Nan'tulla grinned. "Sure." Her many spindly legs kept her beside Blaze as they walked out. "Company'd be nice, and I brought my own lunch." She wrinkled her nose slightly. "For some reason most of the school food gives my spider half indigestion. And that means I start spitting webbing. Not nice."

"Sounds good," said Katyana. "Sekor, I have our lunches in my pack."
"Going to the park?" said Krysta. "Too bad... I have to stay here. School spirit stuff, with all the cheerleaders walking around." She sighed, but didn't seem like she'd be too lonely, since Stacy then bounced up.
"Hey, hey! Hey again, Sam! And who're you two?"
"Katyana," replied the catgirl, giving her a hug. Stacy returned it enthusiastically. Sekor glanced down and muttered his name, clearly uneasy with all the sudden company. Noticing it, Katyana tweaked his tail and turned to Sam.
"We go to the park now?"
"Bye then!" said Stacy, dragging along Krysta to the lunchline. After going through it and both getting pizza, they went to a table with Terri, the cheerleader of the brightly dyed hair, sitting near Bob.

"All right. Amie?"
"Yes?" the girl replied to the drama teacher, Mrs. Alkyre. Mrs. Alkyre was a formidable woman with russet hair. Tall and sturdy, she looked like she could play rugby as her own team... and win. Her hair was tied into a tight, practical braid, and her clothing was loose and comfortable.
"The schedule for this play... we're going to try and get it done around late November or early December, right? So we've got a little over three months. Now, I already know most of our crew, so I think I know which parts are going to be done for who. As for the play..." she cleared her throat, gathering the attention of a little over twenty other students in the room, eating lunch while chatting and skimming over the thick script.
"Most of you have already read a little of the play by now. Basically, it's a boy-meets-girl thing. The title is unoriginal— "New Boy," I mean honestly..." she sighed. "But the play itself is pretty good. The story goes with a new boy arriving at the school and having two girls get interested in him. One is a stereotypical "bad girl" named Rozzy, and the other is class valedictorian and all-around goody-two-shoes named Lisa. Now, guess who gets the boy? Lisa, that's right...
"At any rate, this is going to have a lot of singing involved, especially Lisa's part. Unfortunately— well, the actress best suited to Lisa doesn't have a voice which is up to it." Mrs. Alkyre smiled apologetically at a girl with short, elegantly bobbed hair. "Now, what I'm thinking is pulling one of the girls from the choir class over and doing a voice-over for Nicole here. In other words, Nicole lip-synchs and the girl who does the singing is backstage and singing into a microphone.
"Main characters... there are a couple. Alan, you're the new boy's best friend on the football team, who is also named Alan... although that's not why I chose you to play him. Kelly, you're being Sandra, Lisa's older sister..." The teacher ticked through the cast. "...Nicole, you know you're already being Lisa, and—"
Skimming through her script again, Amie's heart began pounding.
I can't believe this...
"Patrick, you're the new boy, Derek, and Amie—" Mrs. Alkyre peered at the thin girl. "You're Rozzy." The rest of the class blinked in surprise.
"But Mrs. Alkyre!" she protested. "I mean, LOOK at me! I don't think—"
"You're good at acting. You'll manage. Besides, girl..." The teacher smiled slightly. "Think I'd have chosen you if you couldn't do it?"
Amie sat back in bewildered silence. Mrs. Alkyre began speaking again, stressing to everybody to begin practicing and come in after school.
"And remember, talk with some of your friends and see if any girls who can sing are willing to help. We're a mostly male class, and even if we don't get somebody to do the solos for Lisa's part, we're going to need a few extras to stand around and sing in chorus, to balance out our tenors and baritones. Got that?"
