Sorune heard this coming from the back room, and decided to pay a visit to Saori. Whether she liked it or not, he took a seat at the table, across from her.
"I take it my e-mail got through. Glad to see you on the case, Saori." He said with a quick smile.

"Levelling would probably be best," Alyrra replied, twitching her own wings as well. "That guy looked pretty daunting, if he got mad at us." She reached into her pouch for a scrap of fabric, using it to tie her hair back loosely.

"Well I know of some areas to fight monsters. I'll block their attacks and you can hit them with what ever you have." Kite said. He walked Alyrra back to the log on plat form. Before they stepped onto the plateform Kite said, "You can lead us around once we're there."

Kite steppped on and said, "Shadow Forrest."

Saori slowly looked up at the player raising a eyebrow. She let out a sigh and shook her head."What do you want Sorune? Surely you aren't involved in this little fiasco?" She looked back down to her papers not saying a word more.

"People can surprise you then. I've gotten caught up in this fiasco...and it's a tad more severe than I let on in my e-mail. Want the entire story?" Sorune had a slight smile on his face. "All I want is a promise that you'll help us with whatever is going on."

Reht awoke in the middle of the night, as the fire burned low. His HP and other such things had fully rebuilt, and there was no sign of Sorune. He sighed, and began talking to himself.
"Well, let's see. I'm unarmed, except for a few throwing daggers, some basic spells, and my raw strength. My employer is gods know where, looking for a person who just deystroyed half a mountain using gods know what. My best weapon was smashed by an undead monstrosity, and is now buried by the mountain that was smashed. So what am I sitting around here for?"
A small, cynical part of his OOC nature replied, "because you're still an idealist at heart, and the persona you affect here is infuenced by that".
With a sigh, Reht scrambled to his feet, and began working his way to a town where the local blacksmith owed him a few favors. Step one was getting a good weapon.

((OOC: Away for longer than anticipated. Sorry. But I'm back now!))

Saori let out a sigh as she looked up at Sorune folding her arms over her chest. "You make it sound like I have no feelings." She ruffled her black wings and slowly nodded. "well go ahead, I haven't had to deal with Ver...." She paused as if realizing something. "I haven't dealt with a decent case in a while."

The Amber Oracle Clan

Postby Blaze Yamato Spirit » Mon Dec 02, 2002 1:09 pm

~~~
Men'drakk'ar sat with the other players that currently made up the Amber Oracle clan, explaining the situation to them as best they could. Each of the clan's members were true roleplayers - one of a number of things they had in common, perhaps the other most important one being that they all played Fallions, which made explaining at least twice times as difficult and time consuming.
'And that is the end of my tale. I seek counsel on this issue - and I also seek your pledges of assistance should it become necessary.' Men'drakk'ar concluded.
'This Verios', Carim'ab'ran enquired, 'how can we hope to go against him?'
Men'drakk'ar noted with some satisfaction that his tale had been accepted as truth by the founding member of the clan.
'I do not know yet, honourable elder, but like all magics, this item of his must have a catch, flaw, or weakness that we could exploit. I hope to make contact with him again, and acquire through the meeting any information that might be used against him.'
'That is all very well, spirit warrior, but can you be sure that you will survive the encounter?' The speaker was Nekiri'chi, a female warrior. Her tone sounded slightly condescending, but Men'drakk'ar knew that she was merely concerned for his wellbeing.
'I cannot say whether I shall.'
'But if he is as powerful as you say, it could be the Ultimate Ending for you.'
'A risk I am willing to take, if it will help ensure the safety of the world, Nekiri'chi. The actions of one may further the goals of many.'
'Be sure to make sure that the actions of one do not do the opposite, Men'drakk'ar.'
Postby Dragon Sage007 » Mon Dec 02, 2002 5:47 pm
"I know you have feelings, Saori. I just wanted to make certain that you would help. The tale starts today..." Sorune began telling the story, beginning with when he first met Verios at the login point, asking Reht to help him find out what was so suspicious, and meeting Verios again later, with the odd prophecy that he made. He followed that up with the discovery of blood at town, while attempting to track down Verios into the woods, and finally catching up with him at the next town, going to Gaia's cleft.
"Saori, Gaia's cleft is where this tale gets....odd. I know that finding blood in itself is unusual, but Gaia's cleft...it was completely empty of monsters when I came. The traps were easily stopped. And when I finally came upon his companion, Ethra, he was nowhere to be found. Until, of course, Ethra opened a chest and found a weapon, where he began gloating about his 'treasure'. He admitted that he could die. He admitted that he could live through that death. It wasn't reconnecting. It was true death. He then called a bone dragon upon us, and we fought that off for a while. When it looked like we were beginning to gain the upper hand, he called it off....and began a cave-in. A true cave-in, not spells of any kind. It took all my strength to keep it from collapsing on the other players, and I had to reconnect. That's when I sent out the e-mail, found the others again, and came to the watcher HQ. This last bit is speculation...but if you'd been there, it would make more sense. I'm not crazy, though I wish I were. This relic that Verios gained....I know it isn't natural, not something that was programmed. I..." Sorune began faulting at his words.
~Might as well get it over with.~
"I think it was magic. And that makes the situation far more dire than any of us can realize. Even more than Verios, whom I suspect is a mere pawn. More than I, and I doubt even my own words now."
Ethra smiled as she finished materializing. "Good to be back, Now then... what to do..."
How about look for Verios?
And have some horrible fate befall you?
Well you have something more exciting to do?
Eh.
It's settled then, let's go check out that bartender he was talking to last time.
With those thoughts, Ethra went to the bar she had followed Verios to earlier.
Saori stared at Sorune for a moment taking in the story, after a while she stood up and pushed in her chair. She turned her gaze to a paper on her desk then back to Sorune.
"Tell me Sorune, do you not consider the spells cast by players magic?" She paused for a moment then continued before he answered. "The truth behind the matter is every character has Magical skills when they start this game. But those who have played for as long as Verios, well... Are much more complicated a story. Consider this, when Reyta first came out it was fairly simple compared to how it is today. And during that time a player could tap into their spells with ease. Tossing fireballs and healing allies, or whatever. But those who grasped this concept the most seemed to advance faster than others." She paused for a moment looking at Sorune. "My point is this, when Verios first logged on he was a excellent roleplayer as you will and he seemed to understand spell casting as if he had studied it all his life. He quickly gained levels and began to summon monsters with ease. While stealing from towns sometimes he would summon a wolf like monster that was more human than monster dare I say. It was when he first summoned him in a town that I was brought in to deal with him. Despite my superior level and skill, Verios was almost even with me when his wolf attacked with him."
She paused once more letting out a sigh. "I believe he had put his heart into creating that wolf and considered it more his friend than any player. I can safely say this as how he reacted when I had to disband it.... I had to seal it away in a summoning realm due to its hostility towards nearly everyone. When I did this however... He literally was crushed.... He broke down like I had never seen any player before and just outright cried.... I couldn't bear the sight of it and I walked away without a word. I still remember his face, so grief stricken...." She paused again looking down at her hands." My point is, I don't think he has ever established a friendship with any player since then. And further more, I believe this artifact is far more than it seems. Perhaps a symbol from a higher power... Or maybe even from something within the game..."
She sighed heavily and looked to Sorune. "Anyway... I must speak with the player he went in Gaia's cleft with. I need to ask her a few things...."
Sorune gets his expected response.
Postby Dragon Sage007 » Mon Dec 02, 2002 11:19 pm
~I knew it. I said too much, too quickly.~
"She's probably at a hotel in town. Good luck, she's as stubborn as a mule." Sorune got up, and said only a few words more before departing. "And I'll be in the forest with the others if you need me. Just don't underestimate Verios. I don't think he's restricted by level anymore." Sorune calmly started walking out the door.
~Looks like it really is down to just those that were present. Which seems to be Reht and those others that were at Gaia's Cleft....How can we stop him? That relic....perhaps.... perhaps the relic itself is the key to stopping all this.~
Sorune stopped walking right before he left the room.
"And try to keep safe, Saori. I don't want you or anyone else hurt while trying to stop him, even if all he can do is cause people to reconnect. And if nothing else, try to find where he lives. See if everything is alright at his home."
~Which I severely doubt. And I also doubt that he'll be content with reconnecting for much longer. And I doubt that I'll be able to stop him from killing. I seem to be doubting alot now....but I know one thing for certain. This is not right. Something wants us out. And it wants it now.~
With a determined look on his face, Sorune stepped out of the door of Saori's office.
Saori glanced over a paper on her desk let out a sigh. "Perhaps......" She shook her head and pushed the paper away form her. "I need to find him.... Or this girl, but where would he be.... The thieves guild is a likely guess but even I don't know where that is...." She pulled her chair out and slumped down into it crossing her arms trying to think.
Verios grumbled as he looked up from the table he was laying at and noticed a few more thieves had taken up in the guild. He shook his head before leaning back down on his arms, drifting off into a silent dream.......
New sword! Tjord!
Postby JoshuaDurron » Tue Dec 03, 2002 11:48 am
((OOC: Rhyming subject lines > you))
It had taken almost three hours of walking around, speaking with merchants he knew to gather the resources he needed for a new weapon. He had finally settled on a simple longsword, and had then used his remaining resources to have a number of enchantments put on it. It couldn't shift between light and dark elementals, but it would be more effective as a Machina blade, and it could also act as a battery for Ki, allowing him to build up a greater reserve than had been previously possible.
Weapon at his side, he paid a quick visit to the bank to replenish his money, and then to the potion vendors, do resupply. He then headed back to the forest to men Sorune. Hopefully the druid was ready to start looking again.
Men'drakk'ar stood at the Amber Oracle clan's private login point, making his final farewells, as he might not return for some time.
'Farewell Nekiri'chi.'
'Farewell Men'drakk'ar. Safe journey, happy resolution, timely return.'
He smiled as she hugged him. It was an unexpected but welcome gesture.
'Thankyou, Kiri...'
'Men'drakk'ar! Before you leave, I have a gift for you.' The speaker was Gelimmreet the Spirit Talker. 'May it help you on your quest, as it has helped me.' The wizened Fallion presented the larger warrior with a red prism. Ethereal lights danced within it's center.
'The spirit heart? I cannot accept such a generous offer.'
'For the good of all you will take it. I cannot tell you how to use it - it's secrets must be discovered by you and you are alone. When the mortal heart aligns with that of the spirit, the symbol will sing.'
Men'drakk'ar nodded as he slipped the ruby into a pouch at his belt.
'Farewell all. I shall not return until this is resolved, unless I require desperate aid.' He stepped onto the currently inactive login point, and spke aloud the password. It hummed into life, and he spoke the destination: "Gaia's Cleft".
Arriving in the forest around the cleft, he set off in the direction of the camp site.
When Men'drakk'ar returned to the campsite, Reht was there waiting for him, his new blade leaning on his knee, and smoke rising from a pipe that dangled from his lips.
Reht seemed to realize the Fallion was there, but was intent on something else for several minutes. Finally, his eyes regained focus, and he looked at the cat creature. "Welcome back. Was your trip productive?"
They might know where he would go." With that the tender walked into the back room a small click of a lock barely able to be heard.
'Very productive, thankyou.'
The Fallion crouched on the opposite side of the fire, his slitted eyes glowing eerily in the flames' light. He was silent for some time, his gaze following the hypnotic patten of the fire's dance.
'Smoking is bad for your health, you know.'
Reht sat thoughtfully tapping his longsword on the ground. "Verios was a theif, right? If I was a megalomaniac looking for a good power base, and I knew where the theif's guild was, I might start by taking that over. I've done some work with that guild before. Know where a few of their meeting places are. It might be a place to start."
"Good to know the two of you have a plan. But we've got to wait a while for answers again." Sorune stepped out from behind the tree he had been listening from. "First, we may or may not get help from the watchers. If we don't, then it's up to the three of us. If we do, then we stand a much better chance. In any case, one of us will have to stay here to meet them. Second, we don't have a single clue as to Verios' wherabouts. Even if we did, I wouldn't go to where he is. Not yet. Not while...all of us have unanswered questions. And third, where are the other two that were apparently in the cave as well?" Sorune said all this mechanically, as if he had memorized a speech.
~Unanswered questions indeed. Such as, how far does this altering of the world go?~ Sorune looked impassive as he awaited a response, but inside he was trembling. ~Could it reach Earth? Could it go farther? Could Verios....could he become a God? I've got to stop this wondering....it'll cause me to have a heart attack from worry. I'm too dramatic. But I'm still worried....~
Kite lead Alyrra back to the login point.
"Alyrra don't follow me, I'm going to go kill a large creature to get money to get a better weapon, and or some enchantments to put on my weapon." Kite said as he stepped onto the platform. "Black Forrest," with that said Kite disappeared.
Kite reappeared in Black Forrest and it was black, almost so dark he couldn't see. He was a high level thief so he could see well in the dark. Yet it was still hard for him to see. He snuck around for a while to find the mob he was looking for.
Finally he spotted it, he drew out his dagger the blade was made for assassination, quick soundless deadly strikes. Kite got around to the raptor like creatures back. With a quick lunge Kite hopped onto it's back and stabbed the creature neck. Forcing the dagger towards him self (OOC: him being on the back, you are all smart people you understand). Graphic blood poured out of it's neck when Kite ripped the dagger out of the left side of it's throat leaving a huge seven to eight inch deep gash. The creature lay on the ground dead. A huge pile of gold was resting on the ground next to it. Kite grabbed the gold and ran back to the log in point.
"Shadow Forrest," Kite disappeared again he arrived at the forest stepped off the platform and said, "I'm gonna go grab stuff, you head onto Gia's Cleft you'll be alright you're high enough to stand up to creatures there. The people from that cave collapse should still be there or at least someone should be there. I'll meet you there."
Kite stepped back on the platform, “Town of Karabo” and Kite once again disappeared. He looked at the town. His character had really started his higher-level stuff here, so the place was like a second home, most old characters, and all of the npcs knew him. Kite ran to the weapons dealer.
He looked at the selection before him.
“Hello Kite so glad to see you again,” the npc said to him.
“Hello, do you have anything you haven’t had time to put up on the walls yet?” Kite asked.
“Actually I do.”
The npc led him to the back room where Kite spotted two glorious daggers. They were the same type as the one he already had but they were lighter and they were made to go on the inside of his sleeves and released by a triggering mechanism that popped them right into your hand.
“I’ll take these!” Kite said as he swapped them up. Kite had just enough to get them. He sold the dagger he already had giving him enough to buy a black trench coat, and new pants.
Kite stepped out with the daggers up his sleeves ready to be released. Kite stood there wearing a black trench over a tight black shirt, some loose fitting jeans, and Converse on his feet.
He ran back to the log in, “Gia’s Cleft”, with that he was gone.
Alyrra was already at Gaia's Cleft, experimenting with a variety of spells against a hobgoblin-like creature with gray skin. Her foe was already bruised, singed, and bleeding from earlier attacks, but the mage finished him off with a small, crackling ball of energy.
