Telerak smiled, knowing Keliel well enough to be able to smell the awkwardness coming off him. He addressed Arenda. "And as I'm sure Tur has told you, I'm Telerak, her..." he felt his throat catch at the word "date". "Escort. For the evening." Makes me sound like a whore, he thought. That's okay, I kind of feel like one.

As the awkwardness began to condense and permeate the area to the point of choking, Tur quickly grabbed Telerak by the arm and whisked him off, saying "Sooo where are we off to? I'm sure you've got a great place lined up for us. Or are we going to be watching more of that activity you call a sport?" She flashed a smile and checked behind her to make sure that the other two were following. "And nice job not sounding like a prostitute. Escort..." She beamed at him again.

Arenda couldn't read whatever feeling was behind Keliel's tone, and that made her a little worried. Of course, that worry passed once the introductions turned out awkward all-around.

Before she could respond to Telerak, Tur had whisked him away. Starting to follow, Arenda turned her attention back to Keliel.

"So, I'm told you're in the Order of Fire?" Arenda asked him, thinking that she needed to try and start some small-talk. "My parents are too."

Telerak shot Tur a look at the "prostitute" comment but didn't shoot anything back for fear of making everything worse. "The Volcanoes lost to the Waterside Unity five or six hours ago," he said with a grin (happy to see the Stone Road Volcanoes lose no matter what). "I caught the beginning of the game while I was passing by. None of the teams are playing this late or I'd take you all. Make you dress in Westal black and teal and help me hold up the fifteen-foot 'GO TORNADOES' banner my friend and I made last weekend." He turned his head slightly to include the younger pair in his next words. "I was gonna leave it up to the two of you, anyway; you're the ones on the blind date, after all. Anywhere in particular either of you want to go? See the bands in the Fountain Square? Go on a romantic lantern-lit walk through the Orchard listening to fancy music? Go to a bar and drink until we can't remember our names?" His tone of voice suggested that he preferred the last, but that the first might be okay, too.

"Boy, Tel, you really know how to show a few people a good time," she said, with only a hint of sarcasm in her voice. "I heard the local actor's guild is putting on a rendition of The Five in the South Square. I've never seen the play myself, but I've been told it's quite interesting, and the local guild is also quite talented. Just another option."

Telerak gave Tur a blank stare. "The Five? Never heard of it." Of course, that likely didn't surprise Tur.

"Of course you haven't, Tel. Those sorts of things are for cultured people. And you, my dear, are anything but. But, perhaps us cultured ladies," at this she looked over to where Arenda was talking to Kel, "will be able to teach you crude men a flair or two. Who knows, you might even learn something that'll help you land a real date." With this comment she let go of Tel's arm and spun around a little bit, smiling teasingly at Tel and looking over at Arenda and Kel. It looked like Kel was rather uncomfortable, and so was Arenda. She knew that by the end of the night, things would be going a lot better. Maybe even second date better, she mused.

Arenda's attention was caught by the conversation going on between Tur and Tel.

"I have been wanting to see that," she said of the play Tur'nasus had mentioned. With a hopeful look on her face, she looked back at Kel. "How about it? Care to check it out?"

"Hey, this is a real date," Telerak said, feeling as scandalized as he sounded and not entirely sure why.

Meanwhile, Jagen and Avry'l had found Jagen's friends. Avry'l would possibly recognize them, as they were all from his Order and he spent a lot of time watching people. In particular, he might remember Jorse Manrain, rumored to be the single smartest Wind Guide in the Order, a designation that would be likely to get him watched by Avry'l.

Avry'l perked up once he realized that Jorse was among one of the "friends" Jagen had spoken so highly of. For the moment, he stood back and took notice of the rest of the group he had just encountered, planning his next move, as well as waiting for Jagen to introduce him, of course.

Jagen, uncertain of himself, started the introductions with a drawn-out "Uhh..." before weakly suggesting that "you all know Avry'l Vancougar, don't you?" and hoping fervently that they didn't. The last thing I need is anyone who knows him thinking me hanging out with Vancougar is a regular thing, he thought.

(OOC: Molo, it's your decision who does or doesn't know Avry'l; I don't know how infamous you want to consider him.)

(OOC: Sorry, I missed that OOC bubble when I first checked it, and for some reason never saw it updated again...apologies. As for your question, I'd say people would generally know the name from hearing it somewhere, although I wouldn't say he'd have legends or rumors about him, except for being generally nonsocial and odd.)

No one around seemed to know Avry'l as more than perhaps a face and a name. Thank Lady Laetha, Jagen thought, breathing more easily. "So, what have you all been up to all night?" He asked his friends, trying in desperation to leave Avry'l as much out of the conversation as he could.

"I've been meditating on a conundrum," Jorse started, in his normal grandiose way. "It's a difficult one, but I can find a solution." He turned toward Avry'l, preparing to outline the problem he was working on, when Jagen stopped him.

"Oh, I'm certain no one wants to think on philosophy or whatever else on a night like this, Jorse, wouldn't you agree?" the beleaguered Wind Guide put in hastily.
"Tell you what, Leto, I won't fight with you. Zeus' wives are pretty tough customers. You have my permission to boast openly that you have beaten the daylights out of me."

"Actually..." Avry'l's eyes lit up like black flames as he focused on Jorse. "Such a scholarly discussion would certainly intrigue me..."

Avry'l turned to Jagen, a wry smile creeping eerily across his face. "...what's wrong, Jagen? The toils of a human mind are always worth an examination or two..." he turned back to Jorse. "...even if they prove unprolific."

"You see," Jorse began, "It's one of Rolter's 52 Allegories, which, if you haven't heard of them, are an old reinterpretation of the Sacred Texts that considers them as symbols and then ties them back to the literal meaning of the Text. Number 44, to be exact; I've never liked it. It gives a pretty shoddy explanation for why the Sacred Beasts tend to match the natures of the Gods - Gaezal is wise and fair like Verir and Far'hinnis is creative and in touch with his emotions like Our Lady - except Xafer and Krad don't seem to be anything alike; Krad has three moods per page, but Xafer seems as steady as a rock. He approaches it like Krad's mood swings are all beneficial and Xafer's just not divine enough, which is kind of absurd, I mean, look at half of the Tales And Origins where he's got more than a cursory mention - it's just like saying it was good that Trixer took too long to think about how he'd save Naenas. You know? So I'm looking at by looking at the other Sacred Beasts and seeing if I can detect any emotion at all from any of them; if it's something they just don't have, then that explains why it defines Krad but is ignored when discussing Xafer. Any thoughts, Avry'l?"

Jagen rubbed his eyes. It's gonna be a long night, he wailed silently.
