<William>
William's quick charge caught the demon by surprise, gashing into its large forearm, spewing small spurts of blackish blood upon him.
<Demon>
A surprised and injured demon quickly becomes an enraged one. With surprising agility for its large size, the creature of the abyss picked William up and threw him at the two human spearmen. William instinctively twisted in the air, narrowly avoiding being skewered on two counts. It then swung its flaming whip in a wide arc at the two spearmen, driving them back; but they escaped serious injury through the virtue of their tower shields. Clearly, in a tight battle, bigger is not always better.
<Spearmen>
The spearmen were slightly dazed from being attacked, and hid behind their shields to recover.

<Extra-combat events>
The sun was now entering the final stages of waxing eclipse, and darkness over the land was now nearly complete. The lighting was similar to dark twilight; poor light for shooting.
Solidly flanking the orc/demon coalition army, voices still came from invisible beings. With a shout, a large fireball streaked into the air from behind the orcs, high over both armies and exploding into a large firework which provided explicit lighting for the archers in hiding.
Angel's timing had been extraordinary. As he let his arrow fly, hundreds of archers that had been hidden both near him and on the other side of the battle lines stood at this brilliant signal... and let their arrows fly. Shooting high into the air, over the humans, the bodkins rose... three hundred arrows... six hundred... nine hundred... the archers shot again and again over their own army and into the massed ranks of the orcs.
At the very same time, those hiding under the shield of invisibility dropped it. Revealed directly behind the orcish army was a large assortment of men dressed in robes bearing the colors of Baron. And Lieutenant Commander Tim was at their head: the full extent of his ambush became clear.
As the orcs were coming under standard attack from the front, and arrows were whistling down upon them from both sides, the mages of Baron lined up and began to work their magics, felling great numbers of orcs with their assorted spells and enchantments.
But the orcish army was still strong, and despite being attacked from four sides, remained surprisingly organized. And there were still demons to be taken care of; for those that had escaped sword, arrow and spell were still present... and still quite a threat.
