Angel looked down at William, a preplexed look waved across his face, "I need to stay."

Angel hesitated for a moment...

IM: Should I...

...Then regained stature, still looking towards william, the bustle of the city roared around them.

"Touami, she may be psycotic..." Angel paused and hesitated again, " But she's still here, and I can't let my wife die..."

Angel felt a cold wave travel through his body when he said that.

"Even if she's long gone by now, i must still stay and fight, don't worry, i'm not gonna die here either," Angel said looking up at the highest tower of the castle, sun gleeming off it's roof.

Phoenix turns around and looks over the horizon and sees some people at the gates that look angry. As he gets closer he sees that the people are meeting at a wagon. He goes up to them and asks, " What is all the commotion? Is something going on?"

Angel turned around to respond to the person, Seemed normal.

'We're leaving, you should come with, there is an attacking army coming," Angel decided to continue, to stroke his ego, "And I'm gonna help stay and bravly fight off the enemy invaders in glorious battle, you should leave, for, I worry of your safty."

Phoenix chuckles at the thought of running away from a battle and says to the man, "Heck, I dont even want to think about running away especially if there is going to be fighting... I will stay and fight with you because you never know if you'll need help... So do you agree or will i have to just fight and not help you when your in trouble? Its one... Or the other, but either way I am staying and fighting...And theres nothing you can do about it.

And indeed they were. You could see little black trickles, like black water trickling over the crest of the hill. You couldn't see the orcs yet, or even that they were orcs yet, but every man, woman and child in the city knew what was coming.

Doom. And all living felt the dread of it. A sixth sense, perhaps, that they had all aquired over this long war; a certain clamminess that runs up one's spine, stiffens one's joints and makes one think of crawling into the nearest, darkest corner and retracting into a fetal position.

As the final inspections at the castle troops were finished, men, heavily armed and armored, streamed out of the castle as peasants streamed in. Tim, perhaps recalling an old verse sung over his cradle, said quietly to himself, "Behold the tide of death sweepeth over the land, to take with it even the sun..." before once again returning to his duties.

And yet, the men's armor was blackened, too. Whether by charcoal or enchantment, the human defenders of Baron wore armor and wielded weapons that were black as pitch. Many lay hidden, waiting in ambush...

All were ready... until the first rays of the morning sun began to be blocked...

Phoenix thought to himself that he could easily defeat at least half of the army but he noded and said to himself, " No..that is not the right way..I must do this the right way and not be a coward!" He saw the orc army coming but they were very tiny...even though they were far..you could barely hear their rampaging footsteps and yells.

"this is what i'm talking about!," Angel yelled as he went as far up to the front lines as he could, he wanted to be in the action.

Angel readied his bow with an arrow on the end, sitting near one of the men in black armor, Angel knew he wouldn't converse, because of the silent ambush nature, but wished the man luck anyway.

He let out a loud battle cry and started to run forward his sword ready.

(OOC: Allrighty, enough waiting for AoF... she'll catch up; she always does.)

It seemed that Tim and William had had similar ideas: Willliam was swept up by a large group of infantry irregulars, mostly armed with spears, marching quickly, ready to break into a charge against the forerunners of the orc army.

The trickle had now become a flood, with blackness streaming down from the very hills that had seemed lifeless an hour earlier. Interspersed in the blackness of the orc army itself were little specks of red, which stood far, far higher than any orc could.

There was a noticable difference in the light now, almost as if the sun was behind the clouds... but it was a perfectly clear day. Those looking back to the giver of light would see the slightest crescent of black beginning to creep across its face...

The orcs were coming... and even the sun would not resist them.

The front troops of each side were nearly together, as both orcs and humans massed like a flood.

Monk watched the orcish horde surround the human troops who were attacking them. They fought bravely, and quite well, but Monk knew it was only a matter of time before they were defeated.

They needed something, someone to believe in. He didn't think it was a good idea, but confident in his skills, he continued circling, leaving Angel and the others behind. They could have their ambush, he would take the head of the army. He could see the banners of the leader of the orcish horde at the back. He would kill their general. End this war by chopping off the head of the enemy.

He snuck up on the scout searching for people just like him, who were going for their general and he slit his throat. He watched the general preparing his battle plans, his people needed those plans and he knew it. He watched the General holding the maps. He was alone, after several minutes, and Boron charged into the camp. It may be a suicidal charge, but he had a chance, if he could get to the General and kill him, they might back off.

He charged the General and swung his axe for his head. The general ducked and nailed Boron in his head. Boron fell to the ground and turned. The general turned and looked at him "Your mine fool, your head will go well with my wall." At that his sword came swinging down on Boron. Boron brought his Axe up just in time to block the swing. Unfortunately the guards had reached him. They captured him and tied him up. His weapons gone, he watched as the Guards stuck him in a prisoner tent. He wasn't worried though. He knew Angel had to have seen where he was heading. Eventually he will figure out what happened to him and save him. Until then Boron would have to wait, patiently.

Contact. The two sides smashed together with an impact that sent many flying. All across a gentle slope, the orcs engaged the humans as a solar eclipse steadily blocked out the light.

William was drawn straight to the fore of the combat, and the line of confrontation was actually driven back behind Angel. Perhaps if one was perceptive, one could notice that on either side of the battle lines, archers had stealthily drawn their bows, waiting for the signal to lay down a withering rain of arrows.

Somewhat further away, muffled voices somewhat separated from the flood of orcs came from thin air. "Sir Tim," one whispered, "how are we supposed to flank an army that has no back end?"

"Just wait and watch," came the reply. "The main forces can't have allowed that big of a force to slip through... we should be seeing the back of them... now!"

Indeed, one might think that the flood of orcs had run out of water: for over the hilltop, orcs suddenly stopped coming. Even so, they still filled the field of view.

<William>

William's sword thrust was met by a heavy shield, driving it straight to the side, and numbing his arm with a resounding clang.

<Orcs A+B>

The orc that William had attacked roared in anger. However, an attempted charge by it and its companion left skewered by the two human spearmen to the right and left of William. Orc B, however, swung its axe at William. Though he had not completely recovered from his foiled attack, he managed to block the blow... at least partially: the axe head managed to come close enough that its point nicked his face.

<Spearmen A+B>

The spearmen, of course, could not stand for this. Orc B was sent to join his fellow in short order, the corpse falling backwards from William.

<Extra-combat events>

The sun was nearly gone now... and those in the ranks could see clearly what the large red specks in the orcish army were, for they were now upon the front lines. Large, upright beasts, black and red, with horns on their heads, fire in their eyes, and death in their hands: demons.

The orcish army was reinforced... with demons.

William came face to face with a tall, red, well-built demon wielding a long infernal whip. This would not be quite so simple as the orcs.

Angel tapped his foot impatiently, he couldn't sit here and watch everyone get killed, and his arm was quivering from holding back the bow so long.

"Time to do this," Angel said letting an arrow go straight for the demon's chest, hoping to hit something.

Angel knew he'd be seen by now so he drew his sword and prepared to charge.

Ambush on three sides! But where's the cavalry?

Unread postby Yari Koneko » Wed Mar 26, 2003 7:40 pm

<William>

William's quick charge caught the demon by surprise, gashing into its large forearm, spewing small spurts of blackish blood upon him.

<Demon>

A surprised and injured demon quickly becomes an enraged one. With surprising agility for its large size, the creature of the abyss picked William up and threw him at the two human spearmen. William instinctively twisted in the air, narrowly avoiding being skewered on two counts. It then swung its flaming whip in a wide arc at the two spearmen, driving them back; but they escaped serious injury through the virtue of their tower shields. Clearly, in a tight battle, bigger is not always better.

<Spearmen>
The spearmen were slightly dazed from being attacked, and hid behind their shields to recover.

<Battle order: same as last round>
<Extra-combat events>

The sun was now entering the final stages of waxing eclipse, and darkness over the land was now nearly complete. The lighting was similar to dark twilight; poor light for shooting.

Solidly flanking the orc/demon coalition army, voices still came from invisible beings. With a shout, a large fireball streaked into the air from behind the orcs, high over both armies and exploding into a large firework which provided explicit lighting for the archers in hiding.

Angel's timing had been extraordinary. As he let his arrow fly, hundreds of archers that had been hidden both near him and on the other side of the battle lines stood at this brilliant signal... and let their arrows fly. Shooting high into the air, over the humans, the bodkins rose... three hundred arrows... six hundred... nine hundred... the archers shot again and again over their own army and into the massed ranks of the orcs.

At the very same time, those hiding under the shield of invisibility dropped it. Revealed directly behind the orcish army was a large assortment of men dressed in robes bearing the colors of Baron. And Lieutenant Commander Tim was at their head: the full extent of his ambush became clear.

As the orcs were coming under standard attack from the front, and arrows were whistling down upon them from both sides, the mages of Baron lined up and began to work their magics, felling great numbers of orcs with their assorted spells and enchantments.

But the orcish army was still strong, and despite being attacked from four sides, remained surprisingly organized. And there were still demons to be taken care of; for those that had escaped sword, arrow and spell were still present... and still quite a threat.

Rai stepped out of the makeshift armory and immediately noticed that something was wrong. She could hear sounds of battle and smelled a foul stench. Orc smell!!! The situation was clear. The orcs had attacked the town, and if her previous orc encounter had been any proof, the "humans" wouldn't last long. Rai tried to run there but realized that it would be suicidal. She had no hope of taking on orcs, and if they had allies, whatever was helping them in melee combat. It'd be better to take to the air. Taking a running leap, she flew quickly toward the cries of battle. I could hit them in the air with a spell..., she thought.

Coming to the battle scene, Rai realized that the situation was more desperate than she thought. Not only were there orcs, there were also demons with them! Rai felt herself stiffen. These were her worst enemies! No! I won't go berserk again! That'd kill me! But... they prevent me from going home, terrorize people, and now attack the town! I can't just sit here! Rai thought. She pondered for a moment, then concluded, I could just fire some lightning bolts into the crowd of demons/orcs. It might stun them, at least! "Ohnakalekhg fffjd bcjsd!" she cried, and fired a bolt at an important looking orc. Was this the general?

Angel looked over to the closest human to his right, he yelled out to him to get on his knees, whether the man did or not, angel didn't care.

he ran and jumped up, landing one footed on the mans shoulder, he thrusted, pushing him away, then flung himself into the air, sword coming down aimed for the demons head, he was gonna get him, or die trying.

As he saw people dying he grew with harsh anger. Phoenix clenched his fists and as he saw Demons come into thr picture, he grew with fear for he has never won a battle against a demon. He then harshly whispered to himself, "Out of all the hiding places I had to hide in the one farthest away from the action !" Phoenix could not stand the suspense any longer as he was about to try a sneak attack...He noticed that night was creeping in...and now almost anyone can tell where he was hiding if they looked in his direction because of his never ending glowing red eyes. An orc that was suprisingly close was about to help another but he turned to phoenix's direction. The orc quickly roars and signals another orc and they both charged at Phoenix . The gem embedded on his sword was glowing which was a sign that all his adrenaline has powered him up. He quickly jumped into the air and raised the sword over his head. The blade of his sword glowed in fire. He slashed at the orc on the right...Hopefully the last things that the orc saw where glowing red eyes and a flaming sword...
