Re: The Fourth Match

The possible solution came like a bolt out of the blue. "Wait-a-minute, wait a minute.... >This game, in itself, has over 10,000 rules that can be broken. I am only going to tell you one of them. That, being that you can only break a total of three rules before you lose. And that's all there is to it.< ........ The rule about losing IS ALSO ITSELF A RULE!!!"

In the first flicker of movement he did besides blinking, Theodarus moved his eyes towards his opponent. "How am I going to do this" he thought, and his face unconsiously twisted into his 'devious idea look' expression.

"So, 'Just as you thought' eh? I'll give you something to think about....."

(OOC: woah, posting at the same time..... added a paragraph to add to the changes)

Lyle's eyes seemed to light up a bit, seeing Theodarus redirect his face, at last.

The dreadlocked man continued spinning the blue whistle, weaving it in between his fingers like some kind of hypnotizing gimmick.

Lyle then stepped forward, while continuing to spin the blue whistle.

The bat man said nothing.

And thus, Lyle did it again.

Theodarus, on the other hand, decided to loosen some almost-cramping flesh. Slowly, he adjusted his stance, flexing each limb one at a time, and quite openly at that. It was also quite obvious when he opened his mouth and said: "Goooootcha~~~~".

The grin replaced the open mouth, and Theodarus started walking towards his opponent....

Look Deeper...

Postby Molokidan » Tue Oct 19, 2004 2:26 am

"Theodarus has broken Rule #1,203: Do not take more than three steps in a row!"

The bat man's voice caused Theodarus to freeze in his steps. He hadn't broken a rule by stretching, nor had he broken a rule by talking, yet. . .the walking? It didn't make sense.

As thoughts began running through his head, he watched as Lyle took his third step, and the bat man said nothing. All the while, twirling the stupid plastic blue whistle.

Was what his secret? He had taken the three steps, with only momentary breaks in between. . .but he had done nothing in between that.

. . .had he?

"Thank you for proving that talking is not a rule." Lyle spoke, in a deep, groany voice. "Also, for making a mistake."

"No problem. Makes things easier this way." Theodarus replied. He looked towards the bat-judge for a bit, then turned back to his opponent, still radiating the same confidence.

Inside his thoughts is a slightly different matter. "Why the hell is he able to get away with walking three steps when I can't... He knows something useful I don't, that's for sure... No matter, I also got something he does not have..."

After all, he has a safety net to fall back on, even if he does not exactly know how to break a rule about losing the match. He continued to observe his opponent...

Keeping Looking Deeper...

Postby Molokidan » Tue Oct 19, 2004 2:42 am

"If you say so." Lyle muttered. "Look, I'm not trying to say that I'm better than you or anything. . .I honestly don't care. However. . .this is really boring, just standing here and doing nothing. What do you say we get this over with?" he asked, moving his mouth. As he took his last step, Theodarus noticed that he had moved his hand back to his pocket, where he had then ceased to twirl the whistle. He was now back to the exact same figure he was when he started, except three steps forward. He looked at Theodarus with his glazed brown eyes. "I mean, we both know your team is gonna win."

IM:"There's something about that whistle just now... and what loophole had this guy spotted that I didn't..." He shifted his glaze between the bat-judge and Lyle...

"Oh, wow."
Zachary then cuts his voice down to a whisper and shields his mouth so it's not visible to lip-readers.
"Heh, that guy just handed Theo the ammunition he needs, if I understand Banjo's abilities well enough. All Theo has to do is ask 'Is my team going to win?' and if the other guy says "yes," then it's over. He can FORCE the other guy to break all the rules he likes. Or throw himself over the side of the platform. If I'm right, you won't have to do a darn thing, Fwupo."

OOC:
Thanks. I thought of that, but it was when I was away from the computer

And to answer the other question: No, The effect would not be reversed

IC:
"Well," Theodaurus lied, "I am not exactly in high standing in my own party. In fact, The drow gave me this." He gave his mouth a slight twitch, indicating the purple bruise there.

"Ah well, forget it" Theodarus continued, effecting a suspicious air, as if he said something he shouldn't have. "I guess if you believe we should win, you should just declare your loss to the judge. Otherwise we would be standing all day."

He had activated "Words of Power" on the preceeding statement just in case, but he expected the quarry to reject the statement. After all, Lyle had said earlier: ""Thank you for proving that talking is not a rule. Also, for making a mistake."

"Nope......" Theodarus thought "definately not the words of a person about to give up...."

"Alright." Lyle said calmly. "I just hope you'll hold up to your end of the bargain. Besides, this will make things interesting."

He took the blue whistle out of his pocket and held it straight in front of his face. "I was taking a big chance when I tried this, but it worked out, as I thought. There is a rule against `Walking Three Feet`. But of course, there is no rule such as `Walking Three Feet While Twirling a Blue Whistle and Pointing Your Pinky and Ring Finger Outwards.` It's all about words." he said, putting extra emphasis on that. "Now. . .I've told you all my secrets that no one else knows. I want yours. What's your power, Mr. Theodarus?" a grin began to spread on his face.

The True Will

Postby Molokidan » Wed Oct 20, 2004 12:26 am

Lyle spoke for the next fifteen minutes. Most of it was arbitrary information about how he hated his family, and of strange happenings that were really of no connection to the present situation. The abridged speech is as follows:

"I was born the third son of the Keidvin family. I have two older brothers and one younger sister. I had a quiet childhood, but my father had already forced my two older brothers to join the family business, a hole-in-the-wall construction guild, so I ran away from at the age of 15 and became a bounty hunter. In the guild, I began developing my psychic abilities, which I have had since birth. I am able to send energy waves through the whistle in my pocket, and use the said waves to cause a paralysis-like effect through the targeted area of the opponent's body. In any case, I am get my jobs done, and always work alone. I have many love interests but no present lover. I have heard of you, Theodarus Banjo, although where from, I do not remember. But I know of you, and the legend that you can get people to do whatever you want them to. I have never seen your face before, but giving your physical stature, as well as your first name, I decided it was a decent shot."

He finished talking as the fifteen minutes went up, and as Theodarus' power was successfully completed. That was when the bat man chimed in:

"Theodarus has now broken rule #10: You may not use any unusual abilities, whether they be physical or mental, on the opponent at any time."

Lyle grinned, his eyes piercing Theodarus. "I figured it'd be something like that. Which is why I wasn't worried about giving such dire information up. This'll be over soon."

"The bastard.." Theodarus though, "He knew of me, or rather my family's hereditary skills, and baited me to use them.... This guy is good."

He still kept his grin: no matter what happens, he has to continue to show confidence in the face of his opponent. As a trained negotiator, to lose control of his appearance in sight of his opponent is equivalent to losing the deal.

At least he got some information from his opponent, and there's still that "rule of losing is itself a rule" (shaky) safety net....

And one more thing.... "I wonder if a rule can be broken twice..."

(OOC: Molo: I got an idea of a "family" skill, but its unlisted. how do I go about it? E-mail me please)

Lyle grinned, twirling the blue whistle between his fingers. "One more mistake, and you're toast. . ." he mumbled. "I wonder what's the best way to finish you off?"

The stage retained its eerily silent atmosphere, with Theodarus locked deep in thought and Lyle sneering at him. The bat man floated above them, staring.

Re: The True Will

"Alright" Theodarus thought to himself after a moment of silence. "I guess I'll risk the fact that you cannot break a rule twice..."

He gathered in his knowledge of Lyle, and studied it for a bit. "Two brothers and a sister... quiet childhood, ignored? Ran away because he does not want to be forced.... have love interests but never commited.... maybe afraid of committing..... loner..... hmm.... paralysis skills..... mindset of a sadist, if he used it often.... does he? Most probably, as he was good with the whistle just now..... Good logical mind.... this is going to be a tough one..."

Not for the last time, Theodarus wondered how his brother does it. He has jumped to his brother's commands often enough, but he had failed in using this skill most of the time, even with people he knows best. Maybe it is his inability to truely understand other people's mind or something, but darn if he's going to trip himself the third time and lose the match without trying. And this normally unused skill is the only thing he could think of that he could use...

After some amount of controlled breathing, and a little bit of "tuning" (saying "Ahhh" at different pitchs), Theodarus looked to his opponent. And suddenly, in a sharp voice that seems to be mixed with all kinds of emotions overlayed by a commanding, no-nonsense tone, he barked out, "Walk Three Steps!!"

(Theodarus Activates Words of Command on Lyle)

(OOC: Molo, forgot to add: This ability affects only one person at a time)

Theodarus: Endgame

Postby Molokidan » Wed Oct 20, 2004 8:40 am

At first, nothing happened. Theodarus stood pointing at Lyle, his finger wavering in the air, sweat pouring down his face.

Then. . .Lyle's legs began to move. He stepped forward three steps and stopped, then looked up to Theodarus. "What. . .the hell?"

"Lyle has broken #Rule #1,203: Do not take more than three steps in a row." the bat man said.

He collapsed to his knees, staring up at Theodarus. "You. . .what you did just now. . .how in the world. . .?" His face was a mess, he was staring at Theodarus, his jaw practically on the floor. The way he looked, entirely, was completely opposite from his cool, apathetic attitude before.

"However. . ." the bat man opened his mouth once again, much to Theodarus' distress. "Theodarus has also broken the exact same rule again. . .this time, marking his third rule broken. I am afraid he loses, and Lyle wins the match."

Lyle didn't even seem to register the bat man's words. He was staring at Theodarus, scared for his life. "You. . .you're a monster. . ." he got up, started stepping backwards, and turned around to face Roto, who was planning to slap him five.

"Nice job, man! We just need one more to get out of here." Roto smiled.

"Sh. . .shut up. You idiot!" Lyle shouted, moving back to his panel, shivering.

"And now. . .with the score tied." the bat man's voice boomed across the room. "Will the final two combatants, Fwupo and Grimm, please make their way to the stage for Match 5."

From the back of Roto, Jessika, Kryst, and Lyle, came a grey-haired man, nearly bald, wearing a brown jerkin. He looked to be around his 50's or early 60's, and had a large mustache which spread out to where few mustaches ever achieve in their lifetimes.

As he walked up, the bat man began to talk. "Seeing as how this is the final match, as well as the deciding match, I have decided to make this one a little. . .special. You will be fighting, but you will not be fighting each other. . .you will be fighting me." the bat man lowered himself down to the ground. "The rules for this final match are. . .whoever lays the first hit on me, will be declared the winner."

"Waitaminute!"

Zachary draws out his spectacles, puts them on, and then begins to recite his knowledge of the game.

"Is there a rule against using any special powers of any kind while describing that you're using them and standing exactly as Theodorus Banjo had been standing at that EXACT time? If not, then the rules of your game are inconsistant and the contest is null-value, as by merely adding on a few actions to a previous action Lyle had proven that, by walking three steps while twirling a blue whistle, unless the rule applies to EXACTLY what you're doing then the rule doesn't apply at all. Theodorus was never JUST using his powers. He was using his powers while breathing, using specific words while using his powers, processing incoming information while using his powers- None of those are outlawed in the SPECIFIC RULE that you just mentioned, Mr. Referee. Unless you cite the specific rules against all of these infractions, I will have to say that you're not being impartial in this contest, and that the people who are running this tournament might be VERY interested if you proved to have a stake in one of the parties that you judged over."

The Fifth Match

Postby Molokidan » Wed Oct 20, 2004 5:44 pm

The bat man smiled at Zachary. "Didn't you listen earlier. I am a minor psychic. I judge the rules on the characters' current intentions. While Theodarus was using his powers, that was clearly what he was thinking about the most. While Lyle was walking forward, his stronger emotion was twirling the blue whistle. Since there are so many loopholes, I use those psychic impulses that I can feel to be the strongest indicator of whether or not a rule is broken."

He sighed annoyedly, and then shook his head and took back up. "Anyway. . .if there will be no more interruptions. . .on the subject of psychic abilities, gentlemen, do remember that have such. Which means, I can feel your impulses as soon as you think of them. It makes blocking attacks much easier. Just something to keep in mind."

Heh, heh, heh... can you hear me bat boy-kupo? I'm your worst nightmare-kupo...

Fwupo's first action was to assume his fighting stance for this match. It involved unslinging his banjo and cradling it in his hands, while remaining in the same pose he had had before. He then raised up his left paw in a pose reminiscent of a rock star, and slammed it down across his strings, resulting in a viscious *TWANG!*

As the first chord reverberated, Fwupo's feet began to move in the steps of a carefree dance, driven more by instinct and the beats of the music than by any conscious thought on his part. The moogle's steps carried him across the floor in a bizzare zigzag pattern, bobbing and weaving almost randomly, and skirting dangerously close to the holes in the floor. Although the music didn't sound great to those who could hear it, it was obvious that Fwupo had completely lost himself in it.

His opponent was only a distant reality, and the fighter from the other team was completely forgotten. The arena and the area surrounding it was replaced with a simple town square, and the members of the other team with the smiling faces of humans and moogles, all clapping in time to the ideal music that flowed through Fwupo's head. And he danced.

He danced across the arena, around the bat-man a handful of times, this way and that way, letting mustach do whatever he wanted, and then spiralled in to the climax of his dance...

And as he spun to a stop on his knees, heaving his banjo down at his thighs, he ripped a last chord off of the poor, out-of-tune instrument, in the same motion theoretically backhanding his opponent...

Complications

Postby Molokidan » Wed Oct 20, 2004 6:07 pm

Whether Fwupo would have hit the opponent or not was not of the question, however. Because at the moment he stopped in front of the bat man, Grimm was there, and gave him a roundhouse kick to his head, sending him skidding across the platform.

"Hmph." Grimm said, nodding his head slightly. "With you out of the way, I will be able to take this creature on without interruption."

He then turned suddenly and tried to kick the bat man, who promptly guarded it with his hand. "Gotta be faster." he grinned, and then grabbed the Grimm's leg with both hands, flipping him over onto his stomach.

"What the hell--!?" Grimm shouted. "You!"

"I never said I wouldn't counterattack, would I?" he smiled, letting go of Grimm's leg. "Where's the fun in that?"

Fwupo picked himself up off of the ground with a grunt, dusting himself off. Then he noticed that his banjo had lost another string. There was a moment of wordless shock, then...

"WHY YOU UNGRATEFUL, TASTELESS SON OF A BITCH-KUPO! I'LL HAVE YOU'RE HEAD ON A PLATTER-KUPO!"

With that, the tempo of the music in his mind went from simple to rabbidly driven aggression. He rocketted across the arena with only one, simple intention: To stomp the mustached idiot flat. He flung himself into the air, springing off of any handy stalagmites and bouncing off of stalagtights, and shooting down for the mustached man. It may or may not have been a part of some scheme of the moogle's to place the bat inbetween himself and one of the stalagmights he targetted, but either way, if he didn't get out of the way, he'd become just another push off place for Fwupo's mad charge at his antagonist...

"Hmph." Grimm stood up, dusting himself off. "Fine, then. Why don't you have a taste of my--"

His sentence was cut sort, however, because at that very moment, like a monstrously huge hailstone from the sky, Fwupo came crashing down on Grimm, sending the two tumbling away from the bat man.

"Ghhhh!" Grimm straightened himself up once again, forming his hands into two claws. "Fine, then. You will be the first to fall victim to by Tiger Claw technique!"

And with that, he came dashing towards Fwupo, his arms outstretched and flailing.

"WHY DON'T YOU JUST KISS MY ASS-KUPO?"

By this point, Fwupo's white hot rage at the injury to his banjo had cooled, if only a tad, and some seblence of rational thought had returned.

The rational thought in question ran something like, "Gonna kill this guy until he's damn near dead!"

Keep in mind that his thoughts only resembled rational.

Of course, the fighting part of the brain worked fine, rational thoughts or no, and Fwupo instinctively responded to the openings in the man's attack by diving between his legs as he flailed, scissoring his legs out to trip the uncultured bastard as he slid through...

Fwupo sailed through the man's stampeding legs, just barely missing getting fwomped. The man had little time to wonder where Fwupo went, as he was soon flat on his face, on the ground for the third time.

"You. . ." he growled, getting up, and turned around to put Fwupo in the ass.

The bat man watched enthusiastically.

Meanwhile, back at the stands, Theodarus mumbled to himself "At least I tried... and gave him something to think about. That person he heard of must be my cousin, skilled in the use of his voice..."

Suddenly, he brought both his palms together, with his head in between "Alright, perk up. If you lost a deal, you lost a deal, and there's others to make." And to Zachary:"Thanks Zachary, for trying to help.... woah.... your injuries..."

He was stunned earlier while walking past his teammate, but for the first time, he saw the extent of damage the guy had. "Nobody knows healing in this group?" Theodarus asked out of reflex. If anyone knows healing, he would have used it by now.

"Alright, Hang on, this is going to be slow, and slightly painful, but its better than nothing...." With that, he took out one of his pens, and started charging...... and missed most of the details of Fwupo's match....

(Theodarus intends to write the word HEAL onto Zachary's broken hand...... If he could charge the brush for upwards of 15 minutes that is.....)

Some Light Healing

Postby Molokidan » Wed Oct 20, 2004 10:08 pm

Theodarus began charing his brush, and felt the burn. Testing his newskill previously had really sapped a lot of his strength, and if he successfully pulled it off, would cripple him until the team found an acceptable place to rest.

Still, the pen was charging. . .

Theodarus could feel the burn all right, felt it all the way to his toes. "Darn.... persuasion right from the start, followed by multiple words, some more persuasion and a darn command.... no wonder I'm out....."

At barely a minute of charging, he decided enough was enough, and wrote the word HEAL onto Zachary's shoulder, before collapsing onto his knees. Even a charge of the intended fifteen minutes wouldn't be a full heal, but hopefully after the word worked its magic, Zachary could at least use his injured hand....

It'll be a looooong 15 minutes (spell effect time) of pain for Zachary thou, as bones moved on their own accord to where they were supposed to be.

Feel the Burn!

Postby Molokidan » Wed Oct 20, 2004 10:26 pm

Zachary's hand began to spasm, and soon the bones were moving about their own, grinding, twisting, back into the place, and undoing the damage from Zachary's crash through the platform. He held his arm in pain, but soon, after fifteen minutes of spasming, his hand was back in its correct shape, albeit incredibly sore and red.

However, he was not the only one exhausted and out of breath. Theodarus, with his spell finished, was panting very hard, on his knees. He had definitely "pushed things to the limit", whatever that meant.

"If I were to write music for this-kupo, it'd have to be a duet-kupo. Yes, a duet with a banjo-kupo (that's me-kupo) and a bass-kupo (that's him-kupo.)"

Brain semi-functioning again, now that he had inflicted a little of the desired pain on his opponent, Fwupo was begining to try and analyze the situation. At the same time, he was flipping forward into a handstand and kicking his heels out towards Mustachios.

Of course it might be a trio-kupo, with a flute for our friend-kupo...
