Alex blinked as she realized what Sam'd notice, and she nodded as he told her. The others seemed occupied with Thirteen appearing, which wasn't a surprise, and although she'd very much like to talk with the mysterious girl, having Kid just walking away like that... Had she seen something?

"W-wait for me!" she yelped as Sam told her he was going after her, and she hurried over to the small beach, clambering up from the water, looking around before shaking out the worst of the water that made the wetsuit cling to her body... It wasn't cold or anything, but she still felt pretty uncomfortable dripping wet. She hurried after Sam as fast as she could.

As Sam runs, and Alexis shakes herself off, Kid continues to walk. Alexis' suit returns to it's normal composition in a moment, completely dry.

Kid, however, continued to walk...Not really tranced, but definitely distracted. She ignores Sam, and continues to walk towards the forest.

Max raises an eyebrow, not sure what to make of Thirteen's startled reaction. Of all the ways he could think of to describe her, 'unsure of what's going on around her' didn't seem like it should be applicable. Although she does seem like she might be prone to bouts of preoccupation.

"Umm.... we're out here on a scouting/camping mission. Your theme song and aura of tinglyness and Enzo's special intel powers helped us find you. Emmy called out to you, but you didn't say anything, so..." Max turns around in the air to look in the direction Thirteen had been staring earlier, while maneuvering to hover beside her rather than in front with his back to her. "What's so fascinating up here, anyway? What'd you think we might be here for? I didn't think much actually happened out here."

Thirteen looks back one last time, and then turns back to Max. "No, it's...Don't concern yourself with it. Shall we return to shore?"

Without waiting for a response, she begins heading for the shore, where everyone save Kid, Alexis, and Sam wait.

Emily opted to find herself a comfortable seat along the shoreline after laying down her pack. It looked like they weren't quite on to leisure time yet, which was a bit of a shame, but no matter.

"She's back, huh?" Darren commented, having dropped his crap on the shoreline within easy earshot of the others. "Mysterious yeah, hard to find no, I guess. Maybe this time she'll do more than just keep me confused?"

Well, the shore was as good as any other place, Silvie guessed. However, there was just one problem...

"Hey," she started, "Aren't we missing a few people?"

Alexis was, indeed, following after and catching up with Sam, looking towards the forest. "H-Hey..." she tried to call out, clearly not loud enough, "K-Kid? Where are you going!?"

Max was taking an extra couple minutes to get back to the lakeshore. He was curious what could have Thirteen preoccupied, and yet at the same time be totally unimportant.

Oh well, at least she was being sociable.

As he descends, Max hears Silvie's question, and surveys the group to find that they are, in fact, missing a few people. He floats back up a bit, and notices Kid is wandering off, with Sam, Enzo, and now Alexis in pursuit.

"Yeah, they're back there... heading for the forest? What the heck are they doing?"

"Um...I dunno." Janet says, shooting a glance back that way.

Thirteen just nods to herself, as if thinking about something.

"How come? Did you see something? Or d'you just wanna explore?" Sam speeds up a little, trying to catch up to Kid's side. "If you wanna explore, maybe we can go with you. I bet there's a lotta neat stuff to see here!"

Sam races to catch up to Kid, before she snaps to face him.

In the same motion, she grabs him, twists it- And him- around, and sweeps his legs out from under him, but flips him so he lands on his back before hitting the ground. As he collides, he notices it actually doesn't even hurt. It's just a vague sense of vertigo...At least, until she strikes him on the chest with her palm. Still, even that didn't hurt.

Kid stands quickly, and darts away into the woods.

Sam:
Spoiler:
Despite the blows, collision with the groun, and getting smacked, you're in no pain. ...Your legs are asleep, though. It's going to be a minute before you can stand.

Enzo:
Spoiler:
Sam's status has just changed to "Disabled"!

"...Hey! What was that for?!" He starts to get to his feet to chase after her, before collapsing back to the ground. "...Huh?" He calls out to Kid, looking up as he tries to stand, but his legs just don't seem to want to cooperate. "Hey, what'd you do? That's cheating!"

"Woah, woah, woah! What the Hell!?"

Max starts to take off, but stops suddenly. He looks back to his sister, and shouts "Emmy, check on Sam!" Or you, if you get there first, Enzo. Then he boosts off for real, towards Kid. He flies directly over her, and hovers in front of her, blocking her path, but making sure to maintain enough distance that he can outmaneuver her if she decides to go all kung-fu on him. Hopefully.

"What the fuck is your problem, Kid?"

"You're not real." Kid says. "None of this is real. I'm imagining all of this. This can't be real."

Without another word, she activates her XLR8 system, and starts zipping along the path, well into the forest. And despite flight, there's no way Max can keep up with that.

He nods, trying to sit up, at least. "Yeah, didn't hurt or nothing. My legs feel all funny, though. Like I slept on them funny or something. They feel all...floppy." He stares off after Kid, back in the direction she ran. "How come she attacked me, though? How come she said this wasn't real? Is she okay?"

Max looks back after Kid, still able to tell where she is even after he can no longer see her, thanks to Enzo's link. He's having difficulty figuring out the correct balance of anger and empathy he should be feeling right now.

His expression softens a little. "Well... it's kind of a lot to take in. You know? Within the past couple days, she's been eaten by a shark and transplanted into a whole new freaky world... she hasn't had as much time to come to terms with it as the rest of us..."

Max pauses a consider the best next course of action. He then turns and approaches Sam and Emily. "I dunno, maybe we should give her some alone time before we go after her? Thanks to Enzo, and probably Thirteen, we can keep tabs on where she is."

Alexis stopped right in her tracks as Kid disabled Sam, unable to believe her eyes she looked around, bewildered, and then got really, really angry. Not listening to any of the others, she set off into the forest, after Kid, a disappointed and frustrated look on her face as she darted between trees and shrubberies, eyes tracing the surrounding to find any trace she might have left. She'd never been angry like this before, but she'd heard what the girl had told Max, and she didn't like it.

Alexis runs for the forest, and as she reaches the boarder of it, one of Thirteen's portals appears, and the girl steps out of it.

Alexis stopped in her tracks and actually glared at Thirteen, but then she ran out of angry-juice and her shoulders sagged, her face turning sad and confused. "Leave her? B-but she's... she hit Sam! And said we weren't real!" she throws up her arms in despair.

"C-can't you talk to h-her?"

Alexis chewed on her lip and looked back at the others, then at Thirteen, and the forest in which Kid had disappeared. She looked on the verge of tears, but nodded, biting them back and turned around to head back to camp. "...A-alright..." she seemed to accept Thirteen's words for it, but she looked... down when she came back to the others, her shoulders slumped and her head sunk low.

As Alexis mopes off back towards the lake shore, Max looks at her with sadness. What a shame... just when she was starting to lighten up and enjoy herself. Well, at least this turn of events showed that the team could count on her to get serious and motivated when they need her to, rather than all blubbery and sentimental.

Max looks at Thirteen, with much more gravity than usual. "Well... I guess we're in agreement. We should discuss what do do about this as a group, and you need to tell us what the Hell is going on out here that's got you so... distracted."

Max turns and walks toward Sam and Emily, and kneels beside them. "Hey, Sam, can you sit up? You want a piggyback ride back to camp?"

Alexis came up to Sam and hunched down, hugging her knees tightly as she pursed her lips, "A-are you okay, Sam?" she gave him a worried look, and then glanced at Max and the others, "w-why did she do that? I-I thought we were just starting to get along..."

Sam, with some help from the others, gets back to the suggested campsite at the lake shore. Everyone's once again gathered, and Thirteen's gaze keeps finding it's way back to the sky. Finally, she speaks.

"Don't blame her. It's not her fault. There was a venom in her blood when she was converted into one of us, and now it is effecting her programming."

She turns towards the forest, before gesturing to her side, where a weird, semi-transparent screen pops into existence, showing an image of a viscous shark with no eyes, but two rows of spines on it's head. "This is a Porcupine Shark." Thirteen says. "Recently, it's evolved a powerful neurotoxin that it transmits through bites. This is what bit Kid. She believes that she is halucinating, because the toxin has become part of her programming."

(Everyone is together again, near the lake. Sorry for the brooming, but trying to hurry things up a little bit and give more people an opportunity to speak.)

"Wait, what?" Emily asked, staring at Thirteen, "That's terrible! Isn't there anything we can do to help her?"

Attacking Sam aside, she'd been ready to cut Kid some slack, and give her a bit of time to think. But with this new revelation, she had to wonder if that would be enough. Leaving her alone with whatever hallucinations or delusions the toxin was inspiring just seemed wrong. But what could they do if she regarded them as figments of her imagination?

Enzo sat quietly, looking pensive as Thirteen explained the situation to them. In theory, Enzo could try to help Kid. In practice? He didn't begin to want to try. He was pretty good at programming now, as their lessons had progressed and as he'd continued to devour virtual texts on the subject, but the idea still scared the hell out of him. Kid, like the rest of them, was a very complex series of programs and files. More than that they were their own mobile virtual file structures, which was completely unheard of before the wunderkind had been invented, as far as Enzo knew. The potential to screw up and kill her was overwhelming. No, Enzo wasn't going to volunteer himself for that. Not unless someone even less qualified jumped and and volunteered first, anyway. At any rate, Thirteen said she might be able to do it. That was worth learning about and possibly pursuing.

"Are you sure you'd be able to fix her?"

While they talked, he tried to get a fix on Kid. She hadn't responded well to his group connection in the past, but it was all he could do at the moment.

Lauren paced back and forth, twisting a pigtail around the fingers of her right hand. It was insane! "Can you fix this while she's running away? Can we still track her? We can't lose her out here!" Lauren kicked at the dirt angrily. "I know I can keep up with her. Maybe even move faster, since she's had less time to practice and we're just sitting here talking while she's getting further away!"

"Even if you could keep up, it wouldn't be worth it." Thirteen says, staring at the sky yet again. "She's only do the same to you as she did to Sam."

Thirteen thinks a moment, then nods to herself. She opens a small portal and reaches through. She doesn't take long digging around before pulling her hand back out, with a pair of pink hairbands pinched between her fingers. Wordlessly, she offers them to Lauren.

Lauren yanked her right hand free of her hair painfully. "You can't know that!" She stamped her foot, put her hands on her hips and glared at Thirteen as she rummaged in her portal. "She wouldn't know I was coming...look, you just don't let family run away from you..." She trailed off as the unexpected offering completely derailed her rant.

"Why are..." Her memory raced through all the stories she had read, all the heroes she'd admired, and one thing was perfectly clear: You do not refuse gifts from the Lady of the Lake. She took the hairbands slowly, then sighed and sat down, drawing her knees up to her chest. "I'm sorry," she said in a small voice, "I'm sure you've got a plan and all, but...I just don't like leaving her all alone"

Alexis just sighed, deeply, and looked at Thirteen and Lauren. "How are we going to reprogram her?" she asked with an upset tone, looking at the pink hairbands, "This wunderkind project is really advanced and complicated, how could we do something like that? Even with what we've learned?"

She glanced at Sam and bit her lip, remaining quiet after that.

"We're not. But we can't rescue our sister without some sort of plan. And I might not be able to help her. But you can." She turned to focus on Lauren again. "You and she are closer than you know. You are of the same Archetype. There is a lot in common, and that may just be key."

Lauren:
Spoiler:
Those bands don't quite feel normal. They make your hand feel even more tingly.

Enzo:
Spoiler:
Kid is reaching the far end of your link range. But you can remember the path she's taken thus far- Into the forest, first left split, then the next left, deeper still into the digital forest.

Lauren's hand tightened around the hairbands. She looked down at them thoughtfully for a moment, then shrugged and began to put them on her pigtails over the ribbons. "Are these part of the plan? What are they, anyway?"

Enzo looked over to the rest of them.

"I've been able to keep track of her so far, but she's getting towards the edge of my ability to sense her. If we're going to do something, it would be better to do it sooner than later... Or else... hm."

Enzo paused for a minute while he thought. He had an ability now that he and the others couldn't have taken advantage of as humans: They could reliably stay in contact, coordinate plans and relay map locations while at significant distance from one another.

"... Actually, I think that Lauren should start going after Kid. I can connect the lot of us together, showing her where to go while she's en route to Kid and we can form a plan while she's in pursuit. Once we have a fully formed plan, we can coordinate and execute it. Just like we were designed to handle any other mission."

He'd wait, to give Thirteen a chance to cry foul, but he honestly didn't expect her to. It was about time that he was truly useful to the group. He was already sizing up Kid's archetype and it's digital capabilities in his mind, looking for ways to counter them and subdue her without causing unnecesary harm.
