Men'drakk'ar didn't stop running until he was well clear of the cleft, when his legs finally gave out and he stumbled, dropping Ethra and falling flat on his face, where he lay unmoving and unconscious.

Steal his stuff.

No evil mind, no.

Well than just rest here and recooperate.

Ethra sighed, this just wasn't her day.

Sorune was having slight problems of his own. Trying to get back to the entrance of Gaia's cleft was no easy task, and with it getting dark, most players were going to bed. Still, he would not be deterred, and played through most of the night tracking them down. When he finally couldn't go any farther, instead of laying down on the forest floor, he constructed a crude mat from branches lying around and made a hammock to hang from two trees.

Kite looked at the rope. He hoped up onto it and walked across like a high rope walker. When he got over the rope he hit the ground running. In a matter of seconds he exited Gia's Cleft. Outside he stoped took a breath and laid down on the ground his wings enfolded over him to offer some extra protection. He fell asleep so he could regain his stamina. He couldn't've run 1 more mile.

Verios chuckled silently to himself as he watched some players start fighting in the streets. He broke out into a timid laugh before going silent as he saw a Wingra walk in between the two breaking them up. She had long red hair, a metal staff in hand and wore long blue robes lined with silver, and her small black wings folded gently against the back of her robe. She broke the two up instantly, with just a few words and the smiled as they walked off in separate directions.

Verios remained still during this shaking his head as if out of a trance. "So.......They sent Saori..... Figures..... I had best avoid her then..." He grimaced slightly and slipped out of the inn quietly heading into a alley behind the inn.

(OOC: By the way, anyone still in Gaia's cleft has been disconnected due to cave in. )

After a while, Ethra finally sat up and stretched, yawning. "Stupid god-like people." Once she had gotten up she poked the guy who had carried her out of the place. "Hey, hey you. You awake?"

Alyrra stood by Kite, not really feeling like going to sleep to regenerate her energy, but resting slightly as she looked at the others, then back the way they came.

At first Men'drakk'ar was unresponsive, but abruptly he sat upright, blinking.

'I am fine. What about you, are you okay?'

All of this conversation heard other ears, as well. A certain druid was woken up by this, and when he heard Reht and Ethra speak, he immediately went to the source of their voices.
"I did get disconnected. Glad to see it wasn't in vain. And I think we have a much better chance now, seeing as how I sent an e-mail to the top cats of Reyta. Either they'll send a messenger, or actually decide to help. And we need to find Verios soon. He might hurt someone, and I mean that literally. Did everyone get out of that cave?"

Ethra shrugged, "Who's to say? I really wasn't paying attention..." Ethra turned again to Men'drakk'ar. "I think your question should be answered by my stubborness... until next we meet." Ethra ave a little wave and started to walk away.

Hurt people for real? This guy's just as nuts. After all ,this game isn't real.

Explain how all that happened then?

Hey, Verios has been here for a while, who knows what power those insanely high level people might have... once there's word from the administration, all will be clear.

So there's a chance that this incident might be more than a cool event?

... I guess.

Reht had finished counting heads. "Everyone that was coming out with me is here safely. I believe that that was everyone."
He paused for a moment, and then spoke the question nagging in the back of his mind. "What's next?"

"So what happened. I didn't know these things could colapse." Kite said.

Men'drakk'ar turned to face the others as Ethra walked away.

'Verios happened. He's got ahold of a power that he shouldn't have. A power that lets him manipulate the world as he so chooses. And he intends to abuse it.'

"....Perhaps the next step we should take is finding out how such a power came to be. I think Verios is just a pawn here. If we find out what is causing this besides Verios, then we can stop it. Perhaps we can even convince Verios to help us on that point. If any of you want out...then do so now. This is the turning point. Verios was playing still, before. Now we need to change the rules. Ethra, if you go, at least try to stay away from Verios. I don't want innocents involved." The druid looked at her, almost without emotion. "Especially not one who has almost been killed by him"

Ethra paused and turned back to the druid, still smiling. "Heh, sorry Druid, but if I see Verios, I'll probably try to chat with him, and I don't plan to do otherwise. There is no true death in this world after all, is there?" She turned again and continued walking towards town.

ArgusDevilmen

Kiton, and the Thieves guild.

Unread postby ArgusDevilmen » Fri Nov 22, 2002 4:37 pm

Verios grumbled silently as he came out from the alley. He was waiting for Saori to go by and she had, thankfully for him. Out of all the elite watchers she was a rare one to see. Usually when she came out into the open, the higher ups had something going on. She was one of the only actual watchers who could issue almost any command, if someone was to be made wanted, disconnected or even taken prisoner, all she had to do was say it and literally a whole brigade of watchers would flock to her. Usually the watchers were the elite ones who had been playing for almost as long as he had. He stopped as he watched her walk off and turn a corner.

"So what might it be.... Perhaps a hacker? Or mayb....." He paused mid sentence and stood there silently watching the people rustle about on the dimly lit streets. Talking to street vendors, forming parties, discussing quests. The merchant capital Kiton, why they consider it the merchant capital was beyond him. As the merchants seemed much less popular, compared to the Reyta Watchers HQ and the thieves guild.

"Perhaps I will go visit the Thieves guild... Yes... That should be rather entertaining. Something is always happening there..." Saying this Verios brushed off his trench coat and spun around in the opposite direction Saori had gone. Within a few minutes he arrived at a run down tavern with boarded up windows, doors and a small alley leading around back.

He chuckled and walked around back to the dead end alley. He slowly walked through the wall it fizzling for a moment before he arrived on the other side of the illusion. He knocked on the wooden door that was behind it and waved as a man with a eyepatch opened a peephole and swung the door open grinning. He was rather chubby and had the striped shirt of a pirate. He smiled revealing he was missing a few teeth, and adjusted his pants.

"Verios! Good to see ya! Bring anything with ya today? Come in! You know you are always welcome here!" The man stepped aside revealing that the inside of the run down building was actually quite well furnished. There were multiple wooden tables with 3 or four chairs per table, a small card game area in the back and a barred off section near the entrance where the Guild master kept the stolen items he was sold.

"Thanks Gabil. Sorry nothing new today, just came to avoid the streets. Some important watcher is out and about. Gonna lay low for a bit." With that he walked over to and empty table pulled out a chair and sat down. He placed his spear on the table and looked about at the 3 or 4 other thieves chatting about the various stolen goods they had. He let out a sigh and leaned back watching Gabil wave his hand at the magically locked safe house walking back into it locking once more behind him. He then looked back to his spear and leaned onto the table his arms folded.

Sorune, meanwhile, sat down on the ground, looking worried. Very worried.
~Death....I never feared it here before. And now, this? God, what now? What do I do now? These people...they're depending on me. On us. They don't or won't believe. They'll be like Ethra. And how did this power come to be? How? Even a rogue programmer couldn't....Could it be?~
"Magic...." Sorune whispered softly. "Oh God, I didn't think it possible. But it's happened, hasn't it?" He got up, looking at the others. "I think I know what's happened, and I don't think you'll believe me. In fact, you'll think I'm stark raving mad. But it has to be. Nothing else could do it. Magic. True magic. We've slipped into an alternate world. One where magic is possible. And it wants us out." His eyes lowered. "It wants us out, and it's willing to do what it takes to make sure of it...." He looked back up, not knowing what they would think about what he had just said.
~I'm crazy, to believe in that. Stark raving mad. But....do I have any other explanation? Perhaps I should get the truth out of Verios, if he knows it....~

'Well naturally it's magic. The world is full of magic.'

It was a testament to Men'drakk'ar's insistence to roleplay at all times that he was saying this, as it would only confuse the conversation.

Reht, however, had a much more down to earth personality than Men'drakk'ar did. So ICly, he reacted much more frankly.
"Magic. Sure. Sorune, there's no magical force in existence that could possibly push us into a different universe."
OOCly, however, he was considering the possibilities.

Sorune looked around for a second, obviously a little disturbed.
"Alright, I may be nuts, but there is still a few details to be hammered out. Such as how the hell it happened. Perhaps it was created entirely by the programmers. In any case, Verios has the answers. Or he'll lead to them. So, perhaps I'd better send an e-mail to a watcher 'friend' and have him help out by seeing if he knows where he is. I'll be back in a minute, I just have to log out and back in." Sorune began walking back to town, mulling thoughts over in his head.
~Crazy. Absolutely crazy. But it makes sense. Why did I say it to everyone? Because I thought they would be able to shoot it down with viable arguments. Instead, one said it was crazy. The other said it was a part of the world anyhow. I think he's either a looney, or just a full-time roleplayer. Back on track....oh shit, what about Ethra? I'd best get her too....no, she'll never believe any of it. I can still try though...but I'd best send that e-mail first. And I wonder who they sent....maybe Keet, or even Taori....or maybe Saori. Damn, I still owe her for that debt, and I gave most of my money to Reht....ah well, I still have 300. That should be enough to satisfy her until I get the rest of the money. Especially what with what's going on~ Sorune walked through the town carefully, knowing full well bandits inhabited it late at night.

Saori slowly walked down the streets into the Watcher HQ. She looked about nodding to the various people who waved to her upon arrival. She let out a quiet sigh and began to head into the back room. She stepped in sitting down in a chair and picking up a note from the table and sitting down to read it.

"So it really is Verios......." She let out a sigh and laid her hands on the table leaning on them. "Where would he have gone........ " She slowly began to think up logical places for him to go.

Sorune had finished disconnecting and reconnecting in less than five minutes. He wasn't pleased. Having your hopes dashed because the person who can help you was at a party can do that. So, he set off on plan B. Go to the watcher's guild, and inquire who was on the Verios case, offering what help he could.

"Well, people, I'm going to start assembling a base camp. Whatever it was that started, will most likely end here as well. Call it a hunch. Besides, we have to meet Sorune back here."

Verios sighed quietly sensing that Saori was still in town. He knew he shouldn't try anything stupid while she was here, so he laid his head back down on the table slowly nodding off....

Saori meanwhile was looking through notes in the backroom of the Watcher's guild. She flipped through them quickly scanning them over, then placing them back on the table in the middle of the room.

"Perhaps one of the people who saw him will come here..."
