When Alexis comes in, Sam perks up a bit, greeting her with a grin. "Oh, no, it's okay! I kinda guessed that you were busy or something so it's okay. Is everything okay, Alexis?"

Before he can get a response, though, others come in, followed close behind by Rivendare. After the description, Sam seems to be a bit confused himself. He picks up one of the blueprints folders for the building and starts to look over it, piping up after Enzo.

"Um...I guess I...kinda have a question. It...um...it sounds important, but how come Wunderkind are doin' it? It doesn't...um...it doesn't really sound like somethin' only Wunderkind can do..."

"When you think about it, it makes a lot of sense to have you guys do it." Rivendare begins, sipping his coffee. "It would take human workers days to set it up, it would take Casey a couple hours."

"S...so we're m...mechanics now?" Alexis frowns. "I s...see you're put...putting the billions in...invested into the Project B...Blue Sky to good use."

She snorted and and crossed her arms.

"Does... the Wa...Waleford Foundation know th...this is what they invested their money in?"

"It is kinda lame," she admitted. "I mean, where's the action? Where's the adventure? Shouldn't we be out there punching bad guys and kicking villain butt?"

With the question rising among the others too, Sam falls quiet, leaving it to them to talk. It's still pretty obvious he's unsure about things, but he doesn't look especially eager to speak up again on the matter. Not for now, at least.

"It's still the bad season." Rivendare says with a shrug. "Even badguys hate the weather- Seriously, crime rates go down when it's bad out. And besides, you're not just law enforcement; it would take Casey a few hours but it would take us a few days. Maybe weeks."

"Well, the missions can't all be about villainous buttkicking," Emily pointed out, "I mean, there really aren't all that many supervillains out there. Well, not that we know about, anyway." Emily was okay with going out in the field without it being a combat thing. She for one intended to cultivate career paths other than hitting stuff.

Max raises an eyebrow at Alexis's protest. It seems to be... incongruous with her episode from a couple weeks ago. But he doesn't feel like bringing that up in front of Rivendare.

"You know, I like being able to dent steel and shoot a bee off a flower from a mile away, but I also like to think of myself as more than just a multibillion dollar investment in weapons technology."

"Hey, waitaminnit!" Casey says after a moment's thought. "He didn' say YOU was mechanics, he said I was one! And I've always been one, so stop yer complainin, Lex!"

Rivendare raises his hand. "Enough. If you guys don't have any more questions, you'll be deploying at twenty-one hundred hours, so you get the next..." He checks his watch. "...Seven and a half hours to do whatever. We wanted to get you guys notified of this nice and early so you don't have to scramble later on."

He leans back in his chair, sipping his coffee once again.

Enzo sat fidgeting for a moment, and opened his mouth to say something. He didn't get it out, however, as something had just jumped up onto the office table and caught his attention. It was a small blue spider-mech, about the size of a small cat. It rolled up in front of Rivendare, depositing a cracker from beneath it's sensory cluster mounted on it's face, before turning around and dispensing spray cheese on the cracker with a wet sounding puff of compressed air. It cheerily declared "Arigato!", before moving to each of the wunderkind in turn and repeating the process. The little mech alternated between saying "Arigato!" and "Thank you for your patronage." with each stop. It then rolled off the table and quickly left the room.

Enzo stared after it completely baffled.

"Oh, I see you've met Lieutenant Dudley." Rivendare says, munching his cracker and sipping again.

Keeping quiet over the slight argument, Sam still looks a little bothered. When the tiny blue robot emerges, though, and bestows on each of them a pleasant gift of snack, he can't help but snicker, his tension entirely broken.

He looks over to Rivendare, enjoying his own cracker. "What is he?"

Silvie gaped at the little blue robot, before she dropped her cracker and clasped her hands over her mouth.

"That," she squealed, "is so. Freaking. COOL! Hey, hey Rivendere, can they make one for us? Pleeeeeease?"

Emily shrugged and ate her cracker. It seemed rude not to. "Those are some pretty bored robotics techs, alright," she said, "Does it do anything else?" It seemed pretty big to just be a cheese and crackers dispenser.

"Or," she replied, "Or or or, it's got a lot of cheese and crackers."

There was a brief pause.

"Hey, can I get another one?"

Dudley slides over on his tiny wheels, spits out the cracker, and dispenses delicious cheese upon it. "Arigatou!"

And then he slides off again, under the meeting table.

Meanwhile, Rivendare just shrugs at Emily.

Alexis... looked at the robot with confusion and something like anger before she took a deep breath and shook her heads.

"F...fine, I..." she seemed to pause at every time she would stammer, instead breathing in and out to calm herself, "Let us just do this. I do... don't see why we shouldn't."

She takes one of the crackers and eats it up, because, why the hell not.

Mission: 12- Tower Defense
Location: Bicycle Tower, Deck City.
March 5th, 3757
8:32 PM.

Darkness falls that day without too much incident. A heavy rain has begun to fall at abut 6:00, not letting up since, though at least the temperature remains warm. At about 8:00, the children, minus Janet, who's remaining at D-52 to fulfill her Support duties, pack into the APC and move out under police escort. As they approach the massive tower, some may note that it is in a good location, but the monitor they're installing would have to be enormous.

The tower is old, one of the oldest buildings in Deck City. Supposedly it was to be the original location for The Deck, but the design was found to be less than adequate and the project scrapped, only to be completed as a storage facility. Though not as wide at the base as the Deck is, it does manage to be almost as tall, jutting up from the rest of the cityscape a bit.

The Police escort breaks off and sets up a parameter around the tower, as Max and Emily are instructed to drive in. The APC fits easily inside, with more than enough room to move around. The base of the tower is circular, with three hallway-entrances jutting off to the north-west, north-east, and one due south. Piles of junk are scattered around, old relics, bits and pieces from old D-52 projects, even the upper half of a defunct Combat Walker. All in all, there's about one hundred feet of space in there to negotiate with.

Casey straps her tool belt to her waist and hops out of the APC, and makes for the elevator leading to the upper floors. "Done 'fore ya know it." She says with a grin, flipping and catching a wrench.

For now, the kids just have to hurry up and wait, as the sound of the heavy rain beating on the metal tower continues.

Carefully, Sam slides out the back of the transport, slipping around the vehicle and looking over the wide empty area. "I...um...I didn't think it'd be this...empty." Heading out a bit further, he looks straight up, towards the top of the building, trying to see what he can make out of the floors above and if maybe there's just not anything in this floor.

Other than that, he waits to hear word from one of the leader-y Wunderkind, to know what he should do to help protect Casey.

Kid's ears twitch, as she steps out of the APC. "...Anyone else got a weird feeling about all this? It's like one of my action movies, where the heroes are in a place that would make a great arena for a fight, and then the bad guys all crash through the windows."

Max thought he noticed something a little weird as Kid stepped out of the APC. The windows on this thing aren't really designed to move to any degree, so he opens up the driver's side door and hops out.

"Hey, Kid. Umm... did your ears just twich? I mean, is that a thing they usually do and I just haven't been paying attention, or what?"

Kid was right, this was just like an action movie. This could either be awesome, or really, really bad, and for all her earlier bravado, Silvie suddenly felt very nervous. She bit her lip, and said, "I don't see anything wrong yet - maybe somebody should turn on their sensors?"

Emily hated to ask, but... "Alexis? Could you use that fire chip to melt them out? Carefully?" Emily didn't really like the fire chip at the best of times, but it was the quickest way to get the cops out before they wound up dead.

Meanwhile, Emily intended to track down Ettezan (after all, who else could be responsible). With that in mind, she kicked in her boosters and rose upwards to get a better vantage point. Sure they were meant to be keeping a low profile, but she was pretty sure that was already blown if anyone was watching.

Enzo had been quiet most of the trip over, just thinking to himself. He'd kept just as quiet when the others speculated that something bad must be about to happen because the place they were parked happened to be round, more or less. That was just silly. Except now the police barricade outside was encased in ice and it had happened fast enough that instead of their warning being shouts of surprise, it was control noticing their support suddenly going silent. In addition to being really scary, that felt... wrong.

"Could there be two people with ice powers running around? Ettezan made a big show of it last time she attacked in public..."

He started looking around for anything unusual here. He wouldn't be much use at anything else until something new happened.
