Jak recognised the rogue now. His behavior had been rather distinctive.

IM: "Ah yes, the drunkard.

"What do you want then? I doubt you're down here just because you felt like it."

Frankly, Jak wasn't about to trust any half-stranger who walked out of the darkness in a sewer.

"This is by far one of the most effective transport systems in the city. I use it for", he paused, "work".

Looking again at the dead crocodiles he added "but you seemed to be working on making it less affective."

Offering an incentive to tag along...

Unread postby Jak Snide » Sun Sep 01, 2002 6:13 pm

Jak looked at one of the crocodile corpses, giving it a kick. He had a pretty good idea what the man's "work" was now. Only those with shady business used shady means of travelling the city.

"We're not here for work, but I've got no problem with your own. Now, I have a few royals to turn into charred corpses, so get out of my way."

"Mwah. . ." Molo moaned. "Yes, let us through!! We need to find someone who can heal meee!" he shouted, gripping his minor wound as if his arm had been taken off. "I'm gonna die of blood loss!"

Alissa looked at Devon and raised an eyebrow. "You have a point. It's inaffective." Toying with one of the loops of her hair, she sighed. "But traditional. My master learnt it from his master, who learnt it from his master, who learnt it from his master, who was probably a prehistoric being."

Brandon looked at the two wounded members of the odd party worriedly. "Dan is right... A white mage would be useful right now. Does anyone have any potions?"

Kraken's ears twitched when he heard the black mage mention killing royals. Not that he had a particular passion for killing royalty its just there is normally much loot to be had where ever royals stayed.

Kraken's eyes flicked to Jak's his face all seriousness and professional and he made a shallow bow "I cannot think to understand why you should partake in such a quest however I would be happy to offer my services", he paused, "for a price......".

Kraken's mind was already set on tagging along wanted or not, but he might has well receive some kind of down payment on his investment.

How paranoia can net you gil!

Unread postby Jak Snide » Mon Sep 02, 2002 3:11 pm

Jak's jaw dropped an inch. Here he was, treking around in the bleedin' sewers on a rescue mission, and some complete stranger was trying to hire himself out to him?! He already had enough back up as it was...

The suddenly worried cast a quick look over his shoulder, taking a look at his current companions. Brandon could be easily intimidated, and 'Dan, while annoying, was also extremely loyal. This was good.

He didn't feel so happy with the others. Stephan and him had never been on good terms, and with Dark Knights bed buddy gone, the twin was all the more likely to blow and and try and impale him. Then there was the other bard, who'd already threatened him at sword point, which put him on Jak's enemy list immediately. This "Devon" bloke looked too thick to be a real threat, but the comments he'd made earlier had placed him right next to Ashrem in the mage's opinion. As for Alissa, Jak quite simply didn't trust her. She acted way too cool for a child, and certainly could fight far too well for his liking. He combined this with the fact that he had a habbit for pissing people off, and realised that should things go sour, even his mighty magic wouldn't be able to save his arse, especially since Brandon would most likely side with his sister.

All in all, a hired hand didn't sound nearly as bad now.

He turned his attention back to the rogue, correcting his jaw posture.

"How does 125 gil sound, along with a standard loot allotment?"

It wasn't as much as he would hire himself out for, but he wasn't about to pay full price to anyone.

"Shall we say 200 gil", replied Kraken, "this is still far below my normal fee you understand, but I can see you are a man without the time for wits; and I trust I shall be thoroughly compensated with a large share of the spoils?" He raised his eyebrows questioningly, the truth was he could easily take what he was owed later id he felt hard done by.

Take what you're *owed?* Not an honest crook, I see.

"One fifty." Jak responded, crossing his arms. "And you get first choice when it comes to loot, as well as a weeks free board at the inn."

Normally he'd have spent a bit more time haggling, but Kraken was right. He didn't have time for this.

"Done!" said Kraken his hood falling back off his head as he jumped a little. To be honest he didn't feel like haggling over what he thought of as the smaller reward but he felt the need to make it seem like that was the price he was holding out for all along.

"So", he said, his previously professional appearance faltering somewhat, "where to now guvna'", he gave a some what mocking salute.

Eeep!! Scary Foreshadowing

Unread postby FF Fanatic 80 » Wed Sep 04, 2002 2:52 am

Stephan looked at the wailing 'child', a vein on his forehead starting to throb mildly.

Look at him, whining like a f*&king baby over a tiny bite... hell, I'VE made bites more painful then that... Stephan thought, bawling a fist. He saw that Molokidan was lying dangerously close to the flowing river of bile and waste. Why, it would only...

...take one little push, and the little bastard would finally shut up... 'Stephan' thought, ...all that disease and filth, burning his flesh and corrupting his blood... such suffering and pain he'd go through before he died... he deserves it, so many deserve to suffer, everyone should suffer...

"Owwwww...." Molo started to moan again, small tears in his eyes, "...it hurts..."

Stephan shook his head a moment, the darker thoughts falling silent. As annoying as the little blue haired kid was, not to mention the hell he'd put him though months ago, he'd always found it difficult to completely despise anyone who tried to get along with him. Molo had been such a person, always greeting him and Midoku with a cheerful smile, even when the Dark Knight looked ready to hurl him into Jak's face. He'd *NEVER* say it out loud, but Molo seemed like an Ok guy to him. He reminded him of Dan a lot, always trying to be cheerful and upbeat. With a big sigh, Stephan removed one of the potions he carried with him and walked over to the wailing sushijin. Kneeling down, he uncorked the bottle, pouring some of it on Molo's wounds.

"Look you, don't rub at yer wounds, or you'll just make the gashes rip open again, got it?" he growled, glaring at Molo as he handed him what was left of the potion, "Now drink that, it'll help yer body heal faster."

**Meanwhile**

Midoku looked up at the guard with the food, unable to contain a feral-like growl as he glared at his captor.

e.e;; "Why have you captured us, then...?" Midoku hissed, "If you're going to let us go, why hold us against our will in the first place?!"

(OOC Note: This Rp started before Stephan's little 'adventure' to confront his dark past, just in case anyone's wondering why he sounds like a raving lunatic ^.^;;; )

(OOC: HEH! I forget, but what is the "Hell" you are talking about that Molo put him through?)

^_^ Molo drank the potion quickly, and the gash in his arm ceased to exist. He smiled a gigantic smile at Stephan, and, ignoring all logic, (but what else is new?) wrapped his arms around the dark knight in a gigantic huggle.

"THANK YOUUUUUUUUUU MR. STEPHAN!!!"

Foreshadow this, character development that. I want loot! XP

Unread postby Jak Snide » Wed Sep 04, 2002 10:56 am

Jak cringed as he heard the kid's cry from behind him. With a quick thought of "at least it wasn't me" he followed Alissa down the tunnel, not bothering to see if the others followed him.

The group kept on walking, and soon came to a large treasure chest directly in front of them. The metalwork on the chest was rather ornate and suggested that the inside held even better.

***

The man looked at Midoku and shrugged. "'S not my fault. You two are acting as hostages- when the prince comes to get you, as he certainly will, we can let you go."

Kotoki blinked. "Prince? We're... bait for Brandon?"

"In a word, yes. Now eat."

She blinked yet again, attempted to pick up the form while still shackled, and failed. "I can't... Couldn't you take off the handcuffs for a bit?"

"Right." muttered the soldier. "And let you kill me like you killed Westley? No way. Have something when you get home."

"People lose stuff. Nothing unusual." said Devon. Then, glancing around briefly, "I call first pick of the loot!"

"It must be someone's rightful property." protested Ashrem. "I can't merely allow it to be taken by various unscrupulous vagrants passing through."

"It'll be a shame to have to knock you unconscious and leave you here." Devon replied. Ashrem drew his sword.

"I doubt you'd survive the attempt." he said coolly.

Jak regarded the chest, but from afar. That thing was way too inviting for something left in the sewers. It was either a trap, or one of those "mimic" creatures he'd heard about.

"As f*&ked up as this is gonna sound... did it ever occur to ya dimwits that someone might be f*&king LIVING down here?! -\/-;;;" Stephan grumbled, the smell and the little bundle of 'joy' huggling his waist not helping his already sour mood, "Now, could we f*&king forget about the @#%$ treasure chest and hurry up!?! "......"

"....uh....I mean the one I car....."

"......"

e\/e++ "...CAN WE JUST F*&KING GET ON WITH IT!?"

6\/6 "AND LET GO ALREADY!!!" Stephan snarled down at Molo.

**Meanwhile**

Midoku, sadly, was quite used to being restrained like this. He easily handed the utensils with his bound hands and wrists, taking a few bites of the food as he thought.

<.<? What could they possibly need Brandon for, I wonder? he thought, shoveling another spoonful of the not too appetising meal into his mouth, If he truly is royalty, perhaps his family disapproves of him leaving home...?

......or perhaps that 'someone' he's looking for......

As he went for another spoonful, he noticed the difficulty Kotoki was having, realizing she had yet to have a single spoonful while he was stuffing his face.

"Oh! I'm sorry Miss Kotoki, do you need any help? ^_^;;" Midoku asked her, blushing midly purple in embarrasement.

The chest was completely empty, save an iron key at the bottom. A small note was attatched to the key.

'KEY TO THE REST OF THE SEWAR!!!'

"Oh, good." said Brandon with a weak smile. "It wasn't a trap after all."

Jak peered into the chest, reading the note on the key. His reaction was fairly suitable.

"Wh..what the f*ck?! Who leaves a key lying around in an conspicuous chest when they clearly want to keep intruders out?"

He tried to rationalise this in his mind. Perhaps the crocs had been magically dominated or conjured to guard the chest? But even so, it seemed damn odd that someone would leave the key in a large chest, especially with a large note attached.

"I don't like this one bit. There's something bloody fishy it."

It's so much fun putting Stephan in harm's way >:D

Unread postby FF Fanatic 80 » Tue Sep 10, 2002 10:22 am

Stephan just stared at the key, dumbfounded for a second by the oddness of the chest contents. Without warning, he suddenly started bawling with laughter.

XD "Ahahahah... damn I wish I'd thought of that a few times raiding chests, ehehehehe..." The Dark Knight cackled, "Leaving a worthless piece of @#$# behind in the chest after raiding it..."

**Meanwhile**

<_<;;; "Yes... I would have to agree..." Midoku said, nodding in agreement, "However, we do not have much choice. If we do not eat something, we shall become very fatigued, which will be to our disadvantage."

Midoku took another glance around their makeshift "prison", before glancing back at Kotoki.

>.>? "Miss Kotoki, I think..." he started to say. He stopped, glancing at the entrance to the tent as he moved closer to Kotoki to whisper.

The group, after walking for a while, came to a dead end. An iron door marked "THE REST OF THE SEWAR!!!" was the only way through.
