Silvie didn't know what she was chanting, but she knew that if Ettezan wasn't stopped, then it could be bad. Real bad. So, she did what any rational person would do in this situation: she dashed forward and swung the bike at her again, before she could finish off any of that freaky froo froo mage stuff.

Alexis wasn't rightly concerned with what Ettezan was doing, no more than how she felt about the ice stiffening up her joints. God damn cheating son of a...

Hoping she'd be able to at least land a blow within a reasonable amount of time, Alexis strained to reach the ice-queen. If and when she would, a series of fire-enhanced blows to her would be the proper treatment. She wanted to throw out another insult, but right now she was too busy swearing profusely.

As people shot less and attacked Ettezan head on more and more, Enzo decided that maybe his passive support role was less necesary here. They wanted this over as soon as possible so they could start freeing police, so he set to work quickly: He aimed his electro-cane at Ettezan again and let loose with another arc of electricity. Meanwhile, he messaged Janet back and the HQ:

Are the bosses familiar with what's going on? I'm not sure if these policemen have enough air to last them while we fight Ettezan. Also I don't know where to begin on the guys who aren't in cars. I hope they're not dead...

Well, clearly there wasn't going to be an end to this until somebody was cut down. Hopefully Ettezan, but she certainly hadn't fallen over so far, despite everyone piling in. Which raised a disturbing thought. What if Ettezan wasn't operating on her own? Sure she seemed like a loner, but if there was someone else around, they'd have a clear run at Casey.

She hated to leave the others on their own, but better they know if Ettezan was just a distraction for someone else - Oh, now that was just too good an opportunity to pass up. Emily reoriented herself and cranked the boosters up, intent on snatching Ettezan's sword out of the air where she'd so carelessly flung it.

The children close in on Ettezan, who throws a single hand into the air, cold energy pulsing off of it and super chilling the air. "Do you feel that chill running down your spine!?" She cackles, as she prepares a huge blast of ice magic!

(Ettezan is casting Howling Blast! RUN FOR COVER. Everyone's action is reset!)

Emmy grabs the runeblade as it hovers in the air, and finds that, while she CAN move it, it is EXTREMELY heavy and will slow her down substantially!

As Ettezan channels her magic, Sam shoulders his rifle, ducking behind the bulk of the APC to take cover. After their last fight, he's not going to take any chances with her ice magic.

Well, Emily had the sword now. She wasn't going to abandon it just because stealing it might be a little difficult. Setting her boosters to full burn and hauling the dratted thing behind her through brute force, she made for the exit.

There wasn't any helping it, Alexis would be caught square in the blast of ice, and she wasn't very fond of the idea, not at all. So in a quick motion she slid in the Opposite-chip in her wrist, a wave of cold sweeping over her in an instant... And with her gun ready she began to run backwards, aiming and, if she had the time, firing at Ettezan with it.

A cold wind swirls through the air with increasing intensity, as the charge of icy magic Ettezan has collected builds further and further. She raises her hand, and prepares to slam it down to finish her Howling Blast, but can't resist one more quip- "You kids really should have brought warmer clothes! Your tights won't save you from THIS!"

Ettezan slams her fist down as the children- as many as possible- jump behind cover. There are, however, two unfortunates who can only watch as a wave of blistering cold washes over their metallic bodies- Emmy, who was too weighed down by Ettezan's sword, and Alexis, who's iced up joint prevented her from moving fast enough.

As it clears, the entire room is coated in a thin sheet of ice. The walls, the ceiling, the floor, everything except for small areas behind the junk piles, and a larger area behind the mech, are iced over. There's a lump on the floor- Alexis, frozen with a small block of ice like the police. And like them, she seemed to be frozen solid inside, not moving, not responding. Not far, lying on the floor, was Emmy. She was, luckily, unfrozen. She seemed hardly damaged, even. That was probably a good thing!

And most importantly, Ettezan was gone, but Emmy still has a firm grip on her sword.

(COMBAT IS OVER Because honestly I wasn't feeling it and I want to get moving. SPOILERS AHEAD. PLEASE DO NOT READ ANYONE ELSES SPOILERS. DUH.))

Alexis:
Spoiler:
You find yourself sitting in a cold field, with a heavy snow falling. You can feel it as cold, yet you yourself are quite comfortable. Sitting across from you is...You. Except, not you. You can clearly see the other's body is slightly transparent and blue, smooth and seamless, as if carved from a single piece of ice into a perfect statue of your old body. It seems to be looking you over, before it smiles and gives a small wave. "Hi!"

Emmy:
Spoiler:
You feel quite cold. Not at all hurt, just very, very chilly. There's a brief, lingering image of a young girl in your mind, standing on a frozen mountain, and looking sadly at you. She carries a frozen stuffed rabbit, and is clearly frost bittern and probably more than a little...Dead.

Everyone Else:
Spoiler:
Alexis is completely frozen up and non-responsive in her ice block. Emmy is extremely cold to the touch, and on top of that, her right eye and a streak of her hair have turned light blue. She's so cold, you can see the air cooling around her.

After the dramatic conclusion of Ettezan's icy blast, Enzo comes out form hiding behind some rubble and quickly assess the area. It was... not good. Alexis was down, Emma look like she'd at least been grazed, and the target was gone.

Lost contact with the target. Casey, where are you on the install? More importantly, are you still alone up there? Max, have a look around. See if Ettezan is still lurking about from the sky. I'll look at Emma right after I check on Alexis.

He ran over to Alexis, and after some tells over their wireless connections went unanswered he started punching his way through the ice between him and the back of her neck. Maybe her connection device was broken. Maybe she was shut down right now. Either way, he could talk to her once this was done and get a better idea of her condition. Assuming either of those things was what was wrong, of course.

As the blast fades, Sam looks back out of cover, trying to spot Ettezan. Seeing that she's vanished again, he turns his attention to the other Wunderkind. Most everyone looks fine, but Alexis and Emmy...

His first instinct is to run to Alexis, as she seems to be the worst off, but Enzo's already working at her. Instead, he goes to Emmy, checking what sort of condition she's in. Shaking her a little (and wincing reflexively from the cold, even though it doesn't really hurt exactly), he tries to bring her around. "Emmy? Emmy, wake up! Are you okay?" Just in case it might be causing problems, he glances to the sword. Looking it over and giving it a light scan, he tries to tell if it's connected to the cold.

...Or if maybe it actually protected her from being in the same state as Alexis?

Emily blinked, shaking off the last vestiges of the attack and pushing herself upright, keeping a good grip on the sword, "I'm okay," she assured Sam, "Pretty cold, but yeah, otherwise fine". She expected her breath to steam, but of course she didn't exactly breathe in the conventional sense. And while she might be able to shiver, it would be a conscious thing, rather than a bodily reaction to the cold. This might be a shadow of what it was like to be Ettezan. Forever cold but not physically affected by it. Definitely a thought that brought a shiver. "Yikes," she added, "I hope Alexis is okay in there." Alexis seemed to have taken the brunt of the attack, while she'd come through it fine. The sword perhaps? Almost certainly.

"Hang on, I'm going to try something." If the sword could protect her, perhaps it could also do something about the iceblocks? Sure, Ettezan hadn't seemed to care about letting anyone out, but surely she'd at least want the option. Emily headed over to the frozen wunderkind and, straining with the effort, swung the flat of the blade against the ice.

Casey responds fairly quickly! I'm 'bout half done, then I need ta connect it to th' network. It would be going faster if YALL WERE MORE QUIET DOWN THERE. I'mma 'bout ta grab th' Hackwrench an' go fix yall too!"

Emily swings the blade, and gets...Not much. The ice cracked a bit, but didn't shatter.

Alexis blinked to clear her eyes. Wh... what'd happened? Looking around, she paused, then glanced over at the ice-copy of herself. Raising a hand awkwardly, she tried to smile.

"Hi..."

She bit her lip and then added, "So... am I dead, or...?"

This whole thing felt completely different from back... back then. But she hadn't been dead at that time, so maybe...

Well, at least she wasn't in pain.

"...I want to understand. I'll do it. I'll embrace it, I'm tired of fighting and being angry...."

She closes her eyes and lets the ice wash over her. Her fear of fire is washed away, but it's not the cool, emotionless ice that takes over, it's... relief, peace. She's not locked in the ice,
the ice is just a part of her, an extention of her... and she wants it back.

The cracked ice suddenly trembled and before the ice of everyone watching Alexis seemed to fade away inside it until there wasn't a single trace of her left.
Then, as if melting very quickly, the block of ice began to sink and contort, slowly forming into a perfect replica of Alexis... And not how she usually looked. Gone was the clunk armor, tights...

In their place was a Alexis how she would've looked if she was still alive. But she was ice, all ice, and when she opened his eyes you could barely see it, her entire body almost completely see-through, only white at the core.

Staring as the ice shifts about and reforms, it's hard for Sam not to be terrified at Alexis's disappearance. But when she reforms, a wide grin splits his face. Darting up, he pulls Alexis into a tight hug. "You're okay! What happened? You're...made of ice now? Did Ettezan do something to you, Alexis?"

Alexis is taken completely by surprise by Sam's hug and she gives a startled noise before returning the hug.

"I... no, she didn't do anything. I guess, I sort of decided to..." when she talks, it's like the sound of ice rubbing against ice, "It's a bit complicated. Sorry, I don't know how to explain it..."

She looks over at Silvie and smiles a little, waving, "Yeah, yeah it's me. Sorry if I scared you guys."

"Magic, I guess," Emily said, glad to see Alexis was acting fairly normally, even if she looked like an ice-cube in human form. "I mean, we've seen her throw fire around a fair bit, and Ettezan's been flinging ice and teleporting. This, well, this looks like a less combat-oriented kind of effect. Anyway, I'm going to go try and bust the police out of the ice. That's gotta be top priority here." With that, Emily headed outside, sword in tow, to see if it proved any more effective. She'd cracked Alexis's icy prison with it, maybe she just needed to get a few solid blows in. If nothing else, it was a nice solid object to bludgeon away at the ice with. Hopefully without hurting the poor people any more than they'd already been.

Enzo went to join Emily, hoping to get an officer or two out of a car if he could. He had more hope that they would still be alive than the men completely encased.

Backup is en route. Hopefully they'll have more specialized tools for this, but I'm with Emmy here. Let's see what we can do while we're here.

With Alexis's urging, the entire wall of ice begins to lose a lot of it's frigidness, turning into a wet wall of crackling ice instead of a completely solid glacier.

Just right for striking with a large, blunt object. If someone were to hit the wall in just the right spot, the entire thing would probably shatter...

Emily's swing yields an ungodly loud crack from the entire wall of ice. A small crack forms where she hits...Before it grows. And grows, and grows. And then, the entire wall collapses on itself. The offices suddenly spring back to life, defending themselves from the last thing they saw before frozen- The oncoming wall of ice. None of them look worse for wear, other than probably being freezing cold. They'll all live.

Alexis stepped back and put her hands on her hips. Removing cold felt instinctively bad... if she could, she'd make everyone as cold and comfortable as herself, but she knew they needed the warmth, so she just looked at the officers and then to the other kids.

"I don't think I can keep like this much longer... I'm a half-elemental... I think. I don't know. If I had died at the hospital, I would have become one, but Project Bluesky got to me before it happened."

Sam gapes in astonishment as Alexis and Emily, working together, free the entire wall of policemen in one strike. When Alexis talks, he looks over to her, confused. "Um...oh. Okay...what's an elemental, though?"

Silvie pumped her fist in the air with a loud "Whoop!" once the police were freed, but before she could pitch in, Sam's question caught her attention.

"Everyone knows what an elemental is!" she said, positively aghast that he didn't. "I mean, that's kid stuff. It's a creature that's made of the elements - but not the stuff on the periodic table, I'm talking magic elements, like earth, wind, fire, water...you know, froo froo new age nature stuff."

She felt very proud of her explanation for half a second until she realized that this led to bigger questions.

"But wait," she said to Alexis, "How can you be half-elemental? That sort of stuff only exists in stories- okay, okay, so people say that about kid robots and weird ice powers, but elementals are different."

"... why is Alexis a moving ice sculpture? Ice doesn't even work like that."
