Sam frowns, shaking his head. "Nuh uh. Ellastic wouldn't rob a bank, that's gotta be someone else! Maybe it's fake or somethin'! Someone made it up so Ellastic'd get in trouble, someone that doesn't like Ellastic! Superheroes don't do stuff like that!"

Enzo doesn't react at first. After a moment he looks at Rivendare.

"Have you had time to check and see if the video has been tampered with?"

"It's not." Rivendare says. "This was taken from OUR server, they were using a D-52 security system."

Enzo paused for a moment, looking confused.

"Even so, I could make a fake video on one of D-52's systems if I wanted to. Or anyone like me. I wouldn't even need access through normal security channels to the storage medium so long as I was close by to it. I could bypass physical security and erase the data logs of having done it with some effort, too, so long as I wasn't seen by a person on my way to the server. May I have a look at the file?"

He knew that his statement that he could look anyway, with or without permission, and that was true. He could look at the video data whether Rivendare wanted him to or not. He wouldn't do it if Rivendare told him not to, though.

((ooc: Please pardon the super-talky post. Wasn't in an expository mood tonight, I guess.))

"Open and shut my ass." Max retorted, arguably belatedly. "Evidence is only part of a case. What about motive? What possible reason could a superhero have to rob a bank? Heroing don't pay the bills, but doesn't she have loads of sponsors and licensing deals and stuff? She can't be hurting for money. Isn't it far more likely that some evil douche would want to try to frame her than it is that a world-renowned superhero would suddenly turn rogue and risk her fame and freedom for money she doesn't even need?"

"And even if she did go rogue, does anyone seriously believe she'd be so amateur about it? How is it that the one camera you fail to scramble is the one right at the freakin' entrance? And why didn't she even try to hide her identity?"

Max folds his arms. "There's way too many unanswered questions for this to be 'open and shut'."

"Also, I'd say Ellastic is the only person in the world we know of with her powers. I think it was only recently that Wunderkind were discovered, right? Isn't it possible there's someone else with similar powers that we didn't know about because they were doing illegal things and didn't want us to know about them? And we only know now because they finally slipped up? Or maybe it's not even a slip-up. Just throwing it out there, but if I were an evil stretchy dude and I wanted to take Ellastic down while making mad cash moneys, framing her for bank robbery seems like a no-brainer."

"It looks like a set-up alright," Emily said, "The problem is we have to prove it. I mean, other hypothetical people who can do that stuff aren't going to cut any ice with the courts, so if Ellastic's the only suspect, she has to stay put until the trial at least. So we have to figure out who did do it and bring them in with plenty of evidence." Emily was, frankly, raring to go. They couldn't just let people push around their fellow superheroes like this. Besides, who knew what Ellastic's nefarious enemies might get up to while she was out of commission?

"Is she okay? Did you put her in jail?" Wringing his hands, Sam stammers a bit; if Ellastic was in jail, all the bad guys she caught could beat her up and stuff, like when it happened to the Bowman in the comics!

Nodding, Sam darts out of the room for the third floor, heading for Ellastic's cell without a single word.

Of course, he doesn't know where exactly that cell is yet, but he doesn't quite realize that just yet.

Mission: 10- Stretching the Truth
Location: Deck City- The Deck, Holding Cells, third floor.
December 27th, 3756
1:00 PM.

The Wunderkind rush down to the holding cells, presumably to talk to Ellastic about what she's being held for.

As they run, though, they hear...A girl shouting. "We want the truth! The press has a right to know! The truth will come out!"

As they approach, they can see a girl parading back and forth in front of two very nervous looking guards manning a security door. The guards look between each other, very clearly wanting to do SOMETHING about the protesting girl, but... Apparently she's still in one of the public areas of the building.

The girl just continues to march. She's wearing a light jacket over a white shirt and grey sweatpants...Probably not caring too much about appearances. She's got shoulder length hair, just a touch longer than...Ellastics. It's brown, the same shade as...Ellastics. She's just a few inches taller than Ellastic, and as a voice pretty similar to Ellastic. She continues to shout at the guards, demanding to be let through.

One thing is for sure, though-

This girl is absolutely, 100% NOT Ellastic. That would be ridiculous.

Well, this was ever so slightly suspicious. Freedom of the press or not, this girl had shown up pretty close on the heels of Ellastic's arrest. Emily didn't think anyone would've gone around publicising what was bound to end up as a seriously embarrassing incident in the end. One way to find out what this intrepid (and pretty young, come to think of it) reporter knew.

Emily headed over to the security glass herself, though she refrained from opening the doors, "I completely agree," she said, "No sense trying to bury the truth. It'll come out in the end."

"The area beyond the door is, er, restricted." One of the guards says. "No one gets through until we've finished primary interrogation."

"Yeah, right." The girl says, turning to the Wunderkind. "Can you believe this crap? They don't want us to know they tried to hold ELLASTIC in a normal cell and she slipped right out in order to prove her innocence!"

Sam looks at the plucky girl reporter that definitely isn't Ellastic, glancing between her and the room the guards are guarding. "She is? Are you sure? Well...um..." Is that a good thing? She definitely didn't do it, she was supposed to stay there until she got let out! And leaving makes things look more suspicious maybe, and they might have to send people out to track her down and that could be bad! But if anyone can prove she didn't do it, it's Ellastic! If she even really did escape, of course.

He looks back to the guards, a but nervously. "Um...Mr. Rivendare said we're s'posed to go in and talk to her. So...um...if Ellastic is still inside, you needa let us in. Is she?"

"Yeah, well." the guard begins, "Volgar AND Shintaro say NOBODY goes in."

"You lost her, just admit it!" Plucky Girl reporter says. One can only assume she's got a fedora with a 'press' band somewhere at home.

What? Horse-... plop. Rivendare said they could. Forget what the other Aces had to say about it! He wasn't going to do this without the permission of the others, though...

Hey guys, want me to remotely open the door and we can just walk on through? I think we can force past these two without actually hurting them.

Alexis had been silent for most of the time, weakly returning the hugs her siblings had offered her, but had spent the rest of the day in the background, listening to Rivendare and holding onto her left arm with her right hand, looking rather dejected. When they went to Ellastic's sell, she gave the reporter an odd look before glancing over at Emily.

Should we really, you guys? ...Haven't we... um... never... never mind...

That's a good idea, Emmy.

While Emily works that angle, Max stands sternly in front of the reporter girl. What's her deal, anyway? Local news never finds out about stuff THIS fast, and even if they did, how would they have sent someone out here so quickly? Besides, she's a little underdressed, not to mention a little underage, for professional reporting.

Whatever. Max will play along for now.

With arms crossed, Max addresses the intruder. "How did you find out about this, anyway? This literally just happened. If you're with the press, where are your credentials? What agency are you with? Aren't you a little young to be a professional newshound?" On the word 'young,' Max pokes the girl in the upper chest, partly to keep up the facade of aggression but mostly to check if she shares Ellastic's elasticity as well as several of her more mundane traits.

She glares at Max's attempted poke, batting his arm away before it connects. "Watch the hands, buddy."

I'm with Emily she told the others quickly. We can bust in after that, okay? But first, lets find out what she knows....nicely, okay? Or I can be the nice one and Max can keep on being a jerk. It'll be like an episode of M, M, & O!

"Whoa, you guys have a fanclub for her?" Silvie grinned widely as she walked up to Elly and Max , and asked, "So you're pretty on top of Ellastic stuff, huh?"

Of course it would be familiar! As the president of an Ellastic fan club, it would be natural that Elly would mimic her classic poses. In fact, Silvie was a little impressed by her dedication.

"So, is that how you found out about the escape? I mean, anyone who knows anything about Ellastic would know that no mere prison can hold her."

...and now Silvie was speaking like a comic book narrator. How fitting.

I'll get on the local news. One moment.

He tried to not let his eyes unfocus as he checked the local news feeds for The Deck, the capital of The Empire, and anything else that might have a reason to be big on Ellastic. While he was at it, he went ahead and checked CheapCheep for tweets by Ellastic. While that wouldn't be out of place today, famous people making big declarations via a social networking service and such, it seemed a little... fast. Not that he could think of a possible alternate way for Elly to have learned about things and show up here. ... In D-52. In an area secured from the public. While they're all-

Guys, this civilian is looking at us in our combat bodies and not even blinking in the middle of D-52. Does... Does that bug anyone else?

"Umm...Excelsior. Whatever that means." Elly says. "...Hey, are you guys here for the con, or what? Nice costumes."

Enzo finds...There's nothing on the normal news, or Com-News. The only thing is, indeed, Ellastic's CheapCheep has been...Cheeped.

Enzo relaxed a bit. Assuming they were cosplaying was better than some of the things she could have suggested.

The Media hasn't picked up on this yet. it's still just Ellastic's CheapCheep. She's fast, apparently. Or the mainstream media isn't following Ellastic very closely today.

"Well, yeah," Emily said, "But if the fake strikes again, how will anyone prove it wasn't Ellastic? Since nobody'd be able to prove where she was at the time." Of course, the fake likely wouldn't strike at all as long as they thought Ellastic was in custody. After all, the point was to incriminate her.
