I can't stay any more! They NEED me! Furtively, Calynpen looked over at the other two, agonizing. I might be able to help here... but I know that Faya is going to DIE if she doesn't get help...

The strange, peculiar bond that Calynpen sometimes felt with her friends among the gangs of Malfaire was flaring, allowing her to feel their pain as another gang war was beginning.

<I can no longer stay,> her fingers sent quickly, wincing. <But if you need me, look for Calynpen.>

With that, she turned and ran, softly and gracefully towards one of the slums of the city.
