Alexis blinked as the phone rang and grinned widely as Emily picked it up. Wow, people were even calling them up to challenge them for duels, or tell them that they were training hard... or reminding them to pick up groceries.

Even so, they were being called! While Emily spoke into the phone, the Creepy Skulk pulled out another monsphere and summoned her Froslass, smiling as the humanoid mon looked around, probably expecting a fight.

"Don't worry, just thought you might enjoy some cold mountain air for a change... It's been a while since we challenged the Superior Four, hasn't it?"

The Snolass covered the lower part her face while she laughed a little, looking at the others in the group and giving off... well... exactly the same vibe as Spooky did.

Emily answers the phone!...It's Enzo. And he's just said something strange.

(Emmy and Enzo are communicating via monsgear! Emily gets Enzo's last line, and both can speak to one another currently.)

Ambassador Leafshade sighed. "I guess I should check on her," she said, her voice mixing worry and annoyance. She popped a monsphere loose with her claws. "I think this was the one? Lauren, I choose you!"

A beam of light shot from the monsphere, and out came....Lauren! She looked perfectly normal. Unusually normal, in fact, since she was now back in her wunderkind uniform instead of her battlemon trainer outfit. "Woah!" she said, stumbling a little. "That was really weird! What's going on here?"

"Lauren!" Ambassador Leafshade called out and bounded over to her, pushing the monsphere in front of her. "Are you okay?"

Lauren looked herself over. "Yeah, it was just a little--"

"Great! Lauren, return!" Ambassador Leafshade turned to the others as Lauren once more vanished into the tiny monsphere. "She's doing fine," she said smugly. "Now come on, we have a mission to complete!"

"Something wasn't quite right there..." Janet says, thinking. "..she's registering as a Mon herself. And she wasn't a trainer anymore."

Sam nods at Janet's comments, frowning a bit; he saw it too, but that doesn't even make sense, since Lauren isn't a battlemon in the game and they probably can't just make them up like that...can they?

"Um...Leafshade, d'you know what happened?" Leafshade's brief check doesn't seem to have done much to eased Sam's concerns; it's only heightened them, in fact. "'Cause Lauren's really not supposed t'be a battlemon, I don't even think that's supposed t'be possible. Like how you changed into one when we came in. Does everything feel okay to you 'bout the game and all? Nothin' feels...weird, does it?"

(Sorry for the delay folks)

Ah, there we go. Emmy, at least.

Kid has gone missing. Uhm. I hit her with Surf by accident a minute ago. I'm... not really sure what to do. I'm trying to get in touch with everyone, and see if she chimes in.

He nodded to Max.

"I've tried that, kinda. If she doesn't answer, then I'll have to deep dive and try again. I hope she isn't too mad..."

Ratata ran a paw over it's face at Enzo's antics. This was no way to run a railroad.

Ambassador Leafshade shook her head as she walked back towards the others. "No, I feel fine, I..." She stopped suddenly. "woah. I've got a menu screen now!" She stopped for a moment to flip through her various options. She could look at a list of her battlemons and, yep, there was a little icon of Lauren's face, glaring. Ambassador Leafshade smirked. "Ha! That'll show her. Now I'm...oh...no..." Her ears drooped in sorrow as she buried her face in her paws. "Now I'll never get to fight anything!"

"Yeah!" Sam nods in agreement with Janet. "An' you're still fighting the bad guys too, just like we are. It's just you're doing it in a different way! But you're still tellin' your battlemons...and Lauren I guess...what to do an' stuff. Janet's still part of the team and still sorta fightin' stuff when we're on missions even though that's the only kinda stuff she does, right?"

Max nods blankly; understanding, but not entirely sure where Enzo deep diving leaves him. Max is all for the idea, in concept, but being alone in the desert watching a soulless body sounds incredibly boring.

He tosses one of his monspheres into the air. "Swellow, you're up!" The monsphere oens and a plume of bright red energy spills out, quickly assuming the shape of a bird, which just as quickly becomes Max's Swellow. Max holds his arm out, and Swellow circles around overhead and comes in for a landing. He's seen this sort of thing a time or two before, but never having actually done it himself, Max wasn't prepared for the pinching of Swellow's talons on his arm. Even with that jacket on, it wasn't exactly comfortable. He winces a little, but his discomfort is quickly overtaken by the sheer coolness of calling your attack-bird and having it land on your arm. Max pulls his arm in closer and gives his flying friend a little head-pet, and a little scratch under the beak. Swellow is eating it up.

"Hey, buddy, we're in kind of a jam. We used Surf when Kid didn't have-" Swellow looks a little confused at the name Kid. "You know, that Elfin Trainer in the green when I brought you guys out before?" Swellow nods. "Anyway, she didn't have a battlemon to protect her, and got carried off. Could you fly up and see if you can find out where Surf took her, or all those bidoof?" Swellow blinks, a little surprised, as if it just heard something that couldn't be right. "Yeah, we were... we were just battling 37 bidoof. At the same time. It was..."

Max isn't even sure what words appropriately describe that situation. Swellow tilts its head, partly from pondering the disturbing nature of such a large congregation of bidoof, and partly because it's not sure if it should be waiting for it's trainer to come up with proper adjectives. Hearing none, it rests a surprisingly understanding wing on Max's shoulder, as if to say 'Yeah, I know what you mean, man.' Max sighs. "Yeah."

"Anyway, if you could scout around, that'd be awesome."

Swellow nods in understanding. Max extends his arm, and his Swellow spreads it's wings, announces "Swellow!", and takes off into the sky with incredible speed. Max and Saguaro shields their eyes from the sun and watch, impressed. Hovertank is watching, too, but he's always so hard to read.

"Man, why didn't I ever give that guy a name?"

Ambassador Leafshade sniffled and looked up at the others. "I know, and normally it's okay, but...I wanted a turn...and then she tried to get rid of me!" Ambassador Leafshade lashed her tail about angrily. "I'm still mad. I'll let her out later. Maybe she'll be ready to be a team again then."

Enzo, still sitting atop Tentacruel, watches Swellow fly off.

"Huh. I hadn't thought of that. I guess because I don't have any mons with Fly right now. Uhm. Well, anyway, you wouldn't have to stand around here alone. You could come with me, if you want, or I could have Tentacruel hang onto me and carry me around while following you. You wouldn't have to wait around here, at least."

"Well, we'll keep an eye out for her," Emily said, "I think most likely she's either back at the monspital or she's been knocked out of the game entirely." She wasn't terribly worried about Kid's safety. Actual physical harm wasn't built into the game mechanics, after all. But tracking her down might take a while. Wait... "Didn't you get one of those messages like when Alexis beat Flea?" she asked, a bit more concerned now.

Sam seems a little surprised at Janet's comment, but he decides not to say anything against it himself just yet. She'd know best, after all, right? And if she thinks this is a good idea...

So for his part, Sam decides to just go along with things, as uncertain as he is about this situation. No need to worry about it, things are sure to be fine. Finding that kid is the important part. "Okay, Janet. Yeah, let's keep going, we needa do our mission."

Louie, however, appears much more supportive of the scenario. He grants Leafshade a brisk nod and falls in step at her side, peering out at the route ahead of them and waiting for the word to resume their trip onwards.

Early Game:

The path ahead is covered with high grass, with a few 'humans' in the path; Monstrainers to give the player some early game income experience for their freshly caught Mons to get them going strong early on. They could try to avoid them, or do battle with them to get any money and information they may have.

Max tilts his head and holds his chin in thought.

"You know, that might actually be pretty interesting. Might also be helpful experience for connecting with vehicles in the real world." Max nods. "Besides, whatever we're doing, since it's down to just us two, we should probably do it together."

Max's hand leaves his chin and points ahead, at nothing in particular. "But, wait, isn't it really draining? Last time you were only diving for a few minutes, but when you came out it was like you hadn't slept in days."

"Anyway," Max starts, as he shields his eyes to look up, "whatever we do, I'd like to wait until I hear back from Swellow."

Enzo nodded.

"That's fine, we can wait a minute or two. And, it kind of is. Time flows differently when you;re deep diving. Janet and I seemed like we hadn't slept in days because we were in there for about a day from our perspective, and I hadn't slept the night before. Which was stupid, but still."

Max grins and pumps his fist. "Ha-ha! You rock, Swellow." Swellow seems to be well aware of this fact, but nonetheless is appreciative of the compliment.

Looking to Hovertank, Max levels his left hand with the ground and slowly lowers it. In response, Hovertank lowers itself a little, making it easier for Max and Saguaro hop on top. "C'mon, Enzo, let's check it out! Swellow, lead the way!"

Eager to get to his first own monsbattle fight, Sam runs up ahead of Janet and Leafshade at the sight of the trainers. Grinning, he waves his arms towards the first one to catch sight of him, waiting for the fight to start. "Hey, over here! I bet we'll beat you!" Yeah, the trainer probably won't understand him, but so what?

Rolling his eyes, Louie follows close behind. Though Sam's display is shameful, at least this will be an opportunity to practice skills far too rusty. But if this sort of thing keeps up, he will need to have a long talk with Leafshade some time soon.

Ambassador Leafshade looked ahead at the trainers, feeling a little nervous. "All right, Lauren," she said mostly to herself, clenching one paw into a fist. "It's time for us to face our destiny, as battlemon and trainer!" With a determined look, Ambassador Leafshade carefully adjusted her furret-sized hat, and scampered towards the neare--

Eager to get to his first own monsbattle fight, Sam ran up ahead of Janet and Leafshade at the sight of the trainers.

Early Game:

Lucky for Leafshade and Sam, the first match..Is a dual battle! Twins Cloe and Flo want to battle!

Twin Cloe sends out...Zigzagoon!

Twin Flo sends out...Rattata!

This should be interesting.

"Go, Louie!"

Louie strolls up with utter dignity, staring at his foes, already watching their every movements for the weaknesses in their defense. Holding his weapon at the ready, he watches patiently, calculating the perfect attack.

"Peck!"

...He harumphs. Or he can just do that.

Stepping forward to the zigzagoon - battlemons today, really - he unleashes a devastating Peck attack!

"Lauren, go!" Lauren appeared in a furious flash of light and immediately turned to Ambassador Leafshade.

"What is wrong with you, locking me up in there like that! I said I was sorry! I mean, even if we can't be a team anymore we could at least be friends! FRIENDS DON'T SHOVE YOU INTO TINY LITTLE BALLS! Do you have ANY idea how uncomfortable it was in there? I mean seriously--"

Ambassador Leafshade raised a paw. "Lauren, r--"

Lauren's anger immediately drained away to be replaced by panic. She hurriedly raised her hands and said, "Wait, wait, I take everything back! Let's be friends again! Let's be a team! You can be the leader! Just don't put me back in there!"

Ambassador Leafshade's whiskers drooped. "I'm sorry, I just..." she shook her head. "Right! Not now! Like I was saying, 'Lauren, right behind you!'"

"What?" Lauren turned to see their opponents. "....oh." She coughed in embarrassment. Ambassador Leafshade looked a bit guilty. "So I guess I'm fighting now?" Ambassador Leafshade nodded. "Well, what moves do I have now? I don't feel like I'm allowed to punch or kick anything..."

"Let's check the menu..." Ambassador Leafshade said, as she pulled up the screen. There was a moment of absolute silence as they both read the single word. Then they both started talking at once.

"Ohmigosh this is so cool!"
"Oh man I'm so jealous!"
"This is just like in the first issue--"
"I bet you'll get new powers after..."
"This is going to be FANTASTIC!"

Lauren squealed with glee and turned towards the enemy. Her face took on an expression of cold judgement and she placed her hands on her hips and glared fiercely at the enemy. "You! Villains who attack girls on the road will know the wrath of a warrior of justice! In the name of Deck City..." she brought her left arm up towards her right shoulder and pointed with her right hand at the offending rattata "...I will punish you! Wunderkind power..." She thrust her right hand towards the sky, all fingers outstretched. "MAKE UP!"

Lauren used TRANSFORM

The Rattata looks confused, as Lauren begins to glow, as she begins to use Transform!

...then...Lauren begins to feel squishy.

...Then she begins to sound squishy.

And she feels a new power surge through her, as her attack takes hold...!

Sparkles! Theme music! An elaborate costume change sequence! These are but a few of the things that did not occur! There was, however, a moment of...considerable confusion, and her costume did change, although...not the way she was hoping.

She was dressed in a bulky bodysuit, with paw-like gloves and boots preventing any sort of fine manipulation with her hands. It was purple everywhere except on her stomach, where it was a light cream color. A pair of large, round purple ears perched atop the head of the outfit. The only part of her that wasn't covered was her face, which was overshadowed by a long hood stretching out in front of her face, ending in two large, blunt teeth. Thin whiskers extended from the sides of the hood, twitching int he air slightly as she moved. In short, Lauren stood, dressed in a ridiculous full-body mascot costume of a rattata.

Lauren looked down at herself and sputtered incoherently for a couple seconds.

"Aw man," groaned Ambassador Leafshade. "I was hoping for something a lot cooler..."

"Hmph," said Lauren, crossing her arms. "Ditto."

Louie's peck does terrible, terrible damage to the Zigzagoon! Critical hit!

Zigzagoon fainted!

Lauren, however, has become...Rattata.

Her level's still a bit higher, but...It's attacks are pretty silly.

Enzo landed near Kid's Zigzagoon, looking worried as ever. Mons generally stayed with trainers, after all. The way this game was changing due to their presence wasn't fun at all right now.

Enzo looked defeated at first, and red faced, before he considered... Pepper belonged to Kid. There would be a flag specific to her in Pepper's code. Just searching for Elfin Trainer and checking for every in game instance could take a while, but having that flag too should be enough to find Kid! She should have the only code with both markers!

"I've got an idea. Hold still, Pepper. This is going to help Kid."

He started analysing Pepper's code, providing it cooperated.

Enzo blinks in surprise. Back in the database, he could analyze anything. Apparently not here though. He sat down, looking at Pepper and trying to think. What else could he do? He had kept track of where they flew, in case they needed to get back. And even if he couldn't figure that out for certain, he was sure that Max was used to air navigation, so they could work together if Enzo messed this part up. Surf had produce a wave, which on land like this would have moved out in kind of a fan pattern...

"Pepper, is this where you landed after the big wave?"
