(GMing Action: d20 Roll: Hit?: 16 Freeze?: 18 *wonders how End's character be so lucky when it comes to these rolls*)

The ice blast hit as intended, freezing a huge portion of the tentactle in the process. A new pain shot up the Hellspawn's limb, an extremely chilling cold. The tendril was stopped in it's tracks, as the abomination could no longer control it.

(OOC: Tentacle #4 is frozen solid, and can shatter upon any given force.)

-Tentacle #2 (Closest to Kilisha)-

The writhing wouldn't stop, the Hellspawn was trying it's best to free it's captured appendage within the succubus' grasp.

(GMing Action: d20 Roll: 6)

But the woman's grip was too great, the claws in too deep. The tendril was at the mercy of the succubus.

-Duile- *STUCK*

The Half-Elf could not move. "Stinking son of a bitch... what the hell is this shit?" he muttered while continuing to try and free himself.

-Tentacle #3 (Closest to Duile)-

Duile was at the mercy of the Hellspawn, and it wanted to make him pay for stabbing it repeatedly through out the battle. Taking the closest tentacle that near it's target, the Hellspawn attacked.

(GMing Action: d20 Roll: 16)

The sound of a cracking whip could be heard, as the tentacle tore through Coppermirth's shirt, and put in a deep gash upon his chest. Forcing the Half-Elf backward, but instead of falling over, the sticky strands of the mucus kept him on his feet. But it didn't ease the pain any less.

-Tentacle #4 (Closest to Bunny)- *FROZEN*

-Kilisha-

Her vision clearing up, Kilisha looked down at the tentacle in her grasp. The thing was writhing around, something ugly running from the open slits that her claws had made. She felt no pity for the thing, only a burning, passionate hatred. She growled to make it clear that she was the predator. Then she bore her teeth, along with two sharp, carnivorous fangs, and went for a bite, intent on tearing away the flesh of her prey.

(GMing Action: d20 Roll: 14)

Her teeth sank deep into the tendrils skin, breaking it's slimy epidermis to the gooey ilk underneath. While a bite had been scored, the intentions of the succubus could not be called a success. The skin proved quite resilient at this point.

Bunny spun around and stared at the frozen tentacle. She smiled.

"You are a bad boy!" She shouted and lifted her leg into an ax kick, bringing her heal down hard on the icy tentacle. It had been her hope that the pain would make it release Dullie.

(GMing Action: d20 Roll: 17)

The kick connected and the frozen tentacle shattered as intended. The Hellspawn screamed it's rage at the group, it's limbs being seriously depleted.

(OOC: Half of the Tentacles have been destroyed. Now you can take some shots at the Hellspawn.)

-Tentacle #5 (2nd Closest to Astrynax)- *Destroyed*

-Tentacle #6 (2nd Closest to Kilisha)-

Getting tired of toying with the succubus, the Hellspawn decided to just bat the infernal wench off of it's endangered tentacle.

(GMing Action: d20 Roll: 12)

Kilisha felt a sudden impact from her side, the abomination was now trying to smack her off of it's captured appendage.

While causing significant bruising, and not to mention pain... the succubus was still hanging on.

"Back Row"
-Hellspawn-

Not backing down from it's attempts to free it's captured limb, the Hellspawn sucked up some air within it's cavernous mouth. Heaving again, the Gaping Maw shot out another wad of spit, aiming for Kilisha.

(GMing Action: d20 Roll: 15)

The wad of saliva hit the succubus with full force, successfully nailing it's intended target. Her claws forcifully removed from the embattled tendril's skin, the succubus hit the ground and stayed there. As a matter of fact, she was stuck to it... much like her fellow party member Duile. Lying there, and open for any attack, should it come.

*Kilisha is stuck for one turn*

-Astrynax-

Astrynax briefly glanced at his companions. Well, they weren't dead yet. Perhaps they were somewhat competent.

His concern was disposing of this nuisance, though.

This in mind, he raised both palms, charged them, and released a mixed elemental blast (with a bit o' light) upon the Hellspawn's mouth.

(GMing Action: d20 Roll: 13)

The mixed elemental blast seered into the Hellspawn's flesh, causing visible damage to it. Luck was not with the mage this time, as he obviously had fully intended to destroy the abomination right there.

But it still caused the Demon Mouth a good degree of pain.

-Tentacle #2 (Closest to Kilisha)-

With the succubus thrown off of it by the spit attack, the now free tendril was put to work getting a measure of revenge against the woman.

Spiralling towards her, the vine-like appendage shot towards it's intended target.

(GMing Action: d20 Roll: 11)

The stuck succubus felt impact near her mid-section, as the whip-like tentacle slashed itself across her back (since she was stuck laying on her stomach). Course the impact didn't budge her much... since the saliva still had it's hold.

-Duile-

The pain from his opponent's last attack sent a surge of anger and adrenaline through the Half-Elf's body. The saliva was weaker now, so Coppermirth deftly tore through the sticky substance... spear-scythe in hand, raised for the attack.

(GMing Action: d20 Roll: 20 *Whew!*)

With a swing of his hand, Duile sliced through the slimey exterior of the tentacle... making what was one now two... as the seperate parts of the tentacles went different directions. One piece fell not too far from Coppermirth's feet.. as what remained of the tentacle itself writhed and shook with pain.

The Demon Mouth screamed in pain, a noise that was becoming commonplace during this battle.

Duile felt good... success always was the sweetest feeling.

-Tentacle #3 (Closest to Duile)- *Destroyed*

-Kilisha- *STUCK*

(You can write something down Seethe, but your character's stuck to the ground. Just keep that in mind, k?)

A sticky situation

Unread postby Seethe347 » Mon Mar 01, 2004 3:06 pm

The pain from the last blow made Lisha yelp. She struggled to get up, but the saliva holding her to the ground wasn't going to allow that. All she could do for now was lay there.

"You'll regret this," she snarled.

Astrynax briefly snorted in disdain.

He then began charging up again.

He wanted to make sure this next attack would hit..

He just had to hope the others would keep it busy in the meantime..

Bunny dashed over to Kilisha and began to jump around.

"Slow slow your so slow!" Bunny called to the hell-spawn. "Come on now, can you catch me? Dancing running pray is so much more fun! Don't you think so slow thing?"

(ooc attempting to use provoke)

She jumped forward and spun around.

"Little tasty rabbit to fast for the slime slug!" She sang.

It was her hope to get its attention away from Kilisha.

(GMing Action: d20 Roll for provoke: 16)

(OOC Note: Anything 18 or higher would have made it seething angry at Bunny as well.)

Bunny got her wish, she drew the attention of the creature away from the succubus. Now she'd have to deal with it's wrath.

-Tentacle #6 (2nd Closest to Kilisha, Now Bunny)-

Without hesitation, it struck.

(GMing Action: d20 Roll: 13)

The usagijin felt a tight constriction around her waist, like that of a snake. The Demon Maw snarled as it raised the rabbit-creature into the air. The idea of eating the Usagijin made it's disgusting mouth drool, saliva oozing to the ground.

It then began to pull Bunny towards it, opening it's cavernous mouth in the process. Rows and rows of razor sharp teeth revealed before her, each section waiting to mash her to pulp.

Back Row
-Hellspawn-

When it's prey was close enough, the Demon Mouth's tongue licked it's lips. In the process sending more bits of saliva in various directions.

Finally... though it was a pain, and it had cost it some of it's tentacles... the Mouth was finally going to eat.

Bringing itself out of it's hole even more, the sickening abomination raised it's toothy maw towards Bunny, fully intent on turning her into it's next meal.

Without thinking, and overly anxious to feast, the Hellspawn thrust it's jaws forward.

(GMing Action: d20 Roll: 3)

Bunny could only sit and stare as the rows of razor sharp teeth ascended towards her. Each individual tooth capable of tearing flesh from bone within a matter of seconds. Multiply that by about six hundred, and it turns into instant, bloody mush.

*SNAP!!!!*

Bunny looked back up towards her attacker, the jaws closed just centimeters from her body. The small usagijin realizing how much of a close shave she had just been in.

It had been so close!!!! The Hellspawn cried out in frustration, it had been so... close. Without another thought, it reared up from another try...

Astrynax noted the Usagi-jin's peril.

He cursed slightly. He knew this was going to happen.

But he didn't want to skip on targeting the monster.

So he went for the best of both worlds.

He sent both hands out - one at the tentacle around the Usagi-jin, the other towards the monster, and let the charged energy fly from both.

(GMing Action!: d20 Roll: Monster: 17 Usagi-jin Rescue: 13)

Those in the group were witness to a grand show of true magical power, as the beams shot forwards at their intended targets.

A loud scream echoed through out the depths of Belvoken.

The imperiled Bunny soon found herself landing on the ground, close to the abomination. The smell of burnt slime lingering, as the beam had singed the appendage's skin, making it automatically relinquish it's grip on the potential meal.

But the Demon Mouth was another story all together, as the brunt of the two handed magic attack struck it the hardest. Whole sections of it's flesh had been seered off by the blast, and it was now making a slight gurgling noise. Slowly it tried to raise it's injured body off the ground. The stench of it's scorched flesh was unbearable.

It was lucky to even be still standing there, as it turned it's attention to the mage.

Shaking with the still lingering pain, and holding itself up by only a few threads, the Demon Maw slowly withdrew from the combat and back into the hole that it had crawled out of. A meal is never worth this much trouble.

Soon, all signs of the abomination disappeared into the dense fog surrounding them. Only a few dismembered tentacles were left behind.

-[End Battle]-

Duile walked forward a few steps, his elvish ears twitching, searching for any signs of that creature.

"It's gone." he said aloud whilest turning towards the others, as the scythe retracted back into it's port on the spear.

"I gotta feeling that this is only the beginning of our problems in Belvoken." Duile muttered as walked over to Kilisha.

"Would you like some assistance m'lady?" he said, grinning.

"Hmph! Coward."

Astrynax released his built up power, finally. He hadn't suffered damage, yet. Good. He desired some rest.. but that could be taken care of at some other time.

He went to the process of retrieving his hood and cloak, and dressing back up in them.

Much better.

Kilisha coughed again, then shuddered at the pain that resulted in her back and side where she had been hit hard.

"Oh... gods...," she whispered.

She laid her head down on the ground, feeling worn out now that the threat was gone. She really didn't feel like trying to pull herself out of this saliva.

"Assistance...," she said. "I... I need... yes..."

Duile nodded and out popped the scythe on his spear again. Holding his weapon at an angle, Duile drew it across the sticky substance slowly.

A sound like that of fishing being gutted with a knife was heard and the succubus was freed of the saliva. Duile though knew he had nothing to do with it. The saliva that had hit him earlier gradually lost it's strength within minutes. He just took advantage of the weakened chemicals of the goo.

The Half-elf retracted the scythe back into it's port, "Glad to be of assistance." he said in a low voice, before holding out his hand towards Kilisha.

*A decent distance away from the group*

Three round bright eyes, assembled in a triangle alignment, watched their movements with great interest. Like a hawk it observed them all, the thick fog that surrounded them was of no problem to it.

It continued to silently watch... waiting for the right chance...

"Are we moving on, now, or are we going to yap?" Astrynax stood forward aways, waiting for the rest of the group to move on.

Apparently, he would have to stick with them, so as not to tempt the gods again.

Bah. Back in the day, I could've just wiped them all out.. or made a deal with the things here, let them pick apart these..

Well, no matter, despite his deepest thoughts and desires.

After helping Kilisha up, Duile got out of the way of the rapidly advancing usagijin.

Turning to Astrynax, he replied, "Don't you think we should rest for a while? I'm no magic expert here, but I'm pretty sure you're getting a bit weathered after having to repeatedly summon up your energies twice within about the same hour." as he pulled out a very bruised apple from within his leather pouch.

"So how about we take a five mintue break?" asked Coppermirth as he bit into the crimson-colored fruit.

"Fine."

The mage grumpily strode a short distance away from the group and turned his back to them, staring out into the town.

No, I've changed. I'll hold disdain for them, but I was redeemed. My aim is to protect Gaera, at whatever cost. Regardless of who I have to work with.

This in mind, he decided to get a brief bite to eat. Out came the salad material and fork, into the mouth went the various veggies.

As he did this, he focused his senses on the surrounding town once again.

.. that headache was still there, but it was disappearing.

*To Astrynax*
The town seemed to be alive with countless voices, coming in and out of his head. Voices full of sorrow, and grief. Voices full of evil were present as well.

Strange sensations came from all directions, teemings with wickedness and malevolence that would even impress the mage.

*Duile*

Trying his best to ignore the screams that travelled along the winds, Duile sat down near Bunny and Kilisha. Still going to work on finishing off the apple he was currently eating.

"I'm... just a little... bruised," said Kilisha, answering Bunny's question.

She retrieved her bow, then sat down next to the elf and the usajin. She wasn't feeling hungry. Just worn out. She sat and listened to the screams on the wind. They weren't the most pleasant thing to relax to, but she didn't have much of a choice.

"I... wonder where those... sounds... are coming from," she finally said.

"I am glad that you are ok." Bunny said taking out her flute. She then smiled shyly. "I hope you do not mind, but music makes me feel better. I will play some if you like?"

She lifted the flute to her lips and began to play, a softer melody than the one before, her eyes opened and glowed a soft green. Her foot taped out the beat as she played the soft tones, and her horn glowed from under her hood.

Kilisha stared at the ground, thinking about the half-elf's answer to her question. What he said, she had known already, but she didn't want to believe it. She had been telling herself that it was just demons trying to unnerve them. How could the souls of people be damned here, after all? This was a town in Doma, not a hellhole in the underworld. But the voices that were screaming didn't feel like demonic voices to her. She knew that they were tormented souls, and she finally admitted it.

She wanted to listen to Bunny's song, but she couldn't. She had to hear the screams. She wasn't hearing them now as many screams at once. Instead, she was hearing each cry of anguish on its own. Each cry wrenched her heart. She knew the pain that the wailing soul felt, as she had felt it herself. She had been burned by fire, stung by the whip, and beaten by the club, but those weren't the worst torments that she had endured. She had been made to see her brother, Tairn, as the arrow that she had fired drove itself into his throat. Her tormentors had made her see it every day. If she hadn't fired in such haste, if she had just taken better aim... She had been made to see her family. Her mother and father, waiting at home for their son and daughter to return. The family would never be together again, because she had killed her brother.

One long wail from a voice that sounded like that of an elderly man finally broke the heart of the succubus. She didn't make a show of it. She just sat there, staring into the fog. Her sorrow wasn't for herself now. It was for the screaming souls. She felt that their pain was wrong, unjust. She didn't want these souls to be trapped here, and her hatred of the demons that held them grew deeper. Some time passed. She didn't know how much time. It probably wasn't really very long, but it seemed long to her.

"We... probably... shouldn't just... wander around this town... randomly," she finally said. "If we're going... to find the children... we should... get rid of this... fog... first."

Bunny had heard the screams as well. Her long ears followed every sound, and though she heard it she went on playing. She knew that music made her feel better, and it was her secret hope that the lost souls would feel better as well.

She also hoped that the children would hear her song and feel safer knowing that there were others in the town seeking them out.

She stood up, feeling Kilisha sadness. Her song wavered a bit, as her focus shifted. She lowered her flute and sighed.

"Do you think the children heard that?" She asked sadly. "I hope that they, and other souls heard it. I want them to feel some hope."

She then smiled.

"Oh my, for a moment I became quite melancholy. I do not think we can rid the town of the fog Ki li li." She said putting her hands behind her head.

"I feel the being all around us, I think that it is the fog or that the fog is a part of it. Either way," she said sitingdown on the ground and crossing her legs and arms. "We should plan abit, yes that we should. Or at least wait to see what is next to greet us."

Astrynax was silent for a moment.

He then turned back. "I am not content to rest for long here. There is too much around for us to rest."

This area reminded him of the Elemental Centrum, almost.. only the Centrum had at least been familiar to him. This dark, gloomy, evil city of doom was unfamiliar to him in terms of what he sensed.

And he had to admit, despite his arrogance on it, he didn't like it one bit.

Duile sighed, took the last bite of the apple and got up. Tossing the finished fruit aside, the half-elf dusted himself off.

"Yeah," said Coppermirth while stretching his back, "you're right on that one mage. We've rested enough." he finished, looking over at the girls.

Picking up his spear, the half-elf walked towards the fog, "Alright people... let's get this show on the road." as he passed by Astrynax.

Duile, stopping in mid-walk, turned to the mage. "What about you? You feeling up to this right now?" asked the half-elf, implying about the mage's power and enery.

To dispell any thoughts that he might actually care about what happens to the mage or not, Duile added, "I don't want you passing out on us in mid-battle. I don't like having to haul unconscious people around whilest on the job. I'm in no mood for having liabilities on my hands. Understood?" he said, wanting to know this before the group goes any further.

Duile knew that the chances of their success, much less leaving Belvoken in one piece would be cut clean in half if this mage keels over anytime soon. Though he hates their usual stuffy and arrogant attitudes, Duile had to admit that having a mage along with one's group is an invaluable asset.

Kilisha stood and followed Duile. Her face showed that she was still deep in thought.

The group couldn't lift the fog. There was nothing Kilisha could do to help the souls... Nothing... unless she... took them. She was a succubus. Maybe she could take these souls into herself, out of this fog. Yes... No! She would not! She refused to do... that. Ever. She would die before she would consume a soul.

Astrynax scoffed. "Spare me your sympathies. I don't need anyone's help."

To further this statement, he stepped right ahead of the group by a mere foot or so, and resumed walking.

He was not about to let these people, these beings know of his worries. The Usagi-jin was foolish enough to trust the wildlife in the area. How could he be sure the rest were any more reliable?

Yes, he was still a bit tired. He had dealt with worse before, though.

He kept his senses up..

Bunny laughed at Astrynax.

"You talk so tuff but you know that if we hadn't helped you befor you would have been food." She said smiling.

On their way again.

Duile groaned and cursed his actions. The last thing they needed was for everyone to be at each others throats.

"Alright you two... keep it calm here. We're in Hell's Underbelly and the last thing we need is rifts in this motley crew we're running here." trying his best to sound optimistic about the situation.

Never helps when the town has such a dark reputation, specially one that's got piles of bodies stacked up like corn wood. It never makes taking such jobs any easier, and makes one's outlook for success diminished.

"I was only wondering, we hadn't rested too long before you got up again. That's all... ok... Astrynax?" asked the Half-Elf using the mage's name. Pulling up his travelling pouch to his shoulder, while holding his spear-scythe down at his side, Coppermirth trudged on.

"We gotta concentrate more on finding them kids and getting as much distance between us and this demonic shithole as possible." he said walking further into the darkened fog.

Kilisha's sadness finally faded after she was shaken by what she had thought about doing. She decided to put this line of thought away.
