His thugs are going to be a problem. I'll take out the one on the furthest left, closest to us, I'm going to disarm him and use his weapon if I have to, if they shoot things up in here they might cause damage.

Alexis' eyes never left the Commander, but she'd already scanned the small area, analyzed the kind of weapons being used... she didn't have her chips installed, which was a pity, but she was pretty sure she knew how to use that gun. Heeeeh, a small part of her felt like Firm Viper, the one-man army that could infiltrate and take out an entire base of trained super-soldiers, using his quick wits and superior experience to outsmart them.

On three. One, two, three.

Without waiting for acknowledgement from the others, she sprung on her target, intending to go low and sweep him off his legs with her robotic strength and grapple the gun from him.

As she moved, she concluded that Firm Viper was a pretty creepy name.

For all that she'd been practicing with her skills, Emily still had trouble sometimes thinking of herself as Wunderkind. As a result, it wasn't until Kid had been cast aside like some unwanted toy that she thought to hit record. Aesborn might have killed the security systems, but they were going to get at least one decent recording of him posturing like some second-rate super-villain. Not to mention grinding poor Kid's heart under his heel.

Then it was time for her own contribution to the fight. It was here that practice came in handy. Emily took a couple of steps to put herself directly in front of the lead goon before hopping into the air. Twisting herself in the air to put her feet in front of the man's chest, she cut in her boosters at full strength. That ought to deliver one heck of a kick to the chest. Of course, it also sent her flying across the room, but she could fix that.

Careful! He wants his goons to catch us for him, so either he's just stupid or they're stronger than they look...

There wasn't time for much else.

Lauren kicked on the XLR8 to build up what momentum she could as she rushed to the nearest soldier to deliver a flat-palm strike to the chest, hopefully knocking him off balance, and into the others around him.

Enzo was performing his function as a helper to the others. Any attacker that made a move for one of them would be seen long before hand, rifle butt or muzzle could bring harm to one of them, and he trusted his siblings to respond to the threat appropriately. Aim would be corrected, any flaws in armor or weapons that Enzo could see or pull up information on would be displayed. At the same time, Enzo would unapologetically relay to Rivendare that the enemy had engaged them in the Transfer room. He'd also include that they had baldly announced their intention to leave the place with a Wunderkind in tow. They were resisting, and any help they could get would be absolutely awesome.

For his part, Enzo was still slotted, and if someone came after him directly he had every intention of giving them a good jolt for their trouble. In the back of his mind, Enzo promised himself that if this turned out to be another test rather than the real deal, half the computers in D-52 wouldn't work for a week.

Alexis leaps! And immediately, it's not going well. Her Wunderkind strength is the only thing stopping the soldier from overpowering HER, instead. Now she's caught in a grapple against an opponant who has more experience in the matter.

Emmy fares better, kicking and knocking the lead "Goon" onto his back, slamming him against the wall...Throwing herself across the room and into the other wall.

Lauren flat-palms yet another soldier, knocking him sprawling to the floor.

At this point, with two of his four men already down, Aesborn prepares to step in, but is interupted.

"Hold it!"

Aesborn turns towards the door, reeling at the sight- All four Aces, and small squad of Deck soldiers. Of the aces, there's the two the children already know- Rivendare, looking quite miffed with his shock stick bouncing against his shoulder, and Anka, standing with a whip at her side, but seeming to be perfectly calm.

Next to Rivendare, the other two- Vulgar, a tall, dark skinned man with a perfect uniform, sun glasses, and a bald head, with his fists at the ready, and Shintaro, a man of similar descent to Anka, standing perfectly stoicly to Rivendare's left.

"Kids, grab..Uh, kid, and come out here. I'll explain all this, once we've got the good Captain sorted out."

"It's commander." Aesborn corrects. Rivendare smirks. "You sure about that?"

Enzo regarded Aesborn the way Juliet tended to regard him and his siblings on an average day. He then dismissed him just as quickly, and checked on the status of his siblings, helping them up and heading towards Kid as he went.

"Got it!"

Oooh, Aesborn was in truh-ble. Silvie would have been smirking like a smirky thing, if not for kid. That made the situation a...bit more serious. She walked towards her sister to see how she was holding up.

Well, that had been a bit painful, Emily reflected, picking herself up. Still, it had worked, more or less. More of an outdoors trick though. Shooting a glare at Aesborn, she set about helping Kid and generally making sure everyone was out of the room.

"H-Hey! Let g-go you b-big oaf!" Alexis cried out angrily as her plan instantly backfired on her, and as she struggled she saw her friends fare much better, which was a bit of an encouragement.

Then the four Aces came in and everything just kind of... stopped.

Picking herself up, she glared at the soldier and then looked over to the Aces, and the other kids, not saying a word. She could've handled it. Totally.

Sam pulls himself off the ground, hardly glancing to Aesborn before heading over with the others to check on Kid. "...Are you okay? I...um...I'm sorry...but they're just jerks. Don't listen to them. They wouldn't deserve you anyway."

The children assist their sister in standing, as some of the D-52 techs rush in to help. Aesborn seems to admit to at least being stymied, for the moment. The techs move the children out of the room, taking Kid elsewhere...They insist she'll be okay.

The Wunderkind are regrouped in their meeting room, the one with the giant table in the middle. The promise of pizza and soda was fulfilled. Rivendare enters after a few minutes, having a seat at the head of the table. "So, I bet you guys have a lot of things you wanna ask, huh?"

"...Yeah." Sam nods, still watching the door anxiously. They said Kid would be all right, but did they have to take her away now when she was still feeling bad? "How come Kid had a body? You said she didn't have one yet. An'...an' who were those people, how come people from Kid's island came here an' how come they knew about us, an' why did Kid know about them?"

And while he's speaking with Rivendare, he opens a comline to Kid; at least people can be with her radiowise. ...Kid? It's okay, you're gonna be okay.

Max took note of Sam's comlink, and thought about adding an audio feed so KId could be a part of the conversation... but not knowing what she's going through right now, he decides to simply record it for her to hear later.

Max is pretty irritated about the whole situation. He's leaning back in his chair, with his arms folded.

"Those are all good questions. I think we all deserve to know what the 'plan' was with Kid. Also, I'd like to know when you're going to start keeping us in the loop. This is, like, what, the third or fourth time you guys knew something we didn't, and it ended up causing trouble? And this time, Kid got hurt. That's not cool, man."

Enzo looked similarly irritated. He has a question he wanted to ask, but was almost afraid to. It could lead to questions about the Unformatted area. Or, it could not. It was relevant to Max's questions, but was it important enough to bring up? He'd wait. If Rivendare wasn't forthcoming, then he'd bring it up.

Rivendare frowns. "Kid's situation is...Not good." He says. "Enkulai's been breathing down our necks to get her back since she was brought here, but they very specifically wanted her in Wunderkind form. They weren't interested in her, they wanted a Wunderkind. Probably to reverse engineer one of your bodies. Not only that, but..."

Rivendare looks towards the ceiling, looking for the right words. "Her parents disowned her immediately after the accident. She doesn't know that yet. Basically, she's an orphan, simply because her parents ended up being too shallow to deal with her being a Wunderkind on top of her condition."

He looks around briefly, with all seriousness. "We did not keep you guys out of the loop. We were not making excuses with Kid. Her body honestly wasn't finished till-" He glances at his watch- "About three minutes from now. They're putting the final touches on it now. What you saw was a second body we were requested to make for her. After all, she's still got a movie contract and career, and we thought she might like to get back to that. When the power went out- Which we're still thankful for- She was booted into that body for some reason.

"The 'plan' was that we knew Enkulai was trying to collect their 'weapon'. We didn't know they were going to get desperate enough to crawl through the air ducts to try and get it. Something has them desperate for one of you guys, and we honestly had no idea how much they wanted one until tonight."

He leans back in his chair. "Anything else?"

"Damn."

Max's irritation shifts targets to Enkulai in general and Kid's parents specifically, but he feels a little better having some idea what's going on. He uncrosses his arms, and rests one on the table.

"So... Kid's got two bodies? One for combat, and one for... everything else, I guess? That's pretty cool, actually." Kid had more of a public presence than the rest of them, and it was neat that she had a chance to get some of that back. But she's probably got a lot of healing to do before she's ready for that again. Freakin' sucks. Your parents support your carrer as long as it makes them money, and then ditch you 'cause you got bit by a shark and went digital? 'Unconditional love,' indeed.

"So, what's the deal with Enkulai, anyway? If they're worried about something, can't they try diplomacy like a civilized nation? Why do they have to be dicks about it?"

"We don't know if they're worried, so much as trying to start something." Rivendare says. "They tried diplomacy, but..Well, the fact that they kept referring to Kid as "Their weapon", we didn't care for that."

Enzo still looked... put out, but he didn't look angry like before.

"There's something else that's been bugging me. A while back, I asked you about project Winterstorm, since I found information on it here. It's pretty obvious that Winterstorm attacked here recently, when we were on our mission to escort Ellastic. We were fine, this time. That's great... but everything we learned about her and how to deal with her from the poetry she was spouting. You promised me before that that you were going to get me something. That was a month ago. You haven't ever gotten back to me. Not even, like, to say you're still looking."

Enzo paused for a moment. He looked like he was going to say something else, but nothing came out. It felt like there should be something else to say, but now that he'd started and gotten to the end he felt... wrong. He shrank into his chair a little bit, feeling nervous about challenging Rivendare, but managed to finish:

"What happened?"

Rivendare frowns, darkening ever so slightly. "Enzo, I'm still looking. There WAS something about Winterstorm in our files, years ago, but they've been scrubbed clean, and I'm trying to find out why. But you need to keep in mind, I do have other responsibilities here, and usually don't have a lot of time to shoot the shit with you guys. You need to be patient, and for the love of all that's holy, you need to trust that we're NOT screwing you guys."

"...Um...I have another question." Sam glances briefly to Enzo, asking in part just to pull attention away from him for his sake. "What's...um...what's gonna happen to Kid? The door opens suddenly, with an extra walking in. "What? Of course they won't let them take me."

With that, Kid enters the room in a fully Wunderkind body, with the same uniform she's got in the database. She skates on her XLR8 system to a chair, before sitting heavily in it. "This is too cool to do alone, so I gotta stick with my team, right?"

It was good to hear that things were more or less under control, and Emily felt a little bad about assuming Riverdare had been playing politics over Kid. As it turned out, they might not have given him so much rope intentionally, but Aesborn had certainly managed to hang himself with it. She had a sinking suspicion that he'd only been the first and most obvious person to try and get his hands on them. And how long would it go on for? Until their bodies' designs were readily available to all? Given all the random kids who'd gone digital, the technology that was the bottleneck, rather than the Wunderkind themselves. Food for thought, and indicative of trouble ahead.

Lauren rushes over to Kid as well with a little squeal.

"I know, right? Those guys were jerks! They wouldn't know a good thing if it kicked them in the face!" Lauren folded her arms and scowled. "Hmph. The next time someone tries to kidnap one of us, they'd better treat us girls fairly. At the very least!"

Alexis literally lit up like a christmas tree when Kid came in. She'd been expecting the worst, and she agreed a lot with Max and Enzo... but she didn't want to say that. She didn't have much to add to the conversation, so instead she just tip-toed over to Kid and squeezed her hand briefly.

"I-I'm glad you're o-okay, Kid..."

"I think we can cope," Emily said, "Maybe we ought to be getting up to speed on the major players though, since a bunch of people seem to be showing an interest in us." Politics wasn't something she'd really been interested in up until now, but she thought it was about time for a crash course.

Silvie remained silent while Rivendere discussed politics with the rest of the kids. "Their weapon"? Is that the only thing Enkulai thought Kid was good for? All that they were good for? And if one country thought that, then how would the rest of the world see them? She looked down at the table, unable to say anything, while she began to filter out the rest of the conversation.

That is, until Kid walked in. She looked up immediately and beamed at her, and shouted, "Kid! I'm glad you-hey, wait, you mean Mr. Hayward?" Silvie looked over at Rivendere, and said, "My folks met him once. That guy's crazy."

Rivendare leaves the room, leaving the kids alone for now. Kid, finally managing to get free of the others, grabs a slice of pizza...And even Juliet seems to be glad she's back. "Well..I guess I know where things stand." Kid says, sitting again. "And at least the uniform will draw attention away from my ears. Hey, now that we're out, I should start sparring with you guys!"

Mission: 08- Gearhead
Location: Deck City- The Deck Complex
July 31st, 3756
12:30 PM.

Another rainy day in Deck City, another day of the Wunderkind assigned to spend the day outside of the Database. Kid's been in high spirits today, what with having a body and all, and is taking on all comers at Ping-Pong. Juliet's nowhere to be found, thankfully, and Janet's in the small library on their floor, reading as usual.

A little after lunch time, several of the children get an email from Rivendare-

"Hey guys. Just wanted to pass this on, there's another new 'Kind here, but they're not in your unit, or technically any unit at all. She's down in the mech hanger, you guys might want to go and talk to her, espeically Max and Emily. She's got some pretty big ideas for you guys."

Alexis had been keeping to the music-room since she'd been regularly let out, often spending hours with the piano and other instruments inside, but she'd saved enough time to take Kid up on the ping-pong challenge.

With the arrival of the e-mail, she'd given the others a confused look, but had put down the ping-pong racket and headed downstairs to the hangar.

A new wunderkind? I wonder why we're meeting her down in the hangar... Alexis sent out to the others, her internal voice calm as always, although her appearance hardly hinted at it.
