Seryntas planted a foot on the demon's lower back and attempted to drive his greatsword through its back.

Xiao Long was face to face with the warg, and that was not something she'd hoped for. She thankfully had been able to hold onto her sword, and she attempted to bend her arms and stab the warg with her sword, but it was a rather awkward position.

Seryntas' sword broke through the demon's armor and cut into his back, ensuring that he was finished.

Despite the awkward angle, Xiao Long succeeded in stabbing the wolf. The blade pierced through a few vital organs beneath the creature's chest. As its strength quickly faded, Kilisha was able to keep its head pulled away from Xiao Long's face so that it couldn't bite, then she had to push it over to the side so that it didn't fall on the elf.

With the warg dealt with, Kilisha offered her hand to help Xiao Long up.

Seryntas grinned at Ralik as he stood up, wiping his bloodied sword on the fallen incubus. "We make a pretty good team. Let's go find the next one."

Xiao Long grasped the succubus's hand and allowed her to help her up. "Thanks," she said, reachnig down and pulling her sword from the sorceress's chest.

"So, what's next?" she asked, looking out at the scene of chaos.

From somewhere behind the enemy ranks, the sound of a loud horn rang out. The demons who were not engaged in battle at the moment immediately began falling back while most of those who were locked in combat began attempting to break away. Apparently the enemy had decided to retreat to the castle.

Ralic grunted as he looked about for a new enemy. Before long, he gestured toward a potential target. A group of three spiders and a mail-clad succubus carrying a spear stood over the bodies of three fallen orcs. The remains of about six spiders were littered nearby.

As Kilisha considered the next move, she saw the enemies beginning to pull back.

"Maybe... we should join Seryntas," she suggested. "If you put any... stock in that shaman's prophecy... then we should probably all... be together when we... enter that castle."

She couldn't see the bounty hunter through the battle at the moment, but she knew that he had engaged an enemy as Ralic had. She still remembered where he had been when she had last seen him.

"Alright, let's go," Xiao Long said, sheathing her swords and breaking in a run, running back to where she remembered Seryntas fighting.

"Okay..." Seryntas said, thinking for a moment. "Ignore the spiders for now, I guess. We're tough guys, we can take a bite or two. We rush the bitch with the spear, I attack first and try to either take her weapon out wide or get it all the way out of her hands, then you go low in a weak spot in her armor."

Ralic grunted affirmatively and began the charge upon the enemy succubus. As he and Seryntas rushed in, the succubus took a step back and let the spiders get in front of her. She expected the two large warriors to launch their opening attacks against the creatures, at which point she would move in with her spear.

She was surprised to see that this didn't happen. Neither Seryntas nor Ralic made any move against the spiders that leapt up at them, two onto the human and one onto the orc, and began searching for exposed skin to sting. She had to move hastily to parry Seryntas' first attack, and she could not resist his strength as he forced the weapon far out to the side. Moving on this cue, Ralic circled around to her unguarded side.

Seeing the orc's movement and being unable to think of any way to defend herself, the succubus lost her nerve. Hoping to break away from the fight, she let go of the spear and took a quick step backward, but Ralic chased her with a brutal overhead chop that split her down the middle from the head to below the ribs. As he let out a savage roar to celebrate this vengeance for his fallen comrades, he grabbed the spider that was crawling on him, lifted it over his head, and tore it in half.

Remaining alert for any enemies moving to intercept, Kilisha followed Xiao Long back toward where Seryntas had fought the incubus captain. Since the wood elf's bow was broken, the succubus kept an arrow ready in her own bow. Of course, the demons in the area were quickly becoming less and less numerous as their force withdrew, but Kilisha knew enough to remain cautious on the battlefield.

That caution paid off. As the two passed a dense patch of foliage, Kilisha heard a sudden noise behind herself. Spinning, she saw that two incubi and a succubus had emerged and were charging in. Their equipment, though, which consisted of poorly made light plate mail and crude swords, suggested that they were nothing more than low-ranking and poorly trained recruits.

"Enemies!" Kilisha called to Xiao Long nonetheless.

She then released her arrow, which hit one of the incubi in the shoulder. The incubus reacted by screaming as he grabbed the wound. Thinking he had been mortally injured, he fell to the ground, curled up, and began howling in agony and terror.

Though the other two demons were obviously unnerved by this, they continued to advance.

Xiao Long stopped and turned. Seeing how inexperienced they were, she quickly ran towards them. When she approached the first one, she stopped short withdrew her swords, swinging them around in a deadly dance of blades.

Seryntas nodded, impressed with Ralick (I will continue to spell his name that way until you make up your mind whether it ends with a "k" or a "c") and his spider-ripping. For his own part, he himself attempted to tear the two spiders attacking him off of his body and smash them together in as testosterone-pumped a way as possible.

Seethe347

Re: Whee Title Change

The spider-smashing worked as well as the spider-ripping, leaving both of Seryntas' spiders nullified. Now it was Ralique's (it should actually be spelled with a "k") turn to be impressed.

More enemies were approaching, though, in the form of two warg-riding incubi. Both were wielding halberds, which they raised as they charged.

The incubus Xiao long had engaged couldn't keep up with her blades. It didn't take five seconds for an attack to get past his poor defence, penetrate his too-thin breastplate, and put a deep slash across the front of his torso, killing him almost instantly.

Kilisha, meanwhile, faced off with the female lilim. The enemy succubus rushed in with a straightforward stab. Kilisha knocked the attack aside with her knife, then moved in and slashed the claws of her free hand through the enemy's throat. The enemy succubus stumbled back a few steps before falling down and dying.

When the incubus Kilisha had shot finally figured out that he wasn't dying, he rose back up to his feet. But instead of coming forward to attack, he turned and ran away. Since the path was now clear, Kilisha resumed her course to find Seryntas.

Xiao Long sighed. Such a pity a kid like that had to die, but to go into battle unprepared was also stupid. Now, she thought, there were two less stupid people in the world. She shrugged and continued after Kilisha.

Seryntas spun around in time to see the two warg-riders and sidestepped to get out from between their paths, hoping to try and only have to face one, if possible.

Ralik stepped to the other side so that the warg-riders would pass between Seryntas and himself. The two riders swung their halberds down at their respective opponents as they passed. Fortunately, the wolves didn't have as much charging strength as horses would have, so it was possible to deflect the blows without being staggered. Ralik had no trouble guarding against his opponent's attack and immediately set off in pursuit as the rider passed by.

Finally reaching the place where she had seen Seryntas last, Kilisha glanced down at the two dead incubi that had fallen there. The human and the orc could be seen nearby fighting the warg riders. The warg that Ralik pursued saw the succubus and turned to charge her with the spear-point of its halberd.

Rather than try and deflect the attack, as any amateur would, Seryntas feinted and instead attempted to disarm his opponent by trying to catch the hook side of the halberd's head with his sword as it passed.

(OOC: Spleen's move sounds like a gamble. I'll give him a dice roll.

Result: Lucky 13)

The incubus fell for the feint and turned his attack into a parry. The blade hooked onto the halberd head, but the incubus' grip was was strong on both his mount and his weapon, so a contest between the demon's strength and the human's poise ensued. The result of this contest was that the halberd was jerked out of the incubus' hands, but Seryntas was pulled too far off balance to do anything more before the warg rider had already moved too far away. After riding a short distance further, the rider turned turned his mount around, drew the arming sword he kept as a side-arm, and charged Seryntas again, the warg this time leaping straight at the human at the last moment.

Xiao Long struck the other warg in one knee, eliciting a yelp from the creature. The wolf's charge became a limp, for the knee was badly cut. With the creature slowed, Ralik caught up, leapt into the air at the rider, bore him to the ground, and began mauling him with his fists <s>as a dragon circled around in the air and blasted fire down at the remains of the castle in the background</s>. Kilisha, meanwhile, moved in on the now riderless warg and slashed its side with her knife, taking its attention away from its rider's attacker.

Xiao Long turned and admired her handywork. She wondered who needed more help, Ralik, Seryntas or Kilish, and Chose Kilisha. She ran back over to the warg, jumping up onto it's back and stabbing her swords down into the warg's back.

Seryntas braced himself, preparing to take the attack straight on and try to dislodge the rider from his mount.

Seethe347

Re: Whee Title Change

The warg's jaws closed over Seryntas' shoulder and its claws raked his torso, but the human was not knocked down and his mythril armor was not pierced. As the wolf didn't go back down on its front paws but instead continued scratching with them unsuccessfully, the rider fell off.

Xiao Long's swords dug through the other warg's back and into a few of the organs of its upper torso. The creature's legs buckled underneath it and it fell. Kilisha then cut its throat with her knife.

The armor of the warg riders was light so as not to slow their mounts, but this meant that the incubus being pummeled by Ralik had no defense against the force of the strong orc's blows. It didn't take very many of these strikes to render the demon unconscious. Ralik then pulled the demon's helmet off and dealt several more blows until, after a particularly hard and vicious one, he heard the crunch of a skull being crushed.

Xiao Long got up of the bloody warg and looked about for some other furry foud legged beastie to kill. Thankfully, Seryntas wasn't very far away. She ran over and put her leg out to trip the warg, which shouldn't be hard considering it's position over Seryntas.

It may have taken the warg only a second to roll back onto its feet, but it took Xiao Long only a second to slash at the warg's face, hoping to distract it long enough for the big guy behind her to rip its head off. Or put his sword through the thing's side. Or some other act of violence becoming of a large man in armor.

And Seryntas did, in fact, enact an act of violence, one well-befitting an armored man of considerable size. His sword came sweeping down, aimed for the base of the creature's neck.

The warg's face was cut by Xiao Long's blade, successfully bringing to creature's attention to the elf. Then Seryntas' blade came down and cut into the back of the wolf's neck, through its spinal cord. The creature went down immediately.

Meanwhile, the incubus that had ridden it had gotten up. Placing too much value on his life to take on two skilled opponents at once, he turned to run. And his stomach turned right into Kilisha's incoming dagger. The succubus quickly followed the stab with a hard kick to knock the evil demon down, leaving it vulnerable to whoever wanted to finish it off.

Kilisha looked around at the battlefield, trying to decide what to suggest. The action was now quickly moving in the direction of the enemy castle, with only a few stragglers from either side remaining in the immediate area. Other than Kilisha, the only demons that remained were either in the process of surrendering, running away, or being killed.

"I guess... we should head... for the castle," Kilisha said.

"Agree... with succubus," came Ralik's voice as the orc approached, having finished pulverizing the head of the incubus he had attacked. "We... should... follow army."

"Alright, then I guess we're off to pay the friendly castle folk a visit." Xiao Long smiled and began to walk off towards the castle. As she went, the picked up some cloth from the floor and wiped her blades clean. She went to check on her bow, only to realize it had broken. She sighed. It was a good bow, too. Now, she really didn't have much use for her arrows either, but she kept them anyways, keeping an eye out on the floor for any bows that she could use.

In the wake of the battle were strewn with the remains of the departed. A few bows could be found on the ground near their fallen owners. Many of them were broken and those that remained intact were mostly makeshift bows of the orcs or standard-issue low-quality bows of the demons.

However, if Xiao Long were to look up into the branches of one tree they passed, she might have seen an incubus archer hiding there. He didn't look like he was planning on firing at anybody, though. In truth, he was just hoping to remain out of sight until the fighters below had moved far enough away for him to slip down and flee the battlefield unnoticed. However, he did have a decent-looking shortbow in his hands.

Xiao Long walked along looking about, but really didn't desire any of the crude bows that had been haphazardly strewn on the ground. She didn't even think to look up into the trees above her, which may not have been the safest thing. She continued on her way, happily unaware of the archer in the tree.

Re: The Next Crisis

The black obsidian walls of the castle loomed up before them. By now, the portcullis had fallen and the gate had closed, leaving a number of the demons who had tried to retreat trapped outside. These demons had turned about to give battle again. Meanwhile, the top of the wall was now lined with archers and arrows rained down from the sky.

The orcs had moved into a wedge formation to pierce through the now disorganized group of demons outside the gate in order to reach the iron door. In the midst of the wedge moved an extremely large ram made of stone and capped by a protective steel roof. The device must have raised thousands of pounds, but the orcs who manned it were proving a testament to the physical strenght of their race.

The incubus hiding in the tree as the orc captain and the mercenaries passed below began to lose his nerve. He had frozen up, not even breathing for fear of being spotted. Then, not possessing the fortitude to accept the risk of a random glance in his direction, he let go of his bow, dropped to the ground, and threw himself to his face.

"Don't kill me!" he blurted out to the group. "I know where the secret escape route of the castle is! If you don't kill me, I'll lead you to it!"

Xiao Long blinked twice when the incubus fell to the floor in front of her, than grabbed up the bow on the floor, completely ignoring the grovelling demon. The craftsmanship of the bow was decent, and she found it somewhat to her liking, so she kept it.

Seryntas readied his sword as soon as the demon fell, but relaxed his posture when it began to grovel, though he still kept his sword out to kill if need be. He kicked the prone creature with one mailed boot, not hard enough to injure, but hard enough to show that he meant business. "Show us."

Despite the benefit that knowing the location of the castle's escape route would bring, Ralik looked more angry than pleased at the demon's offer. With more force than was probably necessary, he grabbed the demon and hauled it to its feet.

"Move... coward!" he roared.

"A-alright," the incubus stuttered. "It's t-this way."

With the orc's sword against its back, the incubus began walking. He led the group through the trees for some distance until the castle was some ways away. Finally, he came to a stop.

"It's under those bushes," he said, pointing to a patch of thick shrubbery at the base of a large tree.

Kilisha moved forward and pushed through the bushes. Behind them, she found a large hole under the tree.

"Does... anyone have a... torch?" she called back.

When there wasn't any positive response, Kilisha re-emerged from the hole.

"Maybe a... branch will do," she said.

Ralik immediately broke part of a low-hanging branch off of the tree. Without asking permission, he then tore part of the captive incubus' shirt off and wrapped it around the end of the branch. Next, he produced two pieces of flint, struck them together until the produced a spark, and ignited the cloth.

After receiving the makeshift torch from the orc, Kilisha returned to the hole and looked in. A few yards in, she could see the beginning of a stone structure.

"It dooks like... something is down here," she reported.

At that, Ralik tore off a few more branches and ripped the incubus' shirt to pieces to create more torches. Afterwards, he followed the succubus into the tunnel.
