Curse of the Necromancer (Freestyle RP)

Unread postby Kelne » Mon Jul 29, 2002 11:10 pm

The chamber lay beneath the earth, away from the prying eyes and petty cares of mankind.
A dim glow illuminated the chamber.
Massive stone pillars held the roof up, and at the base of each stood an armoured warrior.
Two dim red glows could be seen deep within the visor of each.

But it was to the throne in the room's centre that any eyes would be drawn.
A drow sat there, enthroned in the rotting trappings of splendour.

Closer examination would have revealed a hollow face, haunted eyes, and a distinct lack of breathing.
Of course, the gaping hole in his chest would have been a clue, too...

The necromancer brooded.
Never, in all his existence had he come so close to destruction.
Only sheer willpower animated his body now, after that accursed dragoon's lance had torn out his heart.

Those who had trapped him in the first place had been dealt with, but the others haunted him.

The Dragoon.
The Mage.
The Swordsman.

They had set upon him while he was weak, and he had barely escaped with his 'life'.

Well, now he had recovered his strength, or at least as much as he was going to.

The time had come to deal with them once and for all.
Some said that revenge was a dish best served cold, and his soul had been like ice for centuries now.

A tendril of will, and a wraith materialised before him.
His will poured into the vessel.
Now, he would see with its eyes, focus his power through its incorporeal form.

The wraith drifted silently through a wall, and was gone.

Nobody opposed him and lived.

((Alrighty then, it begins. End, Kyra, and Xero are the Necromancer's targets, and there may be space for other characters as well.))

Short post to introduce End..

Unread postby Endesu » Tue Jul 30, 2002 2:27 am

End, naturally, was walking along blissfully through Doma, oblivious of anything that could POSSIBLY endanger him. Cept for the Doman Guards. They didn't seem to like the pickpocketing he attempted daily.. even if he did offer them a cut. Damn guards..

Kyra walked slowly through the town of Doma, a small book held under her arms, a smile on her face, "Wow...I can't believe Daniel actually found the original Secret of Gaera novel! He so sweet!" she giggled a little, quickening her pace slightly as she head for the castle, "I can't wait to read it..." ^_^

Xero lied on a storetop, with the permission of the owner of course. He had done work for him in the past, and such a simple request was no problem in part of the repayment. He lifted his gloves hands and rested them behind his head, drawing up a knee a bit and staring blankly into the sky, reflecting upon his travels across the land, something Xero did a lot, probably too much. Afterall, most people probably don't make it a note to think about almost dying a few times over.

"......Such a Nice day, like nothing could ruin it..."

He closed his eyes and drew in a deep breath, moving his right leg and smiling with the sound of his sword.

"...Nice day indeed."

There are many guards in the city...

Unread postby Kelne » Tue Jul 30, 2002 9:57 pm

"Excuse me, sir."
The guard looked around, and found himself confronted by a dignified figure in expensive robes. A flowing beard stretched almost to his waist.
"Can I help you, old man?"
"Why, yes."
The old man's hand plunged into the guard's chest, and he felt icy fingers wrap around his heart and squeeze.
The last thing he saw were empty eyes gazing at him pitilessly.

A brief whispered chant, and the body arrested its fall.
Dull eyes, devoid of the spark of life which had occupied them earlier, stared blankly into space.
His little band was coming together quite nicely.
There were, after all, many guards to choose from.
Why dig up bodies when you could make your own?

A brief scan of the astral plane showed him the location of his foes. Still no sign that they suspected anything.
Why would they?
In fact...
The dragoon was quite close.

Five-to-one odds should be sufficient.
A smile split the old man's face that would have sent a chill down the spine of any who saw it.

-------------

Ambling along the street, End found his path blocked by a squad of guards.
"You're going to have to come with us, sir."

"... erm, nope, sorry, can't do that." End grinned sheepishly. "Here, forget what you saw today." End threw about 500 Doman Coins to the ground before turning in the opposite direction and running into the crowd. "Sorry, guys, but I have no time for arrests today."

Ignoring the scattered coins, the guards gave chase.
He wouldn't get far, the necromancer decided.
Even if the local law enforcement didn't run him down, he couldn't conceal himself.

Let him wear himself out running.
'Killed while resisting arrest' had a nice ring to it.

The guards shouldered their way through the crowd, following the path End had taken.

End looked back. The guards were STILL trailing him, so obviously he had to lose them a bit better then he was doing. Smirking, he crouched for a second and Jumped, leaping to the roof of a nearby building. From there, he began bounding from rooftop to rooftop, quickly distancing himself from the guards.

As Kyra was making her way towards the castle, her attention was drawn by a curious spectacle.

A small figure could be seen jumping from rooftop to rooftop, pursued by a group of guards.
The guards were shouldering their way through anyone in their way, leaving a trail of confusion and acrimony in their wake.

Not so unusual in and of itself, but the guards...
Something didn't feel right about them.
And behind them...
There was something awfully familiar about that old man.

------------

It had taken Tronash quite some time to track down the lodgings of End Reshiki.
Now, he waited.
He didn't know whether to hope he was in time or not.
Abandoning these people to their fate had certain attractions.
Still, he had made his decision.
He would take the lesser of two evils.

"What....is going on??" Kyra stared up at the scene, wide eyed. "Who is that man....why are....it's that dragoon! I remember him!"

She extended a hand, point a palm at one of the chasing guards, "HOLD!" The spell of paralysis shot out at the guard.

End quickly made his way to a random Temple, smashing down through its roof. As the guards converged on the Temple, a tall priest of some note slowly made his way out of the temple. His grandiose robe flowed around his oddly shaped ankles as he attempted to walk forward.

(And if you can't guess who THIS is, well..)

The guard slowed for a second, then turned towards Kyra.
The hold spell didn't seem to have worked. It was as if someone was acting to disrupt her efforts.

Two of the guards made their way towards her, weapons drawn.

The other three were fooled by End's disguise, but the necromancer was not, and quickly urged them towards him.

By now, all of the guards had their weapons out, any pretense of peaceful intent gone.

End could tell that his game was up, and so he leapt back onto the roof of the Temple, his robe trailing behind him, and he continued to bound from rooftop to rooftop, hoping to find his hiding place in time. Something was wrong here.. the guards were never intelligent enough to actually try and catch him..

Battle.

Unread postby Kelne » Sun Aug 04, 2002 3:44 am

((Sorry for the delay, I've been a little busy lately.))

"Lads, are you sure that's called for?"
The guards advancing on Kyra had their path blocked by another.
"I don't know what you think she did, but white mages are sworn to peace, justice -"
He barely managed to leap backwards in time to avoid the swing of an axe.
"What is wrong with you?!"
There was no response beyond the guards advancing with raised weapons.

By now, most people had given the scene a wide berth, leaving a wide empty area around the combatants.

((initiative as follows:
Zombie guard 1
guard
zombie guard 2
Kyra
zombie guard 3))

A sharp blow from one of the beligerent guards sent the interloper sprawling across the cobbles, stunned.
The others continued their advance, focused only on Kyra.
However, something seemed to be delaying the one which had landed the blow.

A chilling word emerged from its lips as it knelt down beside the fallen guard, "Braaaaaiiiinsss..."

Meanwhile, another had reached Kyra.
The white mage danced sideways to avoid a descending axe blow.

((Kyra's turn.))

------------

No matter what End did, he couldn't seem to shake the guards. They just came on at their relentless pace, seemingly untiring.

"End Reshiki!" a voice boomed up to him from the street below.
The source seemed to be a cloaked mage.
As the two guards passed him, he sent a fireball hurtling into one of them, although this had no appreciable effect.

The guards stopped and turned to face him.

-------------

An increasing commotion filled the streets below Xero.
Angry shouts echoed upwards, disrupting his rest.
Perhaps he should investigate...

Xero opened his eyes slowly, staring up at the sky and yawning, as if preparing to eat his own words. Pulling his hands from behind his head and dusting off imaginary lint from his Leather armor, Xero slowly stood up, careful not to fall off the roof.

Taking a flying leap to the edge of the shop, hitting the rim of it rather lightly and quietly, Xero looked down into the street, hoping to see something that he wouldn't have to be involved in...Meaning, It was just an arguement between townspeople.

(This isn't Philsystem right? Can't be...)

Kyra emitted a loud shrill scream and backed away from her pursuers, lifting her guard staff up in front of her, "Get away from me!!! Get away!"

Why is it always ME that gets attacked by undead things??? Why Ishtar why?? Kyra shook her head, snapping herself out of her thoughts before she started to remenisce about her past. Now wasn't a really good time to do that anyways. She tilted her staff back a bit before releasing a mighty swing (backed by Choark's teachings) upon the head of one of the zombie guards.

End stopped short, turning to the mage below.

Watching the unsucessful attack on the guards inspired End to make an attack as the two guard-like guards were distracted...

Letting out a battle cry consisting of mainly "KUPO!", he dove down upon one of the guard's heads, swinging his lance downward.

Unfortunately, the scene below did not put Xero in mind of a minor altercation.
Even as he watched, the white mage delivered a stunning blow to one of her attackers, sending him sprawling to the cobbles. Incredibly, he still seemed conscious, and was staggering back to his feet within seconds.
The other attacker took advantage of her momentary off-balance position, and inflicted a bloody gash on her leg, knocking her down.

Not good.

The zombie was faced with a dilemna.
How to split open its prey's head and feast on the juicy brains within?
Pointy objects open heads...

The guard peered upwards through blurred eyes.
There was something really wrong with the man looming over him - He barely managed to roll aside in time to avoid the descending sword blade.
He weakly tried to stab at his attacker with his knife, and nearly lost his hand for his trouble.
He continued rolling, trying frantically to gather his scattered wits.

Its head a bloody ruin, the zombie approached Kyra once more, swinging its axe downwards with deadly force. Kyra managed to parry the blow with her staff, sending spikes of pain flaring through her arms as the axe's descent was halted just above her throat.

((Revised initiative:
Zombie guard 1
guard
zombie guard 2
Xero (should he wish to become involved)
Kyra
zombie guard 3

Xero's turn))

------------

End's strike caught the guard in the back, lance stabbing through armour and inflicting a substantial wound.
Amazingly, the guard remained standing.

((initiative:
Mage
zombie guard 4
End
zombie guard 5))

Drawing in more power, the mage unleashed another fireball at his original, still smouldering, target. This strike was somewhat more successful, burning deeply into the guard's chest. Again, the wound was shrugged off, without even a cry of pain.
Advancing through the flames, he struck at the mage, inflicting a chest wound.

((End's turn))

Xero watched as the second zombie guard attacked Kyra and drew his sword from his sheath, a loud metal shriek erupting from the metalic blade. He shook his head and sighed, shruging inwardly to himself a bit.

What is with that girl and always running into undead trouble...

The swordsman quickly put that thought away though, deciding it best to aid his mage friend in her time of need. He leapt off the rooftop of the store and pointed the tip of his sword at the head of the Zombie guard mentioned earlier, plunging towards the ground, and towards the object of his sword's blade.

End's strike caved in the guard's skull.
It gave a forlorn whisper of "Braiinss" before it collapsed.

Snarling, the mage let loose yet another fireball, this one fizzling out a short distance from its target.

A sharp crack could be heard as the guard's sword hacked into the mage's arm. Pulling it loose, he readied for another blow.

((End's turn))

-----------

Xero's sword plunged into the guard's back, emerging from the chest. Amazingly, it continued to hack at Kyra, but these strikes were ineffectual.
Gradually, the animated corpse collapsed.

((Kyra's turn))

Kyra whimpered, her arms were growing tired from fending off all the axe strikes. I can't keep this up!! She yelped suddenly as she saw the sword emerge from the zombie's chest, quickly backing out of her agressor's striking range to view her all too familiar swordsman friend.

"XERO!!!" Kyra backed off and allowed her friend to kill her attacker, just when she noticed another zombie trying to murder a nearby guard. She spread a palm outwards at the monster, chanting softly. " Ishtar shine forth and deliver your judgement....BEAM! " A white blast erupted from her palm at the zombie.

((Shouldn't be a major problem, Geoc. Just put a brief summary of your character, and I'll see if I can create an opening.))

End's lance penetrated the zombie's chest effortlessly, driving into the creature's heart.
Like a puppet bereft of its strings, the zombie collapsed.

End had no time to celebrate his victory, as a hand plunged deep into his own chest, closing icy fingers about his heart.

The triumphant grin of the old man before him filled End's dimming vision.

Then a blast of lightning slammed the old man away, sending him tumbling down the street.

As he gasped for breath, End could see the mage, arm dangling limply at his side, robes torn, and blood dripping from numerous cuts.

He was trembling with rage.

Another bolt leapt from his fingertips, hammering through a hastily erected barrier.
"You will pay for your interference with your life!" the old man screamed.
"You first," the mage snarled, intensifying the barrage.
Still shouting curses, the old man countered with a spear of ice, which pierced the mage's torso.
Unrelenting, the mage kept the lightning pouring from his fingertips, tearing great holes in the old man.
"You'll all pay," the old man whispered as he was torn apart, fragments scatteringto the winds.

With that, the mage collapsed to the ground, unconscious.

--------------

The holy energy tore into the zombie, driving it backwards.
By the time it had recovered, the guard had regained both his feet and his weapon.
By now, the zombie was not a pretty sight. Its flesh had been seared by the beam, and the hair had been burned off entirely.
Its axe stroke was parried by the guard, who countered and neatly removed its head, ending its quest for brains forever.

The lone remaining zombie, thus far undamaged, and too stupid to know when it was beaten, struck at the target it had been assigned, heedless of all else. Kyra barely managed to interpose her staff, staggering backwards as the zombie set itself up for another strike.

((Xero's turn))

End gasped slightly, the pain penetrating deep into his chest. He whined slightly, getting up into a sitting position.. he had suffered worse before.. he had survived freaking Mu, for Bahamut's sake.. but.. damn, it hurt.. he could barely move..

As he looked over to the Mage he coughed up a fresh spurt of blood. ".. I wonder who... he is.." Blood trailed a bit more from his mouth as he lamented on this, his body quivering in pain. "... whatever happens.. gotta.. find.. healing.." As he said this, he gripped the wound in his chest.. heavy bleeding there, too..

.. with that thought, he collapsed again.. he was suddenly very tired..

"Hello Kyra! Seems you run into some trouble again!"

Xero drew his sword up and lunged forward at the single remaining zombie, slamming his heel into the ground suddenly, twirling around in an impressive blur of cold silver steel, tan leather armor, and bright vibrant red hair. After a few seconds, he slammed his other foot down, the momentum of the spin forcing his blade expertly at the neck of the zombie, hoping for a nice clean slice and the rolling of heads.

Defron is his name. He is an assassin for hire. His eyes are neon green and what are supposed to be the whites of his eyes are red. He wears glasses so he doesn't spook people. He follows a gentlemen’s code. He won't hurt a women or a child. He has a tattoo on his neck of a XIII. He gives bad luck to his target. He leaves them dead and with a piece of Bamboo paper with XIII written on it.

[OOCOOC: I got the whole 13 and bad luck thing from "Black Cat" it's a Manga. *Manga = comic book.]

His main weapons are sharukens laced with lye. [OOCOOC: If you've seen Fight Club you'll know what this does. If you haven't you should see it it's a good movie.] He is also very skilled in Karate. "This one's alive!"
The words filtered dimly through to End, muffled by the darkness in which he lay.
A different voice spoke now, in tones of authority, "Jes, run down to the temple of Ishtar and fetch a white mage."
"Sir, the palace is closer."
"Good thinking, Ger. You check there. Hurry, both of you."
A faint echo of running footsteps now.
"We need to know what happened here."

------------

Xero's sword sliced cleanly through the zombie's neck, ending its unholy existence.
It had been easy with the creature's attention on Kyra.
It had even had its back turned to him, a true testament to its stupidity.

Silence reigned in the street for several seconds.

It was broken by the guard.
"Miss? They were after you. Do you know why?"

Interview

Unread postby Kelne » Wed Aug 07, 2002 6:56 am

((Right then, that ought to do for Defron's entrance.))

Defron's prospective employer was a small, nervous-looking man. Throughout their talk, he had been glancing about the room as if afraid the Doman Guard or the King himself would descend and drag him off to the castle dungeons.

"You have to kill him," he was saying desperately, "Otherwise he'll never stop until I'm dead. Or worse..." Another theatrical shudder, "I don't want to be his undead slave for eternity."

The conversation had contained a lot of these terrified entreaties.
Still, the pay was good.
Now, if he could just get him to tell where this necromancer might be located...

Defron sat in a chair looking at the old man. Defron had taken jobs but no employer to date had been this this, this... weird. Most people wanted a relative, or a husband who cheated. A job was a job and he didn't pass up jobs, especially when he was hungry. Defron hadn't eaten descent food for a couple of days.

"Sir, would you happen to know where this Necromancer is."

"No," the old man said right before he started to get frantic again, "he could be watching us right now. AH, you must get him before..." at that moment the old man got up and ran out the door.

"I didn't know an old man could run that fast. I wonder what the Necromancer is planning. Oh well he'll be dead before it happens."

Defron got up and walked out into the streets, where he noticed a crowd had gathered. He walked over to see what had happened. That's when he spotted the undead lying ... ... dead.

"Those are obviously zombies. A Necromancer is behind all of this. I have no other leads; I'll have look into this one. The zombies seemed to go after those two," Defron thought as he looked at Xero, and Krya, "hmm... another person is on the ground. He looks injured, badly injured."

Defron squeezed through the crowd so he could get to Xero and Kyra. He wondered if they had any information on the Necromancer that had indirectly attacked them. When Defron got to the front he saw Kyra, tears seemed to be swelling in her eyes. Defron did a fast walk over to her. Some might've called it a skip. It was more of a two-step run though.

"Miss, is anything wrong? Why were those things attacking you?" Defron said with an affectionate hand on her shoulder.

Unread postby Endesu » Wed Aug 07, 2002 9:05 pm

End coughed up a bit more blood and forced his vision to clear, looking up above him in an attempt to see who was there now..

Growling against the bleeding pain inside him, he sat himself up again as his body literally screamed in even MORE pain. Not that this was the smartest thing to do, but he had to see who was with him now..

".. *cough* .. hi?"

((try to avoid controlling the NPCs. That one would have given Defron a fair bit of information. As things stand, he doesn't even know which necromancer he's after.
At the moment, it looks like he'll be going after Rhone.
Not that Kyra will be complaining about that...))

The world seemed blurred to End, but he could make out a guard leaning over him.
Fortunately, this one didn't seem to be trying to bash his head in with an axe.
"Easy there, sir," he said, gently pressing End back to the ground, "I've sent a couple o' th' lads t' fetch a white mage. We'll 'ave you an' yer friend right as rain in no time. Can y' tell us what happened?"

--------------

The guard contemplated this information.
"Any idea where we might find this Rhone? The higher-ups'll want a few words with him about turning the Doman Guard into zombies unless I miss my guess." The guard's tone suggested that in addition to these 'words', a certain amount of tearing-limb-from-limb would be involved.

Before Kyra could answer, another guard came running up.
"Miss Kyra! You gotta come quick! Someone's been murdering guards and -"
The scene before him finally registered on the young guard. Bodies lay strewn about the street.
"Oh no! Is the whole city like this?"

.. explanations.

Unread postby Endesu » Wed Aug 07, 2002 10:47 pm

".. well, um.. I'm better then I might look, really.. gimme a few seconds and I'll be dancing a circle around you, heheh.. *cough, more blood* .. uh.. guards attacking.. zombie guards.. they were attackin' this mage.. I defended him.. an' then.. this old guy appears and nearly rips out my heart..

IM: .. good thing he didn't.. after finding out about that 'self-destruct' o' sorts I got, dying in a heavily populated city wouldn't be a very good idea..

... and then the Mage attacked him and he went away.."

Kyra glomped Xero, shivering, "But he said he was going to come back for me...I don't want him to come back for me! I want him to leave me alone...EEEEEK!" She nearly jumped a foot in the air as the stranger put a hand on her shoulder, skittering back to stand beside Xero, "Who are you?!"

Defron looked at Kyra as she jumped back in fear.

"Miss I mean you no harm. I am Defron I have been hired by someone to kill a Necromancer, presumably the one who caused all of this. I was wondering if you knew anything about him. I heard you say something about Rhone? Is he the one responsible?"

"Constable, I very much doubt that the entirety of the Doman Guard have been turned into zombies. You will note that there has been a distinct lack of screaming. Now, report."

"Yes, sergeant," the new arrival said sheepishly.
"We came across four bodies during the course of our patrol. Upon inspection, two were dead Doman Guards. A Drow mage is severely injured, but alive, and a Moogle dragoon is apparently uninjured but unconscious. I was sent to find a white mage so we could heal them."

-----------

"Here, drink this."
End did so, and experienced an abrupt lessening of the pain.
There was still a dull ache in his chest, but it was fading.
The man who had spoken looked at him appraisingly for a moment, then moved on to his next patient.
A sharp intake of breath could be heard, followed by a sigh of relief.

"And what can you tell us?" the guard sergeant was saying.
"I have no time to explain myself to the likes of you," The mage snapped angrily.
"If you don't, you can spend some time in the cells."
"I know who the targets of these killings were. As long as they remain in the city, the instigator will continue using your people as pawns in his schemes for revenge..."
