Miiam shook his head. There is no time constraint...We have after all been waiting thousands of years. One more day or so is little.

Looking up above them, Cori peered at the trees and shook his head, this situation very clear to him already. "It's simple. We just need to find a tree long enough, cut it down, and get it to the top of a high bank. Then we can slide it across the river. Of course....that will take a lot of power. How strong is everybody? And have we got any rope?"

Rope! How could Kilra have forgotten it!? Every adventurer needs rope, she told herself, eyes directing themselves downwards, her head shaking in reply to Corantir's question.

Shada brightened a bit. Here she and her abilities might be of some use.

"I myself am not very strong. However, I could make a golem to help us out if you like."

"Mmm? A golem you say. That may be useful." He looked around.

"I'd suppose there are plenty of rocks with which to build a good golem, so hey, why not?"

Kilra cocked her head to the side slightly.

"Golem? That's a big rock...thing...right?"

RedFox eventually woke up from his daze, thinking about everything but the task at hand, as he always does. He looked at Shada and then D. "I agree. A golem is a great idea, provided that it's strong enough to resist the currents, that is. Oh... and aye." He was never really keen on getting his hands dirty.

"Golem, eh?" He grinned "That will work, indeed. We merely need him to get the tree trunk into position. He can cut it if he wants also, but I'm sure we ourselves can do that. Shall we get to work?"

She nodded once to the warlock, then turned her attention to the surrounding area, searching for a suitable tree.

"Do we have any axes?"

"Please, allow me...tools would indeed work here, however we might as well not waste the effort." He then drew his pennywhistle from under his mantle and brought it up. "Just give me a target."

Kilra, wondering just what in the world Corantir was going to do with a pennywhistle, pointed at a suitably large tree.

Having graduated with honors from a magic school, Corantir knew a thing or two about the inner workings of magic energy. And because of this, it allowed him to utilize music to focus his magic energies. Bringing the pennywhistle to his mouth, he began to play a tune reminiscent of folk music from the desert lands. Within brief moments, a moderate sized void of heat and fire formed next to him. The song then seemed to become more vivid and active, and likewise, the flame compacted itself and formed what looked like a serpent of fire.

It's aim, simply, was the large tree in front of him. Surging toward the base of the trunk, it's breadth was thin, as if it was intended to slice right through, or at least weaken the base.

The fire spell collided with the tree searing a large chunk from it. The tree gave an ominous moan before cracking and falling over the cliff. The rushing waters hungily swept upon the the tree and carried it down the stream.

They watched in anticipation as the tree knocked against a rock jutting from the bed. The watched if for a while as it wobbled slightly against the push of the water but it held is position. It's upper most branches reached the other bank but still it would take extreme caution to traverse the Corantir-made bridge.

Across the river, they would have to climb the 20 foot rise before they could continue their journey.

Shada blinked as she saw this. She hadn't quite expected things to be that easy.

"Well... there's luck for ya. Guess we won't need my golem?"

Whistling, Kilra stared at the newly formed bridge, her face displaying no small deal of awe.

"Never knew that music could be so powerful."

"Well, there was that one time with Enlil and the time travel...but it wasn't as flashy as that!

"Yeah, yeah I'm fi.." she began, just as her foot slipped on the bark, almost sending her flying into the river. Fortunately, agility was one of her stronger points, and she regained her balance.

Chuckling nervously she followed D, slowly, over the bridge.

Utilizing his trident as a balance bar, he crossed steadily and swiftly, nodding at the fortune his spell was granted. He knew it was not his skill or knowledge that sent the trunk over the river, and he was almost in fear of asking fate too many favors (OOC Attn: GM!). However, this was a journey, and it was customary never to look back. And that he did not. Reaching the other side, he prepared to climb. "Hmm...fire spells are easy. Carrying a trident up a cliff is the hard part."

She started across, accustomed to balancing with her equipment, she might appear to be leaning over to one side a bit too much, but in fact would be just fine... provided she didn't slip. The idea of a swim was not appealing at the moment...

She walked along slowly, making sure each foot step was one that had traction before putting weight on it.

As Shada started to cross the tree roll and creaked. He footing wasn't sure enough to catch and she tumbled off into the cold river. The current carried her over the stones and falls until she was struck against a larger rock that held her in place 30 yards from the others.

"Blast! Shada." Looking around quickly for some way to get to her, he rushed along the river bank toward her. Reaching out so far to her was impossible, and logic told him if he jumped in, he would be able to recover himself. "That rope would be a convenient thing right about now!"

Kilra spun around as Corantir cried out, hey eyes widening in horror as she saw what had happened.

WHY didn't I bring any rope?!

There was only one thing she could do, in her mind. She shed her sword belt, discarded her cloak, and began to remove her leather armour. She was going in after Shada.

Unread postby Besyanteo » Wed Feb 05, 2003 12:54 pm

Shada felt the ground leave her, and had time to scream in surprise before she fell into the water. A moment later, she was hanging onto a rock for dear life.

To say she was displeased would have been an understatement. She tried to feel as best she could for ground underneath her. If it was there, she could use her Aquatic Motion, and simply walk to shore. If not, it would be the same as falling into a canyon...

She tried to send a telepathic message to Corantir, whom everyone seemed to listen to, sayying "Wait, I might be able to do this on my own... No use getting two people caught in that gods damned river."

She cursed under her breath several times, sincerely hoping to find footing.

"Shit." D glared at Shada, not because he was angry at her, but rather at his luck.

"WAIT! We'll help you!" D said, before realizing that he didn't know how. Seeing Kilra undress ready to jump, D decided that he'd rather do it himself. Besides, he wanted something interesting to happen, there he was. Pulling his cloak and T-shirt off easily, D yelled

"Hold on!"

RedFox was ahead of them... which is ironic cos he had fallen behind. He placed his paw on the hilt of his Wakizashi "Wait a sec, D! No need to take more risks!" He pulled out the sword, sliced off a branch from the tree, and ran along the bank to where Shada was, holding out the thick branch to her. "Grab on!"

Ebil yes? Yes.

Unread postby Nekogami » Wed Feb 05, 2003 4:43 pm

The river at it's midpoint was 10 feet deep, hence why the current was so harsh. Shada's feet simply thrashed against nothing but water.

Red's branch of aid was simply to short as the river was about 14 yards wide.

[edit: Shada is 7 yards from either bank. So the current situation is:
The rock is about 13 feet from the bed of the river up. So 3 feet of it is above water. Beneath the bank who knows... The it's also about 3 feet wide so she can probably get her arms around it. It's point up top, like a crag and covered in moss.
Thus Shada is clinging to a rock in the middle of Odin's Trail 30 yards (90 feet) from the tree-bridge and 20 feet from both banks.]

She noted Kilra and D stripping on the shore.

IM: Damn them, that's suicide!

She sent first Kilra, and then D this message in turn. "Stop! Think. Even if you can swim over here, how can you carry me back with all these things on me? I can't move an arm to get rid of them. And even without them you can't beat the current one-armed."

With that, she went silent, and concentrated. She'd been wrong about her golem. She would need it after all. She focused her energy on building one...

The flow of the river seemed slow for a moment and there was a terrible silence for just a second. Then the river came alive.....

The rushing waters swirled before Shada and spiked into the air twenty feet up and stayed. The swirled into a the shape of a nymph in a flowing dress. She wore river pebbles on her neck and wrists. The her hair flowed into her dress, her dress then to the river.

She turned to the party and smiled at them. Miiam bowed his head. The nymph then looked at Shada as if she waited commanding.

The nymph nodded and picked Shada up as if she were a child and cradled her. The waters were not angry around the water spirit though they raged everywhere else.

She walked upon the shore and gently set Shada down. The nymph stayed kneeling, as if waiting a second command.
