Enzo nodded at Silvie's words.

"She's right. We're taking a short bus ride, and when it's over we'll go back to normal size. Come and looks, it's just the right fit for us inside."

Enzo went to open to door to the Flare drive, hoping he hadn't just made himself a liar. He was focused on getting Kid into the Flare drive right now, before she bolted or something, and checking the inside of the thing out first didn't matter so much to him just yet. He would have gone over to take her hand, but once again Kid had plenty of people surrounding her right now. He waited to see what she'd do before doing anything else.

Enzo opens the door and steps in, and finds...The flaredrive.

It's...It's actually incredibly nice in there. There's some sort of air conditioning or something on, fresh air circulates through it. From his size, it appears to be about the length of a bus, but wider. There's a few rows of very plushy looking seats. Near the front, there's some actual bed units built into the wall, as well as a weird gray space that he notices near the back- That's where their logo is going to go; once they decide on one. This is their official flare drive...Ride.

On top of everything else, he notices speakers for a sound system, a rather large TV mounted on the ceiling on the left wall with cabinets under it, and in the closer left-hand corner near the door, even a small kitchenette area.

Kid, however, falls onto her knees, then slumps to her side. "I c-can't..I c-can't b-b-breathe!"

Under normal circumstances, Silvie would have been ecstatic. She would have been excited. She would have gaped and oohed and ah'd and started messing with the TV and the cabinets and anything else she could have reasonably gotten herself into.

However, under normal circumstances, Kid wouldn't have been hyperventilating. That more or less killed her enthusiasm.

"H-Hey," she started, "It's...it's going to be okay, okay - Hey Enzo, can we open up any, er, windows on this thing?"

Alexis has tried to support Kid as well as she could, looking around rather panicky and holding on to the girl next to her. "W-w-we don't need t-to breathe Kid. T-try to relax and take some deep breaths... no wait, I don't... ar..." she looked around at the others, lips trembling slightly as she was getting more and more worried, and embarrassed for getting worried, and worried for getting embarrassed.

Emily knelt down next to Kid, trying her best to convey reassurance, "It's okay," she said, "We can go back outside for a bit if you need to. We don't have to leave right this minute." Kid would have to get used to this eventually, if she wanted to leave the database, but there was no sense in forcing her right now if she was this uncomfortable.

Enzo tossed propriety to the wind and used their etherlink to check Kid's programming quickly. Was she malfunctioning again, or simply having an anxiety attack? The former could theoretically be fixed, or at worst she could be left in the Database and the adults alerted to the fact that she needed help. The latter... Well, everyone else was still trying to handle that.

Well, this was awkward. A small part of Max wants to say 'Dude, you're an extreme sports competitior, and this is giving you trouble? Suck it up!' Especially since this sort of thing is going to be par for the course for pretty much the reest of their lives. But he's smart enough to know that such an approach would be inappropriate and unhelpful, especially considering she hasn't had half a year to get used to the idea. But at the same time, he's not entirely comfortable with the whole "nurturing" thing. Nor does he have any idea what would be best for Kid in this situation. He decides to squat down next to Emily, and reaches to put a hand on Kid's shoulder, but takes it back before it gets there, not being sure if touching her would be reassuring or threatening.

"Kid... you're among friends here. This is a safe place. But, umm..." Max semi-nervously glances at his sister, and then looks back at Kid. "Like Emmy said, we're not in a huge rush or anything. So, you know... we'll stick with you. And if you want to hang back, I'm sure a couple of us will hang with you."

...still, Max was really hoping this sort of thing wasn't going to be a recurring theme. This was a really uncomfortable position to be taking with someone he respected and admired. And yet it's not a position he would assume for anyone he didn't.

Little did Max know, but Silvie was beginning to wonder the same thing. Now, she didn't have a problem with the whole comforting or nurturing stuff, but would it really work? Maybe she did need something else...

"Hey!" she said. "Hey Kid, look at me. Do you see this suit?"

Silvie tugged at her spandex for emphasis, before she pointed down at her feet. "And these boots! And the gloves, too...do normal people wear this stuff? No! Only superheroes where this stuff - heck, we've even got the weird underwear-on-the-outside thing going on. And we're not just dressed up like them, either. I've got super strength, you've got super speed, Max and Emily can fly, we can all shrink... it's like a comic book!"

Hands on her hips, she continued, "And when was the last time a superhero freaked over a little thing like shrinking?"

Max turned around to watch Silvie give her demonstration, and a huge smile beamed across his face. Hell yeah! That was way more in line with his style. Max is all too eager to jump to his feet.

"Hell yeah! And Enzo can see people's weaknesses, Darren can, theoretically, blows stuff up, and we can all crunch numbers like breakfast cereal! We're freaking bad-ass!" Max accentuates this statement with a one-two punch combination.

Max turns back to Kid. "Besides, I know for a fact you've faced scarier things than this and kicked the crap out of them. Are you really going to let one of the lamest superpowers in comics get you down?"

"Super heroes..." Kid mumbles, taking a deep breath. She begins to get to her feet, and those looking notice she's grinning. "We're..Super heroes."

She stands fully, and takes a deep breath. "I've been an actor my entire life..But now, I've got the greatest role ever."

She strikes a pose. "You know...I think, thinking like that, I could get used to this. I'm a superhero now. I've got super powers! And if I don't say so myself, I think I look pretty damn good in my costume."

She cracks her knuckles, and begins walking in. "Shrinking is just part of the job. You know my next project was going to be the Elasteen movie? I can't believe they actually optioned that comic book."

Coming in behind the others, Sam looks around the flash drive; it's cool, but it's not as awe-inspiring as some of the Wunderkind stuff he's encountered so far. Still, it's definitely unexpected. He finds a free seat and gets comfortable, wondering how long the trip will take, when he overhears the argument between Silvie and Kid. "Elasteen? Oh, I think I've heard of that! Enzo, didn't you read some of those before? I guess it'd be a neat idea for a movie, but I guess it could've been dumb too. A lot of superhero movies that sound good end up really dumb, but a lot of ones that sound dumb end up really good too." He shrugs. "D'you think they might still try an' make it with you in here, Kid? They might want you to do movie stuff from inside here or somethin'."

Oh thank goodness, it wasn't going to be a big huge ordeal after all. Enzo entered the Flare drive (Or, as he'd started to think of it, the bus) proper and took a seat. He belatedly answered Sam:

"I've flipped through a few of them, yeah. Honestly it didn't hold my attention for very long. I've always liked stuff with angels and demons and things more. You know, where they take maybe three paragraphs of real information from a real religious book and then make up everything else, and put out a cheesy comic or movie with it. It's ridiculous, and sometimes the stories suck, but it usually looks good. That's most of what I want out of them anyway. Good art, good special effects, well scripted fights... The skin tight costumes in a lot of super hero comics never worked for me. I mean, it's iconic and that's awesome? But when everyone's wearing the same spandex suits with different paint jobs, you kind of stop noticing them. Or, well, I do."

Alexis had gotten a lot happier with Kid cheering up, and she was listening to the sudden superhero conversation with almost a slack jaw, looking back and forth between the participants. "Elasteen?" she mouthed the word carefully, "I... I've never heard of any of these comics... I used to read..." she grew beet-red suddenly and mumbled the last word, "Percival and the raincoat of magic..."

"You read that?" Kid says, smiling a little. "Those are actually pretty cute. And the new art is good, too. They were going to do a cartoon adaptation of that. I turned down a part in that to do.."

She frowns. "To do..Well, if I had gone with the voice acting bit, I wouldn't be here."

She sits, and turns to lay down with her hands on her stomach. "...Weird."

After considering the possibilities for a few moments she nods, "I think... you sound a bit like Ecaterina... y-you know, the persian cat who's always inviting everyone to tea..."

Emily refrained from rolling her eyes at the direction the conversation had taken. It seemed to have shaken Kid out of her panic attack, and that was what counted. Comic book characters had never really appealed to her all that much, though it was difficult not to know about some of them, what with all the movies coming out lately. She found herself a seat, wondering whether they'd know when they started moving. With everyone aboard, they ought to be on the move soon, surely.

Lauren was lost in thought. Just think small. But what would happen to Ambassador Leafshade? Would she have to leave her behind? Would she shrink down automatically? Or could they...

Now, there was an idea.

Lauren closed her eyes and concentrated thinksmallthinksmallthinksmall. A tiny, almost seperate thread of her consciousness added, but not too small.

***

Those inside the bus heard an excited squeal from Lauren outside. "It worked! It worked! You're amazing!"

And an oddly loud answering whisper, "Of course I am."

Lauren skipped into the bus with a huge grin, spun around and gestured dramatically towards the door. Behind her, all light from the door disappeared as a gigantic furry head squeezed through the doorway, with glittering pink eyes larger than a wunderkind's head.

Lauren smiled proudly. "Say hello to my big friend!"

Sam stares at the giant ferret, barely able to speak. "Um..."

He looks between Lauren and the Ambassador, before finally able to get enough thought together to form a (mostly) coherent sentence. "Um...I...um...I don't think he's gonna fit, Lauren. He can't shrink too?"

Ambassador Leafshade began to wriggle her way through the door.

"She already had to shrink to fit in. Don't worry about it, it'sOOF" No one ever found out what precisely it was, since, with Lauren concentrating on the conversation, Ambassador Leafshade simply continued what she was doing: making her way up the central aisle of the flare drive. The fact that Lauren was in the aisle was a matter of little importance, and so Lauren received a faceful of fur found herself knocked off her feet into one of the seats.

"This mere flaredrive is too small to contain the full glory of the forest," Ambassador Leafshade said smugly.

Lauren gave Ambassador Leafshade an annoyed look and muttered, "That sounded better in my head..." Aloud she said, "Okay, maybe a bit smaller" She closed her eyes and concentrated, and Ambassador Leafshade shrank down so that she only occupied half the aisle, leaving the wunderkind enough space to make their way past her. "It's still pretty cool, though! If we ever hafta go someplace small enough, we could ride her!"

Enzo turned a bit red at Kid's reply. He actually knew very well that it did describe them all, and it was actually intentional on his part. However, he was spared his dilemma, whether or not to retort her statement, by the appearance of a large fuzzy animal, larger than the flaredrive itself.

"What the he-"

He had been sitting half in the ilse, so Ambassador leafshade's pushing in bowled Enzo back into his seat. He cracked his head lightly on the wall. He rubbed the back of his head while watching the little thing compress itself a bit further.

"Owww..."

He wanted to yell at Lauren, but honestly didn't feel up to it. He was tired and his head hurt and he didn't want to start a fight and start up trouble. Still, though...

"Why is he still so big?"

As the honored Ambassador pushes his way into the flare drive, the sudden 'crack' pulls Sam's attention. "...Hey, are you okay, Enzo? That sounded like it hurt. You need any ice or anything? I think maybe we brought some...

"Oh, an'...I guess he's still big in case we needa ride him somewhere, Lauren said?" Watching the giant ferret settle in, Sam keeps from saying more about what he thinks; he looks really unwieldy, but so long as Lauren can keep better control of him, Sam won't complain. He does look kind of cute in an 'oh god please don't eat my head' sort of way.

Darren was the last one to enter the bus. "What are you doin' making that thing that big?" he demanded of Lauren, putting his hands on his hips petulantly. One of his arms, the others may notice, now sports a circular shield - not large, but certainly solid-looking. "Sorry I took so long," he added, looking around at the others. "I don't think the closet likes me no more after I tried to get that gun out of it that one time. I had to go through a whole damn stupid thing before I could get my shield. Might help, though." He continued to look around at his surroundings. "I like the new digs. So...what can't we do now that we're like this? Aren't files s'posed to not work the same when they get compressed?"

(OOC: Sorry about the no-posty. Coming off a week from hell kinda thing. Got another one next week, too, but I'll try to keep up on this better.)

Emily's initial response to Ambassador Leafshade had been a small yelp. Ferrets were not meant to be that big. Or she wasn't meant to be this small. Either way, the bus seemed quite a bit smaller with the central aisle so thoroughly occupied. She was just glad she'd found a seat before people started getting knocked about. Darren's question got her thinking a bit more on the topic, "I don't know," she said, "I mean, just keeping our brains running should be taking up an awful lot of processing power. Maybe we're running more slowly?" That didn't make a great deal of sense, since she hadn't spotted any difference between compressed and uncompressed people beyond size. It was a bit of a mystery, really.

Well, that was awkward. Max had pulled his legs in close to him, getting his feet off the floor, giving Ambassador Leafshade a wide berth. Man, in addition to a smaller body, that thing needed a smaller name.

And then Darren showed up. "Yeah, I asked the same thing earlier and never got much of a response. I guess if no one's feeling weird, that's a good thing."

Finally, Janet walks in, placing her hands on her hips. "Okay, Lauren. I like her too and all, but she's still way too big. Come on, let's get her down."

Lauren sighed dramatically, "Oh alright." Lauren concentrated again, and Ambassador Leafshade looked disappointed as she shrank down to about the size of an abnormally long housecat, and climbed up into Lauren's lap. Lauren patted the Ambassador on her head and comforted her, "Don't worry, you were very impressive."
