Daniel finds himself torn on action to take, as the summoned wolf pounces on the nekojin mage.

A quick glance around tells him that all their foes are incapacitated in some form. The on Daniel fought a moment ago still appears to be sleeping. One is making a break for it from the woman he healed, apparently intent on leaving the battle. The other mage nearby appears frozen in place, as if by magical means. The only one who could still act is the nekojin, though he is pinned down at the moment.

He could assume the wolf will take care of the nekojin, and try to get over to Kobakk. But what if the mage breaks free, and he has his back turned? He can't risk taking another spell like that to the back, at least not now.

So he approaches next to the wolf, aiming the pointed end of his halberd to the nekojin's throat.

"I normally despise ending another person's life... but I can live with it when that person tries to kill me." Daniel says, looking at the nekojin with stern eyes, "So if you'd like to continue living today, I'd suggest giving up."

A moment passes between Dan and the Nekojin, as they stare at one another, sizing one another up. It seems that Dan's quarry can't deny the hopelessness of the situation, as he closes his eyes and says.

"I surrender."

The carnage was over, and Neb strode towards her companions, trying to move as quickly as she could considering her injuries. "We don't have much time left," she said firmly. "There's still the other mage. The spell's going to wear off any time now, so we need to restrain her while we have the chance."

Daniel looks toward Neb briefly and nods, then looks back to the Nekojin while speaking.

"We need to secure this gentlemen as well. Do you have any rope with you?"

With matters tentatively in hand, Leothe emerged from behind his cover and set about tipping a potion down Kobakk's throat. Gently, mind you. He then stepped back a bit, in case the orc was still feeling a little cranky. After that display earlier, he wasn't taking any chances.

The Nekonian man simply growls out "No."

Kobakk, fed a potion by Leothe, awakes groggily, ashing all over. His wounds have closed thanks to the potion, but he still feels like he's been trampled by a team of horses.

(Kobakk is at 37/82 HP)

Once the potion finished its work, Kobakk coughed loudly, immediately sitting up. "Is the battle won?" he said, looking about wildly. "Is my... are our companions safe?"

He looked to their wagons, and saw the Doman monarch wave. He breathed a sigh of relief, and looked to the man who brought him back to consciousness.

"So... what was that all about?"

I hate protection missions.

It was the only thought on Myrnal's mind as she sat sharpening a blade, waiting for the fight to come to them. The stone ran down the smooth, hair-thin edge and Myrnal wondered how--considering she was here to assist Daniel--she had ended up being the last line of defense for the king of Doma.

BullSHIT I am. I've seen him fight. We should be out there. This is so stupid. I hate protection missions.

While she was at it, Myrnal cursed Daniel for coming up with such a sensible plan in such an idiotic situation. If she'd left to go do what she wanted, what she was trained to do... something could have happened to Charles and it would have been her fault. She wasn't particularly attached to him as an individual, but she could acknowledge that the death of the king would not be a good thing. Myrnal was the second woman in her family to make such a decision.

I hate protection missions.

Still, Myrnal had no one to blame but herself. She'd intermittently peek out to ensure that the fight was still going in Daniel's favor. Fortunately she didn't have to really make a choice between her obligations to Dan and her agreement with him. When Charles peeked out to wave to their allies, Myrnal slipped her dagger back onto her belt and cursed under her breath. "That's it. I'm going. Come with me if you need babysitting."

With long, purposeful strides and a deep frown she headed toward the people Dan had apparently decided were their allies. She walked down the middle of the road so as to avoid spooking these people by the appearance of yet another well-armed stranger. "What the hell happened here?"

I hate being protected.

Snickering at Myrnal's quip, he casually followed her off the wagon, though in a desire to better understand the situation. It was aggravating, though. At his core, he was a warrior. Whether it was on the battlefield or in the political forum, he loved to engage in combat. But he was aware of his importance to his nation, and to this mission, and he could not let himself see harm. It was like binding his own hands.

But, he had to remember what the greater picture was, and that he could do far more good alive than dead. His own desire to be thrown into lethal situations had to be set aside for the time being.

He turned around, and called to Trevor. "It's safe now! Come on out!"

"I wish I knew," Leothe said in response to Kobakk's question, "These people certainly don't seem like your run-of-the-mill bandits to me. But as to their motives in attacking us, well, you'd have to ask them."

With that said, he headed off to secure some rope. More people seemed to be arriving on the scene, but even with the disparity in numbers, he wanted the prisoners secured before they had the opportunity to do something stupid.

Neb's spell wouldn't hold forever, and the summoned wolf would be disappearing any time now.

Annetta watched the fleeing man for a moment longer, before lowering her blade, not bothering to take it back out of it's scabbard again. She noticed the rest had already finished business, and made her way over.

Notably, Annetta is of half-elf descent, standing 5'6 with only slightly pointed ears. However, there's a slight oddity in her face that gives it away. She wears leather armor with just a slight bit of decoration to it, over a forest green tunic and pants. Her hair is a fiery red color, and a thick black scarf rests on her shoulders.

"Well, if we're about done here, I'd like to get moving before anyone else comes."
Hey there! Can I give you a hand?

Until just now, Dan had been distracted. A great deal has happened in the past ten minutes. However, when the red haired half elf speaks up, he feels his attention drawn to her. She feels vaguely familiar somehow, but he can't put his finger on why. Still, the feeling persists.

"...Goddess, I hope I didn't have to arrest her or something like that." Daniel thinks to himself, bothered by the nagging feeling about the woman.

But those thoughts can wait, since he has another important job to do. Namely, keeping his halberd pointed at the Nekojin.

"...while we're waiting, I don't suppose you feel up to explaining your attack?" he asks the Nekojin, while waiting for Leothe to bring the rope.

The Nekojin grunts when Daniel asks his question. He obviously doesn't feel like answer, but being under Dan's spear point does wonders for this kind of thing.

"We learned the shop keeper was moving a large part of her inventory... her store's goods would make us rich after being sold on the Black Market."

Leothe finds no weaponry on the Nekojin, aside from the Mace he was using to accost Daniel, nor anything else of especial interest. While he's searching, however, he hears a sudden breathe nearby... The elven woman is moving again! It's only been about two minutes... It seems Neb wasn't kidding about the short amount of time remaining.

She gasps, as from her perspective, the world changed fairly dramatically in the blink of an eye. Everyone has moved, and suddenly she has no allies to rely on. She channels her will into a spell without wasting time to think, still full of rushing adrenaline from a battle that, by her perception, never stopped or even slowed. Annetta tries to move to take her down before her spell can reach completion, but she just wasn't ready in time. The sky fill with falling swords, raining down on those gathered near her and the Nekojin: Annetta, Leothe, Kobakk and Dan. The Elven mage, now bleeding from the nose and looking haggard, begins to run without staying to watch the effectiveness of her spell.

Dan's luck continues to see him through, as well as his extensive training in self defense. The only one at a distance enough to appreciate the combined display of dodging and weapon deflection is Neb; Those few blades that make it through don't penetrate his armor, sliding off instead.

Unfortunately, Dan couldn't defend himself and his captured quarry. When the rain of swords is over, he may be frustrated to discover that the man is now a pincushion of blades, more than one in his head.

Leothe is taken through the side and through the leg, and pinned to the ground unconcious, slowly bleeding out. His lack of armor or expectation of attack made him an easy target. Kobakk's armor actually deflects a few blades, but eventually one of them found a chink in his shoulder, and another pierced his thigh. He quickly falls unconscious once more from pain and blood loss. Annetta is pinned to the ground by both shoulders, and is remarkably still concious. However, that doesn't change that it hurts like hell. If not for her armor she might be dead now.

Myrnal had only just walked up to stand within about five feet of Neb when this all happened.

Everything seemed under control a moment ago.

Despite the attitude, Daniel was getting some kind of answer out of the Nekojin mage at his feet. As he listened to the feline mage's explanation, Leothe approached and started to secure the man. For a moment, Daniel thought nothing of it. After all, as soon as the nekojin was secured he could worry about the other wom...

...

...and in an instant, recalling Neb's warnings, Daniel realized what was wrong.

But before he could say anything, he heard the gasp. And it what seemed like a blur of activity, the woman spoke an incantation and ran off. The sky opened up, and a rain of blades began to fall in the area around him. Daniel rolled and dived as much as he could, desperately trying not to get slashed into pieces by falling blades.

When the blades cease falling, Daniel is surprised to find himself relatively unscathed. He starts to say a prayer of thanks to Ishtar... but stops once he sees the state of the others.

"....dammit... DAMMIT!" he screams, seeing the nekojin dead and the others near death as well.

Right now, he has to help the others. Nothing else matters, not even the fleeing woman. If he doesn't do something, they'll end up like the feline mage. Everything else, including his anger at the situation, can wait.

(Dan's going to 'treat wounds' to remove the blades, and use Cure 1 on everyone to get em stabilized)

It was too late.

Neb had been careless, and overestimated just how much time they had left before she would awaken. She cursed out loud - cursing at herself, cursing at the elf, cursing at the entire blasted situation - before turning her attention back towards the fleeing mage. There was nothing she could do to help her companions, and she didn't have enough energy to hold her once more, but she could at least do something. She focused on the astral plane, calling on the forces of time to impede her escape.

(Slow spell on the Magey McElferson)

All she'd wanted was an answer to a question. A very basic question, and valid. She'd just wanted to know why her allies were fighting for these strangers, who these strangers were, what they were doing here and who the real enemies were. An answer to any one of these questions would have been enough. An answer to any one would have been a start, a step toward understanding.

Instead swords fell from the sky.

"What the FUCK!" Myrnal yelled, immediately off at a run after the elven mage. Some part of her registered that Dan was okay and probably more qualified to care for their new happy funtime senseless combat friends. That wasn't what was most important here, though.

Instead, Myrnal tried to imagine telling Stephan that a mage had showered his brother with bladed weapons, and Myrnal had let her live. Not going to happen.

No, Myrnal intended to catch that woman and either kill or capture her. It was the reason the ninja had come and she had no intention of settling for less.

(Discussed Annetta's action with Shini. Here we go!)

Daniel begins removing swords from the fallen, and healing them as best he can with means both mundane and magical. Once he's freed Annetta, he may be surprised to find that she calmly goes about helping him in his work, adding her own healing magic to his. Through the combined efforts of the pair of them, Annetta and Leothe are both fully restored. Kobakk isn't quite there, but his injuries over the course of the fight were more grievous than any. It's a miracle that he survived at all. Still, even Kobakk's still slightly battered body no longer shows evidence of the swords that pinned him to the ground before Daniel's ministrations.

As the elven woman runs, she seems to slow down... imperceptibly at first, but after a few seconds she's moving so slowly that she seems to be floating between the landing of her feet. Floating very very slowly. This compounded with the surprising speed of the ninja woman chasing her means that, simply put, she stands no chance. Myrnal is on top of her almost immediately, and the woman can't even turn in time to guess at what has caused her world to go strange for yet another time today.

(Everyone is up and conscious again. Annetta and Leothe are returned to full HP. Kobakk is at 65/82
Dan has 21/78 MP, Annetta has 50/103 MP, and Neb has 88/144 MP
Still off of combat initiative.)

One would never mistake Leothe for a military person. Such a person would never have made such an elementary mistake about who to tie up first. As Leothe jerked back to consciousness with a gasp, he couldn't help but reflect that he wasn't cut out for this thing. Give him horrors from beyond reality any day of the week. At least you knew where you stood with them.

Leothe sat up, noticing in passing that there really was a great deal of blood soaked into his trousers. All of it his, by the looks. His gaze shifted to the fallen Nekojin, and he resisted the impulse to swear. Yet another person dead. Thankfully, this time around, it was not one of their own. As for the elf woman, Leothe was feeling distinctly murderous impulses towards her.

Not that he would act on them, of course. Cold-blooded murder would always be beyond him, no matter the provocation.

There was always the possibility that this situation was more complicated than it seemed, that the simple 'we wanted to rob a merchant' excuse wasn't the whole story behind what appeared to be an isolated attack. To a diplomat or a leader these potentialities would have been a reason to pause, take stock, and carefully prioritize.

Myrnal didn't care. It didn't seem like it was going to require any special effort to bring down her quarry, so Myrnal reached into her belt and lashed out once. There was relatively little personal investment here, it just seemed like the right and thorough thing to do, even if it was only done perfunctorily.

((OOC: Light attack when Myrnal's close enough to do it. Valthi stiletto, so... AT/PA - 26/19. Light: 13+ 1d6 in case it matters.))

Myrnal strikes quickly, without putting any special effort into her strike, and opens a long, deep line along the size of her neck. She goes down slowly, still in the grip of the slow spell. After a few seconds, she hits the ground and stays there.

Annetta watched the woman hit the ground, sighing as she did. She slowly walked that way. As she approached Myrnal, she spoke. "You should be more careful." She stood, looking down at the woman. "A little more to the left, and you might've killed her."

With that, Annetta began inspecting the mage, seeing if any treatment was nessessary to stop her from bleeding to death.

Annetta can see that, indeed, Myrnal actually nicked a major artery leading to the brain, and stopped just short of opening it. The woman is very likely playing dead, despite not being dead. Why she hasn't reacted to their conversation yet is open to her interpretation.

The arrow, still in her arm, is still bleeding lightly. It would do more harm than good to remove it without a healing spell ready to close the wound immediately. Otherwise she just seems to be suffering from a light case of manaburn.

"Yeah," Myrnal answered. "Thank the gods I've got someone here to tell me these things. Otherwise I might accidentally hurt people when I stab them." The ninja sighed and put her blade back on her belt.

She tried to remind herself that this woman was apparently some variety of healer, which limited just how terrible a person she could possibly be. Myrnal found it a good rule that anybody who spent that much time looking after other people was probably a pretty decent sort. Even if her own allies had been the only ones that really needed assistance this time, it still counted for something that she gave it. Myrnal was pretty useless when it came to actually saving people. Generally the best she could do was kill any pressing threats so that the people who were actually useful could get some work done.

Myrnal glanced back to the others and then down at the woman crouched nearby. "So did you want to save her just to be a decent person, or do you have some use in mind for this one? Sole survivors are bad luck, y'know."

"She's not the sole survivor. There was another that I convinced to give up and leave." Annetta said, working a tiny, tiny healing spell together. She kneeled on the mages back, applying it to her, then putting her weight in to prevent the woman from moving. "But if you kill her, she has no chance to redeem herself. I'll drop her with the guards at the next town I pass, so could you be a dear and get the rope for me?"

After giving Kobakk another quick lookover for remaining injuries, Daniel finally breathes a quick sigh of relief. It looks like everyone will be alright, despite their serious injuries from the woman. But as he looks over the civilians for more injuries, he finds his gaze lingering on Leothe.

For the briefest of moments, Daniel finds himself angry with the man, something he doesn't hide very well with his expression. He knows he had the nekojin subdued. The man should have tied the other woman instead. If it wasn't for his actions, the nekojin may have lived. He should have...

Before he continues seething any further, he stops himself and briefly shakes his head to the sides. He starts to remind himself that Leothe is a civilian, and just trying to help. While the proper course of action seems obvious to him, it's unfair to expect this from someone he barely knows.

Feeling somewhat guilty for his hostility, he decides to go speak with Leothe. As he approaches the man, he hopes speaking will ease his anger, and not the opposite.

"...are you alright, sir?" Daniel asks him.

Well... this is certainly turning out to be an exciting day.

One moment, Trevor finds himself quickly approaching Charles and the rather striking woman who knows Daniel. The next, he watches as a rain of blades come down all around the people before him. Horrified at the sight, he quickly runs up to check on the Doman monarch, as the woman runs off to deal with the attacker.

"Charles, what the bloody hell is going on out here!?" Trevor asks.

"It's your funeral. Or would have been this time," Myrnal shot back as she headed back to the group to find some rope. Myrnal knew better than anyone the reality of second chances, of their absolute necessity sometimes. Still... She didn't particularly approve of these people Daniel had taken up with, but part of the reason she was here and not Stephan was that, in her mind, she was better equipped to shut up and deal with the inconvenience of being stuck with these idealistic morons.

Myrnal tried not to think about whether this included Dan. Or her.

"Dan," she offered. "Your new friend over there's going to drop off the surviving mage at the next guard station. I don't expect you'll want to be exercising coup de grace rights, but if you've a mind to do it you might want to make it quick."

With that, she tried to do the helpful team-oriented productive thing and rummage about for some rope.

The various people still alive eventually tied up their captured and half conscious elf mage, and brought her over by Neb's cart. To Myrnal's chagrin, it seemed like Dan wasn't particularly interested in killing the woman, either. Did none of these people have a whit of survival instinct betwixt them? Still, there were more pressing questions people had wanted answered before... Like who was who, what the hell had happened, and so on. With everyone gathered around the cart, the Kings included, now would be the time to ask such questions.

After checking that Charles is ok...

...then checking that Trevor is ok...

...then double checking on everyone he helped to heal...

...then several minutes of everyone telling him to relax...

Daniel heads back over to the captive, where most of the group seems to be gathering around. For a few moments, no one seems to say anything. Figuring someone needs to start the questioning, he decides to go first.

"So... would you care to explain what was going on back there?" Daniel asks the woman.

She just glared insolently at Dan.

"Kill me and be done with it."

"Nobody is going to kill you." Annetta said, calmly.
Hey there! Can I give you a hand?

She looks Annetta over critically, and then Dan. Finally, she looks away.

"I have nothing to say."

Charles sighed. Obviously they weren't going to get anywhere fast with this person unless a little intimidation was pressed upon her.

Crouching down next to the half-elf, the king looked upon the headless, messy corpse of her green-skinned compatriate. "I don't know how well you knew your ... associate over there, but unless my estimation of most orcs is wrong, and it very well could be, he was tough as nails, strong as an ox, and as unkillable as anyone you've met."

He pointed at the bloody hodgepodge that was the top of his body. "That's what OUR orc did to him. And that's what our orc's going to do to you if you don't tell us what we want to know.

"And y'know, he wasn't even that focused on anyone at the time. He just wanted to cause as much wanton destruction as possible. When we tell him he's got you ALL to himself, well... you've probably heard what orcs do to their female victims. But, hey, your choice."

Charles then stood up, and walked towards Kobakk. "Get healed up quick, my friend. You've got a lot of work ahead of you..."

She blinked, looking at him strangely as he spoke. And, as he turned...

"... You're King Domanada, aren't you. Ha. It would figure. The man runs a fucking country, and the minute he wants something it's straight to threats of force.... and rape? Doma's future is bright. Human pig."
