The glow continued from her eyes, illuminating the scene and giving it a softer, gentler look. The boy who had asked if Faya was going to be all right raced off, entering another alley and heading out. Calynpen's hands, gentle and delicate, were pressed against the injury, though she didn't seem under concious control of herself.
Stop the blood, heal the bone...
Miraculously, the bone under her hand began to shift. Faya whimpered, clutching at Calynpen's knee without seeming aware of it. The skull reshaped itself, becoming whole and strong again, though tears of pain and exhaustion were trickling down the healer's face. Then, the blood began clotting, forming scar tissue and then reshaping itself into new, soft and slightly transluscent skin. The entire thing took place in only a few minutes, long enough for the boy to return, swinging a small brown sack.
"Thanks, Raf," Calynpen said hoarsely, the glow dimming from her eyes, but not completely gone. In a trance-like state, she took out cloth from the bag, and a small jar of some salve or other. She smeared the liniment against the scrap of cloth, then pressed it to Faya's head, tying it in place with a few deft twists of twine. The string was tight enough to keep it in place, but loose enough not to cause pain.
Faya was in a deep sleep now, and Calynpen sat there, the glow finally fading. Her stomach growled, and Raf raced off again. Three more injured gang members, each with slashes at their arms or bodies, gathered near Calynpen. The others, though nicked or bruised in places, weren't so badly hurt.
Calynpen remained normal, just using the lotion and bandages instead of whatever magic she had done before, and was finishing off the last binding when Raf returned with some bread and cheese, along with a small skin of milk. The elf devoured it ravenously.
