Navin smirked.
"We're not that bad. I mean, the cafeteria serves hot dogs. We can't all be horrible. No, don't bother running, we've got the place surrounded already. What you need to do is drop your weapons, and come out so we can try to keep both of you alive. There're things going on neither of us understand right now, and the more of us that are alive, the more likely that we'll stay alive. Got it? Good. Now drop your bloody weapons so you can see your girlfriend."

Well, worst comes to worst, we pry information from them, then kill them. Although Dane won't like it, reinforcements SeeD or not is a damned good idea.

Ash sighed, he was successful. He smiled at the girl, "Are you alright?" he asked. He felt that was the best thing to ask, before questioning the poor girl about what happened to her and her squad.

Both soldiers, who's attention had immediately turned towards Navin once he'd begun speaking, reacted quite differently. One dropped his gun, kneeling down and placing his hands behind his head.

The other brought his rifle upwards, aiming at Navin.

(If Anjelai's been moving to get these two in her sight, she can provide cover fire. And Navin can always try to do something himself.)

---

"Yeah...I'm fine now. Sir." she added hastily, recognising who she was talking to now.

"Give her a moment to rest" piped the student who'd just healed her. "She'll need a minute or three to recover her strength."

The girl nodded as well, confirming the statement.

"Bit of an impasse we have here, isn't there? I want to live, you want to live, we both want to find out what the hell is with the rampant destruction going on. If you kill me, you'll end up dead as well. Here's the deal. We'll both drop our weapons on three. Alright? Does that sound fair to you?"

The soldier didn't lower his gun, the man clearly not trusting Navin.

"Damnit man!"

It was the other soldier that spoke up.

"Even if you kill him, the others out there are gonna kill us if we fight! Just drop your damn gun!"

The soldier hesitated, then knelt down to the ground, preparing to drop his weapon, then stopped, looking up at the SeeD, waiting for him to do the same.

Navin dropped his trident, true to his word.
"Alright then. I'm glad we could get this settled. Now...are there any other soldiers of yours anywhere near here?"
He tried to make it clear from his body language that he was in no danger, just in case a fellow SeeD WAS watching.

Oblivious.

Postby Jak Snide » Fri Jan 03, 2003 4:19 pm

The soldier placed his weapon on the ground as well, and the kneeling one, suddenly acquiring a new sense of security, rose to his feet.

"We're the last 3 left here, it seems." he said, pointing the the captured man among the others in Navin's detachment. The second one rose to his feet as well, taking his turn in talking.

"You killed everyone when you arrived, and of course those in the several other bases around here as well."

Quite clearly, a hint of aggression had crept back into the soldier's voice, being none to pleased to see all his comrades die.

Navin stopped.

"If we were the ones who destroyed the bases, obviously meaning we are some sort of pantheon of gods, why would we bother keeping you alive? No. That wasn't us. There're more people here than just you and us. I want to know as much as you do. "

Anjelai kept Navin and the survivors in her sights.

Well, he looks safe right now... but the others' body language...

Then she mused slightly, wondering how Dane would feel if he learned of the small truce that Navin appeared to have set up.

Heh. Well, piffle on HIS opinion.

"What d'ya mean it wasn't you?! You've got the governments actual support!?"

When SeeDs were called in, they tended to go in dependant of their contractors physical support, unless some of their own forces were unable to withdraw. Thus, the rebel's surprise.

Navin scratched the back of his neck.

"Well, unless the government guys had orders to shoot everyone including the SeeD's...which, given the fact you're rebelling, actually sounds like it could be pretty close to the truth..."

Chit chat.

Postby Jak Snide » Sun Jan 05, 2003 8:16 am

"Wait, there's a third party at work here, and it's attacking both us and you?!"

The man who was less willing to surrender clearly found this revelation quite a shock.

"It doesn't make sense." The other shook his head from side to side. "There no one who'd be interested in intervening besides the government, and they certainly wouldn't shoot at their own allies."

"Maybe these mercenaries here have some old enemies who've followed them here?" The aggressive one sneered, not happy at all.

Navin bit his lip a bit..

"Alright, that could be right, but that doesn't change much, does it? The point is they're killing us, they're killing you, and we need to kill _them_. Now that we've established there's a bloody third party, and they're wantonly killing people, we need a strategy. First, I'd really like to know if anything explosive is here. Because if that goes, the irony would be deadly enough.

Hey! This isn't a chit chat mission!

Postby Choark » Sun Jan 05, 2003 7:01 pm

Shasti bit her lip as she stood near Anjei, and let Navin deal with these men. Prehaps it would all end okay but she had to admit, even though she did dissaprove of Danes gunhoe attitude, she felt safer when he did that then talking to people they were hired to "take out".

-----

Dane grunted and groaned and once again played with the radio, finally snapping it all back into place. He hadn't said anything but in one of his rages he had snapped the radio after talking to Old Man Ash and had spent this time fixing it.

Counting the time in his head he guessed they could spend five more minutes here until they needed to meet up on the main objective spot.

"Five minutes! Then we're gone! If they aren't all dead yet, kill em or tie em up so hard they can only just breath!" He shouted out.

Bloody idiots, this was a take over job, not a recon mission or time to playing spy's. Dane headed out and waited for the crew outside, watching out for any last minute surprise attacks.

"Dane? Please, stick that gunblade somewhere rather private. I do believe we're calling a truce with the enemy until the unknown is weeded out. None of us know what's going on, and there's no point continuing when these guys might save our lives or we might save theirs."

Ash sighed as he looked at his other students. "So that's about 3 or more left of the survivors. We shouldn't stop looking for them. We need to give her *gestures to the girl* some time to recover and rest up. But after that we need to continue onward." he finally looked down at the girl. "Anything you can tell us?" he asked in a gentle voice.

XP Unto you, Cho.

Postby Jak Snide » Mon Jan 06, 2003 10:29 am

Navin noticed the two soldiers in front of him giving him rather odd looks, one of them glancing off towards Dane.

"Your CO?" he asked, pointing at the firebrand.

---

"Yeah," he said, her voice strained and weak. "We were en route to the main objective, and then these guys in black appeared out of nowhere. They...killed everyone else. I was hit, but managed to make it here before collapsing."

She was clearly distressed. Seeing her class mates and friends cut down in front of her was obviously not doing wonders for her mood.

Hee, you guys just love the sound of your voices

Shasti again didn't say much but walked into view, ready to give a good horrible soul tearing stare to anyone who was about to bad mouth her brother.

He may be a little.... angry at times but she didn't need anymore comments at this moment, besides he kinda of had a point, they needed to get to there main objective.

We're just soldiers after all, kinda of, we're not meant to be making all these decisions...

She remained quiet though, she wasn't going to talk against Navins desicions in front of these soldiers, it wouldn't be the professional thing to do, plus it might ruin any chance he did have.

Ash sighed as he realized how she was dealing with this still... "I'm sorry... forgive me." he said as he pondered next on what to do...

He looked at her, "Was there any other survivors? Anyone else you saw that managed to make it out?" he asked, desperate for at least THAT answer. He didn't mean to pry or to make her remember the horrible event, but he had to know... he had to know if there were more, so they could possibly be saved as well.

"Yes, he is. *coughunfortunatelycough*. Now, we have somewhere we need to get going. And you are either going to come with us, or we'll kinda HAVE to kill you. And y'know how that sort of thing goes. So..er..just leave your weapons here, because I highly doubt there'll be combat, and if there is, we'll try to protect you as best you can."
He said the next thing rather quietly.
"Even if I have to stab Dane to do it."

Well, with any luck, they'll trust me now.

"C..can't you just, you know, tie us up here and come back for us later?"

The soldier originally in favour of surrender didn't seem to like the idea of being carted into a combat zone without weapons.

"Look, just shut up. It's not like we got any choice in the matter is it?"

The second soldier turned to Navin, seeming to be a fair bit more trusting than before.

"Okay, we'll go with."

---

The girl looked down at the ground.

"No...I don't think anyone else did make it. I didn't see any, at least..."

She obviously hoped that some had survived the onslaught, even if she knew the chances of this being the case were low.

Navin nodded, leading them out. "Personally, if I were you, I'd stick with the people who had the weapons. It's not like we're expecting you to fight with us. You can probably just hang out in the back. Alright?"

Both of the men nodded, although the first seemed a bit hesitant.

The third man, who'd surrendered earlier, looked on at the three of them, a fair bit desperate to know what was to become of them.

Dane looked up to see Navin and co with the group of soldiers and unsurprisenly was a little shocked to see them still moving about.

"Okay, what's the deal?" He said with a nod to the soldiers, with a overally calm voice.

Shasti, who knew her brother quite well in some cases, could tell when he had honestly been taken by surprise. The thought of taking the soldiers with them obviously never entered his mind and she surpressed a giggle at his confusion.

Ash tried his best to look positive about the venture, but he could tell that this girl has been through enough. He placed his hand on her head, gently stroking the back of her hair. "You'll be safe now... *turned his head towards his students* I think it's about time we get out of here and try to find more survivors. *looks back to the girl* I promise you... we'll make it outta here. You have my word." he said, as he got up.

The medic among his men stayed at the girls side, deeming it necessary to watch over the wounded. The other two stood up, and turned to face their commanding officer.

"Orders, sir?" one asked.

"If you give her a couple more minutes, she'll be able to come with us." the medic said, casting another spell on the female student to speed her recovery.

"Simple. Dane, you might have noticed, but these people know the place better than we do. Also, there're people besides the rebels wantonly destroying things. So, if we have a surrender at least, that means we can at least have fewer casualties, which is always a good thing. Now, quite frankly, you can _try_ to pull rank at me, but I really don't care anymore. What matters is that the rebellion is quelled now, and we need to get out of here. Now lead the way."

Dane looked at Navin, then to the soldiers, then to Navin again. His thinking was along the lines of 'How likely am I going to get into trouble for this?', 'How much do I care?' and 'How much will I laugh when they shoot him in the back?'.

"Done! They're yours to do whatever it is ya want. Your responisibility and all that. You watch them and you guard them, everyone else is to carry on without stopping to take a piss. The only one slowing down cause of them is you.

"They step out of line once though and I'll kill them" Then his smiled, showing he was looking forward to the idea of them trying to.

"Now, everyone here? Then we're going!"

Then let's get this thing rollin'.

Postby Jak Snide » Fri Jan 10, 2003 3:08 pm

The SeeDs moved out, a trio of prisoners in tow, heading towards the main objective. The enemy HQ ahead of them was well defended, according to intel, and Shasti hadn't come across a status report on the base when she'd hacked in earlier on. Then again, it might not be a tough battle that awaited them. The mystery soldiers may have come and gone, leaving another desolate wreck behind them.

Or they may still be there.

---

Several minutes passed, and Ash watched the female SeeD's condition improve. Soon enough she was standing, looking shaken but ready to defend herself. One of the two soldiers who'd been standing guard approached the instructor.

"We've checked the immediate area, sir, and there are no sign of survivors."

Then, out of the blue, Fanrico's radio crackled into life.

"Fa*fssssk*o. Ash, can y*fsssk* me?"

Despite the static, he could tell it was Stahl.

"I've fou*fssssssk*students who *fsssrrrrssssk*from the others. Talki*fsssk*..out "men in black." Pro*fsk*ing to main objective now, copy?"

Ash, growling, grabbed the radio, "Ash here, which is unfortunate for some." he spat, his voice no longer sounding gentle.

"What the hell is this all about Stahl? You never told us about this! This is no longer an exam... it's now a matter of pure survival..." he said, looking back at his squad.

"The other two squads were cut down by these strangers in black. What do you have to say Stahl? ANSWER ME THAT!!" said Ash, very close the edge of losing it now.

Ash gritted his teeth, "Yes, one... and she is recovering. I'm confused here Stahl, this whole thing smells of an ambush. Why weren't we informed?" he asked over the radio.

IM:He could be hiding something... or lying to me. He was the one who was plannning this whole thing, he must have known about something... or is hiding some small bit of info.

"I'm not even sure that going on with our current mission won't end in our slaughter as well. So unless you can give me a good clear answer on this situation, explain what the fuck has gone wrong, I'm not going to send these few remaining people in my squad to their DEATHS." replied Ash, still pissed.

More chit chat. Whatdya know!

Postby Jak Snide » Mon Jan 13, 2003 3:54 pm

A pause followed, leaving Ash and his students in the silence of the forest for a moment. Then the reply came.

"As far as I can tell, we've either *frrsk* set up, or this third party is totally rem*fsk*ed from the incident. They don't look like government forces in my opinion, especially since if they were, they would ha*fisskr*en deployed a long time ago. Whoever these people are, they have something against both these rebels and us. However, th*fsk* doesn't change our contract. We'll complete the objective, then get the *fssk* out of here, and deal with whoever these black operators are later."

Ash sighed, maybe he had jumped to conclusions, but he wasn't sure... yet. Stahl had given a good answer... or perhaps one hell of a lie.

Silence hung in the air for a moment, before Ash replied, "Aright... but we're going to accomplish this mission MY way. Stahl... if things get too deep... I advise you to then at that moment order a retreat. I'm in no mood to get these kids killed. Too many have died already. Got it?" he asked.

The students could tell he was unsure of the current situation, he put a hand over the speaker, "I'm trusting him... for now. But I still have my doubts." he informed them, removing his hand from the speaker and awaiting Stahl's reply...

Postby Banjooie » Tue Jan 14, 2003 2:29 pm

Navin sighed.
"Alright? Dane? We know the enemy headquarters are up ahead. Now, here's the question: Do we bother attacking them, or just head to the meeting point? If the rebels are still there, they probably won't be for long...uh...no offense, guys... and we don't have orders to remove the black suits. Personally, I recommend we skip this place and just leave it to our third group. "

He turned to the prisoners of war.
"Alright. There's three of you alive so far. Now, rescuing the rebels sounds all wonderful and heroic, but keep in mind that you're now traitors to the rebellion in their eyes. So I wouldn't start screaming 'Help me!' or anything. You're still unarmed, we can still kill you. So just follow us, and you'll get back to your families soon enough."
